Coachella 2016: Street Style Recap Coachella clearly inspires the anything goes mentality. Personal style reached new heights, with skin-baring risk takers and retro-inspired dressers. With the sun blazing, wind blowing and music bumping, the atmosphere couldn’t have been more energetic. The most successful music festival around, bringing a hundred thousand people together both weekends, this is clearly the place to be and to be seen. The needle on trends has moved slightly from past years with an edgier mood concerning style choices although the boho aesthetic clearly continues to dominate. The festival’s go-to fashion trendsetters from bloggers and models to social media queens, elected for more unique looks ranging from tough-girl rocker chic to ’90s club kid get-ups. Monica Rose, stylist to Kendall, Kylie, Bella and now Kaia Gerber, has set the standard for cool girl style with a focus on the post boho-wave, Coachella goth, in head-to-toe black, bra tops, short cut-offs and chokers. Channeling bohemian style icons with crochet and lace details, fringe, duster layers, bell sleeve tops and maxi dresses, the typical festival fashion was maintained, while lace-ups, rompers and 2-piece sets felt the most new. Feminine touches were seen in soft and pretty dresses, sheer lace, flowy tops, off-the-shoulder details and a color palette focused on white. Festival has become its own trend and fashion season, perfectly placed between spring and summer but clearly geared beyond Coachella with dozens of music festivals throughout the US and Europe still to come. Fashion and music go hand in hand, making it no surprise that festival culture has seeped into its own fashion deliveries with retailers and brands marketing around it. Coachella continues to serve as a window to fashion trends that will have staying power through the summer with the help from social media outlets continuing to push images from the street style heavy event. Retail Platforms

According to Lyst, H&M, ASOS, For Love & Lemons, Levi’s, Forever21, Calvin Klein, Free People, Topshop, Revolve and Urban Outfitters all received a major increase in searches and sales during Coachella. The celebrity-driven private parties hosted by these brands during the first weekend used social media to generate business growth. The specific looks worn by these tastemakers , chosen by festivalgoers, is key to who is influencing the millennial set: Suki Waterhouse, Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner and Brooklyn Beckham. These celebs triggered huge page views, searches and increases to the retailers and brands they wore. Shopstyle search keyword winners were white dresses, mom jeans, chokers, Calvin Klein sport bras, bandannas, bralettes and specifically Anine Bing’s black lace bralette worn by Kendall Jenner, the anointed festival darling.

The H&M Tent

The retailer hosted a vibrant installation where festivalgoers interacted with video sets and social media, shopped H&M’s spring lookbook that included exclusive items via Ipad, charged their phones and filled up their water bottles when needed. Sold out pieces, an increase in visibility through personalized digital video and a line to get in all point to a successful event.

Revolve Clothing

Revolve Clothing saw success with their party during the first weekend with great attendance and a PR/marketing following. The site used images from celebrities, bloggers and models in cool girl outfits to help push sales and direct them to the brands they were wearing. It worked, and was definitely a great way to tie in retailers, brands and street style with the achievement of sold out goods. It also influenced style into the second weekend of the festival as well as the hope of positive business into the summer months with clear trend direction.
