Socialytics Addendum Influencers vs Bloggers As social media progresses, new terms continue to get thrown in to the mix and now what was once a blogger is now thought to be an influencer, and vice versa. Though these terms have been thought to be interchangeable, they actually have different meanings. A fashion blogger can achieve the status of an influencer as his or her following grows. The key difference between blogger and an influencer is that a blogger finds their footing in their blog and grows a following from their specific point of view on fashion. Some bloggers transcend blogging to become respected by renowned designers and editors in the fashion industry while other bloggers turn their blogs into fully staffed websites. An influencer is a person who has gained a following on platforms such as Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, etc. and because of this following, is utilized by the fashion industry for their following. Influencers are the “it girls” of social media and therefore people want to know what they like, dislike, love, and hate. In many cases, influencers branch into blogging, collaborating, etc. but this does not make them fashion bloggers because blogging did not grow their following. The line drawn differentiating bloggers and influencers is fuzzy see the below which breaks it down further.
