Sandra Uwiringiyimana is speaking tonight as part of CSC’s Galaxy Series. Uwiringiyimana, an immigrant from the Democratic Republic of Congo, is the co-founder of Jimbere fund and the author of her memoir How Dare the Sun Rise.

CSC CDC selling “Village Pie Maker” pies

The CSC Child Development Center has announced that they are selling “Village Pie Maker” pies to fundraise for their Nature Explore Outdoor Learning Environment. The CSC Nature Explore Outdoor Learning Environment is meant to help children reconnect with nature and the natural world. Pies are sold for $15 each and payment can be made with either cash or check.

The available flavors are: apple, berry medley, blackberry, blueberry, cherry, peach, raspberry/peach, rhubarb and strawberry/ rhubarb. Orders will be taken from Jan. 22 to Feb. 9. The frozen pies will be delivered and ready for pickup on Tuesday, Feb. 20, after 3 p.m. in Burkhiser 231.

Senate has a current budget of $8,646.40 in unallocated funds. In allocated unspent funds, Senate has a budget of $163,421.33.

Senate also discussed the matter of incentives for senators as a method of recruitment in depth, concluding that senator jackets would be the best form of incentive in addition to the polos they already have. Senate allocated $1,320 towards the purchase of 22 embroidered jackets.

Senate also allocated $100 to buy snacks for an event at the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center. This event will be open to students, faculty, and the community.

In another matter, Senate president Carly Slaght asked Dale Grant, vice president of administration & finance, about opening the Brooks Hall parking lot to all students. The parking lot of Brooks is currently open to residents only even though the building is now closed.

CAB, co-sponsored with the Pit, is hosting a lip sync battle on Feb. 15. CAB is also hosting a Free Movie Night at 6:45 p.m., Feb. 18, at the Eagle Theatre. Students should continue to watch CAB’s Facebook and Twitter pages for the movie titles.

In another matter, the Spring Daze committee is at a stand-still, until their budget is approved

by Senate.

Slaght also informed Senate of the standing of the water bottle filling stations. Tomorrow, she will be meeting with Physical Facilities Maintenance Repair Worker Jason Blandford to talk about the installation of the rest of the stations. The list buildings

receiving stations will be in Andrews, Chicoine, Rangeland, Maintenance, and High Rise.

The Health and Well Being committee has received the feminine products that Senate ordered last week for the Feminine Hygiene Initiative. Senate allocated $1,580 last school year to purchase 4,800 feminine products which will be placed in the student center restrooms in the coming weeks.

Budget season has begun, and AFB has sent out the Budget and Trip packets to all students.

The CAB meeting on Feb. 20 will be converted to a budget workshop to help students understand the process of budget hearings. Students are encouraged to bring an adviser and other club members who are interested in how the budget works. Budget hearings will be held March 19-22, and appeals will be held on March 26-27.

In another matter, applications for student trustee are due Feb. 9 by noon, to Pat Beu. Applications require three letters of recommendation, and a statement explaining why one would be the person for the job. Applications can be picked up in the Student Senate Office, as well as Crites Hall.

Student Trustee Ashley Goad brought to the attention of Senate several instances where the Student Center printer was out of paper. Senate brought the issue to the Campus Improvement Committee, who are working to find a solution.

Senate welcomed a new High-Rise senator named Elizabeth Rotherham, 19, of Drake, North Dakota.

Senate encouraged students to take time and complete all of the surveys that have been sent out in the past week.

High Plains Festival brings area youth to campus Katelyn Lambert Lifestyles Editor CSC hosted over 175 students from high schools in the surrounding area on Monday and Tuesday as part of the 46th annual High Plains Band and Choir Festival.

The festival is organized and executed by both the music department and members of the CSC chapter of the National Association for Music Education.

NaFME president Megan Anderson, 22, senior of Hill City, South Dakota, said the festival is held to help recruit and give students who perform in the festival a chance to see what CSC has to offer.

“It’s a good opportunity for students who want to go [to CSC] to meet with professors,” Anderson said. “They can get a feel for class sizes and the building they are going to be in.”

High school students in Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota must audition to earn a spot in the various honor ensembles. In the past, the ensembles available for audition were choir and band. This year was the first year in which the festival also offered a keyboard ensemble and guitar ensemble to audition for.

After auditioning and getting a spot in the ensemble, students then spend two days on campus with faculty and collegiate music students, learning more about the music program at CSC and rehearsing for the final concert of the festival on the second day.

Along with rehearsals and spending time on the CSC campus, members of the honor ensembles also got to see some CSC students in action and watch performances from the various ensembles at CSC, including the Vocal Jazz group and CSC Jazz Band.

“We do it so students can see how they can sound after they have gone through high school playing,” Anderson said.

The High Plains Honor Band and Choir performed their annual concert, Tuesday, in the Memorial Hall Auditorium on the CSC campus.

The Honor Choir was directed by guest conductor Benjamin T. Keller, a retired choral instructor from Washington, with over 40 years of teaching experience and recipient of awards such as Outstanding Choral Director for the State of Washington and Outstanding Music Educator for the Mountain Region of the Washington Music Educators Association.

Michael Knight, Director of Bands at Chadron State College, was the conductor for the Honor Band. Before becoming a professor at CSC, he previously taught at the University of Delaware, University of Missouri and St. Norbert College in Wisconsin.

The music department’s next concert will be Brooks Hafey’s faculty recital this coming Sunday, Feb. 11. A full list of events can be found on the music department’s website.

CAB announces AFB training workshop Loren Ritter Sports Editor

The AFB workshop will be Feb 20, 6 p.m. in the ballroom. Presidents and executive boards are strongly encouraged to attend. CAB will be going over any questions on budget packets and how to correctly fill them out.

“It came to our attention that clubs and organizations that are going on trips and/ or hosting events are, even though it is not with CAB funds, drinking,” CAB Treasurer, Tierra Snyder, senior of Beatrice, said, “Be courteous that you are not drinking on these trips, and not posting any of these pictures on social media, especially having Chadron State College’s name on them.”

“I would encourage you not to drink,” Dr. Pat Beu said.

The Feminine Hygiene Initiative is now in effect within the Student Center, offering free feminine hygiene products in the bathrooms to women.

Student Trustee applications are due at noon, Feb. 9, and can be returned to Crites Hall, the Senate Office, or Dr. Pat Beu. Farm Bureau Club mentioned that they will be hosting a guest speaker, Hilary Maricle, at 7 p.m. Feb. 8, in the ballroom. Maricle will be speaking about Genetically Modified Organisms.

Xi Delta Zeta announced that they will be hosting a Black Heart Black Tie Valentine’s Day dance, 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Feb. 9 in the ballroom. There will be a DJ, photo booth, and food.

Feb. 15, CAB and The Pit are hosting “Lip-sync Battle” 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the Student Center. The Free Movie Nights for the rest of the spring semester are Feb. 18, March 18, and April 15.

The Olympics are a great time for the world to come together for a common interest; supporting their country. While everyday sports’ coverage is arguably overkill, the Olympics provide a different light onto sports in the media.

The Olympics call for an excuse for athletes to train harder than ever before and fight for their place to represent the country that they love so much and call home. It’s also an opportunity for citizens to cheer on their athletes.

It’s a time to look past race, ethnicity, sexuality and color, especially here in the U.S., and to simply cheer on your country in one of the greatest times of the year.

Many will argue that regular, everyday sports get too much coverage as it is and the Olympics are only making it worse. However, they fail

to realize all of the benefits that come from the world tuning in to watch the Olympics. And in most cases, people are rooting for their country, not individual athletes, creating a whole new feeling of patriotism and national identity.

It serves as an opportunity for the world to come together, in one location, at a mostly equal level. As athletes from all over the world join in one place, it gives people from all over the world a chance to get to know each other and compete. It creates a healthy and friendly competition because all athletes have a mutual respect for each other for the talent and training that it takes to get to this place.

Not only is the competition good, it’s also beneficial for people from other cultures to get to know each other.

Coverage on other countries educates

citizens about foreign cultures. Along with that, the athletes going home to talk about their competitors that they met, and people listen. It can bring more awareness to people all over the world for other cultures.

Lastly, it gives the world something positive to focus on for two weeks. Much of the negativity plaguing the news is silenced by loud cheering and the union of the world.

Providing something for people to focus on that’s not negative news is an opportunity anyone should jump on.

When people come together, great things happen. Apply that to the world, and the possibilities are endless.

In a goal of world peace and all coming together, learning about cultures around the world and uniting for friendly competition is a good step towards that goal.

Naps are not childish, they’re important

Bright Side Rachel Mitchell Columnist As a kid, I always took naps. Whether it was on the couch, on the floor of the living room, in the car or under the kitchen table. I have always been a big fan of naps. As I got older, many people thought they were childish. Little did they know they are the key to life.

Sleep is extremely important. If you don’t get enough sleep it can lower your immune system, make you bloated, make you moody, you eat more, your memory goes downhill and the list goes on.

I do recognize that not everyone can get the recommended 7-9 hours of

sleep. Between homework, work, attending classes, doing things around your house/dorm and making time for meals, your day can be over before you know it. I propose that you consider a nap.

Most of the time when people think of taking a nap, it is for an hour or so.

But the shocking truth is that the recommended nap time is actually 20-30 minutes! This makes naps much more time efficient. There are also plenty of benefits to naps. Some of the benefits include restoring alertness, enhanced performance and reduced mistakes and accidents.

A study at NASA on sleepy military pilots and astronauts found that a 40-minute nap improved performance by 34 percent and alertness by 100 percent. It also improves learning and work memory, improves your health and improves your mood, as I stated earlier.

Nobody is perfect, and that is ok Torri Brumbaugh Managing Editor I am a firm believer that if you’re going to do something, you better do it to the best of your abilities or there’s no point in doing it at all. I put myself under so much stress trying to be perfect all the time, but over the years I’ve realized that I need to become a firm believer in something else: nobody is perfect.

Growing up, it seemed that the idea of “perfection” was everywhere I looked. I saw magazine covers and infomercials promising to give you the “perfect” body. I strived everyday in school to get the “perfect” grades.

My parents never seemed to put the pressure of “perfect” on me. I was putting the stress on myself.

In the end, we are all human. And like it or not, being human comes with making mistakes. As a college student and a young adult, it is our job to make mistakes.

There is no way you can get through life without hurting at least one person’s feelings, getting a bad grade or accidentally napping through class.

It is our job to date the wrong person, get our feelings hurt and choose the wrong jobs. Without those mistakes, how are we supposed to grow?

Mistakes will be made, but we need to learn how to own up to them. Acknowledging that you have failed in some way is the first step to correcting your mistakes.

We all know that one person who is “always right” and everything is someone else’s fault. To me, it is incredibly annoying that they can’t own up to their actions and accept that they are as imperfect as the rest of us.

As the editor of The Eagle, I strive every week to put out a quality, accurate newspaper each week. While that is my goal, I have also accepted that our staff is full of students - students who are still learning. We try our best, but we are not experts and may put out a spelling error here and there. But with every error we make, we learn another lesson - as students should.

We sometimes catch a lot of flack if we put out errors, but professional papers, like the New York Times or the Washington Post, publish errors too. That’s right. Even huge newspapers make mistakes because at the end of the day, we are all still humans. No matter what age or level of experience.

Failure and mistakes are what build us into stronger, better people. Learn from your mistakes and remember that everyone around you is stumbling through their own mistakes too.

I put this theory to the test. I took a 34-minute nap in the middle of writing this column to see when my brain worked faster. After the nap I felt much more refreshed. It also encouraged me to spread the word of how much a nap can change your day. I highly recommend them.

Naps are like a mini-vacation during the day. They let you take a break from the hectic and chaotic world we live in.

It also benefits your body in so many ways. If you take away anything from my short column today, let it be that naps are not childish. They are great breaks, have benefits and suitable for all ages. #Naps2020.

A STATE OF MIN Hackenson teaches social media safety through hypnosis Sarah Townsend Contributor “With great power, comes great responsibility.” This was the main theme of the night for attendees of the hypnosis show in the ballroom Tuesday night.

Robert Hackenson Jr., a professional magician, certified hypnotist and “Master of Influence,” tied hypnosis and magic into an informative lecture about the effects of social media. Hackenson spoke to a room of nearly 100 students and staff, and pulled a few on stage to help with this demonstrations.

The topics covered by the self-proclaimed “edutainer,” or entertainer focusing on educating the audience, stretched from how social media affects mental health to how much time the average person spends on the internet. He touched on how to be safe on the internet and gave a few general guidelines about what to post and how to post certain images or messages on various social medias.

In terms of anxiety and addiction, Hackenson mentioned that the typical 15-to-25 year old spends over seven hours on social media a day and that teens send an average of 100 texts a day. He mentioned that there is a need for teens and adults alike to set “tech limits,” to limit time on screen and focus more on what is happening around them.

“Many teens these days are buried in their phones,”

Hackenson said. “I am in the process of creating an app called ‘Take Back My Life’ that helps to limit time on the screen.”

Hackenson also mentioned that social media is not only bad for those who spend too much time online, but it also creates a culture of cyberbullying. Because bullies are protected by the screen, sometimes anonymous and cannot physically see their victim and the pain they are inflicting, social media creates the perfect environment for bullying behaviors. Hackenson mentioned that posters should follow “The Golden Rule” while posting about others.

“Do not post about others what you would not want posted about you,” Hackenson said.

In his next segment, Hackenson brought up the idea of “Catfishing,” the art of pretending to be someone on the internet in order to create a relationship with another internet user. Going along with that topic, he brought up internet safety and how hackers, stalkers or other dangerous people could be following what certain individuals are doing and where they are because of “check ins” on apps like Facebook, FourSquare or even by following running paths on MapMyRun. According to Hackenson, social media can also hurt professional images because people may post something that they think is acceptable because they are able to delete it, however, he also mentioned that future employers can find basically anything they want

to and that, “the internet is forever.”

He told to audience to follow “The Billboard Rule,” and to “not post anything they wouldn’t mind seeing on a billboard.” He then tied this into how dangerous internet challenges like “the Tide Pod Challenge,” or “Cinnamon Challenge” can be, and how foolish it make participants look to their followers and future employers who search their profiles.

With each new topic, Hackenson used the chosen hypnotized participants to illustrate his points. He had them convinced that their parents stumbled upon embarrassing photos of them, that they were meeting their favorite celebrity and being “catfished,” as well as seeing that a post that they published was going viral unintentionally.

To tie the evening together, Hackenson reviewed the three rules that he thinks social media users should use. These include; Do not post anything about anyone that you would not want posted about you, only post what you would be comfortable being posted on a billboard and to remember that if you post items, they are online forever.

Philadelphia Eagles earn first Super Bowl victory RLA hosts party to see Patriots and Eagles face-off Torri Brumbaugh Managing Editor Students watched the Philadelphia Eagles win their first Super Bowl game against the New England Patriots, 41-33, at RLA’s Super Bowl Party Sunday, in the Hub. With 25 pizzas, chips, salsa and garlic bread twists, RLA was prepared to host a large Super Bowl party that everyone could enjoy, no matter what team they were rooting for.

“We’ve done it every year, but it’s usually with just one person, so I decided to have the Andrews Hall staff help out with it to make it bigger and better, that way everyone can enjoy it more and we can have more food and more help,” Associate Director Andrew Johnson said.

Johnson was excited to see the Eagles compete with a chance at their first Super Bowl title, but Patriots fans were very confident in their team.

“I’m rooting for the Patriots because we don’t do stupid here at

Chadron State,” Logan Douglas, 21, junior of Sidney, said.

Two televisions were set up in The Hub so that all who attended could enjoy the game.

Johnson said he expected 50-100 students to show up, but to his delight, there were over 100 people in attendance. All 25 pizzas were gone well before the game ended.

Gabriela Perez, senior of Sioux City, Iowa, said she partially came because she doesn’t have cable.

“Plus, I like watching it in an atmosphere where people are cheering on both sides. It just makes for a more intense and fun experience,” Perez said.

Those who attended the Super Bowl Party were entered to win prizes that were handed out after every quarter.

The prizes included merchandise that represented “local” football teams, like the University of Nebraska Lincoln Huskers and the Denver Broncos.

A Terrell Davis Broncos jersey was given away as a grand prize. Tatum Miller, 19, sophomore of Bridgeport, won the Hall-of-Famer’s jersey by guessing closest to the final score. She guessed 35-29 with the Eagles winning.

Monk remains a hit after nine years off the air Amazon Prime’s recent addition to their catalog is highly regarded

Contributor As I browsed the recent additions section of Amazon Prime, I was excited to see that they had added all of the seasons of the TV show Monk.

Monk is a show filled with mystery, emotion and loads of laughs. The show, which ran from 2002 to 2009, follows the crime solving adventures of Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) and has eight out of 10 stars on IMDb. Left heartbroken by the death of his wife in a car bombing, Adrian Monk pushes past his grief and overcomes his anti-social skills and obsessive-compulsive disorder to help people when no one else can.

With the help of his assistant Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), or in later seasons Natalie Teeger (Traylor How-

ard), Mr. Monk solves even the most convoluted cases of his friend Captain Leland Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) and comic relief, Lieutenant Randy Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford). Together, this cast delivers a story that is both hilarious and heart touching.

A typical episode will open with the scene of the crime, setting the tone of the episode.

After the theme song, “It’s a Jungle Out There” by Randy Newman (and one of my personal favorite parts of the show), you open on Mr. Monk carefully inspecting the cleanliness of his recycling jars, arguing with his assistant about not endorsing her paycheck or taking out the bagged-paperedbagged-again-plasticwrapped-ziplocked-single-dirty-tissue trash from his apartment.

From there, you move on to the crime scene and whatever the baffling case of the week is.

low leads in the typical crime drama style, leading to the solution of the case and Adrian Monk proving ‘the guy’ did it. In every episode Monk tells the story of the crime in his “Here’s what happened” flashbacks.

From the direction of threads on a button to stolen shoes and an askew sundial, no detail is too small or insignificant for Adrian Monk to crack the case.

The last scene of each episode ends with a smile, a laugh and the fond memories of Mr. Monk for his dearly departed wife, Trudy.

So, take my advice, watch Monk (you’ll thank me later) and appreciate that bitter-sweet feeling that lasts so much longer and means so much more than just a smile.

Eagles finish ninth at RMAC Tournament McKenna Jones Reporter

The CSC wrestling team traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado, Saturday, for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships, where they faced tough competition.

The Eagles finished in ninth place, with a team score of 44.5 points.

The tournament was won by California Baptist University, who scored 132.5 points. Five Eagle wrestlers placed at the RMAC championships.

Jacob DeSersa, 149-pound sophomore of Hot Springs, South Dakota, finished second in the 149-pound bracket. DeSersa pinned Colorado State University-Pueblo’s Jared Mestas, 141-pound senior of Pueblo, Colorado, in the first match. Mestas was the bronze medal winner from last year’s RMAC championships. DeSersa won by disqualification over New Mexico Highland University’s Reis Humphrey, 157-pound redshirt senior of Overland Park, Kansas. DeSersa lost in the first-place match by injury default.

Jacob Otuafi, 157-pound redshirt sophomore of Sparks, Nevada, defeated Kyle Fantin, Colorado State University-Pueblo’s 157-pound senior of Cave Creek, Arizona. Fantin was a former NCAA qualifier, and lost to Otuafi by decision, 4-3. Otuafi finished fifth in the 157-pound bracket.

Chance Karst, 133-pound sophomore of Powell, Wyoming, finished in fifth place in the 133-pound bracket. Karst pinned Colby Duncan, 133-pound redshirt freshman of Crook, Colorado, in the second match.

Karst also won by medical forfeit in the fifth-place match.

Rulon Taylor, 285-pound redshirt junior of Curtis, also placed fifth in the RMAC championships. Taylor wrestled Colorado School of Mines’ Weston Hunt, 285-pound freshman of Pueblo West, Colorado, twice, defeating him by decision in the first match 6-3, and by decision 3-2, in his last match.

Johnny Porter, 165-pound redshirt junior of Bellevue, went 0-3, but placed sixth in 165-pound bracket.

The Eagles compete at the Rocky Mountain Open, Sunday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m. in Golden, Colorado.

23 seasonal bests earned at CU Open track meet Reporter The Chadron State Track and Field teams competed in the CU Open in Boulder, Colorado this past weekend. Despite intense competition from some of the best Division I teams in the region Chadron State performed well.

“It was a breakthrough weekend for a large part of our group,” Head Coach Riley Northrup said. “While we didn’t go out and win a bunch of individual titles, we were able to set 18 personal bests (indoors) and 23 seasonal bests.”

The Eagle men were led by Isaac Grimes, freshman from Rancho Verde, California. Grimes won the triple jump with an impressive mark of 48 ¾. He also placed 2nd in the Long Jump with a leap of 23-5 ¼. Grimes has been a stalwart point contributor for the Eagles. This week he scored two-thirds of the team’s point total.

The men’s team finished with a total of 27 points and placed eighth of the 19 teams at the meet. Their performance was better than two NCAA Division I teams in the competition. Despite facing the region’s best athletes the Eagles proved their merit.

The Eagle women also showed their strength in the field events. The Weight Throw was once again a strong point for the Eagles. Ashton Hallsted, sophomore of Casper, Wyoming, placed 4th with a throw of 58-7 ½. Hallsted was chosen as the RMAC Athlete of the Week. Once place behind Hallsted was, Ashlyn Hanson, senior of Seward, with a throw of 56-6 ½.

The women’s scoring was rounded out by Maddie Brashears, junior of Fort Morgan, Colorado. Her leap of 17-5 ½ was good enough for 7th place. Brashears’ jump added 2 of the women’s total 11 points. The Lady Eagles finished in a tie for 14th place Although no Eagles were able to score on the track there were several solid performances. On the men’s side Javan Lainer, sophomore of Aurora, Colorado placed 8th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.92. The women were led by Alisha Heelan, Senior of Oshkosh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.31.

The Eagles are back in action this weekend in Brookings, South Dakota. The SDSU Indoor Classic will be their last competition before the RMAC championships.

Scearcy debuts as head softball coach Devin Fulton Reporter

Kaley Scearcy comes from Mankato, Minnesota, but has found her home here in Chadron. Prior to taking over the head coaching position, Scearcy was a coaching assistant under Robert Stack in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Now, she is in a prime position to take this Eagle squad to the next level.

To start their season, the women’s softball team traveled to Lubbock, Texas for what would be a busy opening weekend. The Eagles had their ups and downs as they walked away from the weekend with two wins and three losses.

On opening day, the Eagles outdueled the Falcons from TexasPermian Basin, 16-3 in six innings. The score was rather close (5-3) until the Eagles went on an unanswered 11-point run which would ultimately seal the early victory for the Eagles. Megan Horn, soph-

omore of Colorado Springs, Colorado pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts. Later in the afternoon of that Friday, the Eagles would play Lubbock Christian and fall 3-0.

On Saturday, the women’s softball team stayed put in Lubbock, Texas as Chadron State would play against Midwestern State University and Texas-Permian Basin in a rematch. Against Midwestern State, the Eagles fell 4-6. In the second game on Saturday, the Falcons were able to defeat the Eagles in a score of 4-1.

To wrap up a busy opening weekend in Texas, the Eagles faced off against the Emporia State University Hornets. Despite losing three in a row, Chadron State found a way to walk away from Lubbock with another win as the Eagles defeated the Hornets in a walkoff fashion 5-4. Responsible for the walk-off base hit in the seventh inning was Aspen Eubanks, senior of Broomfield, Colorado.

The women’s softball team will travel to St. George, Utah as they get ready to compete in The Dixie State Easton Classic to face off against five non-conference opponents.

Eagles return empty handed in their final away games Devin Fulton Reporter The men’s basketball team traveled to Colorado over the weekend for what would be their final away games of the season. Unfortunately, the Eagles came away empty handed, extending their losing streak to 15 games.

On Friday night, the Eagles played against the Colorado Christian University Cougars, Lakewood, Colorado, and lost the game 91-70.

Despite the loss on Friday night, the men’s basketball team

was able to get their big-guy back to full participation. Michael Johnson, sophomore of Nassau, Bahamas played for 20 minutes and put up 14 points, going 7-8 from the field.

Matt Reader, senior of Appleton, Wisconsin, led both teams with six rebounds and blocked four shots on the night. However, it was the Cougars 51-point surge in the second half that was too much for the Eagles to overcome.

On Saturday, the Eagles traveled to Golden, Colorado as the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers defeated the Eagles by a score of 83-56. The Eagles were unable to develop a rhythm on offense throughout the night.

“I’m proud of how our guys competed,” Head Coach Houston Reed said, “We were unable to overcome their size and experience in the guard positions.”

Currently sitting at the bottom of the RMAC with a 1-16 conference record (3-20 overall), the Eagles will finish their season with five home games.

“We look forward to the opportunity to compete and find a way to finish our season on a positive note,” Reed said.

The Eagles will host Metropolitan State University of Denver on Friday, and University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Chicoine Center.

Women’s Basketball Team travels to Colorado Feddersen and Foxen stand out during weekend games Ashley Jackson Reporter

The Chadron State Eagles won one and lost one on their road trip this weekend to the Denver area. The Eagles beat Colorado Christian University on Friday, 56-40 but lost to the Colorado School of Mines, 71-55 on Saturday. This moves the Eagles to a 5-18 overall record and a 3-14 conference record.

Kalli Feddersen, senior of Rawlins, Wyoming, led the Eagles in scoring on Friday.

Feddersen scored 20 points for the night, but made three of her 11 attempted field goals. Feddersen made the majority of her points from the free throw line, scoring 14 of her 16 attempts. Taryn Foxen, freshman of Aurora, Colorado, scored 17 points on Friday. Foxen made seven of her 20 attempted shots, but only made one of her four attempted free throws.

According to Head Coach Janet Raymer, Foxen is starting to find her place on the team and has had a chance to shine despite injuries that have happened this season.

The Eagles had a 26.3 field goal shooting percentage, and an 82.1 free throw shooting percentage.

Feddersen led the team in rebounds as well as points, grabbing two offensive and

five defensive rebounds. Foxen rebounded the ball five times, twice on offense and three times on defense. The team had 35 rebounds for the night.

The Eagles turned the ball over 12 times on Friday night.

Feddersen and Foxen continued to dominate the scoreboard on Saturday.

Feddersen scored 14 points while Foxen followed close behind with 11 points.

Jessica Harvey, freshman of Morrill scored eight points for the Eagles. The Eagles had a 26.9 shooting percentage for the night.

Feddersen made seven of her nine attempted free throws, making her 77 percent from the free throw line. Bailey Brooks, freshman of Douglas, Wyoming went 50 percent from the free throw line, making three of her six attempted shots.

Foxen led the team in rebounds on Saturday night, grabbing 10 total rebounds, three on offense and seven on defense. Brooks grabbed seven for the night, four on offense and three on defense. The Eagles grabbed 48 total rebounds.

The Eagles continue their conference journey this weekend at home. They will take on Metropolitan State University of Denver on Friday. On Saturday the Eagles will take on the University Colorado at Colorado Springs.
