SOFTBALL TEAM TO OPEN HOME SEASON

St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chadron will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 14 with the dramatic presentation of St. Patrick’s life

by Michael Reardon and Patrick Lane. The presentation will be one hour, 15 minutes long and will be at 340 Cedar St.

The CSC softball team will open its home and conference season Saturday and Sunday with double headers scheduled against Colorado Mesa University, Grand Junction. The first games are scheduled for noon Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.

Aquatics Center almost ready for opening Melanie Nelson News Editor The Chadron Area Aquatics and Wellness Center is in the final stages and projected to open Wednesday.

CAAWC Supervisor Brandon Girard said all they have left to do is bring in some items from the old pool and clean.

Girard said the opening date is still not confirmed however. There will possibly be an open house for the public once the center does open.

Girard said they are still fundraising and “actively looking at grants” to cover the building costs.

urday, and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Girard said lap swim will probably begin at 6 a.m., followed by water aerobics classes.

He said open swim will probably start at 3 p.m. CSC’s currently enrolled students may come to the classes, lap swim and open swim hours for free with a valid student ID card.

The center also has a walking track, a therapy pool, and a conference room.

Girard said they are currently taking applications from CSC students for work study lifeguard positions. The applicant will have to be lifeguard certified. There are no desk jobs open, as that will be part of the lifeguards’ position. To apply, there is a student employment link on the CSC website under the human resources section of the employees tab.

Winter storm threatens Chadron Justin Brester Reporter Chadron and the surrounding areas should prepare for a winter storm in the upcoming days. After enjoying a taste of spring the past couple of weeks, winter returns to the region.

Wednesday morning the National Weather Service of Cheyenne, Wyoming, issued a Winter Storm Watch in effect from Wednesday night until Friday morning. According to the NWS, snow began to fall in southern Wyoming on Tuesday night and will move east throughout the week. The snowstorm is set to impact large parts of eastern Wyoming and the western Nebraska Panhandle, with accumulating snow expected to begin late Wednesday night and continue through Friday morning.

The forecast for Chadron is 8-14 inches of snow. East to northeast winds of 20-30 mph with gusts of 40 mph are also being anticipated causing low visibility and travel difficulties for the weekend. Low temperatures during the cold front will be in the teens and 20s until Monday.

A common phrase heard across campus when a snowstorm is looming is, “if it snows, it better snow enough for a snow day.”

For many students at CSC, if there is a chance of snow, hopes run high for a possible snow day. In January campus shut down for two days because of the

inclement weather. During that period, Alex Helmbrecht, director of college relations, became a popular name among students and faculty at CSC, as his name is attached to the electronic messages notifying students and faculty members that campus is closed. Although Helmbrecht is the one in charge of notifying students, the final decision is made by CSC President Randy Rhine.

“The main goal in the decision is to keep people safe,” Helmbrecht said.

Once the decision is made, Rhine alerts Helmbrecht, who then sends out the message as e-mails, text messages, and on social media to students, faculty and the public. Helmbrecht said the e-mail is the official communication between the college and the community and students. The servers are controlled and maintained by the college, while the text messaging service is controlled by a company called AlertSense.

“There hasn’t been a meeting so far to discuss the weather, but it is likely later today,” Helmbrecht said as of Wednesday morning.

There has been one forced cancellation due to the storm so far. An email from Helmbrecht states, “Chadron State College’s Teacher Interview Day scheduled for Friday at the Student Center has been canceled due to potential winter weather. The event will not be rescheduled. For more information, contact Janet Hartman at 308-432-6292.”

CAB tables discussion to approve new club Melanie Nelson News Editor A new club was seeking approval at the CAB meeting 6 p.m. Tuesday, but failed to send a representative or adequate information about the group.

Vice Chair of Finance Gavan Archibald read a request from the Association of Supervisor and Curriculum Development to be added as a member of CAB. The club is for education majors and the adviser is Assistant Education Professor John Buttiglieri. There was no further information given about the club, so CAB members did not feel they could vote yet. A Phi Beta Lambda representative moved to table the discussion, which was approved.

Vice Chair of Programming Trista Schell reported a great turnout for the Feb. 12 Free Movie Night, with more than 250 students signed in. She

also welcomed students to attend the open forum at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Student Center, which will be covering Spring Daze, the Chadron Area Aquatics and Wellness Center, and the Guidebook v. MobileUp app.

Vice Chair of Records Aaron Eagle announced that Life-Size Pool will be at 9 p.m. tomorrow in the Student Center. CAB and RLA are sponsoring the event.

Archibald reminded clubs that budget packets are due to the Activity Fee Board by March 3.

There was no treasurer’s report.

Members of the Spring Daze Committee asked clubs to sign up to have a booth at the event as soon as possible. Schell added that it is a prime time to recruit incoming freshman to your club.

With Chair Morgan Carrico, Vice Chair of Relations Shae Brennan, Advisers Cassie Mitchell and Deena Kennell, and Student Trustee Coy Clark all absent, the brief meeting ended at 6:11 p.m.

Student brings backlash about possible pool allocation Melanie Nelson News Editor Senate and students discussed allocating $10,000 to the Chadron Area Aquatics and Wellness Center at the open forum Thursday.

Senate wanted to get students’ opinions on the allocation before a representative from the center came Monday to ask for another $10,000 for the project.

There was some opposition to giving the money to the center.

“When you look at opportunity cost, that $10,000 that we gave away, we could redo the volleyball courts, plant trees, or get started on a firepit project,” Nate Jones, graduate student of Papillion, said. “As a student I don’t feel that it’s in my best interest.”

Jones brought up making a deal with the

center, such as Senate giving them another allocation for two set dates throughout the year to have a CSC student pool party in return.

Senate had already given the center $20,000 two years ago and another $10,000 last semester, according to Senate President Katrina Hurley. Hurley said the center will hire CSC student workers and CSC students will be able to use the center for free as well.

Next on the agenda was Spring Daze. Sen. Teryn Blessin announced that Senate is purchasing hats through 4imprint, volunteer bracelets through Etsy, and tank tops and T-shirts through Outlaw Printers. Hurley announced that Senate approved a $366 allocation the previous Monday for advertising. The petting zoo was approved, but Senate is looking for a club to sponsor it and an adviser to supervise the area.

Campus Improvement Committee Chair Carly Slaght announced that Senate has de-

cided to go through Wal-Mart to replace the chairs at the Student Center computers. It will cost $515 for 15 chairs from Wal-Mart, as opposed to almost $7,000 for 12 chairs through KI Furniture.

Next, Slaght said the committee is looking to replace the mailboxes in Brooks, and update the locking mechanisms on the mailboxes in Edna. The projected cost is about $17,000. Slaght said they are meeting with housing to see if they will split the cost. Hurley said there have been complaints of the mailboxes not locking after students open them and the locks being hard to open.

Senate was looking into changing the CSC app from Guidebook to MobileUp. However, Student Activity Director Cassie Mitchell said she may have “jumped the gun.” After meeting with Guidebook account manager Chris Trudell, she found Guidebook has just as many options as MobileUp, CSC is just not

currently utilizing all of them.

“We also have the ability, which I was initially told no, to personalize the brand,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell said Trudell has offered to have a mini video conference with Senate and CAB members to show how the app can be modified and personalized.

Trudell said Guidebook is a mobile platform, whereas MobileUp is more of a web-based platform. Therefore Guidebook allows for push notifications, chat, and other mobile options.

Hurley said Senate has put up recycling bins in all residence halls and academic buildings. She urged students to only put empty containers in the bins.

Hurley also announced that the general assembly will be Tuesday, which includes all Senate, RLA, and CAB members. She said the groups will discuss their goals for the year at the meeting.

Plainswalkers asked the Activity Fee Board for $1,150 to host two events and offer prizes at the events.

AFB recommended cutting the allocation because after talking to the club, AFB found that Plainswalker

had $875 in its accounts, and found a reimbursement of $500 and AFB decided $150 was excessive for the planning of events, so AFB suggested allocated Plainswalkers $600.

Sports Medicine asked AFB for $1,230 allocation for a developmental trip, $1,080, and club T-shirts, $150. The club has all of its $3,150 in its account and the club is filing to do fundraising and is expecting to raise $500. The club grew in members and came to ask for the allocation to cover the costs of the extra members. AFB recommended

allocating $800. They cut the allocation because for the clubs’ 26 people to go on the trip will be $2,000 and shirts will be $600, plus fundraising should cover the costs with only $800 extra funds instead of the $1,230 extra.

Andrews Hall Senator Michael Steube resigned from his position because he no longer lives in Andrews, but he was approved as an at large senator.

Student Trustee Coy Clark said he has heard rumors that senators who have been telling people not to run for Senate or for Senate president because they will lobby against them.

“I don’t care if you have reservations about people being senators,” Clark said. “but that’s a discussion to be had here (at the Senate meeting).

That’s not a discussion to be threatening people with. I really hope for the senators sake and the integrity of this organization, that those claims are false, and if they’re not, stop it.”

The Spring Daze Committee brought an itemized budget that will be discussed at the open forum at 5 p.m. today before Senate votes on the allocation. In total, the committee is asking for $37,000 which breaks down as $5,524.28 for apparel; $12,850 inflatables; $8,000

petting zoo; $2,500 club booths; $5,000 food truck; $500 Mr. & Mrs. Spring Daze; $800 pool party; $20 wristbands; $1,000 decorations; $800 contingency. The items add up to $36,994.28 and the committee rounded up to ask for $37,000.

The inflatable budget will cover a mechanical bull, eliminator, joust, bouncy boxing, bungee run, chaos obstacle course, adrenaline rush obstacle course, laser battle.

The committee planned for $50 per booth for clubs.

The $10,000 pool allocation was struck from the agenda to be moved to next week because the presenter for the pool ended up sick and was not able to come to Monday’s meeting. The allocation will be discussed at the open forum.

Vice President of Finance Lukas Klueber reported $45,432.08 in unallocated funds. Senate President Katrina Hurley explained that the number is only from the fall budget and after the eight-week drop date for the spring semester, Senate will have more money in its account, so there should be enough in the account to cover both the pool and Spring Daze allocation.

Chief Justice Samantha Merrill said that petitions for the upcom-

ing elections are due noon March 13. Senators Carly Slaght, Tierra Snyder, Herschel Foster, Gabrielle Brumfield, Steube, and Vice President Karson Langley are eligible for the run for Senate president. Slaght, Snyder, Foster, Brumfield, Steube, Langley, Konery Klueber, and Johnathan Sayaloune are eligible to run for vice president.

Campus Improvement Committee Chair Slaght said that Dale Grant, vice president of administration and finance, got back to the committee with a cost to replace mailboxes in Edna Hall and Brooks Hall to get rid of the dial-opening mailboxes. Slaght said she will check with housing to see if they will cover half the cost. Student Justine Stone, junior of Maywood, suggested to see if housing will pay the entire cost before offering to pay for half.

The feminine hygiene initiative will be discussed at the open forum again this week before Senate plans to vote on the $1,500 allocation Monday.

The Guidebook app will also be discussed at the open forum. Hurley said she has a PowerPoint presentation comparing different options for the app.

Hurley said the General Assembly will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Nebraska celebrates 150th anniversary

Nebraska’s 150th statehood anniversary is approaching; many people however have forgotten many key factors about Nebraska’s entry into statehood. Nebraska was admitted into statehood on March 1, 1867, about two years after the Civil War, making Nebraska the 37th state.

Nebraska did not start seeing major settlement until the California Gold Rush in 1848, with many people who once were settlers making the decision to be homesteaders in an almost uncharted territory in the 1860s. Things were not easy in the beginning for the homesteaders. Many had to face multiple climate changes and wildlife that they were unfamiliar with, but things became easier over time. Per 50states. com, the name Nebraska is based on an Otoe Indian word meaning “flat water,” which is about the Platte River, according to onlyinyourstate.com.

Once Nebraska was granted statehood, the homesteaders worked swiftly to put a governing body and state capital in place. Originally, the territorial capital was in Omaha but once they were granted statehood they chose to move it to Lancaster. Lancaster was soon renamed to Lincoln after former President Abraham Lincoln who had been recently assassinated by John Wilkes Booth.

In 1867, Nebraska adopted the phrase “equality before the law,” and is considered to be one of the more unique mottos amongst the states. It is similar

to Wyoming’s motto which is simply “Equal Rights.”

Both mottos were created during post-Civil War times and relate to minorities of any race and women. Since entering statehood, Nebraska has always stood for equality which is important to remember because equality gets overlooked so easily today.

Celebrating Nebraska’s 150th anniversary is important not only because we are all residents of the state whether it be because of school or growing up here. Nebraska has been a state driven to help the people instead of corporations, and it has been that way since entering statehood. Nebraska may not be a place that you hear many people who aren’t from here talk about, but it’s still as important as any other state. Many famous inventors, actors, athletes, and politicians were all born right here in the state and are proud of it.

The 150th anniversary of Nebraska’s statehood should be a day filled with pride as we look back and remember what those brave settlers and homesteaders had to go through as they embarked on a new, uncertain journey.

In the last 150 years, Nebraska has gone from almost unknown territory to a thriving state with 1.8 million residents. Nebraska is expanding rapidly so this celebration should be about growth and prospering and hoping that the next 150 years are just as prosperous as the last 150 years.

T h i s weekend my brother lost out in the heartbreak round Friday night, w h i c h meant he was one win away from earning a medal at the state tournament, and that hurt. It hurt Jarred that he was so close, yet not quite there, and it hurt my mom and my dad because they had invested so much emotionally into Jarred’s sport, and it hurt me to have to watch my brother be so close to his goal, yet not reach it.

But, only a few minutes after losing his final match of his wrestling career, Jarred was laughing and smiling with his teammates because Jarred is tough.

When my mom watches wrestling, she literally does not breathe, she gets vomit stuck in her throat, and her neck and face turn cherry red. During every meet my brother had in Omaha, I cried from nerves and excitement for him. Mom and I are not nearly as tough as Jarred, but I guarantee you we are both tougher than we were when my family started this journey through wrestling 11 years ago.

Friday night, when Jarred lost and his wrestling career ended (he had offers for collegiate wrestling, but decided against it), I was sad. I hated watching the sport for 11 years, but was sad when it was over.

I will miss the adrenaline rush, I will miss the thrill of a win, and I will miss the wonderful people who came into my life because of this sport. Because wrestling works its way into your heart and it sticks, and the team becomes family and the families become family. Even when you have never competed in the sport yourself, it becomes a part of you.

Baseball is still the best sport the world offers, but wrestling isn’t so bad either.

But still being a wrestling fan is a real struggle, but chocolate is also real, so life must still be sweet.

Entitlement is ruining the country Brianna Wilson Reporter

The country is a divided place more than ever right now.

People are so caught up in the political battles. It seems like the more extreme the right gets, the more extreme the left becomes to compensate and we end up overcompensating in the end to create a nasty, unneeded battle.

Why are people so nasty? I grew up in a family that is set in its ways. My parents are definitely situated on the right wing and my brother falls into that line. We don’t talk politics in my house because I fall more toward the left wing.

I don’t consider myself pro-anything except pro-person.

Pro-free-will. Call it what you want.

I don’t have the right to judge the actions of other people and I definitely don’t have control over them. That doesn’t mean I’m without opinions and that doesn’t mean I don’t judge—but, in general, I try not to. It’s not my place.

But we seem to have put ourselves in a hateful position as a country.

I read an article this weekend, “4chan: The Skeleton Key

to the Rise of Trump” by Dale Beran published on medium. com and it article struck a lot of truths and seemed to make logical sense, based on my own experience.

It talked about the start of a website that started out small but has grown. It talked about how part of the reason President Trump won the election was because he was expected to lose. People, particularly young “man-boys” who live in their mothers’ basements, voted for him simply out of spite for the rest of society.

These “man-boys” are considered losers. They voted for the biggest loser of them all (in a sense). And then he turned out to be the loser that won.

They don’t care about his hate speech or the minimal likelihood that he’ll actually manage to fulfill his promises.

They care that they actually managed to win something for a change, no matter the consequences.

We’ve created a society that hates. And the more we swing to the left or the right, the more extreme that gap gets between the two, the more we learn to hate each other and separate.

President George Washington warned America about the dangers of political parties when he stepped down from presidency in 1797.

I’ve always seen his point, but it becomes more and more clear as time wears on.

People feel like they’re entitled to things they’ve never earned. The baby boomers hold this against the millennials and the millennials feel alienated by the baby boomers.

They feel like they’re entitled to something because they went to college. They feel the world owes them something because … who knows?

Wake up.

The world doesn’t owe you anything. And if you want to succeed, you have to do it yourself.

No one is going to get that job for you. No one is going to talk to that girl or guy for you. You have to do it yourself.

If you want to succeed, you have to try. And you have to keep trying.

And through trying and moving out of the basement, getting a job, making a community, we create bonds. We grow closer together.

And we have to fix ourselves by starting with our own hearts. Get rid of the hate there. Then go forth and help others get rid of their hate.

The first step to solving any problem is realizing that there is one.

That is the nature of the implemented policy by Baylor University for the athletic department, while it was under former coach Art Briles to entice new recruits to play for his Baylor; by utilizing sex to sell. Some of the underage recruits were escorted to strip clubs, or met with women who had been arranged to have sex with them.

In a court filing, it was estimated that from 2011 through 2014, there had been 52 rapes conducted by 31 football players.

As the investigation continues it has been discovered that not only have there been terrible demonstrations of behavior in regards to sexual consent and decency, but there’s also been a high use of drugs, reports of physical assault and domestic violence… How is this still a problem on our campuses? What is it we can do to prevent such further behavior that has no place in modern society?

I find myself struggling to even comprehend the mindset one has to have in order to feel entitled to another person’s body.

This problem isn’t just exclusive to Baylor, it applies to all of us,

and inaction is no longer an option.

Baylor’s policies and encouraged debauchery only puts a spotlight on the background shady happenings that occur nationwide on our campuses in order to ensure enrollment and the continued selling of cheap sports merchandise.

When I first came to college my parents insisted that I never drink at a party for fear of me getting drugged. Even when I partake now, I ensure that the people I surround myself with are trusted people that won’t take advantage of me while in an inebriated state; but what kind of world are we perpetuating when people have to fear for the well-being of their bodies in exchange for a night out?

Chadron has done a wonderful job in implementing and enforcing Title IX and providing mediums through which victims can receive help, but even so, the fight goes on.

The Cornhuskers’ history Nebraska is commonly known as the “Cornhusker” state, but many people do not know the origin of the name or how the state adopted it. Before the 1900s the football team at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln went by many different names such as the Old Gold Knights, but in 1892 the university adopted its scarlet and cream, which are used today. The only difference being that at the time they were the Bugeaters. The Bugeaters found success having winning seasons every year until 1899.

In 1899, the university had its first losing season in almost 10 years and decided they wanted to move on from being the Bugeaters but had no idea what they wanted to change the name to. Charles S. Sherman, who was a sports writer for the Lincoln Star Journal at the time, was tired of calling the team the Bugeaters and started a search of his own. At the time Iowa, who we now know as the Hawkeyes, were the Cornhuskers and the Hawkeyes, but leaned toward the Hawkeyes. Sherman loved the name and started calling the University of NebraskaLincoln the Cornhuskers and the 1900 team was the first to go by that name. Soon after the name went from just a college-team nickname to the official state nickname.

Cornhusking is the process of removing the husks from the ears of corn, now it can be done with a machine, in older times it had to be done by hand. The name is fitting for the state because Nebraska is one of the leading states in corn production. Nebraska’s 2016 corn production

Senior hoopers prepare for ‘last dance’ John Murphy & Jay Feltson Reporter & Opinion Editor With only two games left in the season, six Eagle seniors, three men and three women, are preparing to play their last games in a Chadron State College uniform.

The Eagles will play Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota, Friday, and South Dakota School of Mines, Rapid City, Saturday, for Senior Night. Tipoff for the women’s game is set for 5:30 p.m., with the men to follow, for both games.

The three seniors for the men include Myles Busby, of Niles, Michigan; Cody Martinz, of Custer, South Dakota; and Warren Gordon, of Indianapolis, who all came to Chadron as transfer students.

Busby, who tore his meniscus in the Eagles 75-71 overtime victory against the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs on Dec. 9, 2016, will be back to help coach the Eagles next season before pursuing another career.

“I’ll be back next year to help coach,” Busby said. “In the distant future, I want to be an athletic director at the high school level.

“I’ll miss being in the locker room after practices and laughing at all the funny stuff Coach Reed says the most,” Busby said. “It’ll be great to be back next year.”

Martinz joined CSC after two years of junior college. When in for the Eagles, Martinz brings energy to both the team and the crowd.

Against New Mexico Highlands University, Las Vegas, he started and scored six huge points for the Eagles in only seven minutes of play.

“Getting to start the night my family came to the game and having amazing support from my teammates will always be remembered,” Martinz said.

Martinz plans to work as a basketball skills trainer somewhere after graduation. He doesn’t care where, as long as he’s in the gym with a ball in his hands every day.

Herl continues remarkable season, wins two events Preston Goehring Sports Editor Once again, Mel Herl, senior of Eaton, Colorado, won the women’s shot put and weight throw at the Black Hills State Stinger Open, Friday, in Spearfish, South Dakota.

With a toss of 49 feet, 1/4 inch in the shot put and a throw of 70-4 1/2 in the weight throw, she earned two more wins. Her shot put toss was a season best.

Herl’s season best of 71-10 in the weight throw is No. 2 in D-II. Only Kaitlyn Long, junior of Winona State University, Minnesota, owns a better mark, with a 72-6 1/2.

For the shot put, Herl’s best mark places her second in the South Central Region. Norma Cunigan, sophomore of West Texas A&M, Canyon, leads the region with a throw of 50-5 1/4.

Four other Eagle women placed in throwing events.

Danielle Weyer, freshman of Fremont, placed third in the shot with a 38-6 1/4. Another freshman, Ashton Hallsted, of Casper, Wyoming, earned fifth with a 37- 1/4.

Ashlyn Hanson, junior of Seward, placed second in the

weight throw at 55-5 3/4. Hallsted placed third, throwing a 53-4 1/2. Keri Ruff, senior of Eaton, completed the sweep of the top four spots with a toss of 53-1 1/2.

For the men, the Eagles claimed four of the top five spots in the weight throw and three of the top five in shot put.

Cory Martens, redshirt sophomore of Newton, Kansas, won the weight throw with a 57-5 3/4 toss, a personal best. Not far behind was Blake Jacobs, junior of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, with a throw of 56-6 1/2, also a personal best. Jesse Bleidt, junior of Lewellen, threw a 55-11 1/2, good for third. David Aldridge, junior of Omaha, rounded out the top five with a 51-1/4.

In the shot put, Martens earned second with a 52-2, just six inches short of first place. Jacobs placed third at 51-4 1/4, and Aldridge won fourth, his toss going 51-1 3/4.

Only throwers competed at the Stinger Meet. Two Eagles, one on the men’s side, the other on the women’s, competed at the Joe Davies Meet, also Friday, hosted by Colorado School of Mines, Golden.

Andre Woodson, senior of Sacramento, California, led

in prelims in the 60-meter dash, running it in 6.91 seconds, but jumped the gun of the finals race, disqualifying him. LaChristopher Smith, junior of the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, won with a time of 6.92.

Maddie Brashears, sophomore of Fort Morgan, Colorado, placed sixth in the long jump, leaping 18-1 1/2. Sarah Herron, sophomore of Concordia University, Irvine, California, set the winning jump of 19-7, an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

CSC will be in Spearfish, South Dakota, again this weekend for the RMAC Championships, Friday and Saturday. Friday’s events will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the 60m hurdle section of the pentathlon. Saturday’s events will also begin at 8:30 a.m., with the 60m hurdle section of the heptathlon. According to the RMAC website, the awards presentation will begin at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday.

The women’s team is ranked No. 12 in the nation, according to the USTFCCCA website. Adams State University, Alamosa, Colorado, is second in the nation and Western State Colorado University, Gunnison is ranked seventh.

When looking into car rental locations avoid renting from airports. Additional fees accumulate from the airport tax. Finding a rental car location farther from the airport can save up to 25 percent off a rental fee.

Discounts.

Belonging to an auto club like AAA can result in member discounts. For example, AAA members can save up to 20 percent on car rentals. Joining the company email list can also result in discounts. Alamo offers a deal called Alamo Insider which saves renters 5 percent on the final total.

Prepaid gamble.

Car rental prices can fluctuate because of demand. Some companies offer a discount for paying before you pick up your vehicle. You will need to decide if you want to prepay and save some money or take the gamble of the rental cost to decrease before your trip.

“I put the program on because it was something I did in the summer of 2016 and [I] found it to be really fun growing your own plants in your room,” Jazz Bozner, 25, graduate student of Rock Springs, Wyoming, said.

United teaches students about LGBT+ community Kira Fish Reporter The Chadron State College Residence Life Association, with help from the CSC United Club, discussed lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT+) terminology and being an ally in a brief program at 7 p.m.

Tuesday.

According to Kodi Baumann, 22, junior of Chadron, the event was intended to spread awareness about the LGBT+ community and the on-campus LGBT+ club, United.

“I personally have a lot of friends who are involved in that group (United), so this is something that touches close to home for me as something to spread awareness about,” Baumann said. “I’m hoping the event will give people a better understand-

ing of what people who are in that club are about, and do, and that there is more to the club. It’s not just a club for people who identify as anything in the LGBTQ name, but also as allies who are friends who support equal rights.”

Baumann and Casey Kukowski, 19, freshman of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, the Campus Activities Board member for the CSC United Club, displayed a slideshow presentation about being an ally, which is

a term for a straight/heterosexual person who supports equal rights for members of the LGBT+ community. The slideshow also included sections discussing LGBT+ terminology and anti-bullying tactics. Kukowski read excerpts from an essay published by GLSEN, an organization for promoting the welfare of LGBT+ youth.

The event included refreshments and the opportunity to make anti-bullying bracelets. Around 40 people attended.

‘Teen Titans Go!’ insults original ‘Teen Titans’ Caleb Wiederhold Cartoonist Did you ever watch “Teen Titans,” in 2003? Well, in 2013, Cartoon Network decided to remake the show with a bad re-animation, transforming the characters to dislikable and stupid, and insulting the fans of the original show, thus calling it “Teen Titans Go!” This show revolves around the Titans’ (Robin, Starfire, Beast Boy, Raven, and Cyborg) funny business when not saving the world. While there are some people that like this show, there’s a good majority that loathe it and I’m probably going to have to side with those that loathe “Teen Titans Go!” I watched a few episodes and noticed that there were even worse episodes to come.

Many of them include Cyborg and Beast Boy saying “waffles” for 11 minutes, Starfire being friends with a boil on her stomach, and a Scooby-Doo-parody episode with LeBron James.

I get there are LeBron fans and haters out there, but why did he choose to take part in this episode?

This episode currently has a 5.1 out of 10 rating on IMDb. There was a Marvel Comics cartoon named “Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.” that Chris Bosh, another NBA star, voiced Heimdall in one episode and that currently has a 7.6 out of 10, an improvement from the LeBron James episode.

Also, some episode titles don’t even go with the plot of the episodes. The episode “Return of Slade” was the most disliked out of all of them. The creators decided to lure fans in by having a title with a villain

I also learned from YouTube that “Teen Titans Go!” was beginning to be a time-slot filler. Somehow, Cartoon Network began filling up its time slots with “Teen Titans Go!” The network did not even bother to schedule any shows that people consider good. Are they trying to annoy viewers even further by replaying older episodes? The more they replay the episodes, I’m guessing, the more it would make viewers stop watching.

“Teen Titans Go!” is an insult to the original show, an insult to the original’s fans, and I can side with those who loathe this show. If there are more new episodes coming out, change the channel immediately.

While the 90-minute drive from Chadron is an inconvenience, you won’t be disappointed. Here are the five best things about Fuji: 1. The Hibachi Grill not only delivers a heaping plate of delicious fried rice or noodles, steak, chicken, shrimp, or seafood, and vegetables, but the chefs put on a great show.

The Fuji chefs make your dinner a fun experience, from throwing broccoli to the guests to doing tricks with eggs to singing and dancing, you definitely won’t be bored during dinner.

2. I recently sampled a couple different

types of sushi, and while I don’t like every kind I try, Fuji offers more than 30 types of fresh sushi, so there are endless options to find something you like. My favorite thus far is the Super Crunchy Roll. Fuji’s menu explains this roll as “Assorted fish, cream cheese, cucumber, avocado, tobiki and scallion mayo – topped with eel sauce and spicy mayo, deep fried.” The deep fried is what changes this roll for me. It adds a crunchy texture and the sauce drizzled over the top of the roll almost tastes like barbecue sauce. I guess I am a true American, even when I eat Japanese food, I still choose the deep-fried, barbecue option.

3. As if the huge plate of food you’re about to eat isn’t enough, you also get the house salad and onion soup with your Hibachi Grill meal. The house salad isn’t what you typically think of when you think house salad. The greens are fresh and cold like normal, but

the tangy dressing is like nothing you’ve ever tasted. The first few times I went to Fuji, I didn’t touch my onion soup, but once I finally worked up the courage, I immediately regretted my previous actions. I can’t even put the soup into words, but trust me, it’s good.

4. Sexy Sauce or Yum Yum Sauce; enough said. Just kidding, but not really, because there’s nothing that compares to Sexy Sauce.

I don’t know if Sexy Sauce or Yum Yum Sauce is the official name of the sauce, but if you’ve been to Fuji, you know exactly what I am referring to because the chefs say it about 30 times each meal, and it tastes amazing.

5. The quality of food for what you pay is exceptional. Justifying a $20 meal may be tough for many college students, but if you save Fuji for special occasions, the $20 is worth it. And comparably, most of us can easily spend $10-$15 at any fast food restau-

rant that isn’t nearly as good as Fuji. The huge plate of rice, meat cooked to your standards, and veggies, is easily enough two meals for me. And if you do finish your entire meal, you won’t leave the restaurant hungry, that’s for sure.

Fuji is a great restaurant, even for people who aren’t huge fans of Asian cuisine.

The show is awesome, and the Hibachi steak and chicken are a great way to go for more reserved eaters. You have nearly unlimited options to avoid the foods you’re not crazy about. And if you’re still nervous about the Japanese food, the chicken nuggets and French fries meal on the kids menu is always an option.
