NATIONAL TRIO DAY CELEBRATED TODAY Pizza and cake will be served in the Project Strive area of the library beginning at 5 p.m. today to celebrate National TRIO Day. The day is celebrated nationally on the last Saturday of February every year to reflect on the importance of the program.

Senate hosts constitutional changes forum Justine Stone & William McLaughlin News Editor & Reporter An open forum concerning constitutional changes in the CSC Student Association Constitution was Thursday.

One student was in attendance.

Student Senate President Katrina Hurley said the majority of the changes made to the constitution include format, spelling, and linguistics in order to clarify the rules.

Proposed changes include changing “Student Association” to “Student Senate” throughout the first 10 pages.

Hurley said this change was proposed because “student association” refers to the entire student body whereas “Student Senate” only includes the senators and executive board members. Another proposed change is to change the spelling of “bylaws” and to change “Treasurer” to “Vice President of Finance for the Student Association” throughout the constitution to be consistent.

Under Article I, Section 1, the committee added “sex” and “gender identity” to the following sentence: “All students of this college shall be members of the Association by virtue of their enrollment at Chadron State College and shall not be discriminated against on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status.”

Under Article II, Section 1, the committee proposed a change that allows senators to vote if they are enrolled in 12 undergraduate credit hours or nine graduate credit hours instead of requiring the hours to be completed. They amended a sentence to read, “Upon being sworn in to Student Senate, Senators shall retain full discussion and voting privileges.” They also amended a

sentence to read, “No Senator shall be on academic or disciplinary probation.”

Under Article II, Section 2, the committee amended a sentence to read, “Senators must be residents in the hall of which they shall represent throughout the duration for their term.”

Under Article II, Section 3, “not” was struck in the following sentence: “Those majoring in Education shall not be allowed to seek election from their endorsement department.”

Under Article II, Section 5, the committee amended a sentence to read, “Student senators may introduce, for consideration by the Senate, constitutional amendments or Bylaw changes bearing the signatures of (3) senators.”

Under Article II, Section 7, the committee amended a sentence to read, “In the event of an electoral tie, the senatorial candidates shall present their qualifications orally at the next full meeting of the Senate.”

Under Article III, Section 3, the committee amended the sentence to read, “The president shall appoint students to committees requiring student representation, in the event that positions remain vacant. The appointed representative may appeal their appointment to the Constitutional Court should the need arise.” The committee added, “24 hour notice must be given for any special meetings called by the president.” The committee also added “on Student Senate” to the following sentence: “Members of the Court shall serve ex officio on Student Senate.”

Open forums regarding constitutional changes will be at 4 p.m. every other Thursday in the Senate office in the Student Center. There is not an open forum today.

BRIEFS February is Advising Month at Chadron State February is advising month for CSC students. Registration for summer and fall 2016 and spring 2017 is open for all students.

Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment with their academic adviser to arrange a course plan for the next academic year. After meeting with their adviser, students should register on MyCSC or in the START office in Crites Hall.

Students must address all holds and past due balances on their account before enrolling for classes.

Nebraska Press Women Memorial Scholarship A $750 scholarship is available for graduate or full-time upperclass undergraduate female students who are studying mass communication. The recipient should be in the second half of her second academic year at a Nebraska college or university. Undergraduates must be enrolled in at least 12 credits, and graduates at least nine credits.

To apply, the form is available at nebraskapresswomen.org. One to three samples of applicant’s work are required. A letter explaining the applicant’s achievements and goals and a letter of reference from an adviser or faculty member is required. The deadline for applying is March 18. Club’s budget packets due March 4 Justine Stone Vice Chair of Finance Molly O’Connell said budget packets are due March 4. Five percent will be cut out of the clubs’ budgets for each day they are late. The packets should be turned into afb@csc.edu and on the Sakai site.

O’Connell said her office hours to help with the budget packets are from 12-2:30 p.m. today, tomorrow, and Tuesday. On Monday and Wednesday she will be in the office from 12-5 p.m.

At the beginning of the meeting, clubs had spent $72,421.57 and have $81,643.34 remaining. CAB has spent $10,335.23 and has $1,364.77 remaining with one outstanding bill for a hotel room.

Constituents express concern about ‘Alice in Wonderland’ rave Justine Stone News Editor Mari Sandoz Center Museum Director Sarah Polak said the Sandoz Center will be hosting a Sandoz Center dance instead of an Alice in Wonderland rave. There were concerns about an Alice in Wonderland themed rave.

“What disappoints me is that people take something really beautiful and turn it into something ugly,” Polak said, through tears.

Senators tabled this discussion and will vote on an allocation at next week’s meeting. Polak said she will meet with clubs to see if they will still financially assist the Sandoz Center for this dance.

Senate has $17,790.50 in unallocated funds not including this semester’s student activity fees.

Senate postponed the Ride the Bus Program indefinitely because if a certain amount of students didn’t sign up, Senate had to pay the dividend.

Johnathan Sayaloune was voted in as an at large senator. There are two positions open—at large and E.H.P.C.P.S.W.—on Senate after the resignation of Senator of Andrews Hall Mieshia Coleman. Coleman said she resigned because she didn’t have time for Senate.

Kent Hall Senator Samantha Merrill said her constituents have expressed concerns regarding parking passes being stolen.

She suggested getting parking passes that can be placed inside vehicles.

Senator of E.H.P.C.P.S.W. Tate Jensen said he is setting up a time to meet with Keep Chadron Beautiful to talk about getting more recycling on campus.

Senator At Large Stephanie Alfred said the Campus Improvement Committee is drafting its bylaws and will bring them to next week’s meeting.

Alfred said the Campus Improvement Committee wants to cooperate with Northwest Communication Action Partnership to get community backing for the food pantry the committee is starting.

Career and Academic Planning Services Director Deena Kennell reminded senators that they should only call to question when there is no more productive or lively conversation.

Student Senate President Katrina Hurley said Vice President and Finance and Administration Dale Grant is looking to approve water bottle filling stations and will contact Senate when he knows where they can be installed.

Clubs can sign up for booths during Spring Daze on April 30 in the Ponderosa Room from 4-6 p.m. today.

TBE staff looks for sites The Big Event staff is looking for businesses and residents in Chadron to apply to be job sites for the upcoming The Big Event.

Businesses and residents will have to apply to be selected as a job site.

The Big Event is scheduled for April 23.

Those interested can contact Shaunda French, social and communication arts assistant professor, at sfrench@csc.edu or at 308-4326302 by April 1.

Some suggestions of job site services could include painting, landscaping, gardening, or any other community-service-type project.

In the past, The Big Event has traveled outside of Chadron but will focus the attention to just Chadron this year.

“This year we want to overstaff job sites, make sure job sites are completed in an efficient and timely manner,” French said.

Regret is about missed opportunities Jordyn Hulinsky Managing Editor This week in our Man on the Street question, we asked, “What is your biggest regret?” This idea came from a video on Facebook I watched a couple weeks ago.

When watching this video it’s hard not to think about your regrets in life.

The main theme of this video is that people most likely regret the things they didn’t do rather than the things they did do. The common word the people in the video used when describing their regrets was “not.”

Much to my disappointment, we did not get the same results from our survey, but I still think I have some valid commentary on the idea.

“People say they wouldn’t change a thing, even if they could, oh, but I would,” Kenny Chesney sang in A Lot of Things Different.

Chesney has a point in his song. Often times it’s hard for us as humans to admit we made a mistake, but I think deep down we all can admit to at least one regret.

Many times, the regrets we have in our lives aren’t from the things we do, but rather, from the things we don’t do.

“Fifty years from now looking back don’t you want to say you had the guts to get in the car,” Sam Witwicky, from “The Transformers,” said.

How many times have you been invited on an adventure but missed it because you were scared, or tired, or had homework, or any other excuse?

“All you need is 20 seconds of insane courage,” Benjamin Mee said in “We Bought a Zoo.”

Sometimes it takes courage to make a moment a memory and not a missed opp or tunity.

I believe few of us make it through life without missing at least one opportunity.

In summer 2014, one of the most important people in my life passed away from a car accident. Prior to his accident, I spent years avoiding him as much as possible because too many people made the suggestion to me, or my parents, that we were dating. This guy was the older brother my parents didn’t give me and there was no possible way we would ever date, and I was getting annoyed at the suggestion, so I avoided him and acted like he wasn’t that important to me. And now I have to live with the thought that he didn’t know how important he was.

That is my biggest regret.

And that’s why I’ve made it my mission in life to make sure those who are important to me know and really understand how much they do mean to me.

We all have regrets. We all make mistakes. We all miss opportunities. And we all wish we could have redoes in our lives. But life doesn’t have a rewind button. We just have to make the most of what we are given. Let those regrets, mistakes, and missed opportunities shape us to be better people in the future.

SENATE SPEAKS

A word from the Student Senate President This week in Student Senate we discussed the dance that the Sandoz Center wishes to put on. This event was going to be called a Rave and be ‘Alice in Wonderland’ themed. The event was planned to showcase an artist from Scotland that had decided to give the Sandoz Center rights to his Alice in Wonderland art.

This event was discussed through Senate and we hosted an open forum in which a few constituents attended to voice their opinions.

There have been reservations about the wording of the dance Rave.

There have also been other concerns about the theme being “Alice in Wonderland” and how both of these themes associate with the use of drugs. Senate has decided to wait another week for the vote for the dance in the Sandoz Center.

Due to the open forum and the tabling of the discussion, this coming Monday will be the fifth week the Sandoz Center director, Sarah Polak, has waited for the constituents to decide the vote on the dance.

Due to the concerns about the themes I am asking all students that have an opinion to please voice them to myself in the form of either an email to cscstudentsenate@eagle.csc.edu or attend my office hours 3-7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; and 4-8 p.m.

Chicoine needs Wi-Fi

R

enovation on the campus of Chadron State College is going well. Improvements upon existing structures are constantly being done and there are some new ones as well.

Some of the newest building on campus are the Rangeland Complex east of the softball field, Eagle Ridge units, also near the softball fields, and the Chicoine Center, an expansion of the Armstrong Gymnasium.

All three buildings are nice additions to CSC’s campus, but work is still being done until they are fully complete.

The Eagle Ridge housing units and the Chicoine Center are near completion with minor work being done each year. Rangeland has the most work left to do, with the arena being the only area that is usable by students and staff.

The Chicoine Center, is $16.2 million expansion of Armstrong and officially began construction in April 2013. The arena/playing area was completed in 2014 and ready for the 2014-2015 men’s and women’s basketball seasons.

The arena has been open for almost two years now and hosts a number of athletic and non-athletic events, but one thing missing in Chicoine is a Wi-Fi connection, which is considered one of the last things needed to be installed.

A $16.2 million renovation and expansion for a new athletic center and there still is no Wi-Fi. This may not seem like a big deal, but in this era of technology, it almost impossible to accomplish anything without Wi-Fi. The Eagle looked at this topic because two reporters on our staff also work as sports commentators for CSC Live, the online streaming service for CSC athletics and

Club budget season is upon us! Think of the Activity Fee Board packet as a vehicle to help inspire the creation of exciting events sponsored by clubs. Packets are available in the Student Government office. For new clubs with questions on the filling out the budget packet or the budget hearing process CAB Vice Chair of Finance Molly O’Connell will be having office hours in the Student Government office.

In the field of sports commentary and play-by-play, you have to know how sports are played, obviously, and be accurate with stats and numbers. It’s hard to know how well an athlete is doing when the stats are online and there is no Wi-Fi connection. They do get printed stats at certain breaks in the games, but they are helpful for a limited amount of time.

Numbers and stats change as the game continues and sports commentators have to be on their toes and ready to evaluate and break down the game as goes on.

That is not easy when you don’t have access to updated online stats.

From a student’s perspective it’s an annoyance as well when you go to an event and have to rely on cellular data from your phone company. Plus, the shape of the arena altogether makes it hard for cell phones to get a strong signal.

It seems strange that after having the Chicoine Center open for nearly two years the only way to connect to the internet in there is through an Ethernet cable connection. It doesn’t have to be on the top of list of first things to be done, but it is surprising that it is the last thing to be installed.

Overall, the Chicoine Center is a nice building. The offices, lockers room, training room, and arena look great. It has definitely helped with the expansion and growth of CSC’s campus. All they need to do is install the Wi-Fi and students can fully enjoy events while taking selfies, checking social media, and enjoying knowing they don’t have to use their own cellular data.

Take control, hack your education Angie Webb Advertising Director As college students, we’ve all been there: in the classroom, a plainly designed PowerPoint presentation flickering on the wall, a lecturer droning on and on about a subject you have no interest in from a boring textbook. Most of you reading this probably recalled an exact moment in time where this happened to you, in college or otherwise.

These types of classroom experiences do not lead to information retention and rarely do they help us in the future. That is, unless that type of classroom experience is how you learn best.

I’ve heard several friends in all of my time as a student complain about how hard their classes are and how their teacher doesn’t meet their learning needs. They lament how they have failed and struggled in these classes. They bemoan the fact that these teachers don’t change their curriculums and strategies because they can’t figure out the subject matter.

However, none of these friends have tried anything other than suffering through lectures and textbooks hoping that, one day, the subject matter will click.

Recently, I watched a TedX Talk by 13-year-old Logan LaPlante, discussing the benefits of “hacking” your education to better suit your needs by recounting his personal experiences with non-traditional school settings.

When we think of hacking in a modern sense, we think of malicious people breaking their way into databases and personal devices. LaPlante, however, describes hackers as people who innovate as well as chal-

lenge and change the system.

I think that we, as college students, can apply that mentality to our own education in order to better succeed in our own rigorous school setting, instead of expecting the school system to adjust for us. It all starts with knowing how and where you learn best as well as what you want to learn. Even general education subjects can apply to your interests if you try hard enough, which then enables you to retain the information you gain better. There are loads of ways to control your own education and enable your own success.

For example, instead of griping about how certain subjects mean nothing to you when you’re forced to take classes, try to think about the subject at hand and apply it to your interests and your major. Better yet, when scheduling your general classes, try to take ones that you know will hold your interest instead of taking classes that you might fail because you’re not interested enough.

It’s better to take a harder class for a subject you want to learn about rather than an easy class for a subject you care nothing for.

Syerra’s Square Recent tragedy punctuates life’s brevity Syerra Wycoff Bagshaw Columnist Jason Brian Dalton, a man who before today was an undistinguished figure to society, has been charged with the murder of six people and injuring two others over the duration of seven hours in an unwarranted shooting. Dalton was a driver for the company, Uber, and reportedly picked up customers, drove them to their destination, and then shot them in cold blood; and even opened fire on a group in a restaurant parking lot. Between the reported shootings he picked up normal fares and delivered them without incident; this pattern continued over the course of seven hours, during which time six people were killed and two wounded.

According to reports Dalton was “even tempered,” calm even, and had no motive or cause to kill the victims, leaving us to assume that he murdered them just because he could. The prosecutor reported, “These were very deliberate killings. This wasn’t hurried in any way, shape or form…they were intentional, deliberate, and…coldly done.” This causes a lot of concern surrounding Uber and gun control, as Dalton had no mental

health history that would raise alarm and prevent him from employment or gaining access to a weapon.

Uber, before allowing someone to work for them, conducts a background check to ensure the safety of its customers; however, someone like this managed to slip through the cracks and has now inflicted insufferable damage on individuals and their families.

My heart goes out to the families and community that is affected by this travesty, and gives cause to remember that people have the capacity to be horrifying. This incident is another reminder that any day, any moment could be your last, and to ensure that those who are in your life now are loved and appreciated, lest they get into a cab home and never come back.

Don’t be afraid to ask your professors for help if their teaching style within the classroom isn’t quite working for you.

Most professors, especially if you’re willing to talk to them, will do their best to accommodate your style of learning. If you learn better one-on-one, take advantage of your professor’s office hours and go speak to them. Our school also provides several other services that you could use, such as tutoring and the learning center. There are so many ways to obtain knowledge rather than just in the traditional classroom setting. And, if your professor is absolutely not considerate of your learning needs, the administration and deans are willing to hear your case and assist you.

You have to take your own initiative before you can blame other circumstances for failures. You’re not forced to try and survive your classes by making yourself learn one certain way. Your learning starts and ends with one person: you. By “hacking” your education for your own benefits, you will be able to survive college as well as other future opportunities that you may get in life.

Tragic comedy reveals couriers’ side of story Sarah Townsend Lifestyles Editor “What is the last thing you remember?”

During CSC theatre program’s most recent production, “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead,” this question is repeated multiple times throughout the play as the audience is immersed in the confusion that the two main characters face for nearly the entire show.

In an altered version of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” the audience sees the story from the viewpoint of the couriers, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. In this absurd, tragic comedy, authored by Tom Stoppard, the action takes place outside of the Shakespearian story, with short appearances by the main characters of “Hamlet” enacting parts of the original scenes. When the main characters are gone, however, the two become confused and have no knowledge of the action happening “on stage.”

CSC’s Wacey Gallegos, junior of Ainsworth, and Molly Thorton, senior of Riverton, Wyoming, playing Rosen-

crantz and Guildenstern, respectively, have dynamic chemistry and their interactions keep the audience entertained.

Thorton’s monologues are well delivered and Gallegos successfully provides comedic interjections surrounding the somber subject of death.

Thorton’s performance of Guildenstern is wonderful and the interactions between the two are convincing. In a specific instance, the two are playing a question game and the repartee between the two is both intelligent and comedic, giving the audience something to think about the entire time.

Patrick Bergin, junior of Riverton, Wyoming, also gives an impressive performance as The Player. His characterization of the ‘omnipotent’ contributes to the theme and helps the audience break through the confusing banter of the couriers. The interjections Bergin makes concerning the plot during “The Murder of Gonzago,” a story within the story, are appropriate and humorous.

The Player is part of an acting troupe that is comprised of four tragedians, played by Jake Voorhis, sophomore of Miles City, Montana; Nathan Wojciechowski, junior of

Gering; Jacob Wirth, senior of Sidney; and Brandon Bailey, sophomore of Rushville. These four are intended to team up to bring more clarity to the disorder Rosencrantz and Guildenstern create. Some of their actions provide distraction and there is a loss of focus, but they give an excellent show of portraying characters even without the use of dialogue. Their depiction of the hanging using puppeteer movements is impressive, moving, and believable.

The cast makes interesting use of the audience, and there is a well-choreographed sword fight scene that occurs between, Thorton, Gallegos, Bergin and Doug Valade, senior of Scottsbluff, who plays Hamlet.

The lighting mechanics are appropriate for the performance, especially during a scene where the cast finds themselves on a ship, and the score helps drive the plot and gives the scenes an extra push.

While the show lasts around two and a half hours, the time seems to fly by because the cast keeps the audience entranced. Guildenstern says, “Words, words. They’re all we have to go on,” so take my word for it, and go see this CSC production. It will be worth your while.

If you are looking for a play that gives you some fancy wordplay, dirty jokes, and an existential crisis all in one package, “Rozencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead” just might be what you are looking for. Originally written by Tom Stoppard with a debut in 1967, the play is a solidly written story following the exploits of “the Prince of Denmark’s college buddies” as they struggle with being jammed into the Shakespearean classic, Hamlet.

The storyline itself can be a little hard to follow at first. The play is written in such a way that the viewer is to be just as confused as the two main characters (Rozencrantz and Guildenstern).

The style changes depending upon

which supporting character comes out to join our cast. If The Player (a character from the play) arrives we can expect some dirty jokes to come with him.

As the attitude changes between characters coming and going, the lighting and music changes to fit tonal shifts.

The shifts add a certain charm and feeling to the play. Others may prefer more of a subtle approach to transitioning, but I feel it fits well with the style of this particular play.

All transitioning and music was well performed by theatre staff, truly bringing you into the experience.

The characters themselves were comedic, crude, and lovable at times, with tonal shifts fitting the reaction you have. The actors did well to combine the Shakespearean style in “Hamlet” with wordplay from Tom Stoppard’s writing.

Throughout the play the two main characters ask a question that college students can often relate to: “What are we doing here?”

Therein lies the existential crisis situation. They ask themselves through the entire play if they are even alive.

The question adds a bit of a dark twist to what would otherwise be a silly and happy play, dragging you from one emotional extreme to the next. The play doesn’t attempt to focus on a social injustice, but it does make you think about your life before you are brought back to another ridiculous moment.

This play is something of a mindboggling journey, but with a solid performance and excellent crew it works well to bring the experience together.

I highly recommend people giving the play a shot.

Wrestling rankings are based on dual records

Solid pitching and hot bats led the Eagles to win the 4-game series with Regis University, Denver, 3-1. Regis was ranked No. 21 at the time. CSC is now 8-6-1, 3-1 in conference play.

The Eagles dropped the conference opener, 11-3, only managing four hits while the Rangers produced 14. The Eagles fared better during the second game, scoring nine runs of 15 hits, eventually winning, 9-7.

In the next day’s first game, Cierra Cosslett, graduate student of Grand Junction, Colorado, pitched five innings, only giving up two hits and recording four strikeouts. The Eagles scored 10 runs on 10 hits, shutting out the Rangers, 100. In the second game of the day, pitcher Tayler Hall, senior of Windsor, Colorado, recorded her

third win of the season with a nail-biting victory, 9-8.

“Winning the series was such a team effort,” Hall said. “ It was one of the best feelings ever.

There is no better way to open conference.”

In the loss, the Eagles gave up seven runs in the bottom half of the second inning. Regis’ Carlie Sexton, junior of Littleton, Colorado, hit a 3-run home run to help boost the Rangers to a win. Shea Graham, senior of Colorado Springs, Colorado, led the Eagles with a 2-run homer in the fifth inning. Zoe Humphries, junior of Arvada, Colorado, notched the only other run for the Eagles, with a home run of her own.

The second game, Graham hit two more home runs, adding five RBIs, batting .750. Aspen Eubanks, sophomore of Broomfield, Colorado, also recorded three hits in four attempts, adding an RBI, and scored two runs.

Graham also grabbed a stolen base in the win.

CSC will battle against two teams on the road this weekend, Colorado Christian University, Lakewood, and Colorado Mesa University, Grand Junction. First pitch is set for noon Saturday against CCU then at 2 p.m. against CMU. Game time is 9 a.m. Sunday against CMU and 11 a.m. against CCU again.

“They are both talented teams,” Hall said.

“But we are playing very sound softball right now. If we bring our ‘A’ game, we shouldn’t have any issues competing with both teams.”

Men’s team drops 2 more; hopeful for first road win Evan Brooks Reporter The Chadron State men’s basketball team traveled to Grand Junction, Colorado, and Salt Lake City for match-ups against Colorado Mesa University, Friday, and Westminster College, Saturday, suffering losses in both meetings. The Eagles fell to Mesa 88-66, and the Griffins 77-62.

Friday night the Eagles (6-19, 4-17 RMAC) found themselves in a deep hole early, as they started the game giving up a 20-1 run to the Mavericks (19-8, 15-6 RMAC) which they would not be able to recover from.

Although the Eagles held RMAC Player of the Year candidate Ryan Stephan, senior of Lakewood, Colorado, to just over half of his 42-point total in the two teams’ previous match-up, five players for CMU scored in double figures, providing balanced scoring en route to an 88-66 win.

For the Eagles, however, Billy Johnson, junior of Cedar Hill, Texas, led the way with 23 points, matching his season high. Aside from Johnson’s 9 of 17 shooting effort, the poor shooting continued for the Eagles, as they shot a dismal 28.6 percent from behind the arc and 41 percent from the field overall.

Women fall out of playoff contention Jay Feltson Reporter With playoff contention on the line, the Eagles needed to win both games last weekend to keep their hopes for postconference play alive. The Eagles traveled to Colorado and Utah to play RMAC opponents Colorado Mesa University, Grand Junction, and Westminster College, Salt Lake City.

The first game of the trip was against the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa who the Eagles had previously lost to at home by 32 points. The Eagles fell behind early this game and fought hard to try and pull off an upset but ended up losing, 73-62.

The next night against Westminster, the Griffins’ bench proved to be to much for CSC, losing 71-62. The Eagles won the first match-up by 13 points.

Against Mesa, Allegria Chisom, senior of Wichita, Kansas, led the Eagles scoring 13 points to give the Eagles a spark offensively. Maka Daysh, sophomore of Tauranga, New Zealand, followed scoring 12 points and Kayla Mathews, sophomore of Adelaide, Australia, tallied 11. The trio combined for 36 out of the team’s 62 points. The Eagles also recorded nine total assists, three from Erin Graham,

junior of Deland, Florida.

Defensively, the Eagles struggled to limit the Mavericks from scoring, especially in the first half of the game allowing Colorado Mesa to shoot 46.67 percent from the field and 58.82 percent from the 3-point line. Daysh led the Eagles in rebounds with eight, including five defensively, three more than any other Eagle. The Eagles also managed to convert 15 points off turnovers which helped them stay in the game, but in the end they fell to the Mavericks.

In the second game of the weekend, the Eagles faced, the Griffins of Westminster, a team that Chadron beat at home by double-digits. For a while it looked like the Eagles would once again dominate the game but a big scoring fourth quarter from the Griffins secured them a win.

Offensively, the shooting woes that have plagued the Eagles all season continued. This time the Eagles shot 39 percent from the field and 21.1 percent from the 3-point line which eventually hurt them down the stretch when they needed offensive efficiency the most. Daysh led the way, scoring 24 points, shooting more than 50 percent from the field in an effort to provide a spark for the otherwise struggling Eagles. The Eagles also managed to dish out 13 assists.

Daysh led all players with 18 rebounds, earning another double-double on the season. Emma Block, senior of Copenhagen, Denmark, picked up seven rebounds. In the end the Eagles defense couldn’t guarantee them a win.

The Eagles travel to Regis University, Denver, to play the Rangers in the final game of the season Friday. The Rangers are currently third in the Rocky division of the RMAC with a record of 17-10, 15-6 in conference play.

Track athletes gear up for RMAC Championships William McLaughlin Reporter The Chadron State track and field team competed in its final regular season indoor meet this weekend, as they prepare to host the RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships this Friday and Saturday. Only a handful of athletes competed at the Joe Davis Open Indoor Meet at Colorado School of Mines, Golden, but still had a strong weekend.

Leading the charge were All-American long jumpers Damarcus Simpson, sophomore of Lafayette, Georgia, and Stachia Reuwsaat, junior of Rapid City, South Dakota, winning the men’s and women’s long jump, respectively.

For the men, Simpson improved his indoor school record in the long jump to 25 feet, 4 3/4 inches. His previous record was 25-4 1/2. On the women’s side, Reuwsaat won the event with a jump of 20-7 3/4. Reuwsaat leads D-II with a season best jump of 20-8, which she jumped Dec. 10, 2015, also at Colorado School of Mines.

“I felt good this weekend,” Reuwsaat said. “(Colorado) Mines is my favorite place to long jump at. And for the team it was a good confidence builder going into RMAC. At Lincoln, we got beat up a bit so this past weekend helped us for sure.”

Simpson earned the RMAC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week while Reuwsaat was named the Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for the women.

The Eagles placed high in other events, continuing their strong indoor season. On the men’s side, Andre Woodson, junior of Sacramento, California, tied for first in the 60 meter dash with a time 6.84 seconds. Woodson has placed first or second in the event five times this season for the Eagles.

Another winner for the men came in the weight throw.

Blake Jacobs, sophomore of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, won the event with a toss of 55-9 3/4. Three other Eagles placed top five in the weight throw as well. Cory Martens,

Simpson and Reuwsaat earned individual RMAC honors as they were named the Men’s and Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, respectively.

The men also swept four of the top five spots in shot put. Kyle McCarthy, senior of Aurora, competed unattached and was the highest finisher placing second with a throw of 51-3 1/2. David Alridge, sophomore of Omaha; Jacobs, and Martens placed third through fifth, respectively.

For the women, Reuwsaat finished sixth in the 60 in 7.84. The only other winner from CSC was Mel Herl, senior of Eaton, Colorado, who is redshirting this year and competed unattached. Herl was a double winner in both shot put and weight throw. Herl won the shot with a throw of 46-4 1/2 and the weight throw with a toss of 65-3/4.

The Eagles will host the RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend. On Friday, the women’s pentathlon starts at 8:30 a.m., the men’s heptathlon will start at 9 a.m. Field events will start at 1 p.m. and running events will at start at 3 p.m. On Saturday, field events will start at 8:30 a.m., running events at 11 a.m.

‘Boy Meets World’ still teaches 20 years later Jordyn Hulinsky Managing Editor I have a confession to make. I am a 21-yearold junior in college who enjoys watching TV shows that were intended for young adults and/or teenagers. One of my favorite shows of all time is “Boy Meets World.”

Two years ago at Christmas, I was given all seven seasons of the show on DVD, and a couple weeks ago, I finally found the time to finish the first season.

I have been watching episodes from this series for as long as I can remember and I’ve seen every episode at some time in my life, but I’ve never watched them all in order.

“Boy Meets World” is a television drama that premiered on Sept. 24, 1993. It looks into the life of Cory Matthews.

In season one of the show, Matthews is in the sixth grade and we are introduced to his best friend Shawn Hunter, his classmates Topanga and Minkus, his family—mom, Amy;

Now years after the show “Boy Meets World” has come to a close, a spinoff, “Girl Meets World” has come onto the television spectrum.

This show, which premiered June 27, 2014, follows the life of Riley Matthews, the daughter of Cory and Topanga. With the same creators as “Boy Meets World,” the show discusses the same issues as “Boy Meets World,” but the issues are more relevant to the times.

“Girl Meets World” can never compete with the original “Boy Meets World,” and I can admit it’s a little silly that I watch this Disney Channel show as a 21-year-old, but it makes my heart happy.

So if you ever need some inspiration, look up an episode of “Boy Meets World” or “Girl Meets World.” The lessons they discuss still affect even those of us who have “turned old” now.

Louis Creed is still a fairly young man with a young family, moving from Chicago, to Ludlow, Maine, for a job offer at a local college as head of University Medical Services. He has a pretty little wife, Rachel, and a daughter about 5 years old, Ellie, who starts school in the fall after they move into their new house.

Gage is the baby of the family, going on 2 years old. The family pet is the daughter’s tom cat, Winston Churchill (more commonly known as Church). The place they move into is a pleasant house with lots of room and a lovely old couple that lives across the highway, the Crandalls. Jud and Norma Crandall instantly take in the young family and become friendly faces in this new place. They constantly worry and warn the new people about the highway: “you best watch y’er cat and y’er young un’s ‘round that road there. Them big Orinco trucks come blastin’ by ‘round that corner goin’ mighty fast.”

A few strange things happen—no surprises there, this is a horror book after all—but all is peaceful for the most part. That is, until the cat gets hit by one of those Orinco trucks.

And from there, all hell breaks loose and Louis learns that his happy little home isn’t what

it was all cracked up to be.

One thing leads to another, and before I knew it, King was throwing in concepts that I, as a writer, would not have had the courage to breach. Not only does this story talk about things that are completely surface value, but it discusses deeper concepts such as mortality and, in some cases, the supernatural.

King’s work is obviously fiction, but it rings with an undeniable truth. While the story line might be a bit overused in the horror genre, the way King goes about telling it and the insight he provides about the mind of his characters, are what makes this story such a page turner.

Readers might love the characters, but not the choices they make. Readers also know how characters start out, which helps explain why they do what they do. Moving through the story, readers continue to hope the characters will pull through safely on the other side.

King has such a masterful way of weaving just the right amount of hope and reality together, that his stories seem much more real than they are. Not everyone loves horror stories, but there is no doubt this book is well worth the scare.

Star-filled show dazzles students Sarah Townsend Lifestyles Editor CSC Geoscience student Caelum Hubl, freshman of Lincoln, dazzled a small crowd at 2 p.m.

Friday, during a scheduled showing of the winter constellations at CSC’s planetarium in the Math and Science building.

Hubl kept the crowd interested by speaking about certain constellations that can be seen during the winter months as a main focus, and then touched on some of the other season’s more prominent constellations.

Hubl began his presentation with the story of Orion and Taurus, two constellations that can be seen easily this time of year. He spoke a bit about The Seven Sisters constellation and moved on to show the crowd the Milky Way Galaxy, which looked like a light gray belt stretching across the night sky.

During his presentation, Hubl also taught students and community members in attendance how to find The North Star, The Big Dipper, and The The Milky Way Galaxy is shown during the Planetarium Show on Friday in the Math and Science building.

Hubl’s knowledge of each constellation helped auHOURS OF OPERATION FOR dience members learn more about the story and placement of each one he showed.

“You can create a story for basically any star you want,” Hubl said. “You can create a constelMID TERM BREAK 2016 lation in any way you want.”

Hubl said that many people choose to create their own constellations, or pictures in the sky Student Center Dining Room just because they think a certain star grouping looks a specific way.
