Advising center moved to library commons Nalani Stewart News Editor “The Advising Center has been moved to the Library Learning Commons,” Konnery Klueber said. “It doesn’t really change anything that they are doing, it’s just a change in location.”

Senate has a current budget of $21,846.40 in unallocated funds.

“This number will be changing within the next weeks,” Vice President of Finance Lukas Klueber said. “After the add and drop period ends, and the refund period ends, we will have a number for you guys.”

In another matter, Edna Hall Senator Perkins was impeached on account of an attendance violation.

The court is looking for a new Solicitor General, as well as a new Justice.

If anyone is interested, they should contact Chief Justice Samantha Merrill or Senate President Karly Herald.

Paperwork for the position of Solicitor General should be turned in by Jan. 22.

CAB is hosting a pool party, alongside Project Strive, to start “I Hate Winter Week,” from 6-9 p.m. on Friday.

CAB is also hosting a free bowling night on Sunday at the Hilltop Lanes bowling alley.

The CAB meeting on Feb. 20 will be converted to a budget workshop to help students understand the process of budget hearings. Budget hearings will be held March 19-22, and appeals will be held on March 26 and 27.

“This is important, so spread the news about it,” Klueber said. “It’s a normal CAB meeting, so if other club members want to come, they can. We want as many people to come as possible.”

In another matter, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is on Jan. 15. Several events are being hosted co-sponsored by

the Social Science Club, the CSC Diversity Committee and Residence Life Association including, “Backlash to Brown v. Board: Senator John Stennis and the Destruction of Public Schools,” featuring David Nesheim, “Reflections on ‘Letter from Birmingham Jail’,” featuring CSC faculty members Mary Clai Jones and Dr. Elisabeth Ellington.

There will also be a screening of a documentary, “Sixty years after the Little Rock Nine faced violent resistance when desegregating Central High in Arkansas, America’s schools continue to represent the key battleground of the Civil Rights Movement,” “Indigenous Education and Civil Rights: Mexico, South Africa, and the United States,” featuring CSC faculty members Dr. Robert Knight, Dr. Thomas Smith, and Dr. David Christensen, and Henderson’s lecture, “Brown v. Board of Education: Voices of the Legacy.”

The Hilltop Lanes bowling alley is now open. It costs $3.50 a game, and $1 for shoes.

AFB Budget Hearings scheduled for March Katelyn Lambert Reporter The first meeting of the Campus Activities Board for this semester briefed representatives on the semester ahead.

The Activities Fee Board (AFB) Budget Hearings will be held March 19-22, with appeals on March 26 and 27.

There will be an AFB workshop in conjunction with the CAB meeting on Feb. 20, and Vice Chair of Finance Tierra Snyder asked all representatives to invite club presidents, treasurers and advisers to the workshop to work on budget packets.

CAB has a current budget of $17,000, which they used $11,000 of last semester. Snyder requested a budget of $20,000 for this semester.

“It’s a little bit more than last semester, but we added four events,” Snyder said.

The budget increase request was approved with a 41-1 vote.

Adviser Deena Kennell notified representatives to share with

clubs the new location of the Advising Center, the Library Learning Commons.

“There is a schedule for what faculty members are volunteering to be in there at what times,” Kennell said.

Jan. 28, Feb. 18, March 18 and April 15 are the dates for the four Free Movie Nights this semester. The movies shown will be announced at a later date.

CAB currently has $172,791.58 in unspent funds across all clubs.

Sigma Tau Delta representative Stephanie Gardener was unanimously voted the new Vice Chair of Relations after a self nomination.

Time’s Up needs more inclusion More than 300 women in Hollywood have launched a campaign combating sexual harassment in the film industry. The movement was launched on their website timesupnow.com on January 1, 2018. In the letter of solidarity, they address readers as, “Dear Sisters,” uniting women around the nation, encouraging them to join the fight.

Additionally, they plan to target blue-collar workplaces, where women are less likely to speak out in fear of losing their jobs.

Hollywood has even pledged a $13 million fund to help the blue-collar workers to fight against their perpetrators.

They state, “We also want all victims and survivors to be able to access justice and support for the wrongdoing they have endured. We particularly want to lift up the voic-

es, power, and strength of women working in low-wage industries where the lack of financial stability makes them vulnerable to high rates of gender-based violence and exploitation.”

While $13 million is good, it doesn’t seem like much compared to money that these women in the movement, women such as Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey and Natalie Portman, have at their fingertips. Witherspoon alone, in 2007, insisted on $15-20 million per film she was in.

By addressing the readers as “Sisters,” it excludes men who experience sexual harassment.

While the movement is thought to aid, “all victims,” they contradict their own movement.

We’d also like to see this expanded to help college students, too.

we asked:

Sexual harassment lawsuits can become very expensive, especially ones that require a lawyer to be hired. According to a study done at the University of Michigan in 2006, 62% of female college students report having been sexually harassed, with 80% of the reported harassment being peer-to-peer.

Along those same lines, 51% of male college students admit to sexually harassing someone in college, with 22% admitting to harassing someone often or occasionally.

While we believe that the intent of this movement is good, we’d like to see it executed better.

At the moment, the campaign seems to be merely a hashtag and a fancy press release with some money behind their claims. The movement has promise, but it has a ways to go.

Stick to your New Year’s Resolution

Columnist As every New Year begins, people post all over social media about their New Year’s resolution.

I saw people saying they were going to give up soda to people saying they wanted to spend less time on their phone to wanting to become a regular in the gym.

Every single year I see people make this attempt to make huge differences in their own lives. Many of them don’t stick to it.

I wondered why so many people didn’t achieve this goal they set for themselves. I came to the conclusion that maybe it’s not about the goal that is set but the expectation that comes along with it.

Many people do really well the first week or so then when they can’t seem to reach their goal right away they say, “Well, there is always next year.”

That’s a waste of 11 months!

You can achieve your goal if you go about it in a way that is a bit more manageable.

I believe that if you set yourself a weekly goal to achieve the bigger

goal in the long run you will reach that goal.

For example, if you want to stop drinking soda, the first week maybe you should not drink it one day. Just start with one day and as each week progresses set yourself a new goal. Instead of going cold turkey, it makes your goal more obtainable.

The same can be said about going to the gym. Carve out two to three times a week that you can go in and walk around the track or lift weights. Maybe try a Group Fit class!

Also, try to find someone who also has the same goal as you and hold each other accountable. Set aside an hour in your schedule to go for a walk.

Pay more attention to detail Lydia Privett Opinion Editor Nothing is ever perfect, no matter how hard we try. However, the mistakes you make throughout your career can very soon catch up to you and define you. Something as small as a few typos or an incomplete sentence in an email you send to a professor can leave a lasting impression on them and their view of you.

If you make small mistakes, people will not see the value that you provide or the talent you have. It can give you the impression of laziness.

There are a few ways you can slowly learn to pay more attention to detail in your life. Learning these skills early can benefit you in the career field, nearly regardless of your path.

One way is to start doing projects in small chunks, and not tackling the whole thing at once. By starting projects early, it also gives you time to iterate and improve your work in all parts of a project.

When you are being rushed or have too much to look at at once, your judgment and attention skills can become compromised.

Another way is to have people to proofread things. As an English major, I’ve found immense value in

this. Getting another point of view can draw your attention to small things you may have overlooked.

Finally, try stopping when you’re tired and pick it back up when you’re rested and have more focus. As a college student, I get it, we don’t always have that luxury. However, something as simple as walking away for five minutes, taking a quick nap, or going for a fifteen-minute jog can make all the difference in the world and get your “creative juices” flowing or a fresh perspective.

While perfection can be a longshot, it’s never a bad thing to strive for. Put your best foot forward, and everything will fall into place.

If you have a setback use the footholds you had and start climbing again.

It will be easier to recover from a shortfall between weekly goals than falling from trying to achieve it with one big jump.

I am not saying this is a foolproof plan. You do have to encourage yourself and remind yourself why you set that goal.

But I believe if you choose a weekly goal it will be more beneficial in the long run.

I hope this advice helps you achieve your New Year’s Resolution!

Men's Basketball TEAM:

Men’s Basketball pushes through with only seven players The Chadron State College men’s basketball team played on the road for six straight games over the academic break, before returning home last weekend for two more. Over the eight games, the team went 0-8.

First traveling to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Mountain Lions and Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners on the weekend before finals week, the Eagles lost two closely contested games.

After a three-pointer with 2:02 left in the game by Vonsinh Sayaloune, sophomore of Chadron, to give the Eagles a two-point lead against the Mountain Lions, UCCS was able to tie the game before taking the lead for good for a six-point win. Sayaloune was the high point man for the Eagles with 12 points while shooting 4-6 from behind the arc.

Against the Roadrunners, the Eagles were able to trim their second half deficit to five with 12 minutes left after Dru Kuxhausen, freshman of Scottsbluff, sank a layup. The Roadrunners answered with a 13-3 run to take a 15-point lead on the way to their 79-67 victory. Kuxhausen was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 28 points while converting 11 of his 13 shots.

Next, traveling to Rapid City, South Da-

kota to face the Hardrockers of South Dakota School of Mines, the Eagles were down by five at halftime before the Hardrockers caught fire.

Eventually leading by 20 points, the Hardrockers won 66-52. Jordan Mills, sophomore of Alliance, was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 10 points.

Facing the Yellowjackets of Black Hills State, Spearfish, South Dakota, the Eagles had multiple chances to take the lead but multiple Yellowjacket runs were too much for the Eagles to overcome. Leading by 17 with 12 minutes left, the Eagles were able to lower the deficit to 8 multiple times, but the Yellowjackets prevailed with a 76-63 victory. Jeremy Ruffin, junior of Chicago, led the team 13 points on 7-9 shooting from the free throw line.

While facing the 21st ranked team in the nation, the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College, Durango, Colorado, the Eagles only had seven players suited up due to sickness and travel delays. The team trailed by 10 at halftime before the Skyhawks found their stroke on their way to a 28-point second half lead and a 88-65 victory. Jaisean Jackson, junior of Denver, led the team in scoring with 17 points. Matt Reader, senior of Appleton, Wisconsin had his first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Eagles lost a heartbreaker to the Adams State Grizzlies, Alamosa, Colorado. Leading by eight with 2:30 to play, the Grizzlies clawed back to lower the Eagles lead to one with one minute left. After a turnover and a missed shot, Jarrett Givens, junior of Tempe, Arizona, hit the game winning shot for the Grizzlies with eight seconds left to give them the 75-74 victory. Jackson once again led the team in scoring with 22 points.

While bringing in the new year with their first home games in over a month, the team was unable to stop two RMAC offenses. After leading the first five minutes, the Mavericks from Colorado Mesa, Grand Junction, Colorado, scored eight straight points on their way to a 14-point halftime lead last Friday night.

The Eagles were unable to overcome the deficit on the way to a 90-71 loss. Kuxhausen led the team in scoring with 27 points on the night.

On Saturday, facing the Western State Mountaineers from Gunnison, Colorado, the Eagles fell victim to a 15-3 start by the Mountaineers on their way to victory. Despite shooting 51 percent from the field, the Eagles fell 9672 to end their Christmas break. Kuxhausen led the team with 20 points.

The Eagles travel to Salt Lake City to face the Griffins of Westminster College on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Women’s basketball hopeful after rough winter break Ashley Jackson Reporter The Chadron State women’s basketball is now 3-13 after losing the last nine games.

The Eagles are 1-9 in RMAC conference play and 3-4 at home in Chadron.

Kalli Feddersen, senior of Rawlins, Wyoming, leads the team with a .269 shooting percentage. Feddersen has made 55 of her 186 attempted shots so far this season. Feddersen is fifth in the conference in shooting. As a team, the Eagles are 340-933, giving them a shooting percentage of .364.

Feddersen is leading the Eagles in rebounds, with 132 offensive and defensive rebounds, placing her fourth in the conference. Jessica Harvey, freshman of Morrill, has 69 total rebounds for the season. The Eagles have 610 total rebounds.

Harvey is second in conference in free-throw percentage, with a .943. Harvey has made 33 of 35 free throws.

The Eagles are third in conference in free-throw percentage, with a .766 as a team. The Eagles are also third in the conference in defensive rebounds, with an average of 28.8 per game.

The Eagles are 0-8 on the road and 3-4 at home.

Head Coach Janet Raymer said.

Raymer said that home games were the best for the team so far this season.

Chemistry is one of the strengths of the team this season, Raymer said. Each player is very supportive of each other and they want to see everyone succeed.

Turnovers have been a weak spot for the team the season and they are hoping to improve in that area in their remaining games.

The Eagles are away this weekend as they take on Westminster College-Utah, Salt Lake City, on Saturday. The next home game for the Eagles is Jan. 19, when they take on Adams State University, Alamosa, Colorado.

Thumm titled RMAC Wrestler of the Week McKenna Jones Reporter While most students were enjoying their time off during the three-week winter break, the CSC wrestling team was still hard at work.

The team wrestled at Doane College, Midland University and Hastings College in the past month, with wrestler Brock Thumm, 141-pound junior of Watervliet, Michigan named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week.

Thumm won the 141-pound bracket at the Doane College Open with two pins and three decisions in Crete, on Saturday, Dec. 9. He is the first wrestler from CSC to be named Wrestler of the Week this year.

The Eagles had four other wrestlers place at the Doane Open. Jake Otuafi, 157-pound redshirt sophomore of Sparks, Nevada, finished in third at the Doane Open

in the 157-pound category. Otuafi finished 4-1, losing to the champion of the bracket, University of Nebraska Lincoln‘s Zemua Baptista, redshirt freshman of Friend.

Herber Shepherd, 174-pound redshirt junior of Spanish Fork, Utah, placed fifth at Doane in the 174-pound category. Shepherd finished the tournament 4-2.

Evan Smith, 133-pound junior of Louisville, Colorado, who is no longer on the team, and Johnny Porter, redshirt junior of Bellevue, both finished in sixth for the Eagles.

Brock Thumm finished in first place at Midland University in the Viking-Warrior Open in Fremont on Dec. 30. He defeated two wrestlers by decision, both from the University of Nebraska-Kearney. He beat Johnathan Killingsworth, 141-pound redshirt freshman of Lincoln, (6-4), and Tevin Briscoe, 149-pound sophomore of Garden City, Kansas, (8-4). He also defeated Joe Ritzen, 133-pound freshman of Chadron, by pin, who was wrestling unattached.

Three other wrestlers placed at Midland. Brandon Kile, 125-pound junior of Hastings wrestled at 133, and placed fourth in the category.

Chance Karst, 133-pound sophomore of Powell, Wyoming finished in fifth in the 133-pound category. He lost to teammate Brandon Kile in the semifinals, and to Bryce Shoemaker, University of Nebraska-Kearney 133-pound senior from Baldwin City, Kansas. Devin Stork, 184-pound freshman of Canton, South Dakota also placed at the Viking-Warrior open.

In the new year, the team traveled to Hastings College for the Hastings Cusatis Open on Jan. 6. Caleb Haskell, 149-pound sophomore of Madison, and Alex Mai, 285-pound redshirt junior of Bennett, Colorado, were the two wrestlers that competed for points for the Eagles, with other members wrestling unattached. Both finished 1-2 in their weight classes.

The Eagles next meet is against the Colorado School of Mines on Jan. 11, at 6 p.m. in the Chicoine Center.

“The Last Jedi” needs more time for storyline Brianna Wilson Reporter I grew up watching Star Wars. My father used to always say that my education wasn’t complete until I had seen it – specifically episodes 4, 5 and 6. So, naturally, when they started to make new Star Wars movies, I was, to put it mildly, very excited.

When “The Force Awakens” came out in 2015, I was practically vibrating in the line to get our tickets at the theater – just as my dad and brother. I knew that it wasn’t going to be the same as those I grew up watching, how could it without George Lucas and the original scriptwriters? Still, I was determined to give Disney the benefit of the doubt. I am, after all, a huge Disney nerd.

And while there were definitely parts of “The Force Awakens” that rang true with traditional Star Wars movies, there was still a noticeable difference between the Star Wars that I knew and loved and this fresh chapter.

Still, I was just as excited when “Rogue One” came out and while it, too, was a bit different from what I knew of Star Wars, it held many more similarities to the series that I was so caught up in. It may seem ambiguous to say, but it just felt more like Star Wars than “The Force Awakens” had.

So here we are now, the end of another year, which means another Star Wars movie. It’s always exciting to sit in the theater and hear the theme song blast through the speakers while the beginning credits start to roll. That is probably hands down one of my favorite pastimes, in general. So, A+ to Disney for including that this time, since it wasn’t in “Rogue One” and I was a bit disappointed as a result.

The first thing that comes to mind when I think about “The Last Jedi” is that a lot happens.

Honestly, it’s almost like there’s a little bit too much, like no matter how well you pay attention, it’s so action packed and just filled to the brim with one thing after the next that it’s hard to process in only one sit through. You almost have to watch it again to be able to actually register everything going down throughout, not to mention all the subliminal things that are going on between all the characters.

The next thing that comes to mind is how an-

gry Kilo Ren is.

That’s no surprise, though. He was angry in “The Force Awakens,” too. But it didn’t hit me during that movie the way it hit me in this one.

I kind of imagine the guy being so angry all the time that he never sees any color except red. He may as well have a red fog that permeates his vision constantly, because that’s sort of how he acts.

Additionally, I found myself mildly disappointed with Mark Hamill’s role in the whole thing. While parts of it resounded with the Luke Skywalker that I grew up knowing, this version of him was harder to connect with than that younger man, fresh on his path to becoming a Jedi when he left Tatooine with Obiwan. It makes sense that he would be different – so much has changed, after all – but it was still a bit disappointing that he was so unrecognizable as a character.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad movie and I wouldn’t mind seeing it again. But my first viewing left me reeling with everything that happened and it’s always hard to give an accurate description of a movie when you’re left with that kind of feeling afterward.

I understand that Disney has big shoes to fill by taking over the Star Wars franchise and they are allowed their creative license.

However, they should be careful about trying to cram too much into a two-and-a-half-hour time span. There’s a

fine line between enough action to keep things interesting and too much action to the point where you don’t get any break and it’s all ‘go, go, go!’ the entire time.

Overall, I would give “The Last Jedi” a three or three-and-a-half star review out of five stars, largely because it left me with so many questions and a sense that the movie was missing something. It’s always dangerous, Disney, when you try to shove too much into a movie. You have time. I think this movie would have gone over a bit better if they had taken some of that time to spread this storyline out a little more and develop these relationships and new characters more fully.
