WE ERRED: LAST WEEK’S PAGE 1 ‘AUDIT’ HEADLINE WAS FALSE In the March 15 edition of The Eagle, our front page headline stated, “NSCS audited for errors in 2016-2017 financial statements.” That headline was false and misleading. The NSCS and the three institutions it governs - Chadron, Wayne and Peru state colleges - like all state institutions and agencies, are audited yearly by the Nebraska Auditor of Public Accounts. The 2017 audit revealed some proce-
dural deficiencies at the NSCS office and the three colleges. But the APA gave the NSCS the most common auditor’s finding, an “unqualified opinion,” which means that the system office fairly and appropriately presented its financial records and statements. Of the three colleges, CSC recorded the fewest deficiencies. CSC President Randy Rhine said Chadron has been and will continue working toward improvements.
