More treats than tricks

SEMPER VERITAS

CDC youngsters trick-ortreat across campus Melanie Nelson News Editor The kids at the CSC Childhood Development Center paraded around campus in their Halloween costumes while trickor-treating Monday morning. Lona Downs, the CDC director, said the kids had multiple stops in nearly every building on campus. Downs had sent out a prior email to all faculty and staff inviting them to participate in giving out candy. She said the CDC trick-or-treating tradition started before she took over three years ago, and remains a hit with the children. “The kids get really excited as Halloween nears,” Assistant Teacher Miranda Loveless said. “They’ve all been talking about their costumes for weeks!” Ruby Mullis, 3, who went as Lilo from “Lilo and Stitch,” said

trick-or-treating on campus was her favorite part of Halloween. “I was a witch, to scare people!” Kendall Sellman, 5, said. Dressed as a ninja, William Clymer, 4, was most excited to get “the pink candy,” as that is his favorite flavor. Having her grandpa and grandma over to pass out candy and play Halloween games, particularly “toss the paper cat,” was Marcella Koehn, 4, favorite part of the holiday. She dressed up as Gekko from the Disney Junior series “PJ Masks” because “it’s a pretty cool show.” Ignacio Jaeger, 3, was pumped to be his favorite superhero, Spider-Man, and was happy to find a lot of suckers in his bag. Loveless said holidays bring a fun change of pace for the kids, and next up the teachers will be planning some Thanksgiving activities.
