CSC cheer team robbed in Pueblo, Colorado Torri Brumbaugh Lifestyles Editor The CSC cheer team was robbed in Pueblo, Colorado, Saturday, Oct. 14 on their way back from a football game.

After cheering in Las Vegas, New Mexico, the cheer team drove to Pueblo, where they would be staying for the night. The team then went to the local Cracker Barrel restaurant for dinner, said CSC Cheer Team Coach Ann Hanson.

Hanson said that after dinner, they returned to their travel vans to find almost all of the team’s bags were stolen.

“I thought somebody played a joke on us in the other van, so I called them and I’m like, ‘All our bags are missing,’ and the other vans said half of their vans were taken too,” said cheerleader Gabriela Perez, 22, senior of Sioux City, Iowa.

The team waited around three hours for the police to show up, said Perez, and they were able to find two males in a two door sedan breaking into the vans on the Cracker

Barrel’s security tape.

“I was freaked out because I had no clothing. I had nothing to my name besides my debit card and my license,” Perez said. The same was true for numerous other girls on the team.

Hanson pointed out that it was a “snatch and grab job.” Perez said the tapes revealed the thieves leaving the vans after a Cracker Barrel employee went to take out the trash. The team had taken two vans on the trip. As they were grabbing for bags, the thieves missed the bags on the back half of the second van.

“It was stressful because for some girls this was their first experience with anything violating against their person….Some of the girls who didn’t even have stuff stolen were afraid because they have never gone through something this big,” Perez said.

Thankfully, one of the team members had a smartwatch wrapped up in their sweatpants in their bag. After the Pueblo Police Department, who were unable to present a police report at the time of press, could not help the team, they followed the GPS signal from the smartwatch to find their bags.

The cheer team recovered their bags in a dumpster behind a Super 8 Motel in Fountain, Colorado, about 30 miles north of Pueblo.

Laptops, debit cards, keys, cash and various other items were never recovered. Perez said the thieves left behind odd things, like her $500 speaker, a pair of Beats headphones and Hanson’s suitcase. Clothing was returned, but most of it was next to dirty diapers and rotten tomatoes and was stained. All Apple products were gone.

“I think it was very unfortunate,” Hanson said. “We did everything that we could to have safety involved. We parked in a well lit, secure lot with a camera. We called the police and they came and took statements from everyone that had lost something.”

To Perez’s knowledge, the Pueblo PD had not made any progress on the case. Hanson claims the team is working with individuals in the college to work out solutions for the stolen items.

After the incident, Hanson advised keeping valuables close and in sight while traveling.

Hanson said, “It’s very unfortunate and can happen anywhere and to anyone.”

Director of Admissions Lisa Stein submitted Perez’s name for the Summit after being contacted by Rachel Henry, the Director of Marketing for the Nebraska State College System. After Henry contacted Perez, about the opportunity, she said yes.

resume builder to go out and participate in something like this,” Perez said.

Perez traveled to Kearney Sunday night, after a weekend away with the CSC Cheer Team. Monday, Perez attended the Summit and drove back to Chadron.

While at the Summit, Perez was one of three student representatives chosen from the state colleges.

The other two attending the conference were from Wayne State College. A fourth from Peru State College was supposed to attend, but could not make it due to car troubles.

Perez and the other representatives were a part of a student panel where they shared experiences about being a Hispanic student, roommate horror stories and being a first generation college student. Perez also shared about her small campus and developing close

relationships with her professors and CSC President Randy Rhine.

“It’s very positive and heart-warming, I guess, to see students and families similar to myself, that are going to be beginning their college experience and maybe even opening the doors for their siblings like I did,” Perez said.

As a CSC Admissions Ambassador, co-captain of the CSC Cheer Team, Homecoming Queen, Eagle Leader, member of Project Strive, leader of the Nearly Naked Mile, and even more, Perez has secured her role as a leader on campus. She said that she is excited to bring back her experiences and Hispanic culture to CSC. She also hopes to open the doors to others who are Hispanic and in the area.

Perlinski named Nebraska section SRM President Star-Herald Ag Editor From droughts and wildfires, to weed management and market volatility — rangeland management will present numerous challenges for the next generation of range professionals.

“In Nebraska, we’re a private land state. We hinge a lot on the markets and what’s profitable,” Tony Perlinski, Chadron State College assistant professor of applied sciences, said. “If there’s no market in our range resources, then diversification becomes an issue.”

In the livestock business, producers often become slaves to the weather, Perlinski said. With prolonged and sustained droughts on the horizon, sizable shifts in management have to be made to keep operations profitable.

“If you can’t make money off of [the rangeland], then we’re going to have some problems as far as keeping rangelands in longterm family operations,” Perlinski said. “Healthy rangelands are profitable rangelands, and maintaining those as healthy systems is important.”

Perlinski aims to prepare the next generation of professionals to tackle these challenges head on. He joined the CSC faculty in 2013, teaching courses in rangeland ecology, range management, forage management, range plant identification and habitat inventory and analysis. He also serves as the adviser to the CSC Ag Club.

Former wrestlers plead not guilty Preston Goehring Managing Editor All four former CSC student-wrestlers pled not guilty, Friday, to charges connected with a hazing incident in September.

Luke Zeiger, 24, of Glasgow, Montana; Chance Helmick, 21, of Hickman; Cooper Cogdill, 22, and brother William “Willy” Cogdill, 21, both of Chadron, all pled not guilty to one count of hazing, a class-II misdemeanor; and one count of third-degree assault, a class-I misdemeanor.

The four were arrested on Friday Oct. 13, with bonds posted at 10 percent of $10,000.

Dawes County District Court Judge Randin Roland set the pre-trial hearing for December.

Possible dates for the hearing are Dec. 8, 12, or 15. The exact date has not been decided due to Judge Roland’s trial schedule.

Dawes County Attorney Vance Haug re-

moved himself from prosecutor duties citing a conflict of interest, and instead assigned Sheridan County Attorney Jamian Simmons as the prosecutor.

Zeiger is being represented by attorney Amanda Vogl of the Douglas, Kelly, Ostdiek, Ossian, Vogl, and Snyder law firm. Helmick’s attorney is Dustin Garrison, of the Garrison Law Firm, Beatrice, while the Cogdills are represented by Jon Worthman, of the Worthman Law Office, Alliance.

Prior to the arrests, the four individuals were being investigated for their roles in a hazing ritual for new members of the CSC wrestling team.

CSC and the Chadron Police Department conducted separate investigations of the incident.

The college’s investigation led to the four being removed from the wrestling team, and expelled from school. Helmick and both Cogdills were initially expelled as of Oct. 5. Zeiger was expelled a week later, on Oct. 12.

Brooks Hall closing doors for Spring 2018 Nalani Stewart News Editor Brooks Hall is shutting its doors in December.

The hall will be closing to reduce the cost of operation.

Brooks is only at one third of it’s capacity.

Vice President of Finance Dale Grant explained in a press release that the college will save about $35,000 next semester in closing Brooks. This is not the first time that the residence hall has been closed.

Students living in Brooks have the choice to move to the other five resident’s halls on campus- Edna Work Hall, Kent Hall, High-Rise, Eagle Ridge, and Andrews Hall. Students, except for freshmen, also have the choice to move off campus.

Resident Hall Directors and the housing office have been working closely with students and employees living at Brooks to relocate them before the end of the semester. As of now, the future of Brooks hall is unclear.

The Big Event proposes budget to Senate Nalani Stewart News Editor Representatives for The Big Event presented the budget for the sixth annual The Big Event, Monday at the Senate meeting. The cost was broken down into $750.00 for Advertising, $1,291.05 for White-Out, $250.00 for Printing Costs, $7,237.50 for Day of Costs, and $650.00 in Miscellaneous costs. The overall total comes to $10,178.55. The decision to approve th budget will take place at the next Senate meeting.

Senate has a current balance of $35,411.35 in unallocated funds. The AFB committee is filling its positions which include three senate members, three senators at large, and three members from CAB. With eight of the nine positions filled, AFB is looking for a senator to fill the last position.

“We are working on getting things up and running,” said Lukas Klueber, Vice Chair of Finance, “So, if you guys know any clubs that want to talk about money, tell them that AFB is up and running.”

Student Senate allocated $650.85 toward to the purchase of new polos for senators. Senate also allocated $80.00 toward the purchase of name tags.

“The name tags ended up being a little bit more expensive than I thought,” said President Carly Slaught. “The size that was wider was cheaper than the ones that we ended up getting, so we will need to allocate a little bit more money for that.”

The NSCS Student Leadership Conference with Wayne State College, will take place today and tomorrow. Leadership, Diversity, and Relationship speaker Joshua Fredenburg will present, and give advice on the topic of leadership resilience.

There will be breakout sessions on Friday which CAB representatives are free to attend, but the conference itself is limited to student senators only.

Also at the meeting, three new senators, Shaniya DeNaieyer, 21, senior of Valentine, and Annie Hart, 21, senior of Loup City, and Chaona Radtke, 20, junior of Sidney were sworn in.

The Spring Daze Committee is contacting bands for Spring Daze, which should take place April 11-15.

“Our rough layout for this year is starting April 11,” said Vice President Johnathan Sayloune. “The plan is to set up a pep rally kind of event on that Wednesday, and then doing Mr. and Mrs. Spring Daze Thursday, having the club portion and activities on Friday. On Saturday, we will do the JDFR walk in the morning, and then we’ll have the main concert that eve-

ning. On Sunday, we will wrap it up with a Free Movie Night, like last year.”

Brain Health Advocate and Storyteller, Kevin Hines will speak on Nov 14, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall. Hines, a Golden Gate Bridge (jumper) Survivor will tell his story in hopes to promote suicide awareness, and intrigue others to “love the life we have been given.”

The Freaky Food Pantry, a program to provide students who could not go home for midterm break with food had a turnout of 20 students.

“I’m happy to see that many students showed up,” said CAB chair Trista Schell, “It really shows there is a need for it, which I didn’t realize.”

The next two free movies nights are as follows: Nov .12, and Dec. 10. Students should continue to watch CAB’s Facebook, and Twitter pages for the release of the movie titles.

Cheating and plagiarizing have become a rising issue on campus.

“I am awfully concerned about the number of students I am seeing in my office for cheating, and plagiarizing,” said Adviser Pat Beu. “The thing that I want most of you to know, and want you to take back to your organizations is that mark on your record is difficult to expunge, and not worth it.”

Cheers to online exam proctoring We, editors at The Eagle, applaud Chadron State College for taking action against unproctored online testing. According to David Kendrick, associate vice president of teaching and learning technologies, next semester, spring of 2018, CSC will be administering a trial of a remote proctoring service called Examity on a few choice classes.

This service will not only benefit administrators and professors, but students as well. Examity has five different levels of proctoring, all of which will be tested in the following semester.

According to the Examity website, these levels range from a simple tracking and recording of audio, motion, and systematic changes of the test taker, to an Examity employee monitoring the student live. On a certain level, the proctor has access to the student’s desktop and can see the student’s surroundings.

Cheating and academic dishonesty are educational issues worldwide. In

fact, many countries look down upon online degrees and courses.

By making cheating no longer an option and eliminating the temptation, students will benefit immensely in several ways.

Firstly, it would help students attain the most they can from the courses they are paying for. This proctoring eliminates the temptation for students to cheat on online exams, forcing students to study for exams if they wish to succeed. This will result in students getting the most out of the courses and help in preparation for careers.

Secondly, it can save students from wrongful accusations of academic dishonesty on exams and quizzes. Professors will no longer have to play the “guessing game” when determining if they suspect cheating on any given exam. It not only saves students, but it will also help professors.

Thirdly, it gives more accreditation to online classes and degrees. As David

Kendrick said in an interview on Monday, Oct. 23, “We want to show that a degree from Chadron State College really means something.”

Online degrees are not held to as high of a value as a traditional degree due to the social norm of cheating and academic dishonesty that stereotypically goes hand-in-hand with online classes and degrees.

If more schools can begin to administer online proctoring programs, it can reform and redefine online education all over the world.

While this decision may come as a slight inconvenience to some students initially, we believe it will ultimately be a good adjustment for students due to more knowledge they will have acquired upon graduating CSC. It’s good we are finally taking the step towards accomplishing this in our own school, and setting examples for other schools in need of a similar program.

My worries for Disney and a fanfiction writer Caleb Wiederhold Cartoonist So, here’s the thing, I’m diagnosed with autism and I tend to worry too much. But, also, I like so many things.

One of the things I like is Disney and would like to work for Disney Animation in doing story and character ideas, whether through writing or expressing it in person.

For their movies, my favorite would be “Zootopia” and I’m one of those people that ship the main character Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps as a couple and I have been having ideas and making it a fanfiction or just thoughts about it.

There’s also other Disney movies I like, which are “Moana”, “Aladdin”, and of course “Frozen”.

But, I also have worries for Disney. There have been slip-ups and things popping up that now I’m worried for them. This is going to sound crazy, but I wish there was something I could do.

Also, I had an idea or a fanfiction idea for a “Frozen” sequel by giving Elsa a fire-wielding male love interest.

That was until I discovered a fanfiction on the internet, written by ksckwake1, who basically already had that idea.

I was going to continue my own work, but decided not to, because I didn’t want to copy it.

The one concern I have right now is ksckwake1 thinking Disney is taking a few of his ideas from one of his fanfictions and making “Olaf ’s Frozen Adventure” out of it. He did state he wasn’t sure if it was true, but also stating if it was true, he was thinking what other ideas they are exploiting.

Here’s the thing, I’ve made up or thought of my own “Thomas & Friends” characters in writing and/or thought, until Hit Entertainment wrote them down and I didn’t even submit a fanfiction. Do I go sue Hit Entertainment, Mattel, or anyone that made the “Thomas and Friends” stories? No. Just because they have the same idea, doesn’t mean they took it.

I am worried for the writer too. I would like him to be a part of the “Frozen 2” or me working with him and for Disney in that, but here are some other questions. Does ksckwake1 want to be part of it? Would Disney take of-

fense to him thinking they took his ideas? Who am I damaging if I do show them that? Disney or ksckwake1? Plus, they’re already getting started for “Frozen 2” and what do I do now?

I wish there was something that I could do, but I don’t have any control on any situation. I just wish there could be peace between Disney and ksckwake1. I don’t know everything about kscwake1, but I want him to be at peace.

It would be nice meeting him face-to-face along with the “Frozen” crew and cast, but it’s probably just my autistic imagination. I could say the same thing for the cast and crew involving “Zootopia”, even though a few people in “Frozen” are involved in that.

I also want peace with Disney. After some of things they’ve been through, from the internet’s perspective, I just wish them peace.

So many times, my fear gets the better of me. I’m not sure how Disney or ksckwake1 would respond if they saw this, but I admit that I’m worried for Disney and ksckwake1. There are some dreams that I wish could be realities, but that’s probably my imagination.

Show off and get spooky for Halloween Mckenna Jones Reporter It’s October. The leaves are changing, the nights are getting shorter, and the weather is getting colder. October is a month full of fall festivities, football, and best of all, Halloween.

Halloween is a time to eat as much candy as you want and dress up as someone you’re not without being judged by anyone. You can spend an entire month preparing and decorating for the holiday.

Movies like “Hocus Pocus” and “Halloweentown” come on TV. You can carve pumpkins and drink apple cider.

But as college students, we don’t get to go trick-or-treating like we did as kids.

There is still a chance to bring out the inner kid in you during Halloween by dressing up. You might be thinking you’re too old for this or you’re too poor for this, or maybe even that you’re too cool for this. The Halloween dance is this week at CSC, and here are a few reasons why you should get dressed up and get spooky.

First of all, it’s fun. You can be anyone you want or (if you can afford it). From your favorite athlete, to Eleven from “Stranger Things,” a Disney princess or even Dwight from “The Office.” It is also exciting to get to plan out your costume like you did as a little kid. There are plenty of places in Chadron and online to look for a costume or an idea.

One of the best places to find costumes is Pinterest. There are thousands

of pins with creative and easy costumes.

A lot of them are DIY, which are easy and affordable to make at home.

Another reason to dress up this Halloween is to be able to show off your creativity. People love to see the funny or clever costumes that people come up with.

The Halloween dance The Pit holds is one of the most popular events of the year because everyone loves to see the costumes their friends come up with.

Get on Pinterest and find a costume you can make easily.

Look at the second-hand stores in town for more supplies, and check out Walmart before the Halloween supplies are gone.

This year, the Halloween dance is the week before Halloween so you could use your costume again on Halloween

if you so choose!

The final reason to dress up for Halloween this year is to get outside of your comfort zone. A lot of people might think they look weird or stupid if they dress up on Halloween, but isn’t that what it’s all about?

After a month of candy and decorations and scary movies, Halloween is almost here! Don’t worry about looking dumb or being weird. One of the best things about October is getting to see creative costumes and people that put effort in. So, get online and find an idea.

Grab some friends and do a group costume or a couple’s costume.

The Halloween dance is tonight in the Student Center Ballroom at 9 p.m.

Show up and show off your costumes and get spooky at the dance!

Cross Country Championship Men finish 10th, women 9th at conference championships

That’s how Head Cross Country Coach Brian Medigovich said he felt after the Eagle’s performance in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships Saturday, in Chadron.

Last weekend’s meet marked the first time CSC hosted the 2017 RMAC Cross Country Championships.

The women started the morning off with a 6-kilometer run and the men followed in an 8-kilometer. The Eagles struggled. The women came in ninth and the men 10th of 15 teams.

“We didn’t do as well as I expected,” Medigovich said. “We have a lot of room for improvement.”

Nicky Banzhaf, senior of Chadron, led the CSC women finishing 27th in 23 minutes, 10.5 seconds.

Also scoring points for the CSC women were Alyse Henry, sophomore of Rock Springs, Wyoming, who finished 39th in 23:42.5; Julia Eskelson, freshman of Meeker, Colorado, who finished 53rd in 24:09.5; Taylor Allison, senior of Gordon, who finished 55th in 24:15.8; and Dominique Oden, sophomore of Anaheim, California, who finished 64th in 24:39. The women’s final score was 238.

In cross country, the team with the lowest overall scor wins. Teams accrue points based on the places the first five members of each team finish the race. For example, if a team’ runners finish in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th their score would be 15.

Leading the men’s team, senior Phillip Duncan of Chadron finished 42nd in 27:01.3 -2 minutes and 2.3 seconds behind the race leader, Colorado School of Mines’ Grant Colligan redshirt junior of Holt, Michigan. That gap led to the Chad ron State men scoring 288 points overall.

The Adams State women took their sixth-straight RMAC title scoring 22 points. The ladies secured the top four posi tions in the race with winner, Eilish Flanagan, sophomore o Gortin, Ireland, crossing the finish line in 21:44.2. Her twin sister, Roisin Flanagan, came in three seconds behind her.

In the men’s race, Colorado Mines beat Adams State 80-24 a 54-point difference. Grant Colligan took first place in th men’s race with a time of 24:59.9. Out of 121 runners, the firs five of the Orediggers’ nine runners made it across the finish line in the top 10 positions. The last four runners finished in the top 25.

The championship course that wound through the foothill of CSC’s campus, along with heavy wind and cloud cover, pro vided unfavorable conditions for both the runners and specta tors. However, Medigovich said he was happy with the setup of the course, which incorporated a series of rolling hills.

The Eagle’s next chance to compete is at the NCAA South Central Championships in Canyon, Texas, Saturday, Nov. 4.

A stifling Eagle defense leveled the RMAC top ranked offense, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Rapid City, South Dakota, Saturday at Elliott Field. The Eagles won the Battle for the Eagle-Rock Trophy, 29-17.

The Hardrocker offense that previously averaged nearly 500 yards per game could only manage 312, less than 200 through the air. Hardrocker quarterback Jake Sullivan, junior of Rapid City, South Dakota, and freshman wide receiver Brandon LaBrie, of Westlake Village, California, were one of the better offensive combinations in the conference going into the game. LaBrie was held to 31 yards on four receptions.

CSC’s defense is ranked No. 3 in yards per game allowed, averaging 376.

The constant defensive pressure led to four sacks and three interceptions. Sullivan’s completions percentage was less than 50 percent.

Brian Wood, redshirt senior, of Stockton, California, led the Eagles with 15 tackles, two of which were behind the line of scrimmage and one interception late in the fourth quarter to seal the win for CSC. Keenan Johnson, redshirt sophomore of Chadron, added nine tackles and one of the three interceptions that set up an Eagle touchdown late in the first half.

Offensively, the Eagles kept pace with the defense, despite facing a strong headwind for the second and third quarters.

Jackson finished with 132 yards and one touchdown, leading the CSC runningbacks.

The Orediggers are led by the conferences top runningback Cameron Mayberry, redshirt sophomore of Stillwater, Oklahoma, averaging 123 yards per game on the ground, racking up 12 touchdowns on the season.

Volleyball team moves to 8-13, 5-7 in RMAC Ashley Jackson & John Murphy Reporters Three points separated the CSC volleyball team from a two-win weekend at home. The Eagles narrowly lost to New Mexico Highland University, Las Vegas, in five sets on Friday, with a 15 to 12 score in favor of the Cowgirls in the final set.

The Eagles beat the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves Saturday, in four sets.

The Cowgirls came out on top in a close match with both teams having over 50 kills. Gaby Varela, senior from Dorado, Puerto Rico, tallied 22 kills, leading the Eagles. NMHU’s Tiffany Matchet, junior from Lancaster, California, led her team with 14 kills.

The Eagles lost the first set 25-22, with an attack percentage of .250 to the Cowgirls .353. The second set went to the Eagles, who won 25-23 and had their second-best attack percentage of the night, .312. The Eagles dominated in the third set, winning 25-15. The Eagles had 12 kills with 1 error and an attack percentage of .500, their best of the night.

The fourth set proved difficult for the Eagles, with the Cowgirls winning 25-17. The Eagles had their worst attack

percentage of the night and of the weekend, with a negative .086. 14 errors, the most of the night for either team, proved to be too much to overcome for the Eagles.

The Cowgirls’ win in the fourth set sent the match to a fifth and final set. Both teams fought hard in the fifth set, but in the end the eight errors for the Eagles helped the Cowgirls win 15-12 and take the match.

“The feeling of losing and recognizing that and knowing we didn’t want to be comfortable with that,” Mckenna Hartigan, freshman from Hotchkiss, Colorado, said about the game Friday and how it helped get the win Saturday. In possibly their best performance of the season, the Eagles recovered from their Friday night loss with a four set win over CSU-Pueblo.

“We had a couple of us play the best games we’ve played all season, and set some school records,” Emily Bruce, senior of Centerton, Arkansas said.

While hitting for their best single match attack percentage as a team all season, the Eagles recovered from a first set loss, to beat the ThunderWolves 25-27, 25-14, 25-23, and 25-15.

After being outhit and having eight attack errors compared to the ThunderWolves two in the first set, the Eagles answered with their best volleyball in recent memory.

Bruce finished with 31 digs for an average of 7.75 per set.

Her 31 digs is the most digs an Eagle has had since rally scoring began in 2008.

Hartigan accounted for 11 kills with an outstanding .733 attack percentage. Her .733 attack percentage is the second best in the RMAC this season and would be third in CSC record books if the minimum criteria of 12 kills was met.

Madison Webb, junior of Loveland, Colorado, had her second highest assist total of the season with 55. Her high of 65 came in five sets against Westminster in September.

Varela added 17 kills, along with 11 digs, for her second double-double in a row. Along with Varela and Hartigan, Aijahnae Springs, junior of Converse, Texas, and Timmi Keisel, redshirt sophomore of Fleming, Colorado, each had double digit kills with 12 and 10, respectively.

“We played really well this past weekend which is exciting going into this upcoming weekend,” Bruce said. “We have a really good opportunity to beat some good teams.”

The Eagles are home again this weekend, as the host to Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Friday night, and the Colorado Christian University Cougars of Lakewood, Saturday night.

“Colorado Christian and Mines will be pretty tough teams, but I think we’ll respond to that” Hartigan said.

The career fair offered various opportunities to CSC students Wednesday, Oct. 25. More than 25 employers came to the event held in the Student Center Ballroom on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Some of the employers present included; Regional Health from Rapid City, South Dakota, Farmers State Bank from Chadron, and the Ponderosa Nursing Home out of Crawford.

Numerous students attended the event to interact with local employers. “I really enjoyed seeing all of the opportunities at the

career fair, as well as finding new ways to go about careers,” Octavia Engesser, 18, freshman from Rapid City, South Dakota said.

Students interacted with the employers and asked questions. Dante Wiggins, 18, a freshman from Colorado Springs, Colorado, explained that, “The day was interesting, I’m finding out that more options exist for me later in life.” An abundance of opportunities were offered to Chadron State students at the career fair.

Employers shared their thoughts on the career fair as well. Some shared what they would like to see in the future at the annual career fair.

“We would like to see more students

dress professionally for the career fair,” Angela Harris, from Farmers State Bank in Chadron said. She also explained that the bank is currently looking for undergraduate students to employ.

“The Farmers State Bank will work with students’ school schedules,” Angela said.

Kris Mader, an employee of the Ponderosa Nursing Home in Crawford, explained; “We hope to introduce students to the aspects of nursing care, we also hope some students will come by our booth to fill out an application.”

Employers wanted students to get the full experience out of the career fair and explore their options.

Disney’s big three animated films of 2016 Caleb Wiederhold Cartoonist So, in 2016, there have been a share of good movies.

One of the companies making those movies is Disney.

For that year, Disney made three good animated movies, which are “Finding Dory,” “Moana” and “Zootopia,” For “Finding Dory,” it’s Pixar’s sequel to “Finding Nemo” and focusing on Dory, while Nemo and Marlin being the supporting characters. It’s about Dory finding her long-lost parents and end up meeting new friends, which are Hank the Octopus, Bailey the beluga whale, and Destiny the whale shark. Now, this is one of the best Pixar sequels since “Toy Story 3” and frankly, I like the new characters Destiny and Bailey. While Mar-

lin and Nemo had their share of moments, Dory had the spotlight for her emotional moments, making new friends, and her short-term memory loss.

Now, we come to “Moana,” starring Auli’I Cravalho as the title character hence the name Moana and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the demigod Maui.

This is about Moana going on a journey to restore the heart of Te Fiti. What makes this movie unique is the Polynesian culture and I found the music catchy. Also, I found Tamatoa, a giant coconut crab that likes shiny stuff, to be another great addition to be a Disney villain and found “Shiny” to be a nice tune, sung by a villain.

Lastly, is “Zootopia” and this is my favorite Disney movie. This takes place where anthropomorphic mammals, where a first rabbit officer Judy Hopps,

voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin, tries to search for a missing otter, while getting help from a fox con artist Nick Wilde, voice by Jason Bateman. Here, the theme the movie tackles is stereotypes and prejudice towards species and gives a clear message about being exceptional for one another. Personally, I ship Nick and Judy as a couple and would like to see a sequel focusing on their relationship.

Now, Disney did have a lot of good animated movies. There are good ones in the past and they also have their share in good live-action ones as well. However, there are good animated movies from other companies, such as “Despicable Me,” “Secret Life of Pets,” “The Peanuts Movie” and other movies. But, who knows what’s around the corner for animated movies?

We’ll just wait and see.

Don’t sing it, bring it Yen Nguyen Reporter

The “Karaoke and Coffee” event attracted fifty-four people showed up at Edna Work Hall lobby Friday night from 9 p.m. to midnight.

The Resident Life Association (RLA) event gave students a chance to relax and win some prizes, including Starbucks quality coffee, vacuum insulated cups, and a Keurig coffee maker. The resident assistants drew a name for small prizes once in a while, around every 30 minutes.

All they had to do was sing and wait for the resident assistants to call their names if they were lucky. The special prize, a Keurig coffee maker, was for those who sang and stayed until midnight.

During the night, people signed up

for the song they want. Some went solo, some sang in groups. The diversity of songs, from sad to cheerful, encouraged more people to show their music preference.

According to Alisha Heelan, senior of Lewellen, the purpose of RLA events is to have fun and create a community within Chadron State College. “And have opportunities for people come, meet people, and be silly, just relax,” she said.

People showed up to enjoy quality time with friends. Makenzy Petty, sophomore of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, chose “Honey, I’m Good” by Andy Grammer to heat up the night. “I didn’t think it was going to have this much fun but it’s actually a lot better,” she said, “I won a red Husker coffee mug.”

The RLA events take place every week, and fliers are available in every building on the CSC campus.

Kent Hall is kicking off Halloween with an RLA event hosted by Alyssa Torrez, junior of Thornton, Colorado. The Halloween extravaganza was held in The Landing Tuesday evening.

The extravaganza consisted of pumpkin decorating, prize winning, candy apple making, the viewing of the door and hall decorations. Each hall was given a budget of $10 to decorate their halls. According to RD of Kent Hall Kale Lytle a lot of the students helped out with the buying of the decora-

tions for each hall.

Candy prizes were given to the winners of the door and hall decorations winners. Elizabeth Barbour, freshmen of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Kailee Rafert, freshman of Plainview, won the cutest door. Shawn Renfro, freshman of Orlando, Florida, and Jacob Durflinger, freshman of Alexandria, won scariest door.

Skylar Smyres, freshman of Crawford, and Madelyn Morahan, freshman of Arvada, Colorado, won most creative door. Hannah Korte, freshman of Alliance, won funniest door and the south hall won the best hall decorations.

“It was a lot more than expected,” says Torrez when talking about attendance. “Mostly geared towards Kent residents, 30 people were expected.” 78 people total attended.

RLA Host Zombie Hunt Steven Allen Reporter RLA kicked off the Halloween festivities on Monday with a zombie hunt where RAs attacked students.

Armstrong was transformed into a graveyard of the living dead. Sam Merrill, junior from Oral, South Dakota, High Rise RA, came up with the idea for this event. Merrill stated that her family likes to use nerf guns every chance they get, so she thought, “Why not incorporate it with Halloween and do a zombie hunt? Nerf gun wars are fun, so why not shoot zombies?”

The object of the zombie hunt was to get past all of the zombies and reach the end where food and beverages were waiting for the survivors. The RAs, who dressed up as zombies, were able to create their own design for their costumes.

Merrill simply provided the makeup.

When it came to looking for a place, Armstrong was the perfect spot. Merrill said that she felt like not a lot of people use it other than the athletes.

She thought it has that “creepy vibe” to it, especially being one of the oldest buildings on campus. Merrill thought it would be a perfect area to get kids out of their zone and be a little spooky.

Merrill was hoping for around 30 people to show up because it was a Monday. She felt if it was a weekend, they would have had a better turnout, but she was still able to enjoy the idea come to life.

Brittney Hill, freshman of Sheridan, Wyoming, enjoyed herself and was happy to something to do over Halloween. One recommendation Hill had was to incorporate more of a maze as well as more zombies.
