Eagle wrestlers improve season record after 3-dual weekend
Janelle Kesterson Opinion Editor
The Chadron State wrestlers had quite the weekend, wrestling three duals in four days. They wrestled against New Mexico Highlands University, Las Vegas, on Thursday night; Northern State University, Aberdeen, South Dakota, on Saturday afternoon; and Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell, South Dakota, on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles won all three duals, advancing their season record to 14-1 with a 10-win streak. The Eagles won the dual against New Mexico Highlands 22-16, scraping by with a pin from Cooper Cogdill, redshirt freshman of Chadron, 285-pounds, who turned the 16-16 tie in the Eagles’ favor. “We have two more tough duals coming up,” Cogdill said. “We’re struggling with injuries and fatigue entering the end of our season and we just really need to focus and take it one match at a time to go 16-1 to end the dual season. Then we have some time to get focused on regionals.” The Highland Cowboys and the Eagles both won 5 matches, but Chance Helmick, sophomore of Beatrice, 165-pounds, bested his opponent with a pin to boost the outcome for the Eagles.
