Following student senate’s approval for $500 dollars towards a food pantry project last

spring, a pop-up pantry is coming to the CSC library Feb. 23 and 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. CSC Librarians Christine Fullerton and Geoffrey Ledbetter spearheaded the initiative for this temporary food pantry.

“We’re thinking of it as a pilot food pantry pop-up to collect some information,” Fullerton said, “to see how many students stop by to get food.”

CSC partnered with Shepherd’s Pantry at Immanuel Lutheran Church for the pop-up, which donated 20 prepackaged bags of food for the cause. Money allocated by student sen-

ate was used to purchase 25 bags. Fullerton assured that the food bags will contain a healthy variety of fruits, vegetables, and protein.

The pop-up pantry will be in the entry of the library at the base of the stairs, a location decided on because of its balance between visibility and discretion. To get a bag, students must provide their NUID number to prove enrollment. At the request of Shepherd’s Pantry, the number of people in the household the food bag is going to feed will also be recorded.

Dine With Us presentation on Sri Lanka Tuesday On Feb. 25, Swairie Fernando and sister Swaranga Fernando will speak on their home country of Sri Lanka at noon in the Student Center Ballroom.

This presentation is a part of the Dine With Us International Luncheon programs that are happening throughout the semester. It is free and open to the public. Guests can purchase a meal in the cafeteria.

In addition to the programs, the annual International Club’s Food Tasting Party will be held on Feb. 29 in the Student Center Ballroom at 5 p.m. The menu will include dishes from various countries and that evening there will be a fashion show, music, and photo booth where attendees can pose with the members of the International Club.

Indoor camping to be held in library Friday The campus library will be continuing its “Fun Friday” monthly event series this Friday, Feb. 21, by hosing “Camp Library” from 7-9pm. The event will feature games, crafts and snacks on the main and second floors of the library. When students enter on the main floor they will be able to eat some popcorn and s’mores, make a craft or participate in a game of werewolf. The second floor will

play host a game of sardines.

The event is headed by librarian Christine Fullerton. Both RLA and Project Strive are also involved in putting on the event. The main goal of the night is to get students into the library in a fun after-hours event. Monthly library events will continue throughout the semester in March and April.

Senate approves Spring Days’ budget u By Aubrie Lawrence News Editor In December of 2019, senate set aside $10,000 the event planning committee could use to fund this year’s Spring Days’ events planned for the first week of April.

Monday, the committee presented a rough budget to senators.

The event planning committee estimated that everything planned to happen this year would cost $7,600 at most, since some aspects are still under discussion.

The concert is estimated to cost $2,000, movie rights are estimated to cost up to $800 depending on the choice of movie, the Powerhouse DJ hired for the nearly naked mile would cost $1,800, prizes for the nearly naked mile would cost roughly $1,000, and t-shirts would cost around $2,000 depending on how many were ordered and the design.

Money to rent the roller rink located in town was also budgeted into the total cost, but whether or not it will be available is still unknown.

“I just remember that we did

set aside around $10,000 for them so they’re sitting really well so far,” Vice President Konery Klueber said.

AFB recommended a total allocation of $7,800 towards Spring Days, adding an extra $200 to help pay for supplies needed to help with the nearly naked mile. Senators approved this allocation.

In correlation with Spring Days, the topic of what to do with the clothes donated at the nearly naked mile was also brought up.

Senators decided that the best idea would be to provide the local clothing donation centers with

the articles of clothing that are in constant demand and donate the excess to Goodwill.

“We had a ridiculous amount of articles of clothing donated,” President Lukas Klueber said. “It’s just too much for them to separate. Goodwill has the capabilities to go through that in a matter of hours.”

In other business: > The Art Guild requested $2,559 to fund a five-day trip to Denver, Colorado, and Boulder, Colorado, in April. AFB recommended $1,140 because it was able to find a hotel that was an

Senate approved this recommendation. > Senate approved a $724 request to purchase 21 stoles for students graduating in May that have served at least two semesters in one of the two student government bodies. > The general assembly will be held on March 2 at 4:45 p.m. in the Student Center. This will replace the usual senate and CAB meetings. > Senate has $4,989.06 in total unallocated funds and $6,102,01 in unallocated trip funds.

CAB remains silent on Miner allocation u By Aubrie Lawrence News Editor CAB representatives remained silent on the idea to allocate $500 to help students pay for tickets to the upcoming Carl Miner concert happening on March 21.

CAB Chair Sadie Shepard proposed that CAB pay for 50 tickets to the concert. The students

who showed up first would get in for free while everyone following would have to pay the $10 admissions fee.

“I did have a few people that talked to me outside of the meeting that told me their opinion but I just kinda wanted to hear the final thought of CAB as an organization,” Shepard said.

Omaha Symphony to perform on campus u By Mackenzie Dahlberg Reporter Following the comedic act of Sam Adams, the Galaxy Series continues with Omaha Symphony, an orchestra conducted by Ian Passmore.

The series is designed to stretch the experiences and imaginations of the institution’s students, employees and other residents of the region through a program including a range of speakers, performers, and other opportunities.

Under the leadership of Henry Cox, the Omaha Symphony was founded in 1921. The orchestra has performed for audiences for almost 100 years. For the first few years of operation, they had about 20 members. The numbers have grown immensely since then. Current-

ly, they have about 70 members, both full-time musicians and contracted players.

With their mission statement being “to enrich people’s lives through the exhilarating experience of live orchestral music,” they have over 100 annual performances and they are the flagship, or best, source of orchestral music in the state.

The performance will be located in the Memorial Hall auditorium on Friday, Feb. 28, starting at 7:30 p.m.

CSC students, faculty and staff may experience this performance for free.

Community members may reserve tickets, which are $15 for adults and $13 dollars for youth and senior citizens.

CSC collaborates on new dietetics and nutrition program u By Corey Griffin Reporter The Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees approved a new Dietetics and Nutrition degree program, which will be offered jointly by Wayne State and Chadron State Colleges.

The programs will be offered at both schools with a hybrid style of teaching.

All required courses being offered in both face-to-face and online.

The colleges are working toward getting students the Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR), which allows students to enter the workforce or to pursue higher education. There are no other programs in the state of Nebraska that leads to NDTR credentials.

The program encourages those going into the new degree program to stay in

rural areas where services are needed.

The Nutrition and Dietetics career field, along with much of the medical field, is expected to see a higher than average growth with a projected increase in employment of 14.6% in the next six years.

Both CSC and WSC plan to seek accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics’ (ACEND) based upon their Bachelor’s Degree Programs.

Once accreditation occurs, the colleges plan to begin the programs for their Fall 2020 semester.

“The collaborative nature of this joint program between Chadron and Wayne State colleges, and the response of potential employers from across Nebraska show the value of this degree program,” Paul Turman, chancellor for the Nebraska State College System, said.

‘No comment’ now, but CSC should offer answers later

L

ast week, The Eagle reported on a federal judge’s ruling against a motion for summary judgment in a lawsuit filed against the Nebraska State College System in connection with a 2016 allegation of rape on the CSC campus.

While researching the 2016 rape allegation, and another in 2019 that accused the same male student, we reached out to several members of CSC’s administration, and also law enforcement in the area, with several questions pertaining to the cases.

We recognize that because of legal issues, administration and law enforcement chose not to comment, but it was disappointing to have so many of our questions regarding this serious issue left unanswered.

Those unanswered questions have left us confused about multiple details of the 2016 case, and judging by the conversations we’ve had with our readership, we’re not the only ones who would like answers.

What we know is fact is that the male

student who was accused was not arrested or charged with a crime in either the 2016 or the 2019 case. It is also fact that following the 2016 accusation, CSC’s own Title IX investigation determined that on two occasions the male student raped the unnamed female student.

Why is CSC’s own investigation at odds with the law enforcement investigation?

How did CSC find the male student guilty of rape at the same time no legal charges were filed against him and no arrest was ever made?

Furthermore, how, when court documents state that Anne DeMersseman, then Title IX coordinator for the college, submitted “a declaration that in her opinion, (the male student) was emotionally immature and had ‘an insufficient understanding of consent,” did DeMersseman come to the conclusion that “she did not believe (the male student) posed a danger to the CSC community,”?

Tuesday, The Eagle reached out to DeMersseman hoping to discuss the process surrounding that determination, but she declined to make any comments related to Title IX, consent, or anything related to those topics.

Again, we recognize that our requests for comments or answers are unlikely to be granted because this is an ongoing case, but we sincerely hope CSC administration recognizes that not addressing questions related to this case has caused confusion among the public.

Once the legal battle is done, we at The Eagle expect to have better answers to these questions than “no comment.”

Failure to answer questions from The Eagle and from the public once this case is over will risk eroding trust in the college’s Title IX process, which also risks damage to enrollment numbers. If this happens, the college will have no one to blame but themselves.

As They See It Stepping Up with Abigail

Don’t give up on your education u By Abigail Swanson Columnist

Dear student, I don’t know about you, but semesters away from graduation I’m beginning to question whether majoring in business was such a good idea.

Now you may not have the exact same internal struggle that I do, but I’m willing to stake something valuable on the assumption that since starting your degree program, not everything has been as thrilling as you expected it to be.

Personally, I am neck deep in an eight-week statistics class and my math brain has been off since I finished accounting two years ago. In a different class, I

just understood how I should have started approaching the eight-week long final project and I am now playing catchup to try to finish on time.

I don’t want to scare anyone, but midterms (finals if you have eight-week classes like me) are just weeks away and I do not relish the thought of spending hours relearning random terms Abigail Swanson for tests.

So, even if I have to struggle through a few hours of less than pleasurable work every week, there is so much more beyond that work that makes college enjoyable.

More important than seeing a proper context of college, is looking ahead to see how the education you are getting today

will help you achieve your life goals.

While that may sound cliché, without a hope of a future better than our lives right now, none of us would have considered the time and money costs of education worth ever arriving at Chadron.

We do not attend college to have fun, even though some parts may be, it is to benefit our future selves that we put in the time and money to walk away with the skills we need to shape our lives in the direction we want to take them.

Don’t give up midway through, persevere to the end by remembering why we started college in the first place.

Life’s a struggle, avoid burning out u By Rachel Mitchell Columnist

I don’t know about you all, but it seems that everyone I have talked to in the last week has been struggling. Not just a little but to the point where when I ask, “How’s it going?” sometimes people don’t respond and it’s just a head shake.

There’s a term I’ve been recently introduced to and I think it might fit many people right now or you might have experienced it. The term is being emotionally burnt out.

Emotionally burnt out means to be emotionally worn out from stress. When stress

builds up so much and begins to get to you, you become emotionally burnt out.

I think there are quite a few people who might realize they’re at that point.

Some of the top symptoms are lack of interest/motivation, depression, headaches, physical fatigue, feeling hopeless, and trouble sleeping. I’m not a doctor by any means, but knowing Rachel Mitchell the symptoms is a good way to you personally and help you set a plan to treat that is tailored start.

Another way is to exercise and practice mindfulness. Getting your body moving while doing so is very beneficial.

One other thing you can do is take a break. Midterm break is around the corner. A whole week to take time to yourself and you don’t have to worry about classes. PSA: I’m an un-

dergrad student. Again, not a doctor. This is just my opinion formed from lots of research to attempt to understand people and my desire to help others.

Wildlife leader will leave behind a legacy at CSC u By Zachary Carlson Ag & Range Editor

Chadron State senior Travis Millikan was born and raised in Norfolk, and exposed to the great outdoors at a young age. Over the past four years, he’s expressed his enthusiasm for nature through his involvement with CSC’s rangeland program.

Millikan, whose degree focus is in wildlife and ecology, has been a member of CSC’s Wildlife Club since he was a freshman. For the last two years he’s served as the club president, but the time is quickly approaching for him to leave the group in the hands of another.

“I think I’ll definitely miss it,” Millikan said. “Just hanging out with everybody and getting to do the cool things that we’ve been doing every year. But I can’t do it forever. I can’t stay in college forever.”

The Wildlife Club received its charter from the Wildlife Society in October of 2004 and helps connect CSC students to the outdoors and opportunities away from the class-

room. When Millikan arrived in Chadron, there were only five members of the club – now membership sits at 25. He considers growing the club’s membership as one of his best memories of being president; the other being getting to know his fellow members.

In March, the club will hold an election to find his replacement.

“I feel good,” Millikan said of the upcoming election. “I think we have some kids that are coming up that are passionate about the Wildlife Club and will be perfectly good candidates for taking over.”

Millikan, never one to be confined to the classroom, has taken part in several of the group’s projects during his time at CSC, including Nebraska Game and Park’s annual Big Horn Sheep capture, which took place on Friday.

He and the club have also been a part of other projects like helping Game and Parks install guzzler tanks near Fort Robinson that provide water to wildlife. The guzzlers catch rain water that gets funneled down to a reserve tank underground, and released into the main tank as needed via a float system.

Millikan said being able to get out into the field and get hands-on-experience while also networking with professionals has been beneficial and especially important given how competitive the wildlife field is.

He plans to continue his education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where he’ll pursue a master’s degree with a rangeland management focus. While there, he’ll be working with the Sandhills Rangeland Monitoring Cooperative.

“It will be awesome,” Millikan said. “I helped them start the project last year as an intern.”

Millikan will work with the UNL extension office in Scottsbluff before moving to Lincoln to start fall classes.

“Travis has been an outstanding student and leader, and we look forward to watching his success in graduate school,” Teresa Frink, professor of applied sciences - agriculture & rangeland management at CSC, said.

Growing up in Norfolk, Millikan wasn’t out in the country, or living on a farm. He was a kid from town whose interest in wildlife came from being exposed to hunting,

fishing and the outdoors.

“My dad and grandpa took me out all the time,” he said. “It’s just something that I really fell in love with and had a passion for. Right now, I’m trying to translate that into a career.”

Millikan credits the outdoor education he got from his dad and grandpa with leading him to CSC’s rangeland program. After his time in Lincoln, he said he’ll see where his education takes him next, but that he’ll likely end up with an agency like the Natural Recourses Conservation Service.

“I definitely want to be centralized around Nebraska, just because it’s what I’m most familiar with and what I’m passionate about,” he said. “There’s just something about the sandhills that I’m passionate about. There’s just no place like that anywhere in the country.”

Millikan said in the end he’ll be happy to work anywhere there are rangelands.

Wherever he ends up, Millikan will look back fondly at his time in CSC’s rangeland program. He considers choosing the program to be one of the best decisions he’s made.

“It was just a perfect fit, it seemed like.”

A trio of Bighorn sheep hang from the bottom of a helicopter owned and operated by Native Capture Services, Friday, southwest of Chadron. As part of the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission’s annual Bighorn sheep capture, the helicopters crew tracked, netted and delivered sheep to drop zones where they received a battery of tests to evaluate their health.

They came by ones, twos and threes, dangling from the bottom of a helicopter – an unusual place for a Bighorn sheep to be found.

In all, there were about 17 of them, netted, flown through the air and dropped off where teams of staff from multiple agencies went quickly to work performing tests and health evaluations before the sheep were released back into the wild.

On Friday, seven CSC students and staff from multiple agencies gather east of Chadron before sunrise for the Nebraska Game and Parks Department’s annual Bighorn sheep capture.

The capture gives state and national agencies an opportunity to test the general health of Pine Ridge’s Bighorn sheep herds and also test for the presence of mycoplasma ovipneumoniae (m.ovi), a bacterium that can cause respiratory diseases in domestic and wild sheep.

Rangeland students and professors can talk about grass for hours, but on this large of a scale, could talk until the cows come home.

The annual Society for Range Management meeting, held from Sunday to Thursday this week in Downtown Denver, is an event for students and professors to come together to share range practices in workshops, talk to potential future employers and compete in many events.

The meeting draws schools from across the nation and a couple internationally from Canada and Mexico.

Six students from CSC attended the annual meeting where they participated in the Undergraduate Range Management Exam, attended seminars and networked with industry professionals.

The meeting included several education-focused events and resume reviews and the annual meeting of the Range Science Education council that Associate Professors Aaron Field and Anthony Perlinski attended.

For the CSC students like Myles Mendel, 20, junior of Gothenburg, the annual meeting is also an opportunity to explore career opportunities, including attending a job fair that includes on-the-spot hiring, according to Perlinski.

“If you leave without having some people talk to you about how old you are and what you’re wanting to do after college, I don’t know how you would do that,” Mendel said. “It happens to everybody.”

From attending the meeting, Mendel recieved a job opportunity for after his freshman year to work for Byron Walker Wildlife Area seven miles west of Kingman, Kansas.

All six students took the undergraduate exam while at the conference. The test gives takers the chance to demonstrate their knowledge of rangeland management.

According to Perlinski, some test takers prepare for months or even years, but CSC students tend to test their knowledge “on the fly.”

Some students also competed in the in an extemporaneous speaking contest while at the meeting.

Neither the results of the testing nor the competitions were available at time of press.

At the meeting, Perlinski was honored with the Early Career Undergraduate Teaching Award, which recognizes excellence in teaching and advising range management students by instructors with fewer than 10 years experience.

Tuesday, Chadron State College’s Theatre department performed a dress rehearsal of their latest Black Box Theatre offering, “She Kills Monsters,” a play by Qui Nguyen.

The play, directed by Artist in Residence Jennifer Poarch, will premiere to general audiences on Thursday and will run through Sunday. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.

According to CSC, tickets are required for the shows and can be obtained online.

Chadron State College saw six-of-23 wrestlers place in the top-four at the Rocky Mountain Open with Eli Hinojosa, redshirt freshman of Imperial, placing first, Sunday, in Golden, Colorado.

“It’s been awhile since I’ve last competed in an actual competition so in practice, I’ve been focusing on being a more technical wrestler,” Hinojosa said, “I feel like my mentality has definitely grown so much over the season. It’s such a long season but it is what you make of it and I’m here trying to become the best I can be.”

Finishing in third place with four pins in the first period was 149-pounder Chance Karst, junior of Powell, Wyoming, while both 125-pounder Tate Stoddard, freshman of Glenrock, Wyoming, and 174-pounder Javen Palmer, redshirt freshman of Casper, Wyoming, finished in fourth place.

In preparation for the NCAA Super Region 6 Tournament, Feb.29, in Kearney, 165-pounder Tate Allison, junior of Moor-

croft, Wyoming, wrestled at 157-pounds while 157-pounder Chase Clasen, senior of Moses Lake, Washington, wrestled at 149-pounds at the Rocky Mountain Open.

Clasen and Allison won both of their matches in Sunday’s tournament. Other wrestlers in CSC’s varsity lineup were pulled from the Rocky Mountain Open for injury precaution.

The wrestlers have a week off before they compete in the NCAA Region Super 6 Tournament in hopes to wrestle in the NCAA Div. II Championship, March 13, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

“Leading into this week we are focusing on us and will be incorporating more individual time with each athlete and just focus on fine-tuning our technique and staying fresh,” Head Wrestling Coach Brett Hunter said, “We will be starting our taper period this week as well.”

Out of the 23 wrestlers CSC brought to the Rocky Mountain Open, 19 claimed at least one victory in their matches. According to Hunter, it was the best wrestling performance from the Eagles this season.

Roden sets 200 meter record u By CSC Sports Information Chadron State College’s young track and field team continued to show plenty of promise Saturday at the huge South Dakota State Indoor Classic in Brookings on Saturday.

With at least 26 teams in the competition, the CSC men finished fifth in the team standings and had 11 career-best marks. The women’s team posted six career-bests.

“We had a really solid meet,” Coach Riley Northrup said. “We competed well in a big meet and continued to show that we have a bright future. Once again, our freshmen and sophomores, who make up most of the team, really came through for us.”

The Eagles’ senior leader, Javan Lanier, who had excelled in both the 60-meter dash and the long jump this winter, was 11th in the 60-meter preliminaries in 7.04 seconds, but did not long jump as a precautionary measure to protect a sore knee.

Although other Eagles also had outstanding performances, sophomore Brodie Roden of

Riverton, Wyo., again blazed the trail. He broke the Chadron State record in the 200 meters and posted CSC’s second fastest time ever in the 400 meters.

Roden ran the 200 in 21.59 seconds, eclipsing the 21.76-second mark set by all-time great Joel Duffield at the NCAA II National Indoor Championships in Boston in 2006. The new record is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and near to making the 2020 Division II indoor field.

Roden’s 400 time Saturday, which also comes into NCAA qualifying range, was 48.13 seconds.

Only Duffield ever ran faster for the Eagles. The former record also occurred during the Morrill native’s senior year in 2006, when he initially set the RMAC record of 48.40 seconds and then won the silver medal at nationals in 47.22 seconds two weeks later. Roden’s time Saturday slips in between those two marks as CSC’s all-time bests.

Roden finished fourth in the 200 and third in the 400 in Brookings. Both races were won by entries from Iowa Central Community College.

Courtney Lindsey won the 200 in 21.12 and Lee Eppie was the 400 winner in 47.60.

Eagles set for RMAC play u By Devin Fulton Sports Editor

The Eagles finished non-conference play with a 5-6 record after winning two-of-four games at the Edmond Regional Tournament, in Oklahoma, and prepare for Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play against 6-4 Colorado Mesa, Saturday and Sunday, in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Colorado Mesa owns a .318 batting average through 10 games while CSC’s pitchers give up an average of 6.6 hits-per-game. The Mavericks are led by freshman hitter Camryn Mullen, of Brighton, Colorado, owning a .469 batting average with 15 hits, six runs scored and 11 RBIs. The Eagles own a .292 batting average with 89 hits and 10 home runs through 11 games this season. Sophomore Bailey Marvel, of Lakewood, Colorado, leads CSC with a .405 batting average, 12 runs scored and 15 hits-at-bat while adding 27 assists as a shortstop.

Against No. 7 University of

Central Oklahoma, CSC’s freshman pitcher DeAnna Barrera, of Las Vegas, threw a shut-out with three hits off 109 pitches through seven innings as the Eagles defeated the Bronchos 3-0. CSC scored its first run at the top of the second inning as Allie Mason, junior of Loveland, Colorado, singled to right field, prompting a run from Angelica Maples, senior of Marysville, California. With two runners on-base at the top of the third, Maples singled up the middle, sending Sloane Quijas, freshman of Erie, Colorado, home while sophomore Bailey Marvel, of Lakewood, Colorado, scored off an unearned run.

“When I’m in the circle, my mindset is to always be focused on my job,” Barrera said, “I also know that I have a great defense behind me and that I can always depend on them. I don’t doubt for a second that my team has my back, and I have theirs.”

The Eagles began the weekend’s tournament with a 3-2 win against Oklahoma Christian University. CSC scored two runs at

the top of the third while Oklahoma Christian scored its first run at the bottom of the fourth. Oklahoma Christian added another run at the bottom of the seventh, but a home run single from CSC’s Addison Spears, freshman of Berthoud, Colorado, at the top of the inning gave the Eagles game-winning momentum.

CSC lost 10-6 against Lubbock Christian University, 3-2 against Fort Hayes State University, and 2-1 against Northeastern State during the tournament.

Coming off an injury-redshirt 2019 campaign, Mason’s return to the field brings continuity for the Eagles. In the field, Mason ranks fifth in the conference with 66 putouts and one error while adding 12 hits and three RBIs at-bat.

“I think we can all agree double hip surgery and over 10 months of rehab is never what an athlete wants,” Mason said, “It has taught me a great deal of things but most importantly how to be a good teammate. I’m more motivated than ever to be on that field and not just compete, but win.”

The Hardrockers out-rebounded CSC 41-29 and saw Alec Williams, senior of Albany, Georgia, score 33 points en route to earning RMAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Sparks once again led the Eagles with 15 points while Rodriguez brought in 15 total rebounds.

With three games left for CSC, Reed says he wants to see the Eagles play together, play the right way with the correct mindset, and search for perfection in imperfect situations.

Chadron State College committed a conference-high 32 turnovers in its 72-49 loss against Black Hills State University, Saturday, and scored 14 first half points in its 73-45 loss against South Dakota School of Mines, Friday.

The weekend’s losses drop the Eagles to 3-16 as they face 5-14 CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves, Friday, and 0-19 New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls, Saturday, in the Chicoine Center.

Pueblo allows 69 points-per-game and are coming off a 100-65 loss against Colorado School of Mines, Saturday, marking a conference-high for points allowed in a single game. Offensively, Pueblo ranks 13th in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, averaging 58 points-per-game and are led by JaNaiya Davis, sophomore of Hewitt, Texas, whose 154 field goals are second-best in the conference.

Highlands is searching for its first conference win as the Cowgirls’ -21.8 marginal scoring average ranks last in the RMAC along with allowing 42 rebounds-per-game.

Jordyn Lewis, junior of Ramah, New Mexico, ranks fifth in the RMAC averaging 16 points-per-game and scored 48 points over the weekend.

Against Black Hills, CSC couldn’t overcome its 14 turnovers as the Yellow Jackets led 25-10 after the first quarter. The Eagles outscored its opposition 10-8 in the second quarter but couldn’t keep up with Black Hills’ six second half 3-pointers. CSC out-rebounded Black Hills 33-29. The Yellow Jackets saw four players score double-digit points while the Eagles were led by Jessica Lovitt, senior of Mullen, who scored a season-high 14 points.

The Eagles got off to a slow start against South Dakota Mines as the Hardrockers led 42-14 at halftime. CSC hit two-of-16 3-pointers against South Dakota Mines while the Hardrockers went 14-of-33 from the arc. Sophomore Ryan Weiss, of Ames, Iowa, led Mines with 21 points and was joined by three teammates who scored double digits.

CSC saw Rachel Henkle, sophomore of Newcastle, Wyoming, score a career-high 14 points.

“We struggled to get going early. We turned the ball over a lot, especially the first quarters of both games. We weren’t able to play strong enough defense to keep either team down with us. Giving the ball up that many times makes for a long, hard game. We fought, but we couldn’t overcome the distress that turnovers tend to cause.” Raymer said.
