Hailing from Florida to California, from Texas to Minnesota, 46 people are vying for one spot at Chadron State – head football coach.

“It’s a national search,” Brad Smith, athletic director and search committee cochair, said Wednesday.

The new coach should be “first and foremost a person who understands the positive nature of the college,” Smith stated Tuesday via email.

Smith outlined the top criteria by which the committee would be evaluating the applicants, as well as the skills and characteristics such a position would entail.

“A person who will understand the importance of academics and academic’s relationship with our football program. He will be a strong communicator with an ability to lead and motivate this football team in a positive manner,” Smith stated.

Smith continued by highlighting the role of recruiting, leadership, and dedication that the position requires.

“Knowledge of the X’s and O’s of football. Love Chadron State College for what it has to offer, and work hard to improve the program wherever that improvement is needed,” were also characteristics Smith listed.

CAMPUS ACTIVITIES BOARD

Senate seeks student input, schedules pool tour Sara Labor Lifestyles Editor Student Senate had a brief meeting Monday night when they discussed gathering student opinions for improvements on campus and the rules of solicitation on campus.

Secretary Chrissy Black distributed “walk-through” surveys and asked the senators to go to as many buildings as possible to ask students what kind of improvements they’d like to see on campus. Black asked the senators to return ten opinions by the next meeting.

Vice President James Bahensky distributed a sheet with the school’s rules on solicitation on campus. Bahensky said that people cannot sell things on campus without prior permission, and asked that if anyone sees solicitations on campus to report it to someone.

In other matters, Student Trustee, Riley Machal said she

went to Lincoln last week, and the board of trustees was excited to hear about the culturally diverse activities that have been happening on campus.

Machal said she also asked what would occur with student activity fees for the pool.

She said that as of now there is not a set fee on how much the student activity fee could be raised; it could be up-to $2 per credit hour or not at all.

Bahensky said that the senators would be meeting early at 4 p.m. to tour the pool in two weeks.

Treasurer, T.J. Thomson, said that there are $11,500 in unallocated funds.

Senate Sponsor, Jamie Wada, assistant professor of justice studies, said he had looked into getting a Redbox on campus.

Wada said that the possibility of having a Redbox on campus would depend on the college’s and Redbox’s policies.

CAB elects VP, plans semester events Kelsey Amos Reporter The CAB members elected a vice president and allocated money for two campus events at their meeting on Tuesday.

Samantha Evans, treasurer, said the CAB account contains $19, 770. She said clubs need to make sure they have their budget packets. Clubs will be able to sign up Monday at Laure Sinn’s office for budget hearing time slots.

Sinn, CAB adviser, said clubs requesting less than $1,000 will have 10 minute budget hearings and clubs requesting more than $1,000 will have 20 minute hearings.

The Campus Activities Board elected Stephanie Eggleston as the new CAB vice president. Eggleston was elected after the four vice president candidates read their letters of intent. The candidates were Eggleston, Tiffani Roelle, Bryant Pritchett, and Ashley Swanson.

Luke Wright, president, said CAB is sponsoring a career fair that is scheduled for the third week in February.

CAB allocated $2,500 for the fair expenses. The fair will include a résumé and cover letter session, presentations on dining etiquette and professional wardrobes, and a career and internship

fair with local businesses.

CAB resumed its discussion of the Free Movie Night event, which was tabled during the last CAB meeting. CAB allocated $1,800 for a tentative free movie night in the future. Wright said that Senate is in favor of pre-scheduling the dates for the event.

After discussion, the CAB representatives voted in favor of scheduling free movie nights the third Sunday of every month and free bowling nights every other month. Wright said that money for the events will still be allocated prior to each scheduled event, so CAB will not over-spend its budget. Free bowling will be a late night event, from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Riley Machal, student trustee, distributed a survey to the CAB representatives about the proposed building of a new swimming pool in the NPAC, and other campus renovations. Students’ fees may be increased by $2 per credit hour to pay for the pool, Sinn said, but plans for the pool are still tentative.

Machal said that it is almost time to elect a new student trustee; students interested in the position can contact Machal at the CAB office in the Student Center for application information.

Wright said that the college is hav-

ing an open house event to recruit prospective freshman on Monday, Feb. 20. Clubs are encouraged to represent their clubs with booths, which will be set up from 8 – 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. – noon. Clubs that are interested in participating should contact Wright by Feb. 10.

Shellie Johns, CAB adviser, said that all campus events, from sporting events to club events, are being posted on a calendar at Laure Sinn’s office in the Student Center. The calendar is a new form of advertising for campus events.

Wright said the Student Center Pit has new management. Paul McGowan is the new manager, and Reba Jackson is the new assistant manager.

Wright reminded representatives that the next CAB meeting is Feb. 7.

Digital sign lights up campus entrance T.J. Thomson Executive Editor Chadron State College recently paid $22,545 for a digital message board that was recently mounted to the newly-upgraded campus entrance at the corner of 10th and Main Streets.

The director of conferencing will chair a committee responsible for establishing what will appear on the sign, Blair Brennan, coordinator of physical facilities, stated in an email Wednesday.

The sign will be able to feature color images, as well as motion sequences.

“The new sign is capable of producing photo images, although the closer you get, the more distortion you will see,” Brennan stated.

Brennan stated that he hoped the installer from the manufacturer would be on campus today or tomorrow, but that he hasn’t received confirmation yet.

“It should be a very nice addition to the campus, upon its completion in the next week or so,” Brennan stated.

“The realization that football is not life—but an avenue that will provide discipline, leadership, loyalty, and brotherhood that will be beneficial to all throughout their life,” Smith stated was one of the life experiences that he wished every coach could experience.

Smith stated that the number of finalists and their identities would become public knowledge as the committee finishes reviewing the applicants.

“Depending on the number of finalists we may conduct phone interviews followed by on-campus interviews. Our plans are that the finalists will meet with the search committee, the campus administration, and the team,” Smith stated.

New management at Student Center’s ‘Pit’ Earlier this week, a five-member search committee announced a new manager and assistant manager for The Pit. Paul McGowan, junior of Kingston, Jamaica, was appointed Pit manager, and Reba Jackson, junior of Hay Springs, was chosen as assistant manager. The two were selected from a pool of seven applicants.

McGowan said that Pit workers have a lot of influence, so he hopes to make changes that will affect students positively. McGowan also wants to expand the scale and scope of Pit activities so that they leave a lasting impression.

“We want to be remembered after they [graduating students] leave college,” McGowan said.

McGowan also said that he anticipates The Pit’s events to take on a more educational approach in the future.

“Once we develop good ideas, we won’t worry about attendance,” McGowan said.

The five-member selection committee who appointed McGowan and Jackson included Tami Fosher, manager of Residence Life; Kay Hill, manager of the Eagle Pride bookstore; Shellie Johns, director of conferencing; Laure Sinn, coordinator of student activities; and Luke Wright, CAB president.

Protestors halt SOPA/PIPA, but for how long?

Perhaps last week you noticed that almost every website you visited was “blacked out.” This was because these websites were showing their dissent with the Stop Online Piracy Act, known as SOPA, and the PROTECT IP Act (Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act) also known as PIPA which were trying to be passed through Congress last week. Both are intended to curtail online piracy.

At first glance, this makes sense. Copyright laws aren’t a bad thing. Piracy is not exactly something that is moral. However, both SOPA and PIPA would give Congress the power to shut down any website without review.

Not to mention that in this age, many people under the age of 30 have posted a photo on Facebook, put a song on their blog, or done some parody on YouTube. Is everyone under 30 going to end up in jail then? That doesn’t seem like such a great idea.

These bills are an obvious infringement on our right to free speech. Who doesn’t have a blog these days where they want to share some great image? Under SOPA, Tumblr, Blogger or Wordpress could be shut down for not keeping track of those images.

Many individual YouTube videos are removed today at the request of copyright holders for including clips of music or movies. Under SOPA/PIPA half of YouTube could disappear without notice.

The Internet is a huge, creative tool and both bills would put a damper on the creativity that the Internet has inspired. Websites would automatically censor themselves, stifling the explosion of creativity the open Internet has allowed.

The censorship that SOPA/PIPA would bring about is also an infringement on our freedom of speech. People should be able to write, post, or link to whatever they want on the Internet. If the Internet becomes censored, what’s next?

Though neither SOPA nor PIPA was approved in Congress (both will remain on hiatus until support can be rebuilt), some form of censorship on the Internet seems inevitable.

The online petitions and blacked-out websites seem to have worked for now. Hopefully, people will continue to show they value freedom of speech on the Internet.

Combat stresses led to dishonorable acts ACTIONS OF FEW SHOULDN’T TARNISH THE GOOD OF OTHERS

Earlier this month, a CSC student and former Marine asked me if I had heard about the four USMC Snipers who had been filmed urinating on the bodies of dead Taliban insurgents.

I was unaware of the situation and the news brought an immediate rush of shame and disgrace. I thought if this news was true then these individuals were not acting like Marines when they committed such misconduct.

This incident highlights the impacts of combat stress and the need for moral leaders. U.S. military members often turn to humor as a means to alleviate stress. Although I am in no way defending their actions. It seems like urinating on the dead bodies of insurgents may have been a case of a joke carried too far.

To my knowledge, this case has not been determined to be a violation of the laws of war but it is certainly a violation of the Universal Code of Military Justice. In an organization that prides itself on slogans like “death before dishonor,” I’m positive that these Marines will be disciplined for their misconduct.

Even with the high moral standards

placed on our military members, there are cases where service members act contrary to the values of the U.S. The military is larger than any other organization in America, and just like any other institution, and even with rigorous screening processes, there are those that join the military that lack the values and morals to carry out such an important mission.

It is truly regrettable that the actions of a handful of Marines will have such a negative impact on the mission. I can guarantee you that this film is being used around the world to encourage extremists.

This disgraceful action will lead to the loss of life and further injury to U.S. personnel. A single negative act can erase hundreds of thousands of positive impacts the military is making overseas.

This action also brings to light the extreme level of discipline required to be a modern war-fighter. We authorize our military to use any legal means to destroy their enemy. This could include turning them into nothing more than a pink mist through high-explosive artillery rounds, blowing their bodies apart with grenades, shooting them in the hip or stomach which might translate into long and painful deaths, and even crushing their heads with the butt of a rifle.

Now imagine the discipline required to flip the mindset from engaging the enemy through extreme violence to not wanting to continue to attack the bodies after the en-

emy has died. Military members are given permission to do all manner of violent acts on living individuals that would never be allowed against lifeless bodies.

Incidents like this also highlight our cultural enjoyment in the failures of honorable men and women. Thousands of positive actions of the military are not reported on a daily bases. The death of six Marines in a helicopter crash failed to get anywhere near the publicity the actions that brought discredit to the Marines.

When is the last time you were told about the number of missing American soldiers and contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan?

In an era where a tiny percentage of Americans are doing such good around the world by serving in the military, the media dedicates far more time and resources in exposing their faults than reporting their strengths and accomplishments.

For those who find the actions of these Marines unacceptable, I agree with that sentiment. But this should be a time to help these people and others to prevent things like this.

If you find fault in the actions in these Marines, I would say that you should try to do your part to stop further incidents from occurring.

So many of those who are abroad need to know that while there tremendous pressure and stress—we at home will do what we can to help them out and prevent similar issues in the future.

Dear Editor: This is written in response to an opinion by Aaron Gonzalez in the Jan. 19, issue of The Eagle.

As a trained, experienced educator for years in lower elementary education, a parent and a grandmother to a dozen grandchildren, I find the words of little ones as trustworthy or more so than trained scientists or philosophers.

Aaron said a child’s words couldn’t be trusted. Have you read the book “Heaven is for Real” by Todd Burpo?

There have been over 6.6 million copies sold and the book is the number one best seller in America and Canada for 51 weeks. It is in other translations already and a Children’s edition is now on the market.

I read the book and I listened to Todd and Sonja Burpo Friday night at CSC. I watched videos they showed of little Colton on the 700 Club, pointing to his wrists while telling about his visit to Heaven.

He said his parents’ names are “Daddy Burpo, Mama Burpo” and he is “Colton Burpo.”

When Colton, now 12, read the book he said, “Dad, it was the truth.”

Colton told his father that Jesus said he was answering his Dad’s prayer and he had to go back. There were prayer chains for Colton all over and in the hospital.

Doctors gave the family no hope for Colton.

Todd explained that his son knew more about God than he did.

My Bible says that we must have the faith of a little child to reach heaven and a little child shall lead them.

The parents, Todd and Sonja Burpo, refuted your every argument against the impossibility of this story. I was hoping you would come listen and learn from that family.

Do you know what color God’s eyes are?

How can you refute the idea that Colton saw Jesus with color in his eyes?

It could have been the bright light too, you know.

God offers us an eternal hope as did the pastor and family of Bob Marshall, Con’s father, at his memorial service the following morning.

Pastor Burpo suggested we pray, “God use me” and watch to see the results that will surprise us.

My prayers have already resulted in amazing results. I hope yours will too. We need to share faith with love and not destroy anyone’s hope or faith.

Why were you calling the book and presentation fiction? Heaven has been explained to be like the dog waiting outside a door only knowing that his master is inside. That’s where want to be to see Jesus. I have heard many people give credit to prayer.

After many prayers, I lost my young grandson, Joey, to cancer and brother Ted lived when doctor’s gave our parents no hope for his survival. God decides not us.

Todd said our relationships on earth will continue in Heaven. That Is encouraging. Pop, Todd’s grandfather was killed in a car accident at 61 years.

When the grandmother showed Colton the picture of Pop at a younger age without telling him anything about the picture, Colton exclaimed, “That is Pop. I saw him.” He didn’t recognize his great grandmother as a younger person.

We will all be changed. Fix your eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. Hebrews 12:2 states, “For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning it’s shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” I found the presentation encouraging and a blessing. Many others concur with that conclusion.

Young Colton did a wonderful job of singing Amazing Grace at the end.

A glimpse into the past . . .

Two CSC students sentenced for possession of marijuana – Jan. 29, 2004 - Adam Rocky Chavez and Luke Sabala were sentenced on Jan. 20 after committing a Class III felony. Chavez was sentenced to three months of intense supervision and an ankle bracelet, while Sabala was sentenced to five years probation and had to serve six months in jail prior to his sentence ending. After the Western Intelligence Narcotics Group found one and half pounds of marijuana in Chavez’s car he was arrested and charged with a Class II felony of possession and intent to deliver. Sabala was not arrested but was considered a suspect.

The post began in 1847 as a temporary cantonment during the turmoil of the frontier Indian Wars. Throughout the years, it expanded and became one of the largest military installations on the northern plains. The post survived the frontier period and was used by the U.S. Army after World War Two. Toadstool Geologic Park Oglala National Grassland

HISTORY ON THE AMAZING ROCK FORMATION Toadstool Park is located in the Ogalala Grassland area, also known as Nebraska's Badlands, and is about 18 miles north of Crawford. As well as having a badlands landscape, the park includes a reconstructed sod house, which also serves as camping grounds for campers. The area used to have a wide river flowing through, but when the river started to decrease in size, the rocks were slowly uncovered.

Visitors are welcome to take as many photos as the cameras memory can hold. Along the trail, there are multiple fossils and fossil imprints of small horses; camels; huge land tortoises; gigantic pigs; rhinos; and large prehistoric animals such as the entelodont, an extinct family of pig-like omnivores, and the hyaenodons, a group of carnivorous creodonts. Visitors are encouraged not to touch or take any of the fossils. The park is open year-round, 24-hours a day but it is recommended that visitors avoid the park during or after a rain storm because the roads are often very slick. Chadron State Park Chadron LOCAL PARK'S AMENITIES Chadron State Park is a state park of Nebraska containing part of the Pine Ridge. The park is nine miles south of Chadron, within the Nebraska National Forest. Being Nebraska's oldest state park; established in 1921, has 974 acres and contains a modern campground and 16 cabins. Activities include, swimming in a outdoor pool, horseback riding, archery, Frisbee golf, hiking, tennis, sand volleyball and fishing. The park also has rental paddleboats and several hiking trails.

Cabins are equipped with small showers, toilet facilities, and a small kitchen with stove and refrigerator.

The park is heavily wooded with ponderosa pine and cottonwood trees near the creek and lagoon.

The Eagles might as well make themselves at home at the foot of the Rocky Mountains.

Last week, the team traveled south to take on Colorado State University, Pueblo and the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

This week, they’re headed back to

Colorado to face off with the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo. on Friday and Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colo. on Saturday.

The School of Mines will be a challenging opponent for the Eagles. The Orediggers were ranked 12th by the Jan. 17 NABC Division II Coaches Poll. With a 15-2 record (11-2 RMAC), the Orediggers sit at 2nd in

the RMAC standings. Mines, in the midst of a 3-game winning streak, is led by 6’4” junior Brett Green of Peyton, Colo., ranked 3rd in the conference for points scored.

The Orediggers’ only apparent weakness is 3-point defense, for which they rank 10th in the conference. see BASKETBALL, page 9

Mountaineers crush Eagles Kevan Carr Contributor Can the Eagle wrestlers come back?

The Chadron State wrestling team grappled their way through two duals last week. On Thursday, Jan. 19 they came across Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colo. and emerged victorious with a 22-13 win over the Mavericks. Their celebration was cut short

by Western State College the next night, Friday, Jan. 20, in a 28-9 loss to the Mountaineers.

Against the Mavericks, Chadron won six matches (one by forfeit), with a solid performance by Mikah Kadera, senior of Sheridan, Wyo., in the 165 class. The bout, against sophomore Dylan Granard of Woodinville, Wash., who was ranked 4th in the nation by the Dec. 6 NWCA Poll, resulted in a 5-3 overtime win for Kadera.

The next night, facing the nationallyranked Mountaineers (18th in the Jan. 11 NWCA Poll), Chadron lost the first five matches in a row, setting them too far behind in points to be able to muster a comeback victory. In spite of the stiff competition, Kadera and sophomore

teammate Jordan DeBus of Mitchell managed to pull out victories in the 165 and 184 classes, respectively. Chris Leak, junior of Omaha, didn’t wrestle Friday after suffering undisclosed, and according to head coach Scott Ritzen, minor injuries the previous night in his win against Mesa.

The Eagles are now 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the RMAC. Head coach Scott Ritzen believes that with a few changes, his team can move back up in the standings from their last-place berth.

“We need consistency,” Ritzen said, “RMAC is the toughest conference in the nation. Our guys will do good one duel then bad the next. We just need to focus as a team and bump up the intensity. Our team is full of young athletes so we need our older guys like [Chris] Leak to be leaders and rub off on the younger teammates.”

The Eagles will participate in an exhibition match versus the Division I University of Northern Colorado, Saturday Jan. 28 in Greeley, Colo.

“Going up against a Division I team, we’ll have our backs against the wall,” Ritzen said, “If we get a team win, or even just some individual victories, then it’d be a huge boost in team morale.”

Chadron is ranked 6th in the conference for 3-point accuracy, shooting about 36 percent, but Bargen said that the team will have to score consistently all around the court to be successful.

“We have to have balance inside and outside,” Bargen said, “We can’t be a one-dimensional offense.”

Saturday’s game against the 2-15 (1-12 RMAC) CCU Tigers might be an easier time for the Eagles. Ranked last in the conference, Colorado Christian gives up an average of 79.1 points per game while scoring an average of only 61.1 for what is by far the conference’s worst scoring margin: -18.

Bargen stressed that intensity would be key to the team’s success this weekend.

“I think the biggest thing is playing with high energy and believing that if we play hard, good things will happen,” he said.

During last week’s visit to Colorado, the Eagles added one win and one loss to their record.

Last Friday, they faced the 9-8 (6-7 RMAC) Colorado State University, Pueblo ThunderWolves. The south-eastern Colorado team earned the advantage early in the contest and never gave it up, extending to a 25 point lead by the game’s 82-57 conclusion. Junior Ryan Arel of Shawnee, Kan., produced 20 points for Pueblo while junior Bryse Velasquez of Colorado Springs, Colo., and senior Andre Martin of San Diego added 18 apiece.

Chadron’s efforts were led by seniors Moala Tautuaa of San Francisco and Kevin McClelland of Long Beach, Calif., who scored 13

and 10, respectively.

Bargen found the team’s performance a little lackluster.

“Our energy and focus wasn’t what it was in other games,” Bargen said, “We came out a bit flat.

The next day, UCCS proved to be a less threatening adversary than the ThunderWolves, but the 6-11 (1-12 RMAC) Mountain Lions aren’t without teeth of their own.

Four of their players (more than any school in the conference) rank among the conference’s most accurate 3-point shooters. The team is led in 3-point percentage by freshman Alex Koehler (3rd in the conference) of Colorado Springs, shooting 27 of 58 on the season for a .468 average.

George Pollard, junior, also of Colorado Springs, leads the conference in 3-pointers made, with 44 on the season for a 2.3 per-game average. Chadron, however, led by senior Chris Curtis of Tustin, Calif., and Kevin McClelland, who each contributed 17 points, outshot UCCS 53 percent to 45 percent in the 78-73 victory. Tautuaa helped out with a double-double, racking up 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Bargen said that several scrappy plays lifted the Eagles over the Mountain Lions.

“We really competed and stepped forward in a lot of hustle plays,” Bargen said, referring to the team’s nine offensive rebounds and four blocked shots.

The Eagles will play their next home game against Western State College, Gunnison, Colo. on Feb. 4.

‘S leeping B eauty’ S hines

his year’s Nu Delta Alpha and Consuming Fire Dance School’s Winter Ballet lit up the stage in Memorial Hall Saturday with their production of Sleeping Beauty.

Both Princess Aurora, played by August Korb, and Prince Philip, played by Austin Korb brought a stunning performance.

August Korb shone particularly in a dance sequence when she was being led through the woods by a fairy, and the evil Malificent, played by Donna Gimeson, tempted her to prick her finger on a rose. The choreography was beautiful, and the tension on stage made the audience members hold their breath in anticipation for the terrible moment when Malificent might actually win.

The members of Nu Delta Alpha played the King and Queen and other members of the court. Unfortunately, their choreography began to turn into the monotony of deja vu. Each time the Court danced, it was the same choreography. During a celebration for their newborn daughter, the king, played by Willis Miller, and the queen, played by Jayma Loughry, danced happily around the stage. The second time began to get monotonous. The third time they did the same dance, it was painful. However, the magnificent costumes of the court made up for the deja vu the audience experienced.

Overall, however, the ballet was a wonderful and enjoyable success.

Author of ‘Heaven is For Real’ draws large crowds for lecture Friday Ashley Swanson Reporter Around 1,000 people, both students and community members, filled the ballroom to listen to the story behind “Heaven is For Real,” Friday. After a short five-minute video about the program “Feed the Children,” Jason Ebeling, lead pastor at Discovery Church in Winterville, N.C., introduced Todd Burpo, author of “Heaven is For Real.”

Burpo started by discussing his son Colton’s book, “Heaven is For Real for Kids,” which was written by Colton, with the mentoring help of his family and agent. His book was written almost a year after his father’s book.

“I just wanted kids to know how heaven was and what it looked like. I wanted to show kids that heaven isn’t a scary place,” Colton said.

After a few songs from The Discovery Church Band, which brought most of the audience to their feet to sing along, a video clip of the “700 Club” took the screen. The video covered the story of Colton’s journey.

When Colton Burpo was four years old, he started having medical problems. The doctors determined that his appendix had burst and an infection started to grow throughout his body; he needed to have surgery right away.

In the video, Todd talks about how his frustration took over

and how he was angry with God. “After all I’ve done for you, you’re going to take my kid,” he’d said.

During surgery, Colton almost died, but lived and today is a healthy, 12 year old boy.

According to the family, Colton took a trip while he was under. It wasn’t until four months after his surgery that he started talking about how he was flown to heaven by Jesus and angels.

Colton described Jesus as wearing white robes with a purple sash, and having bright blue eyes, and marks on his palms and feet. Colton’s story also included meeting his father’s grandpa, “Pop,” who passed away when Todd was seven, and learning about the miscarriage that his mother had.

At the end of the video, Colton claimed Jesus told him that he had to go back. According to Colton, he didn’t want to and asked why; Jesus replied that he was answering his father’s prayer.

Ebeling then interviewed Todd and his wife Sonja about their experience. Todd went into more details about how there was no way Colton could have known about his father’s grandpa, for there were never any pictures shown to him nor did anyone talk about him to Colton. Todd said he showed a picture to Colton of his grandparents, who were younger at the time. Todd said that Colton recognized Pop right away.

Sonja goes more in depth of when Colton came up to her and said, “I have two sisters.” This, too, Sonja said, was something he

couldn’t have known. Astonished, Sonja had asked how he knew that. He told her that he saw her when he was in heaven and how she looked just like his older sister, only she had dark hair and brown eyes.

On the verge of tears, Sonja went on to say how Colton said that when he first saw his sister, she came up to him and gave him lots of hugs and said that she was excited to see their parents one day.

The book, which is a New York Times number one bestseller, nonfiction paperback and has sold 6.6 million copies, with 11 finished translations, goes more in depth about the family’s story.

“Heaven is For Real,” which came out in November 2010, took about two years to finish, not counting the amount of time it took to determine what was going to go into the book, finding an agent, and writing and re-writing the numerous manuscripts.

Although reluctant to write the book in order to protect his son, Todd said that God spoke to him in a prayer and said that since he found peace in knowing about his daughter, he should share the peace. Eventually, an agent was found and the process of writing and editing began.

After the interview was over, Colton took the stage and sang “Amazing Grace,” followed by a closing remark from Todd. The Discovery Church Band got the audience to its feet again, where everyone joined in singing, and the presentation ended with a prayer.
