4 wrestlers punished for role in hazing Managing Editor Two conference champions, one of whom qualified for the 2016 NCAA DII National Championships, were among four wrestlers kicked off the team for their role in a hazing ritual on Saturday, Sept. 9.

Chance Helmick, junior of Hickman; brothers Cooper and Willy Cogdill, junior and sophomore, respectively, both of Chadron; and Luke Zeiger, junior of Glasgow, Montana, were removed from the roster at least as of Friday.

“We had some team rules that were broken,” Wrestling Head Coach Brett Hunter said. “We handled it internally and that is all I am going to say right now.”

Messages to the four individuals seeking comment went unanswered before press time, Wednesday.

Helmick, at the 174-pound weight class, and Cooper at heavyweight, won the RMAC championships in their respective weight classes last season. Helmick also qualified for the national tournament after placing third at regionals.

Students recall massacre memories Torri Brumbaugh Lifestyles Editor CSC students, John Murphy and Riley Ellis, traveled home safely from Las Vegas after the mass shooting at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Sunday night.

Murphy, 21, senior of Harrison, and his two friends, Ellis, 21, junior of Harrison, and friend Antonio Lopez, 23 of Boulder, Colorado, traveled to Vegas Friday night after finding $40 round trip tickets.

“We found the tickets and thought, ‘what the heck, why not go?’” Murphy said.

Sunday night, the three men continued their weekend of gambling and fun at their hotel, Harrah’s Las Vegas. After debating whether to travel five hotels down to the

Mandalay Bay for a buffet, gambling and music, Murphy said they decided to wait. It was later that night they realized they had made a smart choice.

At 10:08 p.m., police received a call about Stephen Paddock, 64, shooting from his 32nd-floor room at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, states the New York Times.

“All of a sudden I heard a big boom and people screaming. There was a shooter and they had a gun,” Murphy said. He immediately alerted Ellis and Lopez, who both had headphones in at the time.

The three ducked under a table and Murphy checked Twitter to find out the details of the incident.

because on one end there were security guards that were saying ‘nothing is going on,’ but on the other end, everyone was saying to stay down.”

After five minutes, Murphy, Ellis and Lopez headed up to their room to check the news. Murphy called his parents to let them know of the situation and inform them that the men were safe.

“Initially when we turned on the news there were probably two people that had died and 40 that were injured,” Ellis said.

According to the New York Times most recent update Wednesday evening, the fatalities of the mass shooting rose to 59 with over 500 injured. The shooting is deemed the deadliest mass shooting in the United States.

The next morning, the men woke up to an overwhelming response to the tragedy and people concerned for their safety.

Murphy states he had 24 text messages and 22 Snapchats when he checked his phone at 7 a.m.

“It was hard to process it all at one time because we thought about going down to the [Mandalay Bay],” said Ellis.

Monday morning, the men continued to tour Vegas and noticed the abundance of police and security stationed in the city. The Strip was closed, but they were able to see the windows shot out at the Mandalay Bay. Murphy, Ellis and Lopez safely left Las Vegas Monday morning and returned home, grateful that they chose to stay at Harrah’s Sunday night.

Online classes need to be monitored As the technology in our world develops and expands, education evolves right along with it. As education evolves, online classes and degrees become more and more common. We, editors at The Eagle, understand the convenience of it, colleges being able to enroll more and more students and saving room in the classrooms.

However, how can the institution guarantee total academic honesty?

Some would argue that academic honesty is a personal thing and something you can’t even guarantee with an on-campus class. We follow up with, who proctors the tests?

How can you guarantee that all exams administered online aren’t being Googled the entire time?

Can an institution administer an online degree in nursing and be confident that the student knows medical terminology, a vital skill in that career field? Where that lack of knowledge can have dire consequences? Medical terminology is a class often offered online even to students even to on-campus students.

The colleges roll in so much money from offering online classes be-

cause they can fit a virtually unlimited amount of people into the class.

We also understand the convenience of it to the majority of students. Some work full-time, are parents, and simply don’t have the time to drop everything and become a full-time, on-campus student. However, we believe that online classes can lack some vital components of education. It lacks the connection of educators to students as well as the significance of lectures.

Every student that has taken an online class has likely experienced the temptation to pull Google up in the next tab and look up all of the answers. It’s all too easy. That’s the reality of how far our society has come with technology.

Our solution is this; There are computer programs available that can monitor and proctor test-taking. We believe that is the most responsible way to administer an online class. We realize that it’s not feasible to advocate to abolish online classes, but we do advocate to be more proactive and preserve the integrity about them.

However, there are more scholarships available for on-campus students than online students. There is value in attending on-campus classes with an instructor lecture and group-thinking activities with classmates. We believe the benefits outweigh the cost, along with more readily-available scholarships factored in.

We realize there are situations where an online degree is the only possible way that one can receive a degree. Therefore, The Eagle editors propose submitting all assignments through Turnitin.com or another method to check academic honesty and find a way to proctor a test. For students that live far away, we propose going to a local library and having them proctor. The possibilities are not time-consuming, they are simple. These are solutions to help both educator and student. It protects the student from cheating or plagiarism accusations while also protecting the educator’s reputation of structure and credentials.

Cut the FOMO out of your life Torri Brumbaugh Lifestyles Editor You’re just sitting in your room, doing homework, maybe eating cereal, and perfectly fine with the pajamas you have on, and then it happens: you decide to check your phone.

All of a sudden, your productive night seems incredibly boring and drab compared to the 50 Snapchat stories you’re watching. Someone is at a party with 20 of their closest friends, someone is skydiving, another is backstage at a Shania Twain concert and someone is traveling the world (even though I thought we all agreed to be broke college students). Everyone you know is having the time of their life while you are dripping milk and Lucky Charms on yourself.

This feeling, this ‘my life sucks and I don’t have any friends’ feeling, actually has a name - FOMO. The fear of missing out, FOMO, is a real thing. We

all feel it at one point, but we can avoid it. So let’s talk about the main cause of our generation’s FOMO: social media.

I love my life. I mean, that is until I look at social media and realize that I am not nearly skinny enough, pretty enough, or productive enough. After looking at my Instagram feed, it’s like I can’t even eat avocado toast properly.

I am all for posting every waking second of your day to the entire universe, but I think we should be cautious about how much we get consumed in the lives of other people. Especially when we have great things going on in our own lives.

Instead of focusing on what others are doing, maybe pay attention to your life.

Maybe you’re getting ahead on your homework, working on your GPA or writing a paper that was due a week ago. You could also be spending some much needed time relaxing after a stressful day, week, or

year. I, for one, think that taking naps is a great way to spend your time, but social media makes it seem otherwise.

We have to remember that even beating your high score on Fallout 4 or Madden 18 is an accomplishment. Everyone needs days that aren’t filled to the brim with “fun” activities. Just because what you are doing isn’t Insta-worthy doesn’t mean that it isn’t important.

We must keep in perspective that people tend to only pot their highlights. That one Snapchat they took could have been the one happy moment of their night. They may be seeing your Snapchats and feeling FOMO too.

Basically, put your phone down and enjoy what is going on around you instead of wishing you were somewhere else or someone else. It is so easy to get swept away in someone else’s portrayed life on social media. Focus on you and cut out the FOMO.

If you asked a college student how the semester was going, this is probably what they would say. Between going to classes, doing homework, participating in clubs, working a job and going out with friends, it seems almost impossible to find time to sleep, eat or relax.

One thing that many college students have a problem with is agreeing to do too many things. There are only so many hours in a day and only so many things you can accomplish at one time. As students, it is important to learn to say no. If a friend asks for help to set up for a club’s movie night, but you have a huge test to study for, it’s okay to say no. If your roommate wants to go to a movie, but you have a paper that’s due in two days, it’s okay to say you’d rather stay home. If everyone in your hall is going to a party, but you’d rather stay in and watch a movie, it’s okay to say you don’t want to.

Committing your time to many different things not only adds stress, but the more things you have to do in a day, the less likely it is that you will be able to do your best on each individual thing. You can only focus so much time on things and there will inevitably be tasks that fall through the cracks. Say no and determine which things you do or don’t have time for so you can complete your tasks to the best of your ability.

Now, I’m not saying don’t help your friends or be involved in social activities. The only way to make memories is to experience things and go out with friends. It is important to learn to say no. You cannot do everything, no matter how bad you want to or how hard you try.

Saying no to things that are not as important as others will lessen your stress load and leave you more time to focus on the things that do matter. You have to figure out what is important to you and what you want to focus on during your college years. Say no and save yourself the unnecessary stress.

The CSC women’s volleyball team suffered a frustrating 3-2 loss Friday evening against the Griffins of Westminster College at the Behnken Field House in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Eagles were off to a great start and took a match lead of 2-0 over their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe.

The Griffins came out on top in the final three sets to secure the comeback victory over the Eagles in five sets (25-23, 3230, 19-25, 17-25, and 10-15). The loss puts the Eagles record at 4-10, 1-5 in the RMAC. “The first two games of our match, we did really well, but after halftime, we didn’t finish and execute when we needed to, but that’s something we are working on this week,” Timmi Keisel, sophomore of Fleming, Colorado, said.

The teams were fairly evenly matched in kills. The Griffins held a slight edge in this category 73-72. Dominika Senkerikova, junior of Uherksy Brod, Czech Republic, led the Eagles with 19 kills in the match. Gaby Varela, senior of Dorado, Puerto Rico, and Aijahnae Springs, junior of Converse, Texas, had 15 and 14 kills, respectively.

Madison Webb, junior of Loveland, Colorado, averaged 13 assists per set, totaling 65 assists on the night, equaling the Griffins total number of assists.

The Eagles had 73 digs while the Griffins had 64. Emily Bruce, senior of Centerton, Arkansas, topped the stat line in this category for both teams with 27 digs in the match. Webb had 13 digs and Ashton Burditt, sophomore of Spearfish, South Dakota, added 10 digs of her own.

The Eagles had 10 blocks, a season high, compared to Westminster’s 14. McKenna Hartigan, freshman of Hotchkiss, Colorado, paced the Eagles with 5 blocks, Webb with 4, and Keisel added three.

CSC will attempt to get back on track this weekend with two home conference matches. The Eagles will host Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota, Friday night and South Dakota School of Mines, Rapid City, South Dakota, at the Chicoine Center, Saturday.

“Black Hills is a good team, so we’re very excited to play them on our home court and implement everything we’ve been working on,” Keisel said.

when Holst connected with Brandon Fullerton, redshirt sophomore of Riverton, Wyoming, on a 13-yard pass.

After the Jacks answered with their own score, Kevin Coy, redshirt junior of Davenport, Florida, punched a touchdown in from one yard out. HSU scored one more time before halftime, pushing the score to 35-13.

The Eagles battled in the third quarter, keeping HSU out of the endzone until the final three minutes. Following an interception, HSU runningback Ja’Quan Gardner, senior of Ceres, California, scored on a goal line rush.

The rest of the game belonged to the Lumberjack secondary, picking off Holst three more times and Vinson on the last offensive play of the game for CSC. Holst finished the game with 27 completions and 302 yards with one touchdown.

Cowboys finish 3rd, Cowgirls 4th at Lamar Rodeo

The women’s side tallied three cowgirls in the top ten of their respective events.

Gillette College won both the men’s and the women’s team title. The men scored 560 points. CSC finished third with 370.

The GC cowgirls earned 405 points, 200 higher than second place. The CSC cowgirls earned fourth with 105.

New Lego Ninjago pales in comparison Caleb Wiederhold Reporter So, there’s Legos, appealing toy building blocks for kids. It was popular for kids, they made media stuff, ranging from video games to televisions and of course to movies. There have been direct-to-DVD movies, but there’s also theatrical releases including “Lego Movie” and the spin-off “Lego Batman Movie”.

Then, comes another spin-off called “Lego Ninjago Movie”.

In here, it’s about a misunderstood ninja teen Lloyd Garmadon or the Green Ninja, voiced

by Dave Franco, going up against his evil dad, Lord Garmadon, voiced by Justin Theroux, and fixing a mistake, which was accidentally putting up a laser light and bringing a destructive creature being a giant…non-Lego cat?

Well, it’s not the greatest film in the world, but at the same time it’s not the worst that I’ve watched. I’ve seen movies that are worse than this.

Here’s the difference between this and “Lego Movie” and “Lego Batman Movie.” While the main protagonists are comical, Lloyd is kind of serious than Emmet and Batman. While Emmet in “Lego Movie” was a nobody and trying

to fit into society, Lloyd is sort of the same, except he’s looked down on because everyone knows he’s a villain’s son. He has few friends, his uncle Master Wu, and his mother being at his side to begin with.

Lord Garmadon is a very unlikeable villain in here. He tends to yammer on and not being like a dad, when Lloyd wanted a loving father, while also seeing his son as a general and trying to replace his other generals for the “General #1” titles. While the other two Lego movies have comical protagonists with a comical villain, the “Lego Ninjago Movie” has a comical villain with a sort-of serious protagonist.

So far, it currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score that’s lower than “Lego Movie” and “Lego Batman Movie”. While “Lego Movie” has a 96 percent and “Lego Batman Movie” has a 91 percent, “Lego Ninjago Movie” currently has a 50 percent.

The humor was okay and the moment involving the cat and Lloyd was good. It was a decent movie, but it’s not that great comparing to “Lego Movie” and “Lego Batman Movie” has been.

The “Lego Movie” sequel is going to be released in 2019, so we’ll see how that’s going to go. For “Lego Ninjago Movie”, I’ll give it a grading of B- to C+.

Pool tournament attracts many skilled players Katelyn Lambert Reporter Forty-four CSC students went headto-head in the pool tournament last Thursday night in The Pit. The single-elimination bracket was drawn up at random, and players of all skill levels were encouraged to compete.

The prize?

A CueTec pool cue, with case, valued at $350.

The tournament had a slow start but saw many upsets, skewing the predicted outcome of the tournament. One of the biggest upsets of the evening was between Anthony Ige, junior of Denver, and Konery Klueber, sophomore of Rapid City, South Dakota.

Ige took an early lead by clearing the table of stripes, while Klueber trailed, picking up a few solids. Once down to Ige and the eight ball, Klueber caught some

speed and started to clear the solids from the table. Klueber proceeded to sink the eight ball and advanced in the bracket.

“It was a good game, a fight, but I came up short,” Ige said.

With the tournament slowly eliminating prospective pool sharks, the two hours of action led to a tense conclusion between Evan Smith, senior of Louisville, Colorado, and Klueber. Smith and Klueber each took one win, with the third game going to Klueber.

“Everybody came together at the end, showing lots of support,” Eli Garza, junior of Mission, Texas, said.

Garza was at the helm of the event and finds the leadership role he has taken with The Pit events more exciting.

“I really enjoy being so involved with the student body on campus,” Garza said.

The next Pit Pool Tournament will be November 2 at 9 p.m. Registration will be on location the same day of the tournament.

Student sales support hurricane relief Katelyn Lambert Reporter Over $600 was raised by members of the Health Professions Club (HPC), Sports Medicine Club, Beta Beta Beta, and Cardinal Key at the hurricane relief bake sale last week.

The bake sale took place in the Student Center Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoon. Club members baked treats, then worked hour-long shifts to raise money for hurricane victims.

All bake sale proceeds are going directly to the International Medical Corps, where relief services will be provided to those in areas affected by the hurricanes.

“It seemed like a natural fit in terms of places to donate,” Ann Buchmann, biology professor and faculty adviser for the event said.

The idea for the bake sale came to fruition after Hurricane Harvey and the ex-

tensive damage it caused to Houston.

Buchmann personally knows people affected and wanted to do whatever possible to help.

Club members also have personal ties to the hurricanes, as some club alumni are experiencing firsthand the aftermath of these destructive storms.

“Seeing the devastation they are going through was a big drive to help,” Ashton Hallsted said, sophomore of Casper, Wyoming, member of HPC and Sports Medicine Club.

Several hurricanes have ripped along the edges of the Americas throughout the past month, causing extreme damage to coastal communities.

Most recently, Hurricane Maria tore through Puerto Rico, leaving millions without power and limited access to food and water.

Victorianera Oxford students Charley Wykeham and Jack Chesney recruit their wealthy playboy friend, Lord Fancourt Babberly to impersonate Charley’s Brazilian aunt, Donna Lucia, to chaperone a double date the pair have planned. But unbeknownst to the trio, Jack’s father happens to be after Donna Lucia’s fortune, and the real Donna Lucia has come to town incognito to check up on her nephew.
