Due to the economic rise, businesses have more opportunities but less time. People don’t have much time to execute marketing strategies and events for the promotions of business which adds a break in the growth of the business. A word spread about business and its offerings is a basic need of the business in any sector to stand strong in the market.

Advertising and marketing is that component of the enterprise that you could never forget about. A sector is a large place and it’s very difficult to reach your target market faster and get powerful consequences. Creating events regularly offers a brilliant opportunity to promote business all over. From a business prospect, event management is vital for promotion, branding, integrated marketing, etc. to maintain your business’ position better at the marketplace. The more people are coming for your event the more methods are coming to you to extend your business. Event management gives you greater possibilities through publicity and builds a positive image of the brand. NeoNiche Integrated Solutions Pvt. Ltd is one of the fastestgrowing experiential marketing companies in Mumbai. Starting off as an event management company in 2011, the company quickly started focusing on developing event planning and experiential marketing solutions for clients. We help brands create a seamless endto-end experience for their audience and deliver immersive experiences that lead to unforgettable memories. 10

NeoNiche has more than 120 expert and solution-oriented people working harder to transform clients’ business. The master brain behind the long-standing success of the company is Mr. Prateek N. Kumar, Founder, and CEO of the company. His innovative vision helped many businesses with marketing as well as different promotion solutions to stand strong in the market. With the experience of selling everything from fireworks to soaps, to yellow pages, he quit his job and started NeoNiche Integrated Solutions Pvt. Ltd. The company is headquartered in Mumbai and runs its processes smoothly from branches at Bengaluru, Chennai, Gurugram, Hyderabad, New Delhi, and Noida. The Inception A smooth sea never makes a good sailor. Challenges are everywhere. A business cannot be successful without passing through any hurdles. Once we overcome the problems one by one, the business process gets stronger and with the experience, any crucial problems seem smaller one. NeoNiche started with very humble beginnings. Mr. Prateek decided to get out of his comfort zone, quit his corporate job and start his own venture. He says, “I remember we worked out from a basement we converted into our office space and borrowed my wife’s laptop for making my first pitch presentation. I did not have the backing of a family business, nor did I have the means to run the company, yet with limited resources I managed to get our first client. Interestingly, I thought that with my network I would easily get business but none of the people I knew supported me.

I had to reach out to clients on my own.” The first big client they got was when they told them not to pay if they were not happy with their services. That is how they built trust in the industry and from there on there was no looking back. The Triggering Point for Growth of the Company After the first 2-3 years, they reached a stagnancy and realized that they need to change the way they were operating if they needed to scale-up the business. That is when NeoNiche introduced new processes and hired experts to be a part of the team. It was critical for them to lay the right building blocks in every area of business to ensure that it would accelerate their business growth. The Rising Graph of Company Since Inception NeoNiche is one of the fastest growing companies in the industry and our growth has been above industry standards right from Day 1. • 2012 - 5 crore turnover • 2013 - 10 crores • 2014 - 20 crores

It’s a matter of practical experience, judgment, foresight and luck. To be successful in business, one must master the basics of business success. Fortunately, all business skills can be learnt. The key is to set goals and learn the skills you would require to achieve them. At NeoNiche, they have continuously worked towards mastering the basics and making concern for our customers a top priority. Quality Service Offerings From simply being another event management agency in Mumbai to being an experiential marketing company, the journey required constant adaptability to understand how to improve. The competition amongst event companies in the whole of India was difficult. At the start, event management helped

NeoNiche in the careful detailing of a consumer experience. Events are a beautiful field that involves countless effort but can create everlasting memories. From brand activations and product launches to corporate seminars and conferences, they look to bring something that will put a smile on people's faces. Along the journey, NeoNiche expanded their operations to other cities. Their event management capabilities soon expanded to Bangalore, New Delhi, Chennai and Gurugram. They specialize in corporate event management with a focus on creating a seamless endto-end experience to create unforgettable memories. The Company Taking Further Step With The industry is highly competitive and is growing leaps and bounds. Innovation and Technology are the key drivers for sustainable growth and development of the product and services. Mr. Prateek says, “I believe that innovation is a necessity for evolving your product/services. We constantly produce new products, services, processes and responses to be on top of the market offerings. We also bring in data intelligence on the table to study the global best practices and use them as a benchmark to upgrade our offerings.” NeoNiche has started their sponsorship services plus they're looking at other ideas for their customers' experience to maximize ROI for their customers’ brand. experience, they’re working on a whole new product line addressing the supply chain, product inventory experience and campaign applications. Words for Rising Entrepreneurs from The Founder & CEO While addressing to the rising entrepreneurs Mr. Prateek says, “A truly responsible entrepreneur is an individual who has assessed their ability to recognize an existing problem and found a viable solution to make the quality of life in general a little better for humanity. It was my dream to start NeoNiche and change the face of the industry but it was not possible for me to do everything on my own. It was equally important for me to get a top team in place who extended the values, vision and mission I had for the company and accelerated the growth.” About the Founder & CEO Mr. Prateek N. Kumar started his career in Hotel Management and worked with the Taj Group. However, he decided to pursue his passion in the event industry and joined a start-up event company. From there on he worked in the same space with his last stint being with Showbizz for almost a decade. He always had a burning desire to start on his own venture and hence gave birth to NeoNiche. Mr. Prateek stated that there are various milestones that are close to his heart and have been important in this journey. The first thing was getting a great team onboard as his partners who shared his vision and have made NeoNiche be a profitable company 11

Mr. Prateek says, “For me the biggest achievement has been my personal growth. Over the years, due to my resilience and frugality, I have made the best of every situation that has come my way and been grateful for the opportunity to learn.” The timeless Bhagavad Gita is one of the favorite books of Mr Prateek. The saying which resonates most with him is “Karm kar, phal ki itchha mat kar” which means that we should do our work without worrying about the results. He is fond of History as a subject and that one person he has always admired is Mahatma Gandhi due to his simplicity and philosophy of non-violence. Ratan Tata, Chairman of $100 Billion Tata Group is a big inspiration to him. In the world of business where loyalties are evershifting and competition dictates values, he stands out with his beliefs and is driven by principles that are rooted in responsibility than in self-fulfillment. Besides, two-thirds of the Tata group is owned by philanthropic groups which are rare in today's capitalistic world.

share that their company is known for looking out for each other. His aim has always been to create a workplace where people actually want to come and work and thrive as individuals. They are a young empowered company and have various initiatives where they encourage employee engagement. In fact, they have several instances where their employees have come back after leaving the organization as they have not been able to find this culture anywhere else. Overwhelming Client Experience NeoNiche has always believed in taking up projects where they would be pioneers and would take them outside of their comfort zone. Recently, they worked on executing a project for one of the largest cloud computing companies. Mumbai does not have a large convention Centre to accommodate 10,000 + people, so they converted a shed to host India’s largest silent conference. The entire event was segmented where attendees could walk around and hear sessions by switching the channel on their headset. To execute an event of such a scale, required leveraging technology to the maximum. Right from the start of the event, they automated processes like registration where the process took only 15 seconds which is 200% decrease in time as compared to a regular registration process. The entire event was seamlessly executed with the use of technology at various touchpoints.

The Workforce For Mr. Prateek taking care of a team is something which always has been a natural extension of who he is as a person. He feels proud to www.theenterpriseworld.com

Carbanio DIGITISING THE CHEMICALS INDUSTRY IN INDIA AND BEYOND an you imagine what happens when a young and aspiring student loves a subject in his undergrad years? A whole industry can be disrupted to be digitised.

C

realised that this course has applications in research and business. The course content was advanced compared to that of a master's in Organic Chemistry. So, it was a no brainer for me.

Read on to join the entrepreneurial journey of Dr. Rafi Shaik, who has built the digital platform Carbanio for the Chemicals industry.

After completing the master’s in 2002, I found a berth on GVK Biosciences team of 12 scientists recruited from across India. However, within a couple of months, the Pondicherry Central University selected me for conducting research. So, I packed my bags for Pondicherry.

How did you come to know and become part of the world of chemicals? “Thank you. That is a great question to start our conversation. As a student, I loved Chemistry. I particularly liked Organic Chemistry. I would always score very high grades in Chemistry and passed my bachelor’s with a distinction in Chemistry. Naturally, I was thinking of research in Chemistry. So, I was all charged up to ace my entrance examinations for the master’s programmes. I stood among the top candidates in the entrance exams at Andhra, Sri Venkateswara, and Osmania universities. So, I got to choose. In 2000, Sri Venkateswara University introduced a Medicinal Chemistry concentration in M.Sc. I 14

Studying medicinal chemistry was my first step into the world of chemicals. The Chemistry department at the university collaborated with the pharma industry’s big names, such as AstraZeneca, heavily and actively. Processes, methodologies, new innovations filled my world even as the industry’s big names kept discussing with us many challenges they faced. I focused on the most pressing problems in the industry. Five and a half years flew by. And I was awarded the doctorate for my thesis, Studies on synthesis and stereochemistry of selected saturated heterocycles.

materials, and the university benefitted from the royalties. During my research, I participated in three industry projects and published 14 papers in the national and international scientific journals. My grounding in the Chemicals industry grew from my research. Where did your journey take you after completing the research? I opted for post-doctoral research with National Health Research Institutes (NHRI), Taiwan. It was a nodal agency for 16 healthcare organisations. Multi-layered research from exploring a molecule to developing a drug was part of NHRI's capabilities. I was part of the team that developed the first anti-cancer drug. It was sold to an MNC and NHRI benefitted through royalty payments. After my postdoctoral research, I moved back to India, worked with a pharma company, worked as a process innovation scientist in the University of Hyderabad. At the later, I threw myself into the thick research testing more than 350 molecules for drug development. This was exciting for me. I got to hear the pressing challenges of the industry.

Also, we developed many patented January 2020

DR. RAFI SHAIK Founder & Chief Scientic Ofcer

How did you hit upon the idea of Carbanio?

And the process of obtaining chemicals is time-consuming.

I was lucky to be observing the pharma industry and academia research extensively. I understood the pharma industry’s pressing challenges. They ranged from the commercialisation of new products to sourcing. I started spotting some key disconnects in the ecosystem.

The industry faces supply-chain challenges. Sellers don’t know who to sell to, and buyers don’t know where to obtain chemicals at optimum prices. In other words, buying and selling are happening in pockets.

to address these very problems. How did Carbanio take shape?

In the Chemicals industry, there is no seamless way to buy and sell chemicals. Universities, pharma companies, bulk drug manufacturers, research scholars – all of them need chemicals. www.theenterpriseworld.com

Even the disposal of chemicals is a challenge and resource-heavy. Above all, the industry is not digitised. I thought I should create a platform

I am no techie. I started attending conferences and courses related to the application of technology in the Chemicals industry. This was to develop an understanding of what challenge I was bracing for. After spending some resources on acquainting myself, I hired a firm to develop my idea into a prototype. The prototype contained 10% of the functionality I wanted. I took it around, and the buyers and sellers showed some interest. 15

The next step for me was to come up with a full-fledged version of the platform. Along the way, I convinced Vijay Devarakonda to join me as the CEO. We met at a conference. Later, my mentor put me in touch with Vijay when I started looking for someone to support my idea on the technology front. On a pleasant evening, we both sat down for a talk. It lasted 6 hours and then Vijay agreed to join me. Vijay has a long career in product management and brings in a wealth of technical expertise. After Vijay came on board, there is no looking back. How did you get the traction during the first 2 or 3 years? After successful development of prototype In 2017, we launched Carbanio. After the launch, we started approaching sellers in person. All they knew about digital was the listing directories. However, the sourcing, orders, and logistics followed the same old paper-based systems. We educated them about the benefits of joining the platform. We explained what internal processes need to change to adopt Carbanio into their business. In firms where the processes are minimal, the adoption of the platform was easy. We demonstrated the product. We helped sign-ups. We set up a very strong contact centre to handhold the buyers and sellers. Two of the key challenges we faced in this period was with 16

supply-chain and payments. Most of the supply-chain players were concerned about the safety and legal aspects. We had to educate them in a big way. After a long trail of trial and error, we found our logistics and payment partners. Finding the payment partner took some time and effort.

product usage goes, we already have buyers and sellers inquiring from the neighbouring countries. How did you manage the funding?

Can you tell us something about Carbanio?

I started with my savings. Later, the family and friends pitched in. Last year we received seed investment. We will soon be looking for angel funding.

Carbanio enables chemicals manufacturers and buyers to buy and sell seamlessly.

When we add big data and AI to the existing mix, it will get even more exciting.

Carbanio takes care of logistics. All that the seller has to do is to package the chemicals as stipulated by us and maintain the quality of the chemicals.

What are the trends in the Chemicals sector?

For the buyer, we guarantee the purity of products, on-time delivery, refunds, and returns. Apart from many small and midsized companies, universities across India and IITs , NITs and IISERs are using our platform. One can donate chemicals or ask for chemicals that are not listed on the platform. Do visit our company page, Why Carbanio, to know more. What is your revenue model? Our revenues are based on commissions charged on sale volumes. Can you talk about the product roadmap? Today we are focussed on the Indian market. But we will extend our services to include global markets. We will also diversify the products and services. As far as

Globalisation and digitisation are two huge waves transforming this sector. No doubt, there are challenges. But these trends are here to stay. According to Statista, Asia accounted for 78.5% of the global B2B e-commerce gross merchandising volume (GMV) in 2017. Coupled with the fact that the younger, tech-savvy generation is taking over the stewardship of businesses, we are looking at a major upswing in the usage of platforms like ours. As with the other sectors, firms that embrace globalisation and digitisation will lead the industry. There is a catch here. Firms cannot overlay digitisation on top of the existing processes and routines. That calls for an overhaul. The sooner firms start their journey on this path, the higher are the chances to lead the industry.

Interview with The Enterprise World you faced? Started the business at the end of 1999 where the business model was to provide IT talent to the dotcom businesses. 5 months after the formation of the company there was the major dotcom burst in March 2000, which make us think who are target customers are going to be. We pivoted our services leveraging our capabilities in web application development and design towards software development companies that were traditionally building software for the desktop and traditional marketing agencies that needed to build a web presence for the businesses. • Which was that point that triggered the growth of the company? In 2002, 9 months after the 9/11 attack we almost went out of the business because of the back lash on outsourcing services outside the US. Our firm commitment to our business model and our confidence in our services made us relentlessly focussed and committed to the business. Despite economic and political challenges, we never look back we just bulldozed forward. • How have the company graphs changed since the foundation? The business has had its ups and downs based on economic and political changes over the last 20 years. We saw tremendous growth from 2002 to 2007 much like other companies experienced. We saw a flat growth or decline between 2007 and 2010 and since then, we have been continuously www.theenterpriseworld.com

experiencing growth. • What is the reason behind your company’s long-standing success? Our focus on core purpose, core values and maintaining the culture of the business along with focussing on our people, their personal and professional plans has given us a foundation of great talent and business leaders who are passionate about what they do and are able to work on the unique abilities to create a path of continuous growth and learning. Our people our culture our continuous desire to grow has been the reason for our long-standing success. The Services • What are the services the company focuses on? We provide infrastructure services around Cloud, DevOps and offshore, nearshore, onshore IT staffing services, and Digital Marketing services. Our focus on customer experience and ideal customer outcome has ensured our services provide the right value to our customers which differentiate us from our competitors. How do you decide to take the company a step further in terms of your products/services? We are very good at accessing the emerging technology trends. We

We constantly stay ahead of the curve on tech trends. Is there any new addition to the list of products/services? Anything exciting you would like to share? Currently, there is a lot of demand around business automation leveraging AI and machine learning. We are currently investing more in RPA, AI, machine learning and services around them for our customers. Leadership • What do you think are the responsibilities of an entrepreneur? An entrepreneur has superpowers to bring a change in society improving our daily lives by challenging the stethoscope and issues that concerned our community. Entrepreneurs’ responsibility is to leverage superpowers towards the betterment of the community and society as a whole. 19

They are risk-takers. They have comfort in continuous change and disruption. They don’t get led down, demotivated when they face a dead end. In fact, it challenges them to find a way and do it. • Can you please brief us about your professional experience? I started my career at Deloitte in the management consulting practice. Deloitte give me the foundation to understand unstructured business challenges and make structured meaning out of them. Deloitte gave me the foundation to even how professional companies run. The training and experiment allowed me to think and start ISHIR in IT services. My short stint of 16 months and now 20 years of ISHIR as an entrepreneur has shaped me into a well-seasoned business person. As an entrepreneur, I have learned a lot of stuff about myself as well as how to attract a great team of people to build a business. • What are the key achievements of your entrepreneurial journey? First and foremost, over the last 20 years, I have been able to discern my own unique abilities and appreciate the things I was not good at and to identify people who are good at the things I was not good at. rganizational effectiveness in simple words is the efficiency with which an organization is able to meet the objectives. This is important in order to achieve the set goals of the company. With organizational effectiveness, one can monitor how effectively an organization achieved its set quota of results, and how much waste is produced overall. Generally, the organizational effectiveness for any company is expressed in terms of how well is the net profitability as compared to the target profitability. Some additional details also include the growth data and the results of customer satisfaction surveys. These are few of the steps for organizational effectivenessLeadershipIt is the role of the leaders to define and refine the key processes, and also implement them with a daily discipline, in order to achieve higher performances. A leader must be able to translate his goals and visions into strategies and objectives. Leaders are meant to address three important questions regarding• Vision and Value • Strategy and Approach • Structure and Alignment

22

CommunicationCommunication is the key in any organization. Everything happens because there is a conversation. Good communication ensures the impact of your message, how consistent you are with your intentions. The performance culture is mostly dependent on what you say, the way you say it, and what are the circumstances under which you said it. Leaders must maximize their daily contributions to conversations. This ensures that the people are aligned around a common cause, they are focused and reduce the uncertainty. AccountabilityThe real job of the leaders is to translate vision and mission or the strategic direction to objectives, actions and accountabilities. To achieve accountability, sustainability, predictability, learning and renewal, leaders must bring discipline in their leadership process. Delivery-

and the efficiency will be at risk. So for the success of your organization, you need to make sure that your processes are focused on priority work, and that you are using much more effective techniques. This in turn will help you to boost the performances of your organization and you can also focus on improving operations for it. PerformanceAs the leader, it is your duty to hire the right people for the right jobs. Only then it will show in the performance of the team and ultimately the organization. There is no one size that fits all and not everyone is made to fit in the same. In the 'Performance' step of organizational effectiveness, it is the responsibility of the leader to hire, train and retain the perfect applicants. MeasurementThe application of these business processes is only useful when you can measure the success it brings.

Delivery is an important aspect of the organizational effectiveness. Your products and services will only be successful if they are delivered to your customers. If your organization has long and complex processes, it will encounter errors January 2020

www.theenterpriseworld.com

The main reason for our company’s long-standing success is that the team is bound to each other and the company by a common thread our love for animation. Vrinda Sood, CEO Says, “When we started in Delhi - we didn’t have leading industry personnel to start the company and to guide us through. I was fresh out of college for animation and so was my colleague. Together we were joined in by more animation loving

individuals and our passion for animation led to the growth of this beautiful company. We continue to live our dream by doing better and delivering an even better output each time and it is this commitment towards our job that we have found continued success.” The Services Being in the animation industry does not leave you with any scope, but to upgrade yourself and embrace new technology. Where it is important for us to keep upgrading our infrastructure and software's it is also very critical for us to reduce our production time and effort for more effective and affordable outcomes. Citrus Ink Studios Pvt. Ltd.’s forte is animation and VFX. They are committed to a very high-quality animation and VFX and they continually strive to deliver and match their quality to the animations available worldwide. The team at Citrus Ink Studios Pvt. Ltd. think that they still need to work a lot in many areas, however they are happy that their quality of work is acknowledged wherever they exhibit show reel internationally. The quality of work definitely sets them apart from many other studios.

The key achievements

The only way to remain ahead in terms of our products and services is to remain consistent and deliver quality in the promised time. There is no other mantra for success. The differentiated output in good quality can resolve a lot of issues in the service industry, however coming up with your own IP which may be recognized again by the international audience will be a proud moment.

In this journey, she has learned a lot, how to deliver in extreme pressure, how to work with a small team and deliver the unthinkable. The most important thing she has learned Is the micro and macromanagement of the business simultaneously, being an entrepreneur leaves with you little opportunity to delegate your responsibilities due to lack of resources to hire an HR to do the multiple tasks. At one point in business, she remembers working as the production coordination, CFO, accountant quality supervisor, etc. However, to reach where they are today being the most satisfying feeling. They have had some great releases in the last few years, garnering a tremendous response from the viewers and that makes it all worth it. Citrus Ink Studios’ Films for PVR, Paperboat, Hero, Honda, Arctic Fox, and some other international brands were well received and appreciated.

The professional experience

A Unique, creative-minded team

Vrinda has been able to establish a good connection with her clients, deliver the best to be able to have them come back to us without any hesitation. It has been great to be working with the best talent in the industry and help them realize their dreams while working together to achieve a common goal. The experience may have had many ups and downs, however all ups have taught us to be humble about our achievements and all the lows have pushed us to do better.

Giving an equal opportunity, respect, and creative freedom to the team has helped them a lot. They recognize each other’s passion for animation and the desire to do well and give their best - this is one thing which is common to all and hence easy to understand. By continuously doing better and working with different characters, environments and products without having any creative restriction have only brought the best out of each one.

26

Constant vigilance is a strategy to fulfill an everlasting need to not get complacent. It’s important to be vigilant to not lose track once in a while and not get complacent while doing what we love to do and especially when we are doing it every day and earning a living out of it. It is also important to be vigilant of the environment in this competitive world. Overwhelming client Experience For Citrus Ink Studios Pvt. Ltd., each client has been special and they have only grown with them. There is a client in particular in America who really encouraged them to do better and he being from one of the best animation companies in the world has really taught them in the process and help them work on the finer nuances of the characters. About the rat race in the market There is a rat race in the market, but only the best rat wins. You have to be the best and that’s the only way to stay ahead. To win the race it is not important to be noticed, important is running. And as Steve Jobs once said “We’re here to put a dent in the universe. Otherwise, why else even be here?” So put that dent and get noticed. Stay up with innovation and quality and you’ll be good.

I had been undermined and have heard so many things like why do you want to handle machinery and get lubricants and grease all over you? “It’s a man’s job to handle a core mechanical industry, it does not come naturally to women”. • How do you look after your employees? What makes your team unique? At work, I deal with the workforce, which is mainly men in their forties. But that has never been a problem. It is very important that the workforce should be equally enthusiastic about their work.

out.

• Can you tell us what your favourite book is? And your favourite part of the book (if any)?

Message to young girls! Never Give up! Prioritize! Give equal importance to your professional and family life. Find time for yourself. Focus on what you really like, your passion, ambition, dream big.

Recently, I have read “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey and I have learned a lot from it. It is an inspiring and very positive book and one of my favourites. • One person, who you admire the most? My father, Sachin Pise. I admire him the most. He rightfully balanced his personal and professional life. He has given us so many life lessons that I still look up to and cherish every day. Even though he is not with us, the positivity and his strength will always be with us. In a true sense, he is the backbone of our company and family.

What I follow is transparency in communication and I also ask them their views or ideas and inputs to promote continuous learning for them as well as for myself.

• Whose business story do you find the most inspiring?

I have learned that we should trust our team but have regular checks and accountability.

• Which is the most inspiring quote you have read?

• Is there any special experience with your clients you would like to highlight? So, we have an esteemed client from Malaysia who flew to India for a business trip in 2015. He had visited our factory and he was so impressed with the quality of lubricators and its functioning that he purchased 5 units of lubricators in just one go. www.theenterpriseworld.com

I also encourage girls and young women to challenge maledomination wherever it occurs. Just because a particular space has historically been occupied by men does not mean it should remain that way. With awareness and a little cheerleading, young women can become more confident participants in any male-dominated space.

I find Mr. Ratan Tata’s business story inspiring.

“However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at” • It’s a rat-race out there. How do you cope with that? Understand what you really want to achieve, set our priorities and work towards your goal. Just don’t follow the crowd. Explore the ways were others turn 39

his is a world where truly change is the only constant, and seldom this challenge of disruptive change is pretty hard for the big organizations to adapt to. Often very few companies are able to innovate successfully. The needs of the market change day in and day out, and it will continue to do so. With such recurring changes, the business managements will have to ďŹ nd new ways to adapt to these. What exactly is this disruptive change then? Disruptive change can be deďŹ ned as a change that is not localized and becomes irreversible eventually. This is the kind of change that 44

hallenge of

RUPTIVE affects a portion of the industry. Disruptive changes can be a result of the market trends that also cause a shift in the production that fit the customer demands. The best example of this is the introduction of the mobile phones. Mobile phones were introduced to replace the regular analogue phones. The first mobile phones had poor sound quality and were also expensive. With time, better phones came out in the market, innovations made way for better phones, or what we call today the ‘smart phones’.

early which allows the managers of businesses to deal with them, although, sometimes the change is not clear until the very last moment. Some of the common indicators for a disruptive change can be• Changes in government policies and regulations • Market availability of the products • Vast customer dissatisfaction • The public sentiments,

how well do they deal with the change and adapt to it. Some businesses get swallowed in during the process, while there are some businesses that emerge quite big. After all, the consequences of a change depend completely upon how people decide to take it. Some people try to ignore the situation and decide to do nothing about it, while some people play smart and minimize the disruption a change has caused by adopting to it as quickly possible. Dealing with a disruptive change is not as hard as it may seem. You just need to have a proper market analysis and also the analysis of the enterprise as a whole. As a business manager you need to understand the trend of the market and also the nature of the challenge. The next step is accepting the challenge and exploring new possibilities. To explore the new possibilities you need to consider the past and present trends to take into consideration the future possibilities. As the changes in the industries are ever-changing, changes in the market trends are inevitable. And for the business to succeed, it is the responsibility of the managers to identify the change indicators the earliest and be prepared to deal with it all.

And many more of such. It is evident that the challenge of disruptive change suffers lower performances initially in the mainstream market. The indicators of a disruptive change can be seen www.theenterpriseworld.com

This challenge of disruptive change can impact many companies and its effects depend on the preparedness of the companies,

Change will neither knock you on the door, nor will it give you a second chance. It is better that we be prepared. And as it goes, precaution is better than cure! 45

The Initial Challenges The initial challenges were many starting with: • Keeping the company bootstrapped until the product was ready, • Educating the customers of the benefits of AI in heavy industries, how it can make a difference to their unplanned downtime • Getting investment in an R&D company from Indian investors • Headhunting for the right talent to create the right team • Keeping the cost to a minimum • And most importantly to keep the patience & motivation when things didn’t go as planned Triggering Point for the growth of the Company Completing and demonstrating that structural health & machine health can be predicted by an autonomous system. Niladri Dutta CEO razor-sharp focus of taking the team together in converting ideas from drawing board to reality kept them humble and allowed to achieve the success which they are witnessing today. The Quality Offerings Tardid from day one has focussed on providing an Artificial Intelligence Platform, specifically, for the Heavy Industries. They have two distinct segments of offerings: Structural Health & Machine Health Management of Industrial assets ranging from Ships, Cement Mills, Oil & Gas pipelines, motors, pumps, LPG cylinders, etc. In today’s world, almost every other company is working in the space of AI but what makes Tardid stand out is how they use Physics aware models to solve real problems involving the assets’ health. prescriptive maintenance decision support system using scientific knowledge-based. In simple terms, Tardid is helping the industries to transition from systematic casual analysis (read human intuition based outcomes) to a Scientific knowledge-based approach, which ensures the decision taken is precise and the best option available. At Tardid, they have made a product that is vertical and horizontally scalable. They have stayed focused on offerings of AIbased SHM & MHM, however, they have been exploring various use cases for the same. Tardid started with one industry and have been gradually exploring other industries one at a time. About Entrepreneurship As an Entrepreneur, the most

important responsibility one has, to ensure to be able to pay salaries on time to our employees. Mr. Dutta says this as their team joined with faith and belief in the idea and most of them at much lower salaries than what they can get in other companies. Money may not be the best motivator but not having to worry about money come in the account on-time month on month ensures they can mentally give their best towards the organization. Entrepreneurship is a demanding space; it is all about balancing the responsibilities on the tight rope of dreams. Vigilance is a must need. Vigilance isn't intrusion of privacy; it is about being proactively aware of any untoward situation. We can avoid major catastrophes if one is vigilant. From Tardid’s perspective, if we are vigilant towards our industrial assets, we can avoid unplanned downtime, it will help 51

towards Health, Safety and Environmental compliance and most importantly it can save lives of both humans and machines. The professional experience Mr. Dutta has been in the industry for over the past 25 years. He was involved in the development and deployment of telecom protocol stacks in the USA during my start of a career. He eventually moved into OSS BSS Stacks for transactional business for Telecom Industry, helping companies build products as per the global market demands and needs. Over the years he graduated to business leadership positions, handling both technology/product developments and market development globally. The Key Achievements As an Entrepreneur, He feels his best achievement is that he has been able to develop a very strong and committed team, who are dedicated, trustworthy, dependable and most importantly willing to take their responsibilities towards the organization as their ownership. A team that is like a very big family, working towards a common goal of achieving excellence beyond comparison. Tardid has also achieved, its share of recognition from various organizations, some of the key ones are listed as under: • ABP News & Brand Excellence “Excellence in Engineering, Research & Development Science 2019” • ABP News & Brand Excellence “Emerging Brand Award 2019” • Certificate of Recognition, Tardid Technologies Pvt Ltd, has been selected as FINALIST for

It is a humble organization with no frills as bigger counterparts, but they do take care of employees by enabling them with knowledge and experience in a very niche area. On the first day of joining, they promise their employees that they don’t guarantee them lifetime employment with Tardid but will make them employable for the rest of their lifetime, if they choose to grow out of Tardid in future. Tardid’s team is truly unique, where most of the members are Ph.D. and M. Tech, who has joined them out of their passion for Technology. Almost all team members are headhunted and are given the task in their area of interest. Mr. Dutta said, “one of our key members left his comfortable job in Norway to pursue his passion with Tardid. The energy of our team keeps us pushing ourselves even further to achieve better and bigger success for Tardid.”

Mr. Dutta Says that “For Tardid, every client has been unique and an experience in itself, however, I would like to highlight our experience with the defense. The first time we were on the asset, it felt intimidating by the sheer size of the asset and complexity involved in providing the desired results. We knew if we could meet the military standard, the commercial line of business becomes smooth thereon. Thus with a lot of courage, we started working. On successful completion, the entire landscape changed for us. We had managed to get success with one of the most difficult customers in the most tiring environment, it gave us a belief, that yes we can and there has been no looking back since then.” The Rat Race in The Market Tardid chooses to be in a place where the rat race hasn't started yet. So there are many AI focussed companies but very few are focusing on the heavy industries, moreover, even if someone starts today, it takes a while in these industries to provide a solution. Surely, in few years Tardid will have “me-too” companies claiming to be similar to what they are today, but Tardid believes that there will be space for everyone. So Tardid keeps themselves focussed on what they have to achieve, and let others bother about the race to catch them up.

E- commerce

An Endless sky for business opportunities

O

ver the time everything changes. Similarly, our way of shopping and doing business is also changing. And we no longer need to go to the nearby furniture store to buy a chair. Because you can do this work sitting at home with one click. During 1960, businesses began sharing their business documents with other companies using the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). Then in 1979, the American National Standards Institute formulated universal standards for sharing business documents, known as ASC X12.

After this, the birth of electronic companies like eBay, Amazon etc. started. And the e-commerce revolution started. The technology started with document sharing is now in our hands. And we can buy everything available online from any corner of the world with one click. This is the real strength of e-commerce. But, during this historical sequence of events, many events took place and new platforms, tools, technology emerged. In the last few days, e-commerce i.e. electronic commerce has been in the headlines. Due to this, while the draft of the national e-commerce policy remained in the news, on the other hand, online shopping company Flipkart was acquired by American company 64

Walmart. On the one hand, where the craze of online shopping is increasing in the country, on the other hand, consumers are also suffering from it. In view of these problems of the people, the government has decided to bring a national e-commerce policy to take effective steps on this. For this, the government has formed a task force, which has prepared a draft on the e-commerce policy and submitted it to the government. Through this article, we will try to find answers to many questions, such as - Who says e-commerce, what are its benefits, what are the challenges and what is the way forward in it? So let’s consider all these aspects one by one. Actually, electronic commerce is called e-commerce in short form. It is a way of doing business online. It involves the purchase and sale of goods and services via the Internet through an electronic system. In today’s era, Internet is one of the most important aspects for e-commerce. It presents many opportunities for the consumer as well as business along with the infrastructure. Constraints like time and distance do not matter much to consumers by its use. The Business to Business Model. Under this, a company sells goods to another company or firm. Under this, companies or firms come who

buy goods for their own use or buy raw materials and make goods from it. The second type of model is B2C i.e. Business to Consumer. Under this, the consumer purchases goods directly from a company. Similarly, the third type of model is C2C i.e. Consumer to Consumer. Under this, the consumer directly contacts the consumer. Companies have no role in this. The fourth type of model is C2B i.e. Consumer to Business. In this, the company directly contacts the consumer. Similarly, in view of the increasing demand and supply of goods in the market, two types of models are now becoming more popular in online shopping of e-commerce, the first is - Market Place Model. In this model, online companies provide only one platform from where the consumer can buy goods according to his needs. For example, Amazon, Snapdeal, Flipkart etc. Similarly, the second is the inventory model. Under this, online companies sell goods on this platform through their company. Alibaba’s name comes at the top in this. It is important to note that there is always a feeling of doubt in the minds of consumers about online shopping whether the product they have bought will be right or not. January 2020

This year, the government also received complaints against a number of e-commerce websites, in which the consumer said that he was given delivery of some other goods in exchange for the goods he had booked or that the goods were defective. Similarly, many times people have complaints about where they should complain against it. On the one hand, where there is a lack of any concrete law about it, on the other hand, there is also a lack of awareness among the people. Due to lack of clear rules and laws, some challenges may also arise in front of small and medium industries. They will not be able to face these big companies in this blind race of the market. In such a situation, the possibility of unemployment is also increasing. People have already expressed concern about safety in the matter of online shopping. They believe that these companies are collecting their data, which is a matter of concern. Similarly, online shopping is also a problem by cloning people’s credit or debit cards and withdrawing money from their bank balance or hacking the

www.theenterpriseworld.com

banking data by hackers. Not only this, some big companies working in the field of online shopping are now planning to deliver goods by drone, on which the lines of concern on the face of the government and people are clearly visible. Today, the business associated with the e-commerce sector in the country is about $ 25 billion. It is estimated that in the next 10 years the trade will be around 200 billion dollars. Now the question arises that what is the reason for such rapid growth in this area? Let us tell you that on one hand, the country’s population is increasing rapidly, on the other hand, smartphones and data tariffs are becoming cheaper. Not only this, increasing network connectivity is also one of the reasons. In view of all these reasons, experts believe that this is an opportunity for the country, but the problem is that

there is no clear policy in the country regarding e-commerce. The government needs to bring a clear policy in view of the increasing possibilities in this area. The way e-commerce sector companies are collecting people’s data has increased people’s concern. Justice Srikrishna Committee constituted for data security has also submitted its report to the government. Overall, the time has come for the government to consider it.
