ABOUT US Vancouver Etsy Co empowers creative entrepreneurs by providing resources, education, and opportunities to grow. The goal is to create a community of inclusive and supportive Designers, Creatives and Makers from the greater Vancouver area who are interested in sharing knowledge, building their business and making meaningful community connections.
Planning Team Born and raised in the Vancouver area, Val never thought she would be a creative/maker. Armed with her degree in Criminology from SFU, she worked at Dress for Success Vancouver until she welcomed her first child. From there, the creative (and entrepreneurial) bug hit, and she started her Etsy shop, Veespoke. Since then, she dove head first into the craft world, participating in markets (some of her favourites include Got Craft and Portobello West), then organizing markets as part of the Vancouver Etsy Co. She’s passionate about empowering creatives and makers in their business journey by providing opportunities and a community for them to be part of and thrive in.

A born-and-raised Vancouverite who made her mark in the craft world with her (now retired) knitwear business. Anita now spends her time as a consumer and cheerleader of local and handmade goods and services. She claims she is “efficient because I’m lazy” and therefore a pro at streamlining processes to just make things work better. After many years of being a vendor and customer, she has a keen eye for in-person market displays, online product photos, effective lookbooks. All proceeds from totebag sales and half from ticketed events are split between the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and the BC Children's hospital. To date we have raised over $2600.
We visited the GVFB at their distribution centre and learned more how they operate!
KIDS ZONE Saturday November 25, 2023 UBC Geering Up is an outreach organization with a mission to bring STEAM learning to youth in a fun, hands-on and interactive setting across BC. We are excited to be part of the Etsy Market this year and are looking to interact with children through three activities primarily! From learning about circuitry and electricity by building a Lumos Wand to diving into the physics of sound waves through a visual demonstration kit, science and engineer concepts will come alive at our booth! For those interested in tech, we will have a oneon-one demo that will introduce how to code robots. When necessary, there will some take-home activities for the youth to learn at their own pace. See you there!

He loves to build creative objects and thinks of ideas even cooler ideas than mom’s. It has been a tradition in the family to handcraft Christmas ornaments and Timmy does that with a mix of natural materials and colourful mediums.

Nature and animals are both important to me and I usually try to incorporate these themes into my art. Outside of school, I also enjoy going to my triathlon club, taekwondo, and gymnastics. I sold my pieces for donations to support my favourite charities - BCSPCA and BabyGoRound.

How did you come up with your business name?My business name is a combination of my name - Amanda and the word anatomical. Tell us about how your product is made. What is your favourite part? For the textbook organ prints, the originals are made with charcoal and led drawn directly onto textbook pages. I create the textbook pages based on vintage anatomy books, with a specific page number representing a fun fact about the organ drawn.

Introduce yourself and your business Hi hello!! My name is Amy and I make teddy bears! Benji Bear is a representation of the joy and innocence of when we were young and when life wasn’t complicated. I created Benji to be pocketsized so he can accompany you day-to-day, and as a small reminder that there is joy in the little things around us everyday. Amies Studio is a labour of my love for the little things, and there is no better way to show it than by slowly and intentionally hand-stitching each charming little friend. Also, who doesn’t like teddy bears? How did you get started? I was a stressed-out university student and started creating the goofiest looking things to make myself laugh amidst what life was throwing at me. As it turns out, other people also smile when they see my creations, citing how silly, whimsical, nostalgic, or even comforting they are. From that point on, Amies Studio became a home for all the silly little things that bring myself and others that little bit of joy we need everyday to keep us going. How do you stay creative? Meeting other creatives! It is always a treat to chat with others and see their own creative process when it comes to their crafts. In that same vein, seeing their crafts itself is inspiring! It challenges me to create something that is equally inspiring. Although, I usually end up creating something silly instead haha.

We create delicious latte & smoothie blends that use matcha, mushrooms and herbs to naturally support energy and combat stress inconvenient ways. How did you get started? I used to make herbal blends for energy and stress for myself and then, for my friends. One day I decided to put them up on our website and see if other people we interested and they were a hit! Tell us about how your product is made. What is your favourite part? A random idea or personal experience usually leads to a test blend. A lot of research and development goes in to creating a new blend. That means a blend goes through many iterations until we have found the perfect blend. My favourite part is most certainly the moment I know I have nailed it. What do you wish customers knew about you or your business? I wish customers knew the lengths we go to vett our suppliers and create our product blends. Ensuring blends are effective is paramount, it takes a lot of developement.

As I was able to grow my online following, I realized there was a market for my style and unique vision, so I pivoted to creating my own designs, comics, and illustrations, now using not only markets, but my online shop, and Patreonbased subscription club, to share what I do with the world How do you stay creative? My creative inspiration comes from both inside, and outside literally - I find myself equally inspired by the world I find alone (enjoying the work of other creatives, consuming fresh media like TV and books), as well as outside, where an active lifestyle and the gorgeous scenery of BC sparks a fire in me.

CATHY, VANCOUVER Introduce yourself and your business Hello, I’m Cathy and I’m a new mama to my 19 month old and the founder/owner of BaseLayer Apparel. I started building the idea and the business when I was pregnant with my little girl. One and a half years later we finally launched last year. How did you get started? I never realized how uncomfortable bras were until we didn’t have to wear one during the pandemic but when things started to open up again, I was torn. I hated the feeling of wearing them but felt like I needed something that still gave me some shape at a nice dinner. I spent hours and hours researching how to start, from learning about tech packs, pattern making and, most of all, about the realities of the textile industry. I reached out to my networks for referrals after a disappointing and costly Fiverr experience with a freelance textile designer. Eventually I was connected with our designer who works with numerous well known home grown favourite brands. From there, I brought in samples and styles of various bras and we worked on merging the best features of each white eliminating other annoying elements.

How did you come up with the name for your Etsy shop? Etsy only allows a shop name that contains up to 20 letters. bethandoliviahandmade was too long so I went with bethandoliviasmarket.

Boey Art Studio BOEY, VANCOUVER
Introduce yourself and your business Boey Leung grew up in the city of Hong Kong. Growing up, she attended art classes which included oil painting, figure painting, animal sketching and watercolour painting for 11 years during her childhood up until high school. She later moved to Burnaby to study at Simon Fraser University where she graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. She rediscovered her love for art in 2020 while finishing her undergraduate degree and from there began painting and self-learning ocean resin art. Her dayto-day work focuses on functional art created by chemical and mechanical tools that reflect her love of engineering and sciences. How did you get started? When I was in school, I really needed a hobby to release stress from a stressful engineering student life, and I end up love this kind of art and it becomes my main career. I can also apply knowledge I leant from school into the business, such as buildings some machines and tools for laser engraving or cutting wood, programming for 3D design and printing. How do you stay creative? I have struggled to "speak" with my art. I love the Ocean and nature so much and used to paint nature very often during my childhood. I use nature to inspire all my one-of-a-kind unique art pieces. When I create art, my goal is to capture snapshots of a moment in the Ocean. I have both furthered my techniques in my favorite media and explored different, new possibilities.

ANDREA & GAEL, VANCOUVER Introduce yourself and your business We're Andrea & Gael, owners of Catcouver. We're a cat sitting company that branched out in the craft world two years ago with our Cat Advent Calendar. This year we're going even further! Giving back is also in our DNA. With every sale and service we offer, we donate to VOKRA, a Vancouver-based cat rescue. As we're always surrounded by cats, by either fostering or cat sitting, we've seen everything that cats can do, what they like and what they don't, as well as for their humans too. All of this is inspiring and dictating the way we're going with all our different products. How did you come up with your business name? Of course, I was eager to take the task on and try it out, after all I had experience with knots from my elementary days making hemp bracelets. Introduce yourself and your business I'm Vivian, originally from Hong Kong and now residing in Vancouver for two years. Inspired by the creativity of Japanese and Korean candle making, I craft unique, fun-shaped candles, often drawing inspiration from my love for food. Some are shaped through hand-kneading, while others use molds and are hand-painted for a lifelike appearance. These candles are designed not only to be funny and attractive but also to provide a therapeutic and comforting ambiance, able to surprise and delight anyone. How did you come up with your business name? I find therapeutic solace in the ambient light of burning candles, which is why I named my business "Little Candle Matters." Don't underestimate the comforting power a small flame can bring, especially when the candle is fun-shaped, it is even more comforting. Tell us about how your product is made. What is your favourite part? It all starts with selecting the right wax for the specific design I have in mind. After that, I add colors to the wax. The next step is shaping the wax, either using molds for certain designs or employing a special hand-kneading method. My favourite part is hand-kneading. In this step, I get to shape the wax when it's soft and malleable. This allows for endless creativity and ensures that each candle is entirely unique.

Originally my business name was in Irish (Is Maith Liom Crochet), meaning ‘I like to crochet’. As my business grew into a screen printing focus I wanted something more fitting. Made On Cambie was inspired by my life being based on Cambie Street for years now. I love this city and wanted to bring that into my business. Tell us about how your product is made. What is your favourite part? Each bag design has been individually screen printed, using my hand drawn designs. My small business is a tumbler business where I make double walled stainless steel tumblers with various different designs on them. These tumblers are good for both hot and cold drinks for up to at least 6 hours. I also make snowglobes tumblers and glass cups which are popular with cold and iced drinks. All of my products are all locally handmade, created, and designed by me. All of my tumblers are reusable which is great as you can take with you wherever you go. How did you come up with your business name? I wanted a business name that included part of my name in it. Since I wanted the initials MM as part of my logo, Makes by Mali sounded nice and it fitted the idea that the products were made by me. Best thing about your business? It gives me an opportunity to be creative and meet people at the same time. I never thought meeting people (other makers and/or customers) will be a part of my small business. People tell me all the time the story of the first time they had an alfajor somewhere in Latin America or how it was such a special gift, but only lasted 5min because they finished them in one go. haha What's your favorite part of being an Etsy Seller? Being part of a group of like minded vendors and pushing quality over quantity over all.

It started in 2020 during the pandemic in Ontario, we relocated to British Columbia last year. As the sole operator, I create each item carefully ensuring that every piece reflects simplicity and craftsmanship that defines Thinkthankay. thinkthankay pursues the long lasting items that is ages together with users and holds their memory and time. How did you come up with your business name? The name 'Thinkthankay' is derived from the fusion of the words 'think' and 'thank,' combined with my name, Kay. This choice of name reflects that I am grateful for being true to myself and appreciating the blessings in my life. Full of thankfulness! What’s the most challenging part of your business? Since the leather's natural characteristics, the leather is not always same–even they are the same leather sometimes the color is different, inconsistent texture, dark spots, bug bites scar and scratches on the hide, I try to use it because it gives uniqueness but some of them I cannot use which leads to loss. Also reducing the time it takes to create the items is the most challenging part.

The difference can be tasted in the real flavour. How did you come up with your name? To The Next Journey was initially our travel blog over a decade ago. It documented our wanderlust tales, rattling around in a 60s series Land Cruiser, cooking and eating along the way. Tell us about how your product is made? I use the ingredients listed, cook up batches of hot sauce, put it in to bottles and label them. My favourite part is transforming what are relatively ordinary ingredients in to a unique flavour profile to stimulate the olfactory system.

I started with the infinity scarf; I love the simplicity and functionality of the scarf but wasn't finding it in the fabrics I liked - so I solved my own problem! Since then my line of scarves has grown to invlude blanket and triangle scarves How did you come up with your name? Veespoke is a play on the word Bespoke, "made for a particular customer", but changed up the "Be'" for "Vee" for Valerie. Best thing about your business? Seeing someone I don't know wearing one of my scarves!
Victoria Yahara Studio VICTORIA, NORTH VANCOUVER
Introduce yourself and your business My name is Victoria and I live in North Vancouver with my husband and our two young boys. I am a Linocut printmaker who is inspired by Canadian wildlife, Motherhood and the botanical symbolism from the Victorian Language of flowers. All of which is reflected in my linocut series that uses flowers to depict different themes such as Love, Friendship & Motherhood. How did you get started? I became very inspired to create during my maternity leave after the birth of each of my sons. Both times I wanted to honour my new baby. With my first son I created my Canadian Wildlife Alphabet tea towel / wall hanging. For my second son, I honoured my breastfeeding journey with a Linocut print of a silhouette of Mother and Baby. Tell us about how your product is made. What is your favourite part? I design and draw illustrations that I transfer to a Lino block and delicately carve the image out. I then ink the block & print it onto watercolour paper with my small hand-operated printing press. Everything is hand done from start to finish by myself. The first test print of a new block is always thrilling! It’s the first time you see all your hard work of carving come to life. It is also where you see details that need finalizing.

I believe in crocheting high quality items that are long-lasting as well as stylish and well designed. How did you come up with your name? The name WalkingDot was inspired by a quote from artist Paul Klee, “A line is a dot that went for a walk.” The idea for the name stemmed from memories and memorable design, which led me to think about stories, communication, connections, and finally, paths, lines, and dots. How did you get started? I learned how to crochet from my Oma when I was a child, but didn’t get back into it until my niece was born in 2013 and I crocheted her a baby blanket. In 2014, I had a bad experience at a graphic design internship and crocheting brought me out of a deep depression.

Introduce yourself and your business Hi! My name is Julia, and I'm the founder of Wayward Pineapple Creations. I love to crochet cute and cuddly stuffed animals, and they make perfect gifts for both children and adults. I also sell my crochet patterns online, and offer a range of crochet kits that include everything you need to teach yourself how to make a crochet toy! Best thing about your business? This year I started making finished toys to sell at markets, and I love seeing the excitement on a child's face when they pick up my creations. At my first market this summer, a tiny toddler bought a large stuffed flamingo I made and immediately wrapped her arms around it. The flamingo was almost bigger than her, and the image they made together absolutely adorable. Moments like this make all the work worth it! What’s your studio like? My studio is my living room, and it is full of yarn! I have a big pegboard on the wall covered in yarn, multiple shelves and bins full of yarn, and at any given time my carpet is covered in multi-coloured yarn fluff that sheds off when I'm crocheting. I love how colourful it is, even if I feel like I'm living in a yarn store at times!
West End Wicks EMILY, VANCOUVER
Introduce yourself and your business We are West End Wicks, a local homemade candle business with a penchant for local wildlife! Our duo consists of Emily who creates the scents and pours the candles and Kevin who designs the artwork and branding. Our passion for nature and the environment inspired the names and scents of our candles. Each candle is named after a bird that can be spotted in the Lower Mainland. We also give back to organizations working to support our wildlife and donate $1 from each candle to the Wildlife Rescue of BC. How did you get started? Finding a creative outlet to pursue during quarantine in March 2020 led to the creation of West End Wicks. Emily has always loved the way candles enhance the feeling of a space through the fragrance and warmth they bring. Designing candles allowed her to experiment and create a product that embodies the environment around her. While spending time at home during COVID, she began to notice all of the different birds that would land on our balcony. The excitement they would bring to the day inspired the names of each candle. Best thing about your business? The uninhibited experimentation. Neither of us comes from a business background or has entrepreneurial roots. Every decision; from scent development, to staging a photo shoot, to the type of labels we use develops from discussions between us. Although it can be draining at times, we enjoy the successes and challenges that come from our collaborative creative process. West End Wicks started as a creative outlet, and it hasn’t strayed far from that.
