What will I learn in this subject?

In CSPE you will learn how to be active citizen in your community, inside and outside of school. We will explore the following topics: » What does it mean to be an active citizen? » What are human rights and why do they matter? » What is democracy and why should we protect it? » What can I do to protect the environment? » How is Irish society changing and growing? CSPE no t only teaches you how to care but to TAKE ACTION!

How will I learn in this subject?

Being active in the CSPE classroom is very important. Students learn in lots of different ways and CSPE embraces that through: » Individual work, pair work or group work » Discuss and debate topics in class » Creating posters to raise awareness of important issues in school » Researching different topics to find out more information » Keeping a digital learning log of the various topics you cover in class » Playing games and taking part in quizzes » Inviting guest speakers to speak to your class or the school » Organising mock elections and campaigns for issues that matter TO YOU! » Organising different fundraisers to raise money for charities that are important to you and your classmates

Is learning this subject in CPS anything like what I did in Primary School?

CSPE will build on what you learned about yourself and the wider world in Primary school. It will also build upon what you learned about environmental awareness and issues in subjects such as Geography and Science.

How will this subject be useful to me?

CSPE teaches you how your community, society, and the wider world works. When you leave school and can vote, CSPE provides you with the foundation of knowledge to vote for the things you care about. CSPE is very helpful if you want to study politics, sociology, international relations and many other courses.
