What will I learn in this subject?

Learning Spanish at CPS will give you a good base so that you can express yourself about your family, friends, house, pets, daily routine, hobbies, numbers, weather, food, and the culture of Spain, Central and South America.

How will I learn in this subject?

You will learn through understanding, speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Spanish. You will also learn how to self- evaluate your own progress in your learning journey through the Junior Cycle and find the best ways to learn for your individual skills and talents.

Is learning this subject in CPS anything like what I did in Primary School?

In Spanish class you will learn through pair work, group work and actively participate at all times in class. We use many digital aids, for example videos, games and activities designed to make learning easy and fun.

How will this subject be useful to me?

Speaking Spanish opens doors to learning and understanding new people, the culture, film, music, food and festivities of the Spanish speaking countries. You will be able to communicate better with the locals while you are travelling in Spain, Central and South America. Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world and approximately 500 million people speak it as their first language. So, there are many new Spanish speaking friends and experiences to be made!

Assessment?

In the new Junior Cycle programme for Spanish, every pupil will create a Language Portfolio with short class assignments, and you will be learning how to present short projects in Spanish through your Classroom Based Assessments. We also have oral, listening, written, and reading exams three times a year so that you can excel in this subject and get the best grade possible.
