SUBJECT: English
What is this subject all about at Senior Cycle?
English at Leaving Certificate will build on what you have learned at JC level in terms of content and skill. The content is broader. Some examples are the study of poets’ lives and their work, a comparative study where multiple texts are analysed via their similarities and differences, Shakespearean drama and the study of language such as narrative and informative language. Some interesting skills you’ll learn are comprehension skills, writing for different purposes, composing skills and analytical and interpreting skills.
Will learning this subject at Senior Cycle be different to what I studied at Junior Cycle?
It is not very different; it will build on prior knowledge taken from JC level and more detailed longer essays will be required.
