Preparation for the World of Work
SUBJECT: Career Guidance
What is this subject all about at Senior Cycle?
In Coláiste Pobail Setanta 6th Year students have one Career Guidance class per week. The aim of this class is to prepare our students for life after secondary school. Students will acquire knowledge about all options available to them including applying for third level colleges and universities, exploring study abroad options, apprenticeships, grants and supports available for them to apply for. Students will also have the opportunity to prepare for interviews, learn how to deal with stress and become responsible for their own academic tracking so that they can be realistic about their plans for the future. These classes are with qualified Guidance Counsellors and our students are supported every step of the way. Every 6th Year student will automatically receive two one-to-one appointments with a Guidance Counsellor to discuss and explore their options in detail. Students can request more appointments with the Guidance Counsellor as required. Throughout the year the Guidance Department will keep parents and students informed of important dates and events which are beneficial to 6th Year students when planning for life after Coláiste Pobail Setanta. These events include Higher Options, College/University Open Day and Presentations, deadlines for applications…etc. Students and parents are encouraged to contact us with any queries they may have on guidance@cpsetanta.ie
