name Ben Paris evokes a storied Seattle history. It refers to a successful businessman and the landmark Ben Paris Cigars, Lunch & Cards establishment, which was housed in the same location steps from Pike Place Market as today’s Ben Paris.

Ben Paris, the man, was reknowned locally as a sportsman, entrepreneur and conservationist. Along with establishing several businesses, Paris advocated against commercial fishing traps in the Puget Sound and fought for the legalization of selling beer on Sunday.

“We didn’t open Nue to preach some abstract culinary philosophy about what we think people should eat. We're not about saving an ancient approach to cooking for future generations, nor are we interested in teaching the world about the benefits of some high-tech, new one. As artists and chefs, Nue is about sharing what excites us. Freakishly awesome food.”

“As avid travelers, and insatiable eaters, we set out to build the same kind of casual gathering, food and drink place we consistently frequent while abroad, but for whatever reason, can never quite find back home. As seemingly diverse as they are, the divey tascas of the Iberian Peninsula, the explosively colorful markets that blanket Asia, the smoky outdoor grills found throughout the Balkans and the vivid town squares of South America all share a lot in common: simple, unassuming, always unique, conspicuously approachable, often times surprising and most importantly, insanely delicious.”

“We’re not trying to be "Fusion", nor are we claiming that our offerings are verbatim "Street Food", "Farm to Table", "Craft" or any other trendy buzzword of the day. What we are building is a space that allows our staff and our guests an opportunity to experiment and explore, to both work with and taste new flavors and foods without any pretense or culinary douchiness. We’re building a place where we want to hang out, making the foods we love to eat and we're confident you will too.”

WILDWOOD Distillery

The Face of America Magazine
Erik Liedholm Master Distiller & Owner

Since 2014, Wildwood Spirits has taken pride in producing spirits with the highest quality ingredients, many of which are organically grown and locally sourced from their backyard in the Pacific Northwest– sometimes from founder Erik Liedholm’s literal backyard.

The Face of America Magazine

Kur (pronounced ‘cure’) gin is made in the London Dry Gin style and is produced with Washington heirloom variety red winter wheat. A backbone of classic juniper aromas and flavors are emphasized with the subtle citrus of Seville oranges, as well as Douglas Fir and Braeburn apples from co-founder Erik Liedholm’s backyard.

The Face of America Magazine
The Face of America Magazine

Rendition, a five-year straight rye whiskey, is one of the newest (yet oldest!) additions to Wildwood Spirits Co.’s portfolio. Finished in barrels that previously housed the distillery’s award-winning bourbon, The Dark Door, Rendition unites aromas of citrus, cinnamon and baking spice with flavors of white pepper, mocha and vanilla for a lengthy, rich finish. This Whiskey is incredibly smooth and refined and is our favorite spirit made by Wildwood Spirits. Highly recommended!

The Face of America Magazine
The Face of America Magazine

Wildwood Spirit Co.’s versatile Solgud (Swedish for “sun god”) captures those rays in a sweet and spicy liqueur. Made with the zest of Seville oranges and fennel seed, it is aged in their used bourbon barrels for three months. With hints of citrus and vanilla mingled with flavors of anise, it’s perfect as a float on your favorite margarita or on its own for a delightful digestif. Also delicious with cocktails and surprisingly good paired with a fine cigar.

The Face of America Magazine

In the spirit of farmers from colonial times, who maximized local crops by making distillates from excess fruit and grain, Wildwood Spirits sources nearly all of our ingredients from local farms. Nearly all of the produce used for distilling at Wildwood Spirits Co. — from cereal grains (corn, barley, and wheat) to Braeburn apples, to Douglas fir– is grown in Washington state. All these spirits are handcrafted with love in small batches in Bothell and Ballard, WA.

Gaslight INN A SOPHISTICATED AND REFINED PROPERTY

The Seattle Gaslight Inn was originally built in the early 1900s for Paul Singerman, a prominent Seattle businessman. The home is an excellent example of Craftsman-style architecture, with a wide porch, low-pitched roofline, and overhanging eaves. The interior features rich, dark colors, with oak trim work and paneling. This historic site was granted landmark status by the city of Seattle in 2015.

In addition to the eight guest rooms, the inn has a number of common areas for guests to enjoy. Relax by the oak fireplace in the spacious living room, or enjoy a good book in the library.

Outside, you can take a walk by our koi pond, or enjoy an afternoon swim in the in-ground heated swimming pool, surrounded by a spacious poolside patio and comfortable chaise lounges.

3 years ago the current owners decided to take over a 50 year old Bed and Breakfast business and bring it to a airbnb. Cosy, charming and very well location from the public transportation it could be a resting hub for your trip in Seattle or a destination in itself.

What ever you chose you will feel at home.

The Face of America Magazine

The Seattle Gaslight Inn is located in Seattle's coolest neighborhood: Capitol Hill. In the late 80s and early 90s, Capitol Hill was the epicenter of grunge music. Today, it's packed with unique art galleries, boutiques, restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. (One of our favorite establishments is Bakery Nouveau, the finest French bakery in the city and is only 3-minute walk from the inn.)

BLUEGRASS MASS AT CARNEGIE HALL

The Face of America Magazine

Commissioned by Mike and Kay McCarthy, The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass blends the classical mass, modern choral sophistication, touching poetry, and traditional bluegrass instrumentation into an exhilarating musical experience. The mass was premiered by Monroe Crossing with VocalEssence, a professional choral group led by Philip Brunelle. Mark Anderson of Monroe Crossing notes, “It’s a classical piece of choral music that’s a stunningly beautiful work of art. It has given us the opportunity to work with some great choirs and conductors, and to bring bluegrass music to a classical audience for the very first time.”

The Face of America Magazine
The Face of America Magazine

“To bring the solemnity of the classical choir-based mass together with the down home sparkle of bluegrass—now there’s an assignment for a composer! My highest hope is that listeners coming from one tradition, classical or bluegrass (and perhaps dubious about the other), might discover something new and wonderful in the combination.

Composing the music for The World Beloved has given me the chance to write cheery sacred music—imagine! And it has brought me back to roots I only barely remember.

As I listened to the father of bluegrass, Bill Monroe, from whom the terrific band Monroe Crossing takes its name, I recalled the music I heard while visiting grandma and grandpa in Blue Earth, Minnesota, many years ago. It was country music with a church flavor that told stories and it came out of a scratchy old record player. Grandma would not have allowed dancing but under the table I tapped my toes.”

MARIEBELLE: MADE IN NYC LUXURY CHOCOLATES WITH SOUL, LOVE, AND GENEROSITY

“Life is all about the pleasure and happiness we find in food, art and beauty.”
-
The Face of America Magazine

Maribel Lieberman is the founder of MarieBelle New York, and to this day, its most inspired doyenne. From her first chocolate shop in Soho, Maribel’s passion for discovering and sharing new flavors, has seen her continually reinvent how we enjoy chocolate. Lieberman lives in Soho in New York City with her daughter Angelina and her lovely pug, Willow.

The Face of America Magazine

Maribel’s passion for confections started at an early age when as an eight-year-old child, she would make sugar candies and sell them to neighborhood children in her native Honduras. Her New York story began at the Parsons School of Design where Maribel’s love for fashion and design would take her on a jaunt in the fashion industry, followed by five years running her own elegant catering company – Maribel’s Gourmet Cuisine. This paved the way for her discovery of chocolate as a lifelong passion.

The Face of America Magazine

Maribel’s first New York City storefront, Lunettes et Chocolat, was a shop focused on both designer chocolates and glasses. Following this, Maribel’s bug for entrepreneurism led her to open her pride and joy, MarieBelle New York’s Soho shop, in 2002. And the future is equally delicious with the addition of Cacao Market in Brooklyn and the Japanese transplants of both stores in Kyoto.

The Face of America Magazine

Maribel’s advances as a female chocolatier have not gone unnoticed, with Inc. Magazine naming MarieBelle New York as one of “the fastest growing private companies in America” in 2012 and Oprah Winfrey herself giving accolades to her products in her highly coveted “Oprah’s Favorite Things.”

The afternoon tea is an exceptional experience: Delicious food, sophisticated atmosphere, beautiful plating, attentive service, everything contributes to a moment of pure pleasure.

Our favorite drink is the hot white chocolate: a beyond delicious drink. This drink alone worth the trip to Mariebelle store and cafe in Soho on Broome Street.
