A LETTER FROM STEVE D. WHITAKER, PH.D. HEAD OF SCHOOL
Dear Royal Families,
Our Annual Report is a time to reflect on what the Lord has done at The First Academy. It is also a time to give an account of His faithfulness and our stewardship of His generosity. We have been blessed beyond measure. I am so thankful for the partnership with your family and the dedication of the faculty and staff who invest in our students.
Last year, we focused on the theme In His Image. This was such an impactful theme because it focused on clarifying our purpose, that we are His and that He has a calling for our lives. This theme gave us direction - that we are to walk toward Him so that we can spend eternity with Him. When we understand that we are made in His image, it transforms our relationship with God, with ourselves, and with others.
It was through this theme that we were able to thrive as a school community. Members of the Class of 2022 were accepted to over 100 colleges and universities; generous donors gave nearly $4 million to advance our programs and facilities, Athletics, and Fine Arts programs.
We also celebrated 21 AP Scholars and 3 National Merit Recognized Students.
Throughout 2022, we held fast to our faith, families, and our strong school community. We learned what it meant to be made In His Image so that we could prepare ourselves to live For His Glory - our 2022-2023 school year theme.
In the following pages, you will learn more about tuition for 2023-2024, the continuing growth of our campus and the Natalie Thomas Student Center Campaign, the gains of our student body, and the generosity of our givers. Thank you for making the choice to be a part of our TFA Family; the best is yet to come!
In His Image,
Steve D. Whitaker, Ph.D. Head of SchoolMessage from the School Board Chairman
Dear TFA Family,
The 2021-2022 school year was an exceptional season for The First Academy. We renewed our focus on our Gospel-centered culture and mission, experienced robust enrollment, invested in our teachers, celebrated the generosity of our school families, and strengthened our school community. My role as School Board Chair at TFA is to make viability-focused decisions for the next generation of students while also providing fiduciary oversight of the school’s finances and operations. As a School Board, we focus our work on three key areas: advancing the mission, funding the vision, and securing the legacy. Part of our work in assisting in carrying out the Strategic Plan and funding the vision is to set and approve tuition rates on a yearly basis.
2023-2024 Tuition Increase
For the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years, the School Board made the decision to freeze tuition rates as many families were impacted financially by the COVID-19 pandemic. It was right to take this unprecedented action. For the 2022-2023 school year, the School Board made the important decision to reinstate an industry-standard increase in tuition and close the gap that existed from the season when tuition was frozen.
In the following pages, essential details regarding tuition rates and payment schedules for 2023-2024 are outlined, along with information about the upcoming Enrollment Change Period.
2023-2024 Tuition Increase Allocation
The revenue generated by the tuition increase will go directly to raise the base salary of faculty, increase allocations to the employee retirement program, provide for the increase in campus operating costs related to inflation, and expand campus facilities.
Please take some time to review the information about 2023-2024 tuition and reach out to The First Acad
2023-2024 Tuition Rates
For the 2023-2024 school year, the tuition increase has been set at 8% for TFA 5-day.
The School Board has made this important decision for three reasons.
Much of the tuition dollars from our families are directly funneled to our teachers. The increase in tuition will cover what The First Academy’s Leadership Team needs to keep our teacher pay above that of Orange County Public Schools and maintain a school of excellence.
Second, The 2022-2023 increase of 8% was still below what would have been expected had TFA not suspended tuition for the two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Finally, the inflation rate is currently 8.2% and is likely to increase. This impact will be felt on TFA’s expenses, especially teacher salaries and benefits.
2023-2024 Monthly Payment Schedule
12 Payments
Payments begin in April of 2023 and conclude in March of 2024
Continuous Enrollment Deposit Payment Options
Your student is already enrolled for the 2023-2024 school year (unless they are a graduating senior). Your family’s current enrollment, tuition payment plan, and Tuition Refund Program election will roll over to the 2023-2024 year in FACTS unless changes are made. If you would like to make changes to these elections, please do so during the Enrollment Status Change Period of February 15 through February 25, 2023. You will find frequently asked questions, facts, and contact information should you have any questions about this process on TFA’s website.
The deposit amount for the 2023-2024 school year will be $500. The $500 non-refundable deposit will be due on March 1st for our returning families and is applied towards tuition payments. As with prior practice, families may pay for the deposit through FACTS using a credit card.
Tuition Payment Options
For this upcoming school year, there will be a $250 monthly payment plan fee per student with the monthly payment plan selection for families. Families who elect to pay tuition in full will continue to receive a 1% tuition discount.
Tuition Refund Program
For families who select the Tuition Refund Program during the Enrollment Status Change Period, the timeline has been updated as outlined below.
If the Tuition Refund Program for 2023-2024 is selected during the Enrollment Status Change Period:
• Families who withdraw between February 26 - May 31, will be required to pay 25% of their tuition amount.
• Families who withdraw after June 1, will be required to pay 40% of their tuition amount.
• Families who withdraw August 9 and thereafter owe through the academic quarter for time enrolled and applicable percentage of unused tuition.
We pray that 100% of our families will remain in our school family at The First Academy for the 2023-2024 school year.

When did you graduate from TFA and where did you go to college? I graduated from TFA in 2013 and continued my education at The University of Central Florida and then at AdventHealth University. Please tell me about any awards, academics, or professional accomplishments. I recently graduated from AdventHealth University with a Master of Occupational Therapy degree. I was asked to speak at the graduation ceremony to represent the occupational therapy department. My research partner and I plan to present our ongoing study about leadership within occupational therapy in the fall.
Please tell me about your family, occupation, and/or volunteer service. My wife, Ally, and I have been married for 4 years. Our dog Gus is a loved member of the family, and we enjoy bringing him on all of our adventures. I have finished the academic portion of my occupational therapy program with two semesters of fieldwork remaining. Ally and I met working in the Children’s Ministry at First Baptist Church of Orlando in 2014 and continued to lead Children’s Ministry in Clearwater and Winter Garden. Please tell me about where you attend church now and your ministry involement. We currently attend Central Church in Sanford where Ally is the Connections and Women’s Director. I help serve alongside her where we greet first time guests and get them involved in small
groups and areas they can volunteer, plan and produce all church events, and assist where she needs me for women’s events. I still have a passion for Children’s Ministry and volunteer as the large group teacher. I grew up in a family that valued serving others and I am thankful to be in a position where I can do so on a weekly basis in a faithbased environment.
What teacher(s) and/or coach(s) had the most impact on your life, why/how? Dr. Toenges (aka Toen-Dawg, aka T-Money) and Steve Kavanagh impacted my life by increasing my theological and worldview understanding. They equipped me in a way that I am confident to defend my faith and share with others about God’s love and grace. These educators, to me, were the most important as I transitioned into college where I had more opportunities to interact with others who had differing ideologies.
TFA is a great place for academics and athletics; however, the faith-based environment they create is the most valuable aspect of the school. Their words and actions are critical in producing life-long successful spiritual leaders. To this day I do not hesitate to ask either of them a question whether it be theological or life-based. TFA is privileged to have such biblical educators. Coach Kinard played an important role in my life by molding my work ethic through coaching me in football and weightlifting. I thank him for the generous amount of workouts he gave the team and me to finish. The workouts and practices we participated in helped my perspective in what it takes to reach a level of excellence. The most important role he played for me and my teammates was the example he gave as a man of God on and off the field. Coach Oliver is the reason for where I am at today in my work as a healthcare provider. He taught anatomy which is where I found my desire to learn more. I followed my passion created from this class and will use it for the rest of my career. He also emulated the same characteristics as Coach Kinard, always bringing benevolent passion. Coach Harvey has also impacted my life as my AP European History teacher and football coach. The most impact he has made in my life has been from serving alongside him at First Orlando’s student summer camp,
Camp Orlando. During this, we have had conversations into the early morning hours about God, life, and how we can impact students. It is clear that he has a heart to serve stemming from his first career in defending our country. As we all know he can be difficult to find in a crowd, but his service for others is apparent.
Mr. Kowars was impactful to me by increasing my desire to read and write. I will never forget writing for entire class periods, but that is what I attribute to improving my ability to effectively communicate my thoughts. His impact, of course, extends beyond the classroom as he has given me life advice whenever I have asked. Don Baker is another man whose willingness to serve others before himself has impacted my life because he was never in the spotlight for the behind-the-scene work he did. His actions always spoke louder than words so because of that he will never be forgotten. George Siler impacted my life for the quote he required us to say before leaving class, “Make a great day!” I have used this countless times in my life and have shared it with others. We cannot rely on those around us to make our day great because we are all sinners and all make mistakes. By relying on God, following Jesus’s example, and doing what we can to improve those around us, we can make a great day!

I can even recall the mission – partly because we could get extra credit if we could recite it and partly because it made a lot of sense to me. The faculty, staff and fellow students were an important part of my development at an important season of my life. I am so thankful my parents sacrificed to make education at TFA an option and to have had such amazing friends and teachers that made the experience incredible.
What teacher(s) and/or coach(s) had the most impact on your life, why/how? I am so thankful for the education and inspiration I received at The First Academy! The amazing teachers from Dr. Toenges and Mr. Murray to Mrs. Schemer and Mrs. Kinloch – they poured their passion and heart into all they did. And we were all blessed because of it.

I have been blessed to use my journey and the experiences I faced in ministry, going to school at the University of South Carolina, excelling both athletically and academically, my entry into graduate school and even opportunities that present themselves now, all doors opened in accordance to God’s timing. Often times I would be impatient with progress or stressed about what opportunities would come next, but everything happens in His time. My hope is that I can share points in my journey as an example of God’s planning and preparation for my true potential.
How did TFA prepare you for the next steps in your life?
TFA was actually the birthing ground for the majority of activities I am involved in today. I got my start pole vaulting at TFA which eventually allowed me to be recruited to a Division 1 University. The numerous talks with my advisor in preparation for college that allowed me to come to the realization that animation was my end passion instead of architecture. I have been blessed to build lifelong relationships with the people I went to school with.
Most importantly, TFA taught me to value the importance of connections and relationships. Everyone you meet and interact with has the potential to bless you and help you along your journey. So many of the bonds I built at TFA laid the groundwork for my success or still bless me today and I will cherish them always. What teacher(s) and/or coach(s) had the most impact on your life, why/how? Mr. Bohner – He really looked out for me my first couple of years in all aspects. He was really someone I could rely on and confide in.
Coach Ricky – Another strong mentor that prepared me for this next stage in life after high school. He was key in developing me athletically as well as delivering lessons on toughness and perseverance to be able to compete on the highest level.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about the impact or connections TFA has made in your personal and/or professional life?
The friendships I made at TFA are still some of the dearest and most meaningful in my life. I met some of my closest friends there.
I wouldn’t be where I am without the spiritual foundation that I gained from TFA. My faith grew exponentially from the lessons and love poured out on me at TFA. I learned to fully trust and lean on the Lord, which has shaped me and helped me more than anything else.
I’m so thankful that TFA encouraged service. It’s something I’ve tried to continue in my personal and professional life.
A CELEBRATION OF GENEROSITY
The First Academy has been blessed by our committed donors, Gospel Patrons, since the founding of our school in 1986. All of the beautiful facilities that our students enjoy today are here because of those who have stepped forward in faith to work to advance the mission and vision of our school.
Our generous givers embrace the teachings of Matthew 6:19-21, which says, “Do not store up for yourselves treasure on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and dust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.”
ROYAL NATION FUND
Last year, TFA was blessed by gifts for Tuition Assistance, Teaching & Learning, Fine Arts, and Athletics. We are so thankful for the financial and prayerful support of our Royal Families & the TFA Community.
ROYAL BASEBALL FACILITIES
We are so grateful for the committed donors who stepped forward to create our beautiful new baseball facilities in 2021-2022. Our coaches will develop Champions for Christ on the field, within the locker rooms, and inside the batting cages. The committed Gospel Patrons did so much more than build with brick and mortar, but they gave to create a space where coaches and athletes can grow in Christ.

We have enhanced the student experience by completing the Royal Kitchen & Eatery and Gather Space. We now have the opportunity to turn the Natalie Thomas Gymnasium into a fully functioning Student Center. The Natalie Thomas Student Center will be the center of it all. We will provide space for students and members of our TFA family to study, socialize, eat, host events and assemblies, attend Fine Arts performances, and engage in campus life. The renovated facility will provide collaborative spaces for students to connect on campus. The advantages include:
1CHAPEL AND ASSEMBLIES FOR ALL DIVISIONS
The renovated space will allow for all divisions to host chapel and special assemblies within the safety of the campus gates.
The Natalie Thomas Student Center will serve as an extension of the academic classroom, offering a designated area on TFA’s campus to focus on the spiritual growth of our students through our weekly chapel experience.
2SAFETY AND SECURITY
The students are currently walking over to First Orlando for chapel and large assemblies. While we have been blessed to be able to rent facilities from the church, the movement of students from the safe perimeter of our school campus to chruch facilities each week continues to be one of our largest safety and security concerns. Additionally, we will install
a covered walkway to connect the Cramer Family Field House to the Natalie Thomas Student Center. This added safety feature will allow for students to travel to nearly all campus buildings safely under the covered walkways.
3FINE ARTS
With seating for just under 600, the Natalie Thomas Student Center will be the hub for campus-wide Fine Arts performances. With the
installation of all of the needed audio visual equipment and staging, TFA will be able to host larger productions and elevate our Fine Arts Program.
4LOWER SCHOOL ATHLETICS & PE
The space will continue to function as a gym and serve Lower School for their PE and sports needs throughout the year.
The current lobby of the Natalie Thomas Gymnasium will be transformed into an art gallery space to showcase student work.
Telescoping auditorium seating will be built into the space to accommodate just under 600 attendees for Fine Arts productions, chapel, assemblies, and more.
The flooring in the facility will be durable and able to withstand use both for Lower School Sports and PE as well as large student and family gatherings.
We will complete the vision of connecting our entire campus by installing another covered walkway connecting the Natalie Thomas Student Center to the Cramer Family Field House.
State-of-the-Art audio/visual equipment will be installed to prepare our student leaders and artists to perform at the highest level.
THE ONE BIG NEED is to complete renovations of the Natalie Thomas Gymnasium to create a fully-functioning Chapel, Fine Arts space, Athletic Venue, and Student Center for our students, families, and staff. Tying in the Student Center atmosphere with the Gather Space and Royal Kitchen & Eatery at the heart of our campus will truly complete the vision of a bustling student and family community on The First Academy’s campus.

stantly by her co-workers and church family.
Mrs. Brown received her degree in Elementary Education from UCF and knew that she wanted to go into public education as a form of the mission field.
Mrs. Brown has been walking the halls of TFA and First Orlando for quite some time. Mrs. Brown’s father, Pastor Bill Mitchell, has been on staff at First Orlando since January 1, 1993, her mother taught at TFA and was a pianist and organist at First Orlando, and she is a member of The First Academy’s Class of 1999. Upon graduation from TFA, Mrs. Brown received a scholarship to Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. She received the scholarship because, at the time, she had accrued the most community service hours in the
history of The First Academy due to accompanying her dad on the many mission trips he hosted for First Orlando.
Mrs. Brown then transferred to UCF to finish her last two years of schooling so that she could complete the needed Florida teaching courses. While attending UCF, she worked full-time at the Holy Land Experience and remained a member of First Orlando. She recognized that this was a special time in her life when she was ministered to con-
Soon after she graduated with her teaching degree, she stepped right into a teaching position at a public school. Her mom was also hired for a music position at the same school at the same time. She and her mom got to teach together and facilitate the productions and shows for the schools they worked at for 11 years. In essence, Mrs. Brown and her mom have been in schools together their whole lives, both while she was a student at TFA and when she began her career as a teacher in the public school system. Returning to their roots in the mission field, they both saw themselves as a light in the darkness in a very progressive public school.
Mrs. Brown went on to receive her Masters Degree in Educational Leadership. Upon completion of that degree, she agreed to go out on a date with someone she met through a mutual friend and co-worker. It only took one date for her to know that Peter Brown was her soul mate, and she and Peter were married in July of 2013.
When it came time to think about having their own children, Mrs. Brown and her husband Peter knew they wanted to have their children at TFA. She was still working at a very progressive school and wanted to be somewhere where her morals and beliefs would align with the school’s mission.
To come back to TFA was always a dream; she wanted to teach with her children and be in a place that aligned with her beliefs. She began to apply as soon as she could when she knew she and her husband wanted to start a family. She went through the rigorous application process, attended an Open House, hugged all of her old teachers, and prayed about coming back. She knew God was going to do some major things - personally and professionally. She was praying for a baby and trusting God with a new position. That year, she knew she wanted it to be her last in public school, and she knew when she left, it was going to be for good. She had to step away so that her kids would have the same experience that she had at TFA.
Mrs. Brown was welcomed back to TFA with open arms in 2016 and was teaching 5th-grade Science and Social Studies. She had her son Luke in February of 2017. When she returned for the 2017-2018 school year, Luke began as a TFA Preschool student as well. She loved being able to teach at TFA while also having her son on campus with her. She was excited to pray with her students and incorporate faith into every-
thing she taught, from Science to Social Studies.
Mrs. Brown got pregnant with her son Wyatt at the end of 2019 and stayed home for the 2020-2021 school year with her children. She prayed so hard that God would open a position at TFA for the 2021-2022 school year so that she could return when she and her children were ready. God answered her prayers, and she and her children were able to return. Today, Mrs. Brown teaches 4th grade, and her favorite thing about teaching at TFA is the relationships that are formed within the community of our school. Close relationships with leadership, faculty, students and families are what is most important to her. She especially loves that the relationships are always centered on Christ.
When asked why she is most excited about the new Natalie Thomas Student Center, Mrs. Brown was quick to answer that she knows that certain spaces at TFA shaped her into who she is. She feels that those moments in those buildings brought her closer to her walk with the Lord. She said that her two sons will utilize this renovated facility, and in those moments, in that building and others, they will become who they are supposed to become. Whether on stage, praying with a coach in PE, or making friends at lunch, she firmly believes these buildings offer opportunities to grow in faith. Her sons will be able to grow, and she will be able to teach others to grow in these spaces on our campus.

Mrs. Hodges is new to the TFA faculty this year but is already making quite an impact as the Middle School Theater and Chapel Director. She grew up performing in Kansas; she grew up in Kansas City. She said that Kansas City is a great theater town, both for community and professional theater. Mrs. Hodges graduated from Texas Christian University with a double
major in Theater and Secondary Education and a minor in Speech Communications. She attended TCU on a Performance Theater scholarship. She voiced that the Lord told her that she needed to get her teaching degree as well; He knew what was in store for her future! She is certified to teach in Texas, Kansas, and Georgia.
After graduating, she felt like the Lord was saying that she was to go work with kids, but in ministry, not in teaching or the arts. Being obedient to what the Lord was telling her, she then went to work at Camp Kanakuk. She grew up going there and worked there in the summers as she got older. She worked there full-time for about a year and a half after college, promoting the camp to families and counselors.
Following her time at Camp Kanakuk, she moved to Georgia right about at the time that 9/11 happened. At that time, no one was hiring, so she waited tables and sang. She noted that it was very humbling to have a college degree and not be able to find a full-time job.
Mrs. Hodges was then able to substitute teach for a year, and an opportunity opened up for her to teach Middle School Speech, Theatre, and Choir for a year. While teaching there, the program went well, and before she left, the principal had wanted to make it a magnet performing arts school; she was going to get to build the program. But again, God had other plans for her. At the time, she was attending Northpoint Community Church, and the church was opening a second campus in
Buckhead, Georgia. They approached Mrs. Hodges to be the KidStuf Director. As Director of KidStuf, she put on an original 45- minute show every Sunday for K-5th grade and their parents. She was able to work with professional actors & singers in the Atlanta area to create and perform an original script each Sunday.
For Mrs. Hodges, this opportunity was priceless. She had given up everything because the Lord asked her to work in ministry. Now she was being asked to work in one of the most professional theater experiences she had been involved with and work with believers and do what she loved; it really showed her the importance of being obedient when the Lord asks you to be!
Mrs. Hodges met her husband Jason while working in Buckhead; he showed up to help her build a set for her KidStuf show. At that time, he was leaving teaching and coaching in Atlanta for full-time ministry. They fell in love and got married a year later, in 2004. They had their first child, Caroline, and she left full-time work and began a 15-year period of contract work. She worked for a former employer who had started KidStuf at Northpoint and was writing curricula for churches. When she left fulltime work, she was asked to come on to produce some videos for the curriculum. This was what really honed her behind-the-camera experience. At TFA, she is now using much of that curriculum for Discipleship and Chapel coordination. For those 15 years, the church was also still hiring her as a performer for KidStuf. She also did
contract work for various ministries and organizations, serving churches worldwide either behind the camera or in front of it.
Their son Wyatt was born in 2008, and their daughter Hope in 2011. Her husband Jason progressed through the ranks and ended up at Woodstock City Church as Service Programming Director. During Covid, Jason was approached and asked if he would be interested in taking his expertise somewhere else. Then, in August of 2020, Jason was hired at First Orlando as Executive Director of Service Programming, and their kids started at TFA the Tuesday after Labor Day of 2020.
Mrs. Hodges knew when she saw TFA there was a level of excellence. That is always what has been attractive to her. From the moment she toured campus, she knew that she wanted to be involved at TFA but didn’t know how or when that would happen. In her first year here, she focused on setting her family up for success. Then, last year, an opportunity opened to assist with Middle and Upper School musicals and choir. When a full-time opportunity became available to teach at TFA, she really felt that the Lord had crafted the position just for her.
Mrs. Hodges said that with doing chapel, with her experience in ministry and doing it for so long, that chapel is her heartbeat. She said that “sharing the importance of Jesus with Middle School kids is amazing. I have been thinking of ways to make Middle School chap-
el engaging, different from church and Bible class.” She wants to teach that becoming a follower of Jesus is attractive. Being a follower is different than being a believer, and helping middle schoolers discover that is amazing. For Mrs. Hodges, doing the theater part of her position is just icing on the cake!
The best thing about being at TFA for her is getting to express herself fully as a believer in the classroom. She said that “You don’t get that in public education, and I am not naive to think that every student here is a follower, so I take that role very seriously to use myself as an example. To be real and transparent and let them see that a life after Christ is a good one. Everyone needs to know there is hardship too. I appreciate the trust that Dr. Holter and Dr. Whitaker have given me with discipleship and chapel.”
When asked what makes her most excited about the new Natalie Thomas Student Center, Mrs. Hodges feels that it will revolutionize the Chapel and Fine Arts Programs and be a huge blessing. She said that “having a great musical performance space is exciting. I am excited for the kids to have a space where we can show them off more. To have more of a community outreach with performing arts would be great. This space will provide a more well-rounded campus.”
Mr. Hudson has been at The First Academy for eight years, has a student in each TFA division, can be seen helping out on the football field, and serves as our Upper School Bible/World Religions teacher.
Mr. Hudson was born north of Minneapolis into a solid Christian home. His parents were Young Life leaders,
and he was raised in a traditional Christian church. His dad was the choir director and youth group leader. Mr. Hudson said that his parents really instilled his Christian faith in him.
For his secondary education, Mr. Hudson went to a private Christian school, Northwestern College, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Mr. Hudson said that he chose Northwestern because it was an opportunity to continue playing sports but would also allow him to be pushed a bit in his faith journey. Mr. Hudson was also influenced by music, and it was a large part of his upbringing. While at Northwestern, he participated in athletics and the fine arts, gaining many leadership opportunities through those programs. He was a football captain as well as president of the men’s chorus. Mr. Hudson received his degree in Social Studies Education but also had a double major in Bible.
Right after graduating, he was a youth leader; he also was a teacher for a bit and was on staff at a church as a worship pastor. He stopped teaching and did retail for a while to have more freedom to do mission trips. He met his wife, Sara, when he was in retail.
Before coming to TFA, Mr. Hudson was at Wells Fargo working in finance. While there, there was pressure from corporate that he was getting uncomfortable with. He had not been teaching for five years but felt the calling to return to the classroom. The Hudson fam-
ily moved to Florida to get away from the cold. When it was time to begin teaching again, Mr. Hudson’s wife began her research and found TFA. He went through the application process. It was affirming to him that TFA was a solid Christian school. When he came to TFA, we needed someone to teach World History, World Religions, and Finance. Mr. Hudson was the perfect fit!
Mr. Hudson also has three children who attend TFA; Hannah (12th grade), Jaiden (8th grade), and Brooklyn (5th grade). Mr. Hudson said that Hannah has made faith more of a priority as she has gotten older and was baptized at the senior retreat. She also competes in six sports at TFA and has earned a scholarship to play lacrosse at Stoneybrook University in Long Island. While there, she will be pursuing medicine.
Mr. Hudson said that Jaiden is very proud of his faith; he is a chaplain, and he is on the Worship Team. Jaiden plays football and soccer, but he always wants to pray after games, shows, etc. - that is his heart. He said that sports are fun, but worship and music are his passions. Brooklyn has a big heart for the Lord. She wanted to read the entire Bible over the summer, so they did a focused daily Bible reading. Mr. Hudson says that she is also huge into music, and it is her passion. She loves to write songs, plays guitar, piano, and drums. She also swims. Mr. Hudson sees her pursuing arts a bit more as that is important to her.
Today, Mr. Hudson is primarily teaching Upper School World Religions. He explained that in the course, they start by firming up their Christian faith, then deep dive into the major world religions and cults. The purpose is to understand and examine the truth claims of these other religions, and they see the fallacy of these other religions, it is baby steps to apologetics. At the end of the day, his goal is to equip students with the ability to defend their faith and take it to people groups confidently. Mr. Hudson’s favorite thing about teaching is working with Upper School kids. He said that the Upper School kids are at such an important time in their lives, and he enjoys guiding them. To him, teaching at TFA is his ministry. Every day he is trying to equip kids with the ability to defend and bring their faith to the world.
When asked why he is excited about the Natalie Thomas Student Center, Mr, Hudson responded that he is excited because he has two children who are big into worship and the space will give them more of an avenue for that. We have a lot of gifted students in the areas of spiritual leadership and worship, and this space will provide a great opportunity to grow those pieces for our student body.
Coming Soon! THE FIRST ACADEMY Nursery School
GROWING LITTLE HEARTS AND MINDS IN GOD’S LOVE
We are excited to announce the opening of The First Academy Nursery School at the start of the 20232024 school year. The Nursery School will be located at First Orlando in their newly renovated Kids ministry and will serve families with children ages birth through 2 years old. Families may continue their school journey at The First Academy where their children will be immersed in a Christ- centered, college preparatory experience, for the 3 year old program through graduation.
Our goal at The First Academy Nursery School is to provide a safe, loving environment for our littlest Royals to grow developmentally, socially, and spiritually. Our play-based, child centered program creates connection and community during these early formative years. We promote curiosity and creativity while partnering with parents on developmental milestones. At The First Academy Nursery School, your child will be known, loved, and prayed for everyday.
THE FIRST HOPE
The First Hope (TFH) is an extension of The First Academy, serving students with various exceptionalities in a Christ-centered environment. The First Hope was founded in 2009, with an enrollment of 6 students in its first year. TFH began to accept the McKay scholarship for students with special needs and expanded
to include therapies on campus as well as a variety of program offerings to best meet the needs of their students. TFH’s program is located in the Kids 1 building at First Orlando. The enrollment for The First Hope for the 2021-2022 school year grew 5%, with 40% of those families having students at both The First Academy and The First Hope.
In 2021-2022, The First Hope was able to establish a partnership with Chick-fil-A for their Work Program. In this program, students practice customer service, housekeeping duties, restocking supplies, and refilling drinks for customers. One of The First Hope’s Work Program students was offered an interview and is now employed by Chick-fil-A because of coaching provided to him by The First Hope Work Program.
Additionally, the Work Program operates a Snack Shack every Tuesday on the third floor of the Kids building. In running the Snack Shack, student roles include taking inventory, setting up the inventory, greeting customers, and cashiering. The Snack Shack offers an opportunity to learn valuable employment skills in a smaller environment.
For the 2023-2024 school year, The First Hope will have a new program and tuition structure. More information coming soon.
TFH student Lindsey Stokes entered the General Inclusion Program four years ago. Lindsey will graduate in 2023 and is planning to attend Beacon College in Leesburg in the fall. In Athletics, The First Hope participated in the Special Olympics, and two of our TFH students placed first in basketball.
Exciting changes are on the horizon for The First Hope, starting with classrooms that are designed for students who have been diagnosed with specific learning or attention needs. We have plans to train our teachers in the Orton-Gillingham approach, which is a structured, multi-sensory way to teach reading. These changes will help us grow TFH, all the while keeping our teacher-student ratios lower than most public and other private schools while providing a Christ-centered education.
EXTENDED EDUCATION PROGRAMS
For the 2023-2024 school year, the tuition increase has been set at 8% for The Classical School.
THE CLASSICAL SCHOOL
The Classical School (TCS) was founded in 2000 when TFA saw a demand for families interested in homeschooling their children. TCS began as an a la carte program, where families could pick and choose the classes they desired. Today, TCS is now offering a full traditional program and a hybrid homeschool program. The Classical School program is located in the Kids building at First Orlando. TCS’s traditional program is for students in grades K-8 whose families desire their student to receive all of their learning at home, under the guidance of their families. Also known as an ‘umbrella covering’, the program allows for parents to participate in standardized testing, portfolio reviews, and guidance in choosing curriculum. TCS’s hybrid program is designed so that the students receive on-campus instruction twice weekly and work from home under the guidance
of their families the other three days. The TCS faculty design the lesson plans for the students. Students are able to participate in TFA extracurricular activities for an additional fee. The Classical
School alumni have gone on to attend such schools as the University of Michigan, University of Florida, Florida State University, Ringling School of Art and Design, Indiana University, Palm Beach Atlantic, Samford, and Belmont. TCS students are excelling, with senior college acceptances including the University of Central Florida, Florida Atlantic University, Florida Gulf Coast, University of North Florida, and the University of West Florida. TCS junior Brooke Dennis has committed to The University of Alabama on a gymnastics athletic scholarship and sophomore Zoe Holiday danced in The Nutcracker this Christmas season.
N THE LAST 18 MONTHS, TFA Athletics has been blessed by some outstanding accomplishments on and off the field. We celebrated six district championships, three regional championships, and two state championships. In May, our Girls’ Softball team won their first state championship in school history in front of an incredible group of TFA supporters. Then this November our Girls’ Golf team won their fourth team state championship in the last six years. In addition, we celebrate with the 16 student-athletes from the Class of 2022 who went on to play collegiate athletics, 9 of those students playing at the Division 1 level.
More than wins and losses on the scoreboard, our mission in athletics is to make disciples who make disciples. Our staff is fueled by discipleship and equipping the next generation of student leaders to go out into the world and make disciples for Jesus Christ. We don’t just want to play sports, we want to impact our community. To me, this is the greatest value that our athletic program can stand for.
I believe that our athletic staff and coaches are among the best in the country. These men and women are devoted Christ followers, committed servant leaders, and passionate promoters of our student-athletes.
I truly believe that our best days are ahead for TFA Athletics, I hope that you will come join us for an event soon! Go Royals!

EVERY YEAR
the Annual Report provides a time of reflection, measurement, and thanksgiving as we look back on progress made, measure our current state of the school, and celebrate achievements. This year’s Annual Report provides more reasons to rejoice. Investments in facilities and teachers equals investment in our students.
The School Board is encouraged as we reflect back on progress made from year to year. However, we can only glance briefly as we know the importance of preparing and planning for the future. The First Academy School Board exists to make viability-focused decisions for the next generation of students who will attend The First Academy. This is done by focusing on the mission, funding the
vision, and leaving a legacy of excellence for our children’s children. As a School Board, we are encouraged as we reflect on our school’s history, a history that motivates us as we pray for and plan for the future.
