Made in the USA in our corporate headquarters in Miami, the Capillus82 is FDA-CLEARED and has no known adverse side-effects, so you can use it with confidence. Nothing tops it for convenience. Wear it just 30 minutes every other day. Unlike laser comb type devices, Capillus lasers require no effort from the user - making it a preferred choice of doctors worldwide. At $799, the Capillus82 is the best value you can get for the amount of lasers (comb devices are priced at more than 4x as much per laser).

Capillus laser therapy works through the process of photobiomodulation. Just like plants convert light energy to produce oxygen from carbon dioxide, cells on the scalp convert light energy from lasers into chemical energy to restore normal function in hair follicles. If caught on time, photobiomodulation can reverse the process of hair loss in people with androgenetic alopecia by restoring cellular function at the cellular level of the hair follicle, restoring the hair follicle.

NEW TROLLEY ROUTES
“PLAYFUL CITY USA”
The Doral Trolley Program rolls out improvements realigning and implementing different routes, along with an additional trolley. Through feedback received from surveys and e-mails, existing routes are being evaluated to take into account the community’s current and future needs due to new roads, connections, and developments. “As the City grows, we want the trolleys to reach those new areas” stated Traffic Engineer Rita Carbonell “With over 112,000 more riders in the last fiscal year, the trolleys must grow with our residents.” The Doral Transportation Team is assessing the existing trolley routes to begin serving Dolphin Mall, Legacy Park, and the Doral International Math and Science Academy, and potentially the newly opened CityPlace to better aid the community. All three trolley routes are to begin restructuring service contingent on Miami Dade County’s approval. An FIU route is expected by 2018, stopping at the Modesto A. Maidique Campus and the Engineering Center. “By offering a new option for FIU students and Doral residents it not only helps traffic congestion but also brings students to our City,” declared Rita Carbonell. Doral is coordinating with the City of Sweetwater on the FIU route.
For the eighth consecutive year, the City of Doral has been recognized as a 2017 “Playful City USA” by the national nonprofit KaBOOM!, an organization that advocates balanced and active play for children, as an essential component in enabling them to thrive. The program helps local governments address the play deficit and it is through mayors, city council members, parks and recreation departments, school districts and community leaders that the program succeeds in benefitting children. KABOOM! praised Doral for transforming ordinary places into award-winning, playful spaces and using play as a solution to the challenges facing their residents. “We are thrilled to recognize Doral for putting kids first,” said KaBOOM! CEO James Siegal. “The well-being of our communities starts with the well-being of our kids, and play is critical for them to thrive. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that all kids get the childhood they deserve filled with play.”
DORAL CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY (DCPA) 009 The program by the Police Department’s Training Unit, designed to acquaint people with the activities of their local police department, was postponed until fall. Pet Adoption and Protection Center Primer aniversario en Doral POR DANIELA GIAMPAPA-BENDAYÁN
M

The Music Man GUITARS OVER GUNS GUITARSOVERGUNS.ORG BY ANDREA CARNEIRO
BACKGROUND:
A renowned musician and teacher, Bernstein has spent much of his life drawing inspiration from music, but it was his sense of community that drew him to become a “social entrepreneur.” Bernstein says growing up in a family that didn’t hide the challenges of the world around him helped him and his brother Max (a Marine) understand their good fortune. “We were always encouraged to be open-minded, to treat all people with respect and empathy, and to enrich our lives by sharing with others, be that experiences, conversation, a meal, or something we have that others may not,” he says of his parents. “Being fortunate enough to have been brought up in a safe neighborhood with a loving, supportive family was not lost on us, and I think that it created a sense of responsibility for us both to give back or pay that forward.”
THE FLORIDA VILLAGER
THE DETAILS
GOGO relies on the support of not only professional musicians, but community members as well. “We are currently offering donation opportunities that include sponsoring a student, sponsoring a mentor (who will work with 5-10 youth), and even sponsoring school sites,” says Bernstein. “Setting up a monthly donation is one of the best ways to support - our sustainers are the lifeblood of the organization and allow us to keep the programs running. We also accept used musical instruments (guitars, basses, keyboards, drum sets, and sound/production gear).” Beyond financial donations, Bernstein says the musicians who participate are able to channel their own passion into what he calls “a powerful catalyst for change.” Adds Bernstein, “It is truly life-changing and most of our mentors will tell you that they are affected as much as the students by the program.”
THE FUTURE
Bernstein hopes to continue the organization’s growth and is eyeing expansion to New York and Los Angeles in the coming years. For now, he’s concentrating on the 600 students in Miami and Chicago who look to him and his team of passionate musicians to help them navigate oftentimes difficult situations. With the first classes of middle school students now entering college, GOGO is also rolling out GOGO Rise, a mentor program that connects community members with students to continue their mentorship through high school. “In 10 years, I would like to see the program's reach extend nationwide and start to connect youth internationally through the universal language of music. A shared vision of empowering youth to be future leaders through unlocking their creative potential would change the world.”
We believe that all young people should have the opportunity to reach their full potential through the transformation nature of music and the power of mentorship. That belief should be shared amongst our most challenged cities and spread deeply.”

ABOUT GUITARS OVER GUNS ORGANIZATION (GOGO)
Bernstein first created GOGO as an informal volunteer music mentoring program, aiming to work with youth from underserved areas in Miami, but soon saw it’s potential, formalizing the program and launching at North Miami Middle School in 2008. The idea was born out of a performance Bernstein did with local band Suénalo at a juvenile detention center. “They were a rowdy group and we were unable to reach them through conversation, but when we started playing they were entranced. Our music had elements of funk, salsa, pop, and rock, and when our MC started rapping the kids were hooked,” he says. After using one audience member’s outburst as a catalyst for a song, “the kids were transfixed and there was an amazing exchange that took place ... It was magical and completely elevated us all.” The lightbulb went off for Bernstein. “It was at that point that I realized what kind of unique power music has in connecting us with these youth.” Today, GOGO boasts programs in seven schools and various community centers throughout Miami and Chicago.

N AN EFFORT TO BETTER SERVE THE SOUTH FLORIDA community and keep up with the hospital’s growth, Kendall Regional Medical Center will embark on a $90 million expansion that will include two new floors, a 760-space parking deck and a new pediatric unit. “As more and more patients continue to choose Kendall Regional, our physical space needs to keep up with that growth,” said CEO Brandon Haushalter, who joined the hospital in November of 2016 after serving as CEO at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Haushalter also says the expansion, which is scheduled to begin later this year, will add a new pediatric ICU as well as beds to the adult ICU. Another expansion for Kendall Regional will come in the form of two freestanding emergency rooms, one close to the Town & Country shopping center and another in Doral. “As the population in South Florida continues to grow we think it’s important for the community to have access to convenient emergency care,” says Haushalter. “In emergencies, minutes and seconds matter.” The two emergency centers will be full-service, serving higher acuity patients than an Urgent Care center and offering on-site imaging such as CT scans, X-rays and ultrasounds. “It will have the full capabilities of a hospital emergency room,” Haushalter says. Joining Kendall Regional was a no-brainer for the longtime healthcare executive, who was drawn to the center’s reputation for high levels of patient care, exem-

U.S. Century Bank – The Only Bank with Headquarters in Doral
C
ELEBRATING 15 YEARS IN THE City of Doral, U.S. Century Bank has the distinction of being the only financial institution headquartered in this burgeoning community. It is also one of the largest Hispanic-owned community banks in the nation with a network of 13 branch locations, an online-banking platform, and a wide range of financial products and services. “For the past 15 years, we’ve had the pleasure of calling Doral home. Our commitment to Doral continues as does our role as a partner—not only by providing a full-range of products and services, but by giving back in positive and meaningful ways,” stated Luis de la Aguilera, President and CEO. U.S. Century’s executive management team, board members and staff have demonstrated this by donating their time, energy and resources in support of local charitable organizations and community events such as the toy drive with Doral Police, Doral Chamber and the AMA. “Through various volunteer opportunities, we have participated with residents for local causes and have formed deeper bonds,” de la Aguilera continued. Doral is unique. It has more than 9,000 businesses, a population of more than
54,000 and more than 150,000 individuals traveling to the area each day for work. It is densely populated with both small businesses and Fortune 500 companies, and is also a high-volume residential area. U.S. Century’s strategic banking approach is geared toward meeting the distinctive needs of local residents and businesses. “Offering our customers a diverse array of products for their financial needs, along with superior service, is at our foundation. Whether it is a family looking to buy a home or a small business needing a loan for expansion, U.S. Century is able to meet their needs in an optimal way,” stated de la Aguilera. In addition to its financial connection with the City of Doral, there is also a personal one. Alfred and Doris Kaskel, the original founders of Doral, are related to U.S. Century Bank board member and shareholder, Howard Feinglass. The word “Doral” is actually a blending of the real estate pioneers’ first names. With this history and connection, the bank is looking forward to the next 15 years of continued growth and opportunity in Doral.

Traffic Park en Doral: Su voto hará la diferencia POR DANIELA GIAMPAPA-BENDAYÁN
T

Meet Cosmo & Oakley
C
OSMO IS AN EIGHT YEAR OLD MALE FRENCH BULLDOG AND OAKLEY IS a three year old female French Bulldog. Their favorite person is their mom, who they keep an eye on at all times when at home. They love to snuggle with her and watch TV at night, as long as the sound isn’t too loud. Cosmo and Oakley’s favorite toy is anything furry and anything that allows them both to play a good game of tug of war. They love to socialize with all their fellow dog friends and they love the neighborhood girls who take them on walks and play with them. Cosmo and Oakley strongly dislike swimming, so when their mom goes in the pool they bark at her constantly to get out! Their favorite thing to do is walk on Sanibel beach and find seashells to take home.

La ingeniería tras la Sonrisa Perfecta POR ANDREA CARNEIRO
L

S EEN O N S C EN E THE BANK OF AMERICA CHARITABLE FOUNDATION GIVES $1 MILLION TO BASIC NEEDS AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATIONS IN SOUTH FLORIDA The Bank of America Charitable Foundation announced today that 77 nonprofits in South Florida have collectively been awarded more than $1 million in grants as part of the bank’s largest grant period of the year. The funds support organizations that address critical issues including hunger, homelessness, and poverty as well as advance pathways to overcome those issues through workforce development, skills training and high school graduation. “Despite signs of economic growth in Miami and throughout the nation, income equality and economic mobility continue to be pervasive issues for low-income
and disadvantaged populations,” said Gene Schaefer, Miami market president for Bank of America. “Too many hard-working people are living on the margins, facing barriers to success as they struggle to find affordable housing, good paying jobs and the ability to plan for their futures. That’s why Bank of America is continuing to invest in nonprofit organizations with proven efforts toward bridging these gaps.” The list of organizations in Miami that will receive funding include: Barry University, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami, Branches, Catalyst Miami, Centro Campesino
Farmworker Center, Chapman Partnership, City Year Miami, Communities in Schools of Miami, Educate Tomorrow, Feeding South Florida, Honey Shine, I Have a Dream Foundation, Junior Achievement of Greater Miami, Learning for Success, Lotus Endowment Fund (Lotus House), Miami Dade College Foundation, Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, POSSE Miami, Sant La Haitian Neighborhood Center, South Florida Progress Foundation, Take Stock in Children, Teach for America, Touching Miami with Love, United Way of Miami-Dade, Women of Tomorrow, Year Up South Florida
