DEAR FXW AND CATC COMMUNITY
We pledge to continue nurturing the values of hope, grace, and perseverance that are intrinsic to FXW, ensuring they remain a cornerstone of our community for generations to come.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees of The Frances Xavier Warde School (FXW), the Board of Directors of The Children at the Crossroads Foundation (CATC), and the entire faculty and staff at FXW, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your contributions to a successful 2023–2024 school year.
Reflecting on the past year, we are filled with pride and appreciation for the support and commitment of our community. This year, we celebrated the spirit and values that make FXW a truly exceptional place.
As we prepare to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the founding of FXW this fall, we celebrate the traditions that have defined our School for over three decades and bring joy and a sense of belonging to our students and families. This strong sense of community has been the foundation upon which the unique qualities of an FXW education—academic excellence, character development, and a commitment to service—are built and achieved.
We extend our sincere thanks to you for your generosity which highlights your belief in our mission, our work, and our people. This annual giving report is a testament to your dedication and the importance of our collective efforts in fostering a nurturing and dynamic educational environment.
As stewards of this remarkable institution, we recognize our responsibility to honor your trust and investment. We pledge to continue nurturing the values of hope, grace, and perseverance that are intrinsic to FXW, ensuring they remain a cornerstone of our community for generations to come.
Thank you for your support and dedication.

FAITH
A Community of faith that welcomes and embraces all faith traditions
FXW is an independent, Catholic school where all students experience and gain an understanding of religious diversity.
10 faith traditions are represented at FXW religion curriculums are offered
2 CATHOLIC MULTIFAITH
In Preschool and Kindergarten, the experience of faith is rooted in the student’s imagination and filled with stories of awe and wonder of God. In Grade 1 through Grade 8, students participate in either a Catholic religion class (Moonbeams) or an interfaith religion class (Shooting Stars). Both curricula mirror one another. Throughout the year, children participate in ecumenical prayer services and Masses as an expression of their faith experience. As an intentionally inclusive community, FXW School values the opportunity for interfaith dialogue, which involves listening, learning, and asking questions to deepen our students’ understanding of world religions. The celebration of Catholic holy days and sacramental preparation are part of the Catholic religion program.
SERVICE A Community motivated by faith to serve others
Through the Living the Legacy (LTL) service projects, FXW students and families engage in meaningful service opportunities throughout Chicago. Service comes in many forms including serving hot meals, cleaning up parks and beaches, and more.
Over the years, FXW has developed nearly 40 partnerships with organizations across the city with more than 200 service projects logged. FXW’s robust commitment to service included partnering with Big Shoulders Fund throughout the year, Grade 5 students visiting with and entertaining the residents of Brookdale Senior Living facility, and a day of service where our Grade 8 students volunteered at Greater Chicago Food Depository, Cradles to Crayons and Nourishing Hope.
Some Key Highlights from our Service
Dozens of families supported the New Neighbor program created by Exodus World Service to help refugees resettling in Chicago.
Collected hundreds of blankets, books, bedding and toiletries for The Franciscan Outreach that has three shelters supporting 300 adults
The Thanksgiving Drive produced over 2,200 pounds of food and donated over $1,400 for grocery store gift cards to help feed the people of Saint Eulalia’s Parish in Maywood.
Partnered with nearly 40 organizations and completed more than 2,200 service hours

ACADEMICS Education Program rooted in Charisms
A Community of Faith—As a Catholic school and little ‘c’ catholic school, how we welcome students and families to our community.
Purposefully Diverse and Intentionally
Inclusive—The practices, programs, and school policies we follow so all students and families feel they belong at FXW.
Preparing Thinkers and Leaders—The teaching strategies and approaches to engage students in learning, encouraging and developing higher level thinking and application of knowledge.
Motivated by faith to serve—FXW’s service projects are the living expression of our faith and living the Gospel message ‘for others’.
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
A Community that is purposefully diverse and intentionally inclusive
FXW welcomed Terri S. Jackson as our new Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the 2023–2024 school year. Ms. Jackson not only arrived with more than 20 years of experience as an independent school educator, including serving as assistant principal at Loyola Academy, she brought a vibrant and joyful approach to her service that reinvigorated our students, families, staff and entire community.
In her role, Ms. Jackson devoted the beginning of her tenure to holding “listening to learn” sessions with students, families, and faculty and staff. That important work led to the launch of several initiatives, including our community’s DEI Book Club where members read and discussed Ijeoma Oluo’s So You Want to Talk About Race late winter.
Ms. Jackson also began collaborating with our community to discover ways to build community through Affinity and Alliance Groups. An Affinity Group is a group of people who share a common background or identifier. An Alliance Group is a group of people who have a common commitment to a group of people who share a common identifier. Ms. Jackson asked students, families, and faculty and staff to share what Affinity and Alliance Groups they would like to see offered and invited community members to join them.
In addition, Ms. Jackson collaborated with the Head of School and Administration to provide vision, leadership, and strategic planning for DEI initiatives in alignment with the School’s mission and values. The Admissions, Hiring, Curriculum, Community Engagement, and Professional Growth and
Development subcommittees of the Equity and Justice Forum held meetings throughout the school year and published updates of all the DEI work being done during the school year in DEI Office’s monthly publication, With Mission in Mind. The work included a more collaborative, cohesive, and consistent way of honoring and recognizing cultural celebrations and religious observances and the creation of new art and essay contests to honor and celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, FXW invited students to submit entries for the contests. The essay contest was open to Grade 6–8 students while the art contest was open to all FXW students. The proud winners were announced at the Catholic Schools Week Peacemakers Mass at Holy Name Cathedral on Tuesday, Jan. 30. After a tremendous response, these contests will now be annual FXW events.
Our DEI work also included creating opportunities for students and faculty and staff to participate in community events. In honor of Black History Month, FXW student leaders, Nina Aggarwal (7), Eva Vance (8), Eesha Shah (6), and Vivian Hong (8) attended the Archdiocese of Chicago’s 46th Annual African American Heritage Prayer Service along with hundreds of students from nearby Catholic schools. During Women’s History Month, 16 HNC students attended The Young Women of Color Symposium in Wilmette. Jackson and teachers Shae Turner, Robbie Smith and Sandra Medina-Alba traveled to St. Louis in December to represent FXW at the 2023 NAIS People of Color Conference.

ATHLETICS & CO-CURRICULARS
The Frances Xavier Warde School believes in educating students both inside and outside of the classroom. During the 2023-2024 school year, we fielded cross country, flag football and girls volleyball during the fall and sent two cross country athletes -- Declan Kennedy and Audrina Vance -- to the IESA State Championship Meet. The FXW basketball program enjoyed another stellar campaign with three of our 22 teams -- Grade 8 Girls Lakefront, Grade 7 Boys Lakefront and Grade 7 Girls Skyline -- winning CCYL titles. Additionally, the Grade 8 Girls Lakefront won the LMAS “Cooler by the Lake” tourney, and Grade 7 and 8 Boys Lakefront each won IESA regional titles. In the spring, FXW sent 13 athletes to the Cass 3A IESA State Track & Field Championship Meet with five individuals/relay teams taking home medals. The girls 4x200M relay team won a state championship and set a new state record.
FXW’s co-curricular programs are designed to provide students with a safe and stimulating environment in which to learn, play, and be active. From athletics to fine arts, students participate and compete in activities that nurture and expand their personal interests. FXW’s commitment to each child’s well-being is fulfilled when their mind, body, and spirit work together. Programs offered during this the year included debate team, Extended Day Program, Mandarin, LEGO Robotics, Scholastic Bowl and calculus.
INVESTING IN FXW
The FXW experience is truly one-of-a-kind in our city, relying on the strong support and commitment of our community. Each year, FXW needs additional funds beyond tuition to maintain this exceptional experience. The gap between tuition revenue and the actual cost of each child’s education is bridged through community support. By not charging the full cost to educate, we ensure the socio-economic diversity intrinsic to the vision of our founders. Annual giving to the FXW Fund and participation in the Gala are crucial in addressing this gap, helping to keep our programs robust and our facilities safe.
The combined efforts of the FXW Fund and Gala impact every aspect of our School, with a strong focus on enriching the student experience. This year, the community raised more than $550,000 for the FXW Fund and close to $700,000 from the Gala. These funds support our dedicated faculty with competitive salaries and professional development opportunities, ensuring high-quality education and inspired learning in the classroom. They also provide a variety of enrichment programs that broaden students’ horizons and maintain our facilities, creating a safe and nurturing environment. By participating in these initiatives, our community demonstrates unwavering support and commitment, making a significant investment in our School, our students now, and for their future success.
PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) at FXW is a parent-run organization dedicated to supporting the school’s mission and fostering a strong community. PAC collaborates with faculty, staff, students, and families to include, celebrate, and highlight the diverse FXW community. PAC coordinates numerous events and initiatives throughout the school year. Room and Grade Level Parents help organize classroom events, support families during significant life events, and act as liaisons between parents and the school. Committees like Spirit Wear and Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week focus on celebrating the FXW community. PAC also hosts popular events such as the Uniform Swap, Grandparents & Special Friends Day, Book Fair, Mardi Gras, Book Swap, and Mother’s Day Luncheon. These activities provide opportunities for parents to engage, volunteer, and strengthen the FXW community.
We extend an especially heartfelt expression of gratitude to PAC and our entire community for donating over $128,000 to our holiday and end-of-year gift efforts for faculty and staff. These generous contributions bring immense joy and appreciation to our faculty and staff.
