Eliminating marginalisation one pair at a time.

What started out as a small act of kindness has now blessed hundreds, if not thousands of children across Pietermaritzburg, its surrounding areas, Johannesburg, Midrand and Pretoria East. Galaxy News spoke to the lead organizer and founder of ‘Making a difference SA,’ Chan Naidoo. “My wife Keshnee Naidoo and I started our work about 10 years ago with a group of family members and friends with the aim of making a difference. About 8 years ago my colleagues from Sasol decided to join us and jointly as ordinary people, we’ve come together to make an extraordinary difference to the lives of children and vulnerable people within our communities. We later got our Facebook friends on-board and have received support from friend across South Africa and even as far Switzerland and USA. We use 100% of funds raised for the targeted campaign and all expenses are presently funding by my wife and myself personally. We have impacted communities across Gauteng, Mpumalanga and KZN.”

keep them interested in learning without the feeling marginalised by their circumstances.

“The consequent result will be sustained interest in school, focus on empowering themselves and turning the tide that their circumstance dictate and not a situation they choose to be in,” said Chan. “We’ve used Facebook extensively to raise awareness for the vulnerable members within our communities and gather donor support. 50% of the funds raised are from my family, friends and Facebook friends and the remaining 50% was funded by my Sasol colleagues in their personal capacity. The tremendous support received from my Sasol colleagues has afforded us the platform to extend our reach to more beneficiaries.”

“We have received more than 18 requests from schools in and around Pietermaritzburg and Johannesburg. Since 14 August they have donated to 18 schools in Pietermaritzburg. Of the 18, Sunlit Gardens, Umsilinga Primary, Allandale Primary, Northdale Primary, Newholmes Primary, Springhaven Primary, TPA Primary and Orient Heights Primary have received donation for their learners. Seventy-year-old Marie Keulder, a Napierville resident, who was the express delivery’s first customer advocated that was more cost efficient and easier to utilise the At Your Service team. “I don’t need to go the shops for every little thing…now I can cut travel costs and be at home more often,” she said smiling.

Junaid and apparent care giver Nirosha Nohar. Investigating Officers are working long and hard to nail the medical and legal professionals who have had any roles in this case. It is also believed that one of the arrested has been paid over the years as Ebrahim’s Caregiver. Ebrahim appeared briefly at the Durban Commercial Crime’s Court last Monday for an expected bail application. However, the matter was adjourned until 25 August 2017 after a mysterious message was sent to the investigating officer. No details of the message were revealed but state prosecutor Nolwazi Letsholo said the investigating officer had received the message last week from an unknown number. Nolwazi said they would contact the service provider to track down the sender. Ebrahim’s advocate, Shane Matthews, instructed by attorney Devan Moodley, agreed to the postponement of the bail application so the matter could be investigated.

CLIENT FEEDBACK....

BASKETS ARE ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA! Beautifully woven baskets are a must in any home. These delightful creations are perfect for storing goods, organising a space, or adding texture and tone to an otherwise ordinary interior. From woven rattan, bamboo or fine wooden splints, baskets come in a variety of shapes and sizes – but one thing remains – baskets are versatile and make for great textural elements in the home.

never thought you needed. We love the natural look with raw materials that are both rustic and vintage. These baskets would do well in a traditional interior space. However, colourful basket options should also not be overlooked. A bright blue or white basket will be a great fit in a modern room or where it suits your existing colour scheme. Bigger varieties are also perfect for laundry and will instantly add style to your laundry room. If cupboard storage is in short supply, try storing towels in the bathroom in a basket, perhaps rolled up tightly and sat side by side. This tip also works for bed linen – a hamper-style basket at the bottom of the bed keeps it within easy reach and provides a place to keep throws and extra layers for chillier nights. With so many options, you can’t go wrong!

Whether in the living room or bedroom, baskets can be used in a variety of ways and in many spaces. In short, baskets are always a good idea! Use them to store your DVD collection neatly in your TV room, or use a smaller basket to store your jewellery in the bedroom. Stacked in cupboards or on open shelving, baskets help to create a uniform and organised space. It gives the illusion of order in a clutter-free environment. A worthwhile investment, a basket may quickly come in handy in any room. Store wood next to the fireplace or toilet paper in the guest bathroom. Soon enough you will find a use for a convenient basket you

Six Bags you Looking Like an Adult need to have in Pink? It’s Possible A women’s bag is one of those things that not only holds all that is essential, but the bag itself epitomises style and the sense for it – it’s basically what could very well define who you are as a fashion lover without even looking at the contents it contains. To find the bag that works for you is all about ticking the boxes that most appeals: Is it big enough for daily excursions? Does the size even matter? Do you prefer plain over printed, black over bright or sling over a chain strap? Take inspiration from some more bag trends we’ve edited and find your perfect match!

The transitioning phase into the world of adulthood (or “adulting”) can sometimes feel like a tricky process, especially if there are things from our younger years that we simply can’t let go of – like a relentless love for the color pink. While you may think that wearing this hue after a certain age is considered inappropriate, these styling tips will show you five different ways to do so without looking like a five-year-old kid.

Smart and Serious

1. THE BRIGHT BAG Keep it standing out like it should and pair with neutral separates and a cool attitude. 2. THE METALLIC BAG Cooler tones and casual pieces like blue denim work best with silver, while warmer burgundy’s or even classic black go best with gold.

When you opt for well-tailored pieces, you can still be taken seriously in pink. This sends the message that you’re a grown woman who has her life together, yet enjoys dressing up.

Who's the Boss? If you want to say you mean business, but are

3. THE WHITE BAG Paler shades of pastel highlight bright white best – look to chunky chain handles for a modern spin on this underrated hue. 4. THE DOCTORS BAG The name comes from the shape and structure. The formal impression it gives is perfect for playing on that or going against the grain with an exciting juxtaposition. 5. Family matters: 2017 Suzuki Ignis 1.2 GLX Suzuki’s new Ignis sub-compact looks much like Splash, its forerunner, but it’s different. Built on a new platform with a longer wheelbase it is shorter, narrower and lower but boasts 10 millimetres more ground clearance. The boot is bigger, up from 236 litres to 260, but passenger space has not been compromised; big people can still fit in comfortably.

top speed and improved fuel consumption. Claimed usage drops from 5.6 litres per 100 km to 5.1 and CO2 emissions go down from 133 gm/km to 119. But you can’t have everything; the fuel tank has shrunk from 43 litres to 32, although you should still be able to cover about 600 kilometres on a tankful without trying very hard.

It also weighs 240 kg less (850 rather than 1090), so it remains tall and skinny. It reminded us of Steve Urkel, the nerdy kid in Family Matters that ran from 1989 to 1998. Even the U-shaped DRLs under its headlights look like spectacles.

Staying with good news, local customers buying up until 31st December 2017 qualify for a free warranty extension to five years or 200 000 km. After that the standard three years and 100 000 km plan applies.

Although a 1.3 diesel and a different 1200cc petrol engine are used overseas, Suzuki SA opted to stay with the India-spec’ 1197cc K12M motor used here in other models. Useful side effects of Ignis’ lighter construction are quicker sprint time, higher

You can just hear her: “Don’t put your feet up on the dash. It’s unladylike.” Or: “You’ll scratch the plastic.” Now Mom could add: “You’ll break your legs. Or even die.” What a pain. But she’s right. An unexpected collision could trigger the airbags that are meant to save you, with disastrous results. They deploy at between 160 and 350 km/h, driving your feet back with them before you can possibly react. Broken ankles, shins, knees or femurs anyone? What if the impact continues back through your facial bones and kills you instantly? seating position, is plain stupidity. Two years ago, Audra Tatum of Walker County, Georgia ignored her husband’s warnings not to ride with her feet up. Another car crashed into theirs from the side, causing the front airbags to deploy. "When the airbag exploded, it pushed my foot up into my face," Tatum said. The force broke not only her ankle and femur, but also her nose and shoulder. At the hospital after the crash, doctors told Tatum that had her feet been on the floor, she "wouldn't have had any issues whatsoever." As it is she suffers with residual pain two years later."I regret it every day," Tatum told her local news channel, "every hour of every day; because every time I put pressure on my leg I feel it. Do not sit like that."

New Coach For Proteas | Are The Springboks Really Back? | Football Season Begins... AUGUST was set to provide

yet another adrenalin-filled month of sporting action around the globe, in a number of sporting codes. In the rugby world, we witnessed the conclusion to Super Rugby and now look forward to (or do we?) the remainder of the Rugby Championship while in cricket, the Proteas ended their horror tour of England on a damp squib of note. However, the highlight for most sports fans was always going to be the return of the football season with all major leagues set to ‘kick-off’.

PROTEAS fans were in for more suffering as the national cricket team suffered a humiliating 3-1 loss to mighty foes England, to bring the curtain down on what has been a rather disappointing sojourn to the home of cricket. A tour that brought series losses in the T20s, ODIs and tests as well as the Champions Trophy nightmare, culminated with the team playing like school boys. Going into the final test needing a victory to secure a respectable series draw, the team simply flattered to deceive and didn’t even put up a fight. School boy errors and decisions were the order of the day and the tour ended up being the complete antithesis to the amazing win over Australia away from home, less than a year ago, where skipper Francois du Plessis was lauded as a pioneer.

To say that the team is in transition is an understatement of note. I have never seen a Proteas team more unsettled than we are currently. The above-mentioned poor decisions include the constant chopping and changing of the batting order, particularly the coveted and vital number 4 position. A guy like Quinton de Kock began the series in the traditional number 7 spot thereafter proceeding to move up to number 4 and then dropping to number 6 in the final game. Temba Bavuma who has excelled in the number 6 spot in saving the team on numerous occasions, moved up to number 5 and then straight into the number 4 birth. Even school boy teams have more consistency than this!
