Chapter 9 | Testing All the Resources

of Ophir, Sheba and Tarshish

2 Chronicles 9:21 KJV For the king’s ships went to Tarshish with the servants of Huram: every three years once came the ships of Tarshish bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes and peacocks.

We will now thoroughly test each of these resources in which Solomon’s navy fetched from Ophir, Tarshish and Sheba. Tarshish is Ophir in area as they are equated several times in scripture and Sheba, Ophir’s brother is equated to both lands as well. 1 Kings 22:48 KJV Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Eziongeber.

Also, Tarshish is a location not wood nor just a name for the ships. They physically went to a tangible place called Tarshish which is in the same region as Ophir and Sheba. This notable expedition was altered in this passage as the Red Sea port was destroyed. 2 Chronicles 20:36 KJV And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Eziongeber.
