Fresh

from the

FARM

C

By Leslie Styles

The Burlington Centre Farmers Market has opened for it’s 62nd season, located in the south parking lot at the Burlington Centre mall every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday until October 24th.

The market is a great way to meet area farmers and feed your family garden-fresh, local fruits and veggies. There’s also eggs, meats, cheese, baked goods and more available for you. The market boasts the freshest of everything from apples to zucchini. What’s healthier for your family than buying straight from the farm? As customers browsed the market they were serenaded with the sweet voice and guitar of Siena Vreudge, who performed there on June 26th.

The Farmers’ Market is operated by the Burlington Lions Club who donate the proceeds from the Market operations to specific local projects and helping those in need. To ensure safety, hand sanitizers and masks are encouraged to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Special procedures have been implemented to encourage social distancing. Read the signs, follow the arrows, and wear your mask!

Canada Day RIBFEST at Burlington Centre Mall By Leslie Styles

8

NEIGHBOURHOODMAGA ZINE .CA

Canada Day celebrations were finger-lickin' good at the Rotary Club’s very first "DRIVE-THRU RIBFEST" that took place in the parking lot of the Burlington Centre Mall.

Huge lines of waiting cars held hungry guests as only vehicles were permitted, no pedestrians, ensuring social distancing guidelines were followed. Grills from four awardwinning vendors were fired up and take-out orders of mouth watering ribs were delivered to each car. Workers wore masks and plastic face shields to help prevent Covid-19 spread. This wildly successful event was a charity fundraising initiative of Rotary Burlington Lakeshore and included live music by the ‘bluesy’ Alfie Smith, Mackenzie Leigh Meyer, Killin’ Time Band, and The Dirty Pioneers.

Cook's Tip

You can use larger marshmallows, but be sure to cut them in half, as they will be easier to cook thoroughly. Also, you can use whatever you have on hand for dipping – BE CREATIVE!
