restricted and palpation of the muscles in the lumbar region intensifies symptoms. LP during pregnancy is very similar to lumbar pain experienced by women who are not pregnant and it appears as pain over and around the lumbar spine, above the sacrum, making the differentiation between PGP and LP easy.

What Can YOU Do To Help • Low-impact activities such as swimming, walking, or stationary cycling can help relieve pain.

Back Pain WHILE PREGNANT Pregnancy related low back is the most common complaint among pregnant women, which leads to a huge impact on their quality of life. Research has shown that 50% of pregnant women will suffer from some kind of low back pain at some point during their pregnancies. The average healthy weight gain is approximately 30 lbs, most of which is around the abdomen adding a significant frontal load. The added weight puts stress on the back, hips, knees and feet/ankles.

Did you know... that there are different types of pregnancy low back pain? The two most common types are pelvic girdle pain and pregnancy related low back pain. 6

NeighbourhoodMagazine.ca

Pelvic Girdle Pain Pelvic girdle pain is the most common type of low back pain is roughly four times as prevalent as lumbar pain. Typically, women tend to feel a deep, stabbing, recurrent or continuous pain that is between the sacroiliac joint and gluteal fold. It may even radiate to the back of the thigh, knee and calf but will not go into the foot. The pain can be triggered by prolonged sustained postures, and usually occurs within 30 minutes of common daily activities, such as walking, sitting, or standing.

Pregnancy Related Low Back Pain Pregnancy-related low back pain is described as pain in the lumbar region (low back) that could potentially radiate into the leg. The pain is often described as dull and aggravated by forward flexion. In the lumbar region, spinal movement is often

You can also place a pillow under your knees if you sleep on your back. • Take short breaks with your feet elevated • Wear supportive shoes, use a lumbar support pillow in your chair and take frequent breaks and walk around for a few minutes each hour at work • Don’t be afraid to ask for help when lifting heavy objects

What Can WE Do To Help? Pregnant women should be educated on how they can maintain a proper posture while doing every day activities so that the back is not overloaded or misaligned. Chiropractic care is safe and an effective practice during pregnancy. Burlington satisfied its sweet tooth in August at the first annual Butter Tart Festival held at the Art Gallery of Burlington. Butter tart lovers came from miles around and were treated to every kind of butter tart imaginable, including peanut butter chocolate tarts, maple bacon butter tarts, and the classic pecan tarts to name a few. Vendors only added to the excitement, offering baked bread, jewellery, purses and even cannabis oil. The festival was a sweet success.

CANADIAN National Championships By Leslie Styles / Photography by Evan Bingley

Amid much pageantry, Burlington Lawn Bowling Association hosted the Canadian National Championships at the beautiful New Street Club. The five day tournament began with a short parade led by a piper and colour guard, followed by the various provincial teams. During the opening ceremony, a warm welcome was extended to all out-of-town visitors by MP Karina Gould as well as Tiffany, a rep of MPP Jane McKenna. President Doug Busey and V.P. Tony Farrell of the Burlington club spoke, recognizing the contribution of the volunteers. Everyone joined in to sing “O Canada”. Mens and ladies teams from seven provinces participated in the bowls, stopping for lunch and breaks between games. The very hospitable Burlington hosts supplied several meals to all present, including a bbq

Can you tell us what inspired you to get into the insurance and financial services field?

My Dad, Bryan Burnside, has been an Insurance Agent for over 50 years now, so seeing how much he enjoyed his work was in inspiration to me.

What are the keys to being successful in this business? You must love people and have a great motivation to help others. Add in a sense of responsibility and a willingness to work hard and you’re most of the way there.

What separates you from your competition?

We are told we are different in that we explain insurance well and we really go out of our way to serve our customers properly. Our sense of humour in the office sets us apart too.

According to your online reviews, your clients couldn’t be happier with their experiences. What does that mean to you? We love getting positive feedback from our customers – this just fuels us to keep giving great customer service. Andy with his Dad, Bryan Burnside.

ANDY BURNSIDE

of Burnside Insurance and Financial Services Ltd.

You offer a wide variety of insurance packages such as auto insurance, business insurance, and life insurance to name a few. Tell us a bit more about this?

Yes, we do personal lines home and auto insurance as well as commercial lines where we insure small businesses, restaurants, contractors etc. We also offer Life Insurance, Health Benefits, Mutual Funds and even Vehicle Loans!

What is one piece of advice you’d give to someone who is looking into getting insurance?

So many of us have made Insurance a commodity – something for which price is the only factor – but it shouldn’t be. Insurance is still an industry where it pays to have great advice and people you trust on your side.

What does the future hold for you?

I’m going to keep growing my business and hiring team members with help from the great referrals we get every day.

If given the opportunity to relay a message to the world, what would you say?

Make the world a better place one person at a time by helping others; it is one of the greatest and yet simplest opportunities we have in life. NeighbourhoodMagazine.ca

Canada’s Largest

RIBFEST By Leslie Styles

Labour Day weekend saw the 24th anniversary of Canada’s largest Ribfest, proudly organized by the Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore. Since the very first Ribfest in 1996, all proceeds collected have gone to charity. A lineup of great bands rocked the main stage at Spencer Smith park, including Stone Monkeys, Bare Blue Sea and many others. Award-winning rib chefs set up giant barbecues in the park; Fat Boys Ribs, Carolina Ribs, Memphis Blazin’ BBQ, Billy Bones, and so many more. There were inflatable slides and jumpers for the little people, Ferris wheel, and other amusement park rides near the pier. The park was hopping with people for the whole weekend, another great success for Rotary Burlington Lakeshore and all of the charities they support.

Aldershot BIA

POP UP MARKET By Melissa Winkler

Aldershot BIA held their August Pop Up Market on the 24th in the former Home Hardware location. Many local vendors gathered under white tents in the sun-drenched parking lot and shoppers browsed products while listening to the talented Anna Poc on guitar. Some of the vendors included Flour Child Bakery, Knock on Wood, MVM Orchids and Stillwater Float Centre who is the recipient of a 2019 Peoples Choice Award. If you missed out this time, check out the last market of the season coming on September 28th.

Children’s Festival at

SPENCER SMITH PARK By Leslie Styles

With summer winding down, the Children’s Festival at Spencer Smith Park attracted families looking for a bit of entertainment for their kids before the start of school… and they weren’t disappointed. The main stage showcased several acts including a stunt ventriloquist show, mimes, magicians and jugglers. One of the big attractions was the meet and greet with Peppa, the loveable (and slightly bossy) little pig. There were also bouncers and slides, temporary tattoos, face painters, Chics on Sticks stilt walkers and much more. In addition to the main stage, Creative Edge Dance Studio put on quite a show as well as Burlington Trampoline and Tumbling. Food trucks could also be found dishing out delicacies to the delight of the crowds. Overall, the little people had a fantastic day.
