REMEMBRANCE DAY IN MISSISSAUGA Article & Photography by Peeter Poldre
REMEMBRANCE DAY DAWNED CLOUDY AND WINDY IN PORT CREDIT IN 2021, BUT AS THE CEREMONY AT THE CENOTAPH TOOK PLACE, SOME WELCOME SUN PEAKED THROUGH.
Hundreds gathered to commemorate those who fought for our freedoms for over a century. For a second year, pandemic precautions were observed and no parade or church service took place. Wreaths were in place at the Cenotaph and dignitaries and representatives of the Royal Canadian Legion, various veterans’ groups, police, firefighters and paramedics paid their silent respects. The ceremony concluded with all participants laying their poppies on the Cenotaph. 8

SINCE 2009, 'TWAS THE BITE BEFORE CHRISTMAS FOUNDATION HAS RAISED OVER 1 MILLION DOLLARS. HAVING THE SUPPORT OF MAYOR BONNIE CROMBIE AND HOSTING NUMEROUS FUNDRAISING EVENTS THROUGHOUT NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER HAS ALLOWED THEM TO SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY IN A MORE SIGNIFICANT WAY THAN EVER IMAGINED.
One of their recent events (Ladies Night) at Capra's Kitchen this past November hosted a fashion show with Maya Carbin and had the talented Carson Freeman join them with live music. The community came together to make this one of their most successful Ladies' Night and they were grateful for the support of their community partners. 'Twas the Bite's mission is to bring the community of Mississauga together to "Fight Hunger, Feed Hope and Empower People in Need." To learn more, visit twasthebite.ca.
