Clarkson Village
Christmas By Diana Lynas / Photography by Peeter Poldre
The Clarkson Village BIA and Clarkson Community Church presented Christmas in the Village on November 28th. What a way to ring in the holiday season! It was a perfect night to spend outdoors for the tree lighting ceremony at the Clarkson Community Church on Lakeshore Road. Santa took time out of his busy schedule to say hello and take photos with the kids and families. There seemed to be something for everyone including a petting zoo, live music, sing alongs with the choir, sipping hot chocolate and enjoying some delicious soup - all courtesy of the many local businesses in Clarkson. The organizers would like to thank everyone for coming and for bringing in non-perishable food donations for The Compass Food Bank. Ho Ho Ho!

Parkland on the Glen
Arts &SHOW Crafts By Grace Miksa
Parkland on the Glen recently held its annual Arts & Crafts Show to display the many talented residents. Their Stitch & Chat group knit and crocheted throughout the year to prepare for this event. All proceeds from the sales were donated to the Trillium Hospital. Other fundraising initiatives included fruitcake sales with all proceeds going to Parkinson’s Canada. Thank you to all that attended.
Port Credit
Remembrance Day By Diana Lynas / Photography by Peeter Poldre
PARADE
On November 11th the annual Port Credit Remembrance Day Parade honoured those who gave their lives for our freedom. Many gathered at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 82 Port Credit and proceeded to the Vimy Park Cenotaph on Stavebank Road. A service was held at The Anglican Church of Trinity – Saint Paul, followed by the laying of the wreaths and poppies at Vimy Park. There were many community members and some local schools in attendance on this snowy, yet remarkable day – “Lest We Forget.”

The British Invasion
Masquerade Ball HOSTED BY MAYOR BONNIE CROMBIE By Diana Lynas / Photography by Peeter Poldre
On November 21st, Mississauga Arts Council presented The British Invasion Masquerade Ball at the Mississauga Convention Centre. The event was hosted by Mayor Bonnie Crombie who was decked out in her 60’s attire with red boots – her signature colour. The Swingin’ Sixties party was in full gear with music taking you back to the heyday of the Beatles and Rolling Stones, with performances by The Dreamboats, Tom Barlow Band and Jacelyn. Everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner, spectacular entertainment, auctions and dancing in support of the arts community and arts for health initiatives in Mississauga. A big thank you to all the sponsors, planners and supporters of this swinging retro event.

The Culinary Showdown! - Cynthia Milburn, CEO
Epilepsy South Central Ontario hosted its inaugural Culinary Showdown at the Oakville Convention Centre with SMEG as the sponsor. The Culinary Showdown included an all-star lineup of famous Celebrity Chefs who were joined by the top fifty fundraisers for an action-packed day and evening. The day began with a cooking school for the fundraisers as they moved from the five stations, learning some of the tricks of the trade by celebrity chefs, Claudio Aprile, Massimo Capra, Mary Berg, Alvin Leung, and Michael Smith. The evening was a fast-paced MasterChef-style competition, hosted by John O’Hurley and with Team Claudio Aprile taking home the coveted trophy. All proceeds will help the important services and support provided by the Epilepsy SCO.
HOT OFF THE PRESS… next year’s date for the Culinary Showdown is November 24, 2020. Mark your calendars now for this incredible event.
