Three new champions were crowned at the 2020 Canadian Tire National Skating Championship finals that took place at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre in Mississauga on January 18th. 20-year old Roman Sadovsky landed three quadruple jumps to capture the first national skating title of his career, beating out veteran Nam Nguyen for gold. Ice Dance partners Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier had stood on the national figure skating podium seven times, but never on the top step. But Saturday, after nearly a decade of skating in the shadow of superstars Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, they captured gold.
“Getting a Canadian title is something we’ve really worked hard to get.
It hasn’t come easily. But everything is about timing in life and we’ve finally found what works for us.” - Piper Gilles
Emily Bausback won a women’s singles event that saw three newcomers climb the podium, while Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro won their second consecutive pairs title.

Fire and Ice Affair By Susan Gibbins
A Fire and Ice Affair was the final WinterIN the Port event held on Saturday, January 25th on Elisabeth Street. There was live music to listen to all day as guests watched ice sculpture demos and fire shows, interacted with strolling ice characters and painted on the ice wall and created a lantern. There were cozy fires and warming stations and hot beverages to keep you warm as well as a Fired-Up BBQ sampler station and Beaver Tails and an ice cocktail bar to enjoy. It was a perfect place to enjoy an evening outside with friends and family.
MUSIC EXPO By Susan Gibbins
