Lakeshore
ART TRAIL By Susan Gibbins
Lakeshore Art Trail hosted their 20th annual artistic community based art show tour on the October 19th and 20th weekend. The tour featured the amazing works of local visual artists showcasing their artworks out of their studios or local businesses located throughout the scenic Mississauga villages of Clarkson, Port Credit and Lorne Park. The Lakeshore Art Trail consists a group of visual artists who enrich the local community by sharing their talents and passion for art through a unique tour venue.
LvlUP Athletics
BREAST CANCER FUNDRAISER By Susan Gibbins
This past October, LvlUP Athletics held its 3rd Annual Breast Cancer Fundraiser. The weekend kicked off as it has in previous years, with Ladies Night at the Studio. This awesome night included a variety of women-owned businesses from athletic wear and essential oils to makeup and jewelry. While the ladies browsed the booths and enjoyed some wine and cheese, there were also prizes to be won which were donated from our vendors and businesses in the community.
For those who couldn’t make it to the fundraiser, LvlUP participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure, further contributing to their fundraising efforts which totalled just over $350. LvlUp would like to thank their vendors including Meghan from DoTerra, Alyson from Zyia Athletics, Carrie from Beauty Counter & Jewelry by Laura. They would also like to thank all of those who kindly contributed prizes to raise further funds for the cause.

Art Gallery of Mississauga
BENEFIT ART AUCTION By Susan Gibbins
The Art Gallery of Mississauga held their signature Annual Benefit Art Auction on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. Supporters at this year’s auction allows the Gallery to continue to offer free access to our awardwinning exhibitions and critically recognized programs, as well as allowing them to continue to add new and relevant programming. The AGM is the heart of the art community in Mississauga and all of Peel region. The evening saw sixty stunning works of art up for the live auction and there were several fantastic items and experiences available in the silent auction by an amazing complement of artists who support us by donating their works. It was a very successful evening for all who attended as well as the Art Gallery of Mississauga.

Halloween in the
VILLAGE By Susan Gibbins / Photgraphy by Peeter Poldre
Clarkson’s long traditional event Halloween In The Village was sponsored by the Clarkson Business Improvement Association. The streets were filled with little ghosts and goblins and unicorns and so many little ones dressed up in amazing and unique costumes going from business to business collecting yummy treats. Along the way there were stops for pony rides, visiting a petting zoo and watching a magic show as well as wandering clowns and a colouring contest. It was a perfect fall day to trick or treat and meet the many participating merchants of Clarkson Village.

STARS Oh, what a night! The costumes, the dance moves and the smiles. This year’s 7th Annual Dancing with Mississauga Stars at the Mississauga Convention Centre was another huge success as six local stars accepted the Community Foundation of Mississauga’s challenge to raise funds while learning one ballroom style dance. Not only were guests treated to the stars amazing dancing, the alumni put on a spectacular show also. It was a night to remember with all proceeds going to Community Foundation of Mississauga. This clean and healthy dessert is so delicious and one that you can feel great about eating. So good, that in fact, it would make perfect breakfast.
Apple Crisp
BAKED APPLES STEP 2. Hollow out the apples, but don't use an apple corer—it will slice all the way through the apple, which is not what we're after. You want to remove the core and seeds while keeping the bottom of the apple intact so you have a nice little vessel in the middle to fill with the crisp. STEP 3. Start by using a paring knife to carefully slice around the top core of the apple, making sure not to go all the way through to the bottom. Then pull out what you cut and use a spoon to scoop out the rest. Make sure that all seeds are out. I find that the sharp edges of a 1/2 tsp measuring spoon are ideal for scooping out the core but any small sharp spoon or even a melon baller will do.

• 8 Gala or Fuji Apples (they hold their shape best) • 1 cup Water FOR THE TOPPING • 1 cup/100 grams Rolled Oats (I like large flake or old fashioned) • 1/2 cup/45 grams Almond Flour • 1/4 cup/30 grams Chopped Pecans, Almonds or Walnuts • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Shredded Coconut
Directions STEP 1. Preheat oven to 375˚F.
Ingredients
STEP 4. Place the apples in a roasting dish that holds them snugly. STEP 5. Mix all the Topping ingredients together (by hand). Spoon the topping evenly into each apple to overflowing. Pour the water into the bottom of the pan. Cover pan with foil. STEP 6. Cover the roasting dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes, uncover and bake for another 25 minutes or until the apples are soft, shrunken and the crisp is browned. STEP 7. In the meantime, make the Tahini Drizzle by mixing all the ingredients together with a whisk. STEP 8. Serve warm with the Tahini Drizzle drizzled over the top.
• 2 tbsp Maple Syrup • 1 tsp Vanilla • 2 tbsp Softened Coconut Oil FOR THE SWEET TAHINI DRIZZLE • 2-3 tbsp Tahini • 1 tbsp Date Molasses (silan) • 2 tbsp Water • 1-2 tsp Lemon Juice

CLEAN EATING NOTES:
Oats have been used in herbal medicine, as a way to calm the nervous system. They are a great healthy comfort food – that has been shown to relax and calm anxiety. They are also a great source of fibre and plant based protein. Oats are naturally gluten free, and are a great way to get a boost of feel good B vitamins (the precursor to serotonin).
