MISSISSAUGA'S 'CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARD' RECIPIENT IS NONE OTHER THAN

John recently received the Gordon S. Shipp Memorial Award which is presented each year as part of the Mississauga Civic Awards of Recognition. John's involvement goes back many decades to the Mississauga Hospital bed races in Port Credit. He was a member of the Board of Port Credit BIA for many terms serving to help the small business. He is the founder of the nonprofit organization "Paint the Town Red" Canada Day Celebration. He collects food for the food bank during his annual parade on Canada day. This year John and his board hosted Paint the Town Red presents "A THANKSGIVING TO REMEMBER" event, which honoured those lost during Covid. 6

John has donated from his business for many years to the local food bank, breakfast programs at schools, fundraisers for every organization that has requested his support such as Mississauga Waterfront Festival (sponsor a child program fundraisers), provided musical instruments to children to participate in the South Side Shuffle, supported the Bite before Christmas fundraiser and food drive by hosting a fundraising breakfast and donating deserts to their dinners. John donates to the local hospital. When the pandemic began, John (through La Villa Bakery) donated Pizza's to the Trillium Emergency Department for weeks and delivered baked goods to

the staff to brighten their day. Since he opened his business, John has stived to live a community based "neighbour helping neighbour" basis and has done so admirably and without much fanfare. His dedication to the community speaks volumes about who John Bozzo is as a valuable, contributing community member and his service to the betterment of life in Mississauga.

HAZEL: 100 YEARS OF MEMORIES, an exhibit documenting the ground-breaking life of former Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion opened on October 26th on the lower level of the Erin Mills Town Centre. The exhibit is scheduled to remain open until February 28, 2022. It is free to the public.
Countless items are beautifully displayed in a spacious and well-lit gallery. The ceremonial opening took place just meters away in the central area of the Town Centre where a bright Hazel sign greeted many wellwishers who were on hand to celebrate the opening of an exhibit that will provide all citizens of Mississauga with insights into the growth of the city under the decades of Hazel’s leadership.

It was a hot, hot night at the inaugural Peel First Responders – HOT SAUCE CHALLENGE FUNDRAISER in benefit of Peel Crime Stoppers.
The competition was held Wednesday, October 13th at Meadowvale's Drake A Firkin Pub in collaboration with sponsors Salem's Lott Hot Sauces and Banas Stones. Members from Peel First Responders included (RCMP, OPP, Peel Regional Police, Peel Paramedics, Mississauga Fire, Brampton Fire, Caledon Fire, Respond Search & Rescue and Boots On The Ground) competed in teams in a game of "hot sauce supremacy" with spice levels ranging from 50,000 – 2,000,000 on the Scoville scale. Stonehooker Brewery Company helped challengers extinguish the heat with their award-winning beers Broad Reach and Chill Pils. Peel First Responders leadership and family members were also in attendance cheering on their favourite team. Peel Crime Stoppers is a volunteer charitable organization that relies on donations from the public to operate the anonymous 1 800 222 8477 tip line. The Clarkson BIA sponsored its ANNUAL HALLOWEEN TRICK-OR-TREAT EVENT on Saturday, October 30th between 10am and 2pm. Despite a cool and intermittently misty morning, colourful Halloween costumes were plentiful as trick-or-treaters visited various Clarkson Village merchants who themselves were often decked out in interesting attire.
