City of Mississauga Among Top 20 Best Locations in Canada For the fifth year in a row, the City of Mississauga’s Economic Development Office (EDO) ranked in the top 20 local and regional groups representing Canada’s Best Locations by Site Selection magazine. The ranking is based on corporate end-user facility investment, job creation data and the magazine’s own research. “Our ranking confirms Mississauga is a great place to invest and do business,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “We are a magnet for businesses looking to invest and home to a high-skilled workforce. More people come to Mississauga to work each day than leave to work elsewhere. That speaks volumes to our Economic Development Office’s efforts in creating an environment where businesses of any size can prosper, grow and thrive. Our strategic location, highly-skilled and talented workforce is unmatched, and we will continue to uphold this advantage to both attract and retain businesses that help shape our City.”

CAR WASH AND BBQ By Susan Gibbins ■ Photography by Peeter Poldre
A community FUNdraiser was hosted by V-Plus Car Wash in collaboration with Peel Regional Police and Rotary Club of Brampton in benefit of Peel Crime Stoppers. Stopper the Mascot along with dedicated volunteers from Peel Crime Stoppers and Peel Regional Police rolled up their sleeves with a goal to wash one hundred vehicles over three hours on Saturday, August 28th. This initiative was organized with the aim to raise awareness for the Crime Stoppers program and deposited over ($1400) into the piggy bank. With their $20 donations, patrons enjoyed a hot dog (compliments of Zabiha Halal) and samosa as well as a cold drink while they waited for their cars to be washed and dried. Leadership from Peel Regional Police included Deputy Chief, Marc Andrews and Peel Regional Police Association President, Adrian Woolley. Honourable guests Brampton Mayor, Patrick Brown and Caledon Mayor, Allan Thompson made a pitstop to lend their support. Best wishes were received from Region of Peel Chair, Nando Iannicca and Mississauga Mayor, Bonnie Crombie. Peel Crime Stoppers is a volunteer organization that is not funded by government and relies on public donations to operate the (1 800 222 8477) anonymous tip line. Visit peelcrimestoppers.ca to learn more about the program and how to participate in future community events. 6

PARKLAND ON THE GLEN
The Parkland on the Glen residents were busy again, donating their time to support another great local cause – ALZHEIMER SOCIETY PEEL.
POG card makers, Marguerite, Margaret, Barb and Norma Jean were busy making greeting cards which were sold at the Streetsville Market on a Saturday in July and again in August. The type of art mediums included photography, paper art, pencil drawings and line art. Mayor Crombie even came by and helped their fundraising efforts by purchasing some cards.

SUGAR RUSH Mississauga Article and Photography by Peeter Poldre
10
NEIGHBOURHOODMAGA ZINE .CA
Sugar Rush ran in Mississauga between August 6 and September 6 at the Square One Shopping Centre (Lot 6). The original event was in Los Angeles, California and celebrated early post-pandemic successes. Sugar Rush featured 50,000 square feet of pure "Candytropolis", featuring colourful installations, one-of-a kind art displays, live performances and candy-powered interactions. It was an immersive open-air experience, but with safety in mind, ticketed capacity was limited to permit social distancing. Families with kids enjoyed the walk-through and took advantage of numerous colourful photo opportunities.
Sugar Rush was produced in aid of Epilepsy Toronto, Canada’s leading source of support for people with epilepsy and their families. The organization provides critical counselling and advocacy services to those in crisis, seizure accommodation strategies, and epilepsy awareness in the public at large.

BBQ CELEBRATING OUR FRONT LINE HEROES By Susan Gibbins | Photography by Peeter Poldre
It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon, on August 1st, for the first Community BBQ recognizing PEEL Front Line Heroes at Meadowvale Conservation. During the 3 hour free BBQ, many friends and family and local dignitaries stopped by to show their support and enjoy some delicious food, play some games, listen to live music and run to the Ice Cream Truck when it showed up.
Community Partners, Spirit of Pentecost, Ashley’s No Frills, Kebab Factory and CUPE Local 966 set up tents and were on hand to show their support. Kids and adults alike loved getting all sorts of balloon creations, checking out the fire trucks and talking with all the Front Line Heroes. Also in attendance was Boots On The Ground, a confidential, caring and compassionate peer support to First Responders across the Province of Ontario.
THANK YOU #FRONTLINEHEROES! 12

Support local with this tasty
BRUNCH Recipe
BUTTERNUT SQUASH AND SHALLOT HASH WITH FRIED EGGS Prep Time: 20 mins ı Cook Time: 20 mins ı Serves: 4
Recently, many of us have started shopping for more local foods to support Canadian jobs. Not only does this help our economy, it also helps us reduce our carbon footprint and eat more sustainably.
INGREDIENTS
For example, buying Canada Grade A eggs ensures your eggs have travelled from farm to grocery store in less than five days. This means cooking with eggs is an easy way to support local farmers and the other local businesses they support, all while boosting your protein intake.
1 tbsp (15 mL) finely chopped fresh rosemary
In need of some local food inspiration? For your next brunch, try this tasty hash featuring delicious eggs and autumn flavours. You can customize it further by adding your own preferred selection of seasonal ingredients, be it another kind of squash or root vegetable. It’s perfect for a cozy meal with family and friends.
1 tbsp (15 mL) olive oil 4 eggs 1/2 cup (125 mL) chopped shallots 1/3 cup (75 mL) diced pancetta 1 red pepper, chopped 2 1/2 oz (70 g) butternut squash, peeled, seeded and cubed 1/2 cup (125 mL) low-sodium chicken broth 3 tbsp (15 mL) butter, divided 1 tbsp (15 mL) apple cider vinegar 1 tbsp (15 mL) honey 1/4 cup (60 mL) grated Parmesan cheese 2 tbsp (30 mL) finely chopped fresh chives 1/2 tsp (2.5 mL) each salt and pepper, divided Pinch hot pepper flakes
DIRECTIONS STEP 1: Heat oil in large skillet set over medium heat; cook shallots, pancetta, red pepper, rosemary and hot pepper flakes for 3 to 5 minutes or until vegetables start to soften and pancetta starts to brown. STEP 2: Stir in butternut squash, 1/4 tsp each salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 7 minutes or until squash starts to brown. Stir in broth, 1 tbsp butter, vinegar and honey. STEP 3: Cover and cook for 6 to 8 minutes or until liquid is absorbed and squash is tender. Sprinkle with Parmesan and chives. STEP 4: While hash cooks, melt 2 tbsp of butter in nonstick skillet set over medium heat; break eggs into skillet. Season with remaining salt and pepper.
YOU CAN SUBSTITUTE PARMESAN FOR FINELY CRUMBLED GOAT CHEESE OR FETA CHEESE. OR SUBSTITUTE A PINCH OF SMOKED PAPRIKA FOR HOT PEPPER FLAKES IF DESIRED.
STEP 5: Cover and cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until egg whites are just set for sunny-side up, or cook until done as desired. Divide hash among four plates. Top each serving with a fried egg. Find more recipes at eggs.ca.
