IRELAND MUSEUM’S HERITAGE PIE WORKSHOP BY LESLIE STYLES

NEO 1 Paint & Décor is a ONESTOP SHOP for your home décor needs from premium Benjamin Moore paint, wallpaper, blinds and a variety of décor items.

THE AROMA OF freshly baked pie filled the kitchen at Ireland Museum’s Heritage Pie workshop on February 23rd. Guests attending the hands-on workshop chatted as they prepared a variety of pies; traditional apple, caramel peach crumble and a savoury beef and mushroom pie. While Marian baked the pastries in the open hearth, the guests learned about the Ireland family by touring the house at Oakridge Farm. Finally, the pies were baked and ready as all the guests met at the large kitchen table to devour the results of their effort. An unbaked pie and recipe cards were distributed for takehome baking. Everyone enjoyed the ambience of baking pastry with friends the old-fashioned way; over an open hearth.

Real Estate Rick Real Estate Broker, Rick Jensen loves what he does. Born and raised in Burlington, Rick and his team strive to offer the best real estate experience possible to their clients, every time. “I love what I do. I enjoy helping people navigate through the process of buying or selling a home and making it as ‘stress free’ as possible. BY JASON STACEY

How did you get your start in Real Estate? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

6

NEIGHBOURHOODMAGA ZINE .CA

MY WIFE AND I have been involved in real estate for many years. We both have a real passion for it. So, I decided that if there is something that you are that passionate about, you should really invest yourself into it and do it full-time. So, I took my sales and marketing experience and put it to work in real estate. When did you know you made the right decision to become a Realtor? Right after my first sale. We met this really nice family who came to Canada with their two children from the Philippines. We started talking about real estate one afternoon and they mentioned that they would love to buy a house one day but didn’t know how. After some preliminary meetings at my office, we connected them with a mortgage broker, started the search process, and after a short period of

time, they fell in love with a home and purchased it. The smile on their faces on the day of closing was the moment I knew this was for me. What do you love most about being a Realtor? Most people would probably think that it’s all the free time we are allotted. I can tell you that is the furthest thing from the truth. I have less free time now than ever before. I’m not complaining though, I love what I do. The real reason I enjoy being a Realtor is helping people navigate through the process of buying or selling a home, and making it as ‘stress free’ as possible. We are so good at what we do, we often receive feedback like; “Rick Jensen and his team are simply the best!!!!” and “They say that moving is one of the biggest stresses in life however, Rick made the process absolutely seamless and actually quite enjoyable.”

What trends do you see right now in Real Estate and where do we go from here? The market is still a sellers market as inventory is quite low. And, according to the local real estate board, 2020 will continue to outpace the previous years. Condominiums are outpacing other types of homes when it comes to affordability, attracting first time buyers to the market. What are the things that separate you from other Realtors in your area? My background is in sales and marketing and I brought this experience to my real estate business. This is something not afforded to many other agents today and this is what makes the difference in how we market a home. We don’t just hang a ‘For Sale’ sign, hold an open house and hope for the best. We market extensively, network, stage, contact past clients, work with other agents, knock on doors, do agent open houses, hold ‘VIP Open Houses’ (ask us about this one…it’s great) and of course, hold public open houses. We work the process tirelessly until the home is sold. Our program is so successful that in the past we have been able to sell homes others could not.

What are the keys to being a successful Realtor? Being a successful realtor takes a lot of hard work, time, and dedication. For me the key has always been, be straight up with people. Don’t tell them what they want to hear just to get a listing. Just be honest. Educate them. Inform them. I share as much as I can about what is going on in the market. I get them engaged and I keep them informed every step of the way. Our communication has been a key factor to our success…or should I say, our clients success. Tell us about your team? We have an amazing team. Hard working and dedicated, Megan takes care of all the administration details so nothing gets missed or overlooked. Nathan has been a great addition to our team. His focus is on dedicating his time to clients looking to purchase or lease a home. His patience when working with clients is always appreciated by them. Nathan will go to great lengths to ensure people find the right home at the right price. Lucie helps us with all of our commercial clients. She is well connected and really knows this side of the business. We also have a strong focus on investment properties as well. So as you can see, we are engaged in every aspect of real estate. Please share with our readers one of your success stories? I’d love to. I received a referral from a past client of mine for a property that had been listed with another agent, but after quite some time on the market, it didn’t sell. I agreed to meet with the home owners to discuss their situation. The moment I walked in the door, I was blown away with the home. This home was fabulous; sitting on an amazing property with incredible features throughout. We spoke at great length about their home. My immediate response was, “we need to get people in the front door. Once people see this home from the inside, they will be amazed at all it has to offer”. After the meeting I agreed to market their home. We put our marketing campaign in place, and before you knew it, we sold thier home. They were so happy. What is one piece of advice you’d give to someone who is thinking of selling their home? Be informed. Hire an agent that knows the market. Being a full-time real estate team, we spend countless hours studying the market. We have an ‘8 Steps to Becoming An Informed Home Seller’ guide that is available on our website. If you reach out, we’d be happy to send you a copy.

that are extremely popular, as well as breads, croissants, danish, cookies and so much more. “The sunflower flaxseed bread is great for grilled cheese and it doesn’t matter what cheese you use,” explains Maria. “The bread makes it a gourmet style sandwich.” As a way of giving back to the community, all leftovers that contain no meat or cheese are donated to the food bank at the end of each day. So don’t forget to drop into the Flour Child Bakery when you’re in the area (and check out the pretzel cookies!).

with CHOPPED TOMATO GARLIC BRUSCHETTA MIXTURE

I LOVE Chicken Schnitzel, it’s one of my favourite guilty indulgences. No guilt with this one. It is baked, full of good nutrients, loaded with flavour and is a sure winner each time! Quinoa flakes replace the traditional breadcrumbs and can be found in any whole foods store. Make it with the Chopped Tomato Garlic Bruschetta Mixture or not! Either way, you will love it! Serves 4-6

Ingredients

Directions STEP 1. Preheat oven to Broil. Arrange the rack to second from the top position. Line cookie sheet with foil and spray with the coconut oil spray. STEP 2. Mix together in a medium size bowl Quinoa Coating ingredients, place in shallow dish. Place egg in another shallow dish, place flour in a third shallow dish. Arrange dishes so that flour is first, then egg, then coating. STEP 3. Dip each pice of chicken in flour, shake off excess. Dip in egg, then coat in Quinoa Coating mixture. Lay coated chicken piece on oiled cookie sheet. Repeat with all the chicken. STEP 4. Lightly spray each piece of chicken with oil). STEP 5. Broil for 3-5 minutes, flip pieces over, broil for 3-5 more minutes.
