The Horse Report The dangers of Spring and Autumn pastures
By FEEDXL EQUINE NUTRITION
As temperatures warm up heading into Spring or cool down heading into Autumn, you will start to notice your pastures changing as temperature and moisture conditions change.
In Spring you will usually see a rapid growth of lush pasture while in Autumn, depending on the climate you may see a flush of growth similar to that of Spring in warmer climates, or you may simply get a slower growth of lush pasture in cooler areas.
While this new growth is usually a welcome sight and means horses are able to return to or remain out on pasture, this new pasture can present some unique problems for horses.
Spring and Autumn are well known as ‘danger times’for laminitis and it is not uncommon to find more horses with diarrhoea, behavioural problems and colic during these periods. So, what is it about pastures growing during these seasons that make them unique and how can they be managed?
Lush Spring and Autumn pastures can contain as little as 15% dry matter meaning they are up
to 85% water.
Because of the extremely high water content of these pastures, horses need to graze for long periods and eat large amount of pasture to ingest their required amount of 90% dry matter feed. For example, a 500 kg horse grazing a 15% dry matter pasture would need to eat over 60 kg of this pasture in order to consume 10 kg of 90% dry matter feed (equivalent to 2% of bodyweight). If pasture quantity is low (for example your pasture is overgrazed) this is a major challenge and can result in horses doing poorly on lush new pastures, even though on a dry matter basis they are high in digestible
energy and crude protein. There is also very little fibre present in pastures during these early growth stages.
Fibre that remains undigested to some extent as it passes the whole way through the digestive tract is important for the normal functioning of the gastrointestinal tract and the formation of manure.
Horses that are not given an additional source of fibre when on lush young grass may experience diarrhoea and are at a higher risk of colic associated with a low gut fill.
Young, lush pastures can be high in nitrates.
Nitrate is irritating to the gut and
one of the most common symptoms of high nitrate intake is diarrhoea that may also be associated with mild to severe colic. Grasses in the very early vegetative stages of growth can contain as much as 25 to 30% crude protein on a dry matter basis. While for most healthy horses this doesn’t present a problem, horses in very heavy work may find that the high crude protein level adds to their digestive heat load and will also increase urine production as the body works to rid itself of the excess nitrogen. In situations where water balance is important and water isn’t always readily available (for example in endurance horses during competition), the combination of more digestive heat and increased urination can lead to an increased risk of dehydration. Horses that are stabled overnight or during the day and allowed to graze the remainder of the time may also experience problems associated with these high levels of protein.
Excess protein causes the distinct ammonia smell often detectable when mucking out stables, which in poorly ventilated areas can cause respiratory problems for the horse.

The Horse Report
Spookiness, aggression, and muscle problems
From page 4
Rapidly growing pastures contain high levels of potassium and low levels of magnesium. While not proven in horses, excessive potassium can reduce the absorption of magnesium (possibly through its effect on the DCAD, or cation, anion difference of this diet which can then affect tissue sensitivity to parathyroid hormone) and increase magnesium excretion from the body.
This effect is observed in other animal species including humans.
This reduced magnesium absorption, increased magnesium excretion and an already low level of magnesium in the pasture is thought to cause chronic magnesium deficiency in horses.
Young rapidly growing pastures can also contain high levels of nitrate which also increases magnesium excretion from the body. Other factors associated with some pastures including low levels of selenium and a high phytoestrogen content in clover dominant pastures can also exacerbate magnesium deficiency.
Magnesium deficiency (and the resulting active vitamin B1 deficiency) can cause normally quiet, calm horses to become ‘spooky’, behave erratically and become excited easily, show signs of incoordination, muscle tenseness, soreness or twitching and in severe cases may become dangerously aggressive and exhibit unusual herding behaviour.
Perhaps the condition that has received the most attention in association with spring and autumn pastures is laminitis.
Green pastures use the process of photosyn-
thesis to create non-structural carbohydrates (NSC) from sunshine, water and carbon dioxide.
Under good growing conditions the plant uses these NSCs as fuel for its own growth. However, if the plant is stressed in any way or subjected to temperatures too low for growth to occur over several days, these carbohydrates will continue to be produced and will accumulate in the plants leaf and stem tissue for later use.
When horses with insulin dysregulation who are prone to laminitis graze these pastures with the high levels of accumulated NSC, laminitis can develop.
Other characteristics of spring and autumn pastures may also increase the risk of laminitis for prone horses.
High levels of nitrate have also been suggested as a cause of laminitis in horses and dairy cattle, though the role of nitrates in laminitis is not clear.
Pastures that are subjected to frosts or those that contain capeweed are of particular risk for nitrates, especially following application of nitrogen fertiliser.
Feeding to reduce the impact of spring and autumn pastures
There are some simple management techniques you can use to reduce the negative impact of spring and autumn pastures on your horse’s health, including:
Provide your horses with a supplementary source of fibre in the form of hay, chaff or haylage.
Give them access to free choice hay equivalent to at least 0.5% bodyweight (2.5 kg for a 500 kg horse) every 24 hours.
The extra fibre in these feeds will improve gut fill and manure consistency reducing the risk of colic and diarrhoea and also help your horse to consume the calories he needs when pasture water content is very high.
If high protein intake is an issue, provide lower protein grass or meadow hay or chaff before being turned out onto pasture.
Have your Spring or Autumn pasture tested and use this information together with FeedXLto rebalance any imbalance.
Care must also be taken to provide enough salt to meet sodium requirements as a sodium deficiency reportedly increases the likelihood of a magnesium deficiency in some horses. Manage grazing times to reduce the risk of laminitis.
If NSCs are suspected as causing issues for your horse you should restrict grazing to only the very early hours of the morning, removing the at-risk horse from pasture by 2 hours after sunrise.
If nitrates are suspected (for example on postdrought pastures or capeweed infested pastures) horses should only be allowed to graze in the late afternoon and into the early evening.
Don’t overgraze your pasture.

The Horse Report Front line tool for breeding and health monitoring
Supplied by MAGIC BREED
When it comes to foaling, ontime human intervention - if needed - is crucial to ensure a successful outcome.
This also applies to horses after surgery or for detecting colic.
Magic Breed has earnt the trust of breeders and veterinarians as a crucial frontline tool. This is a non-invasive approach for the animal, the pouch is small and lightweight attaching to the halter which tucks up underneath. You will be alerted when the animal lays down, which would indicate foaling or a health issue, depending on which scenario you are monitoring.
This product was designed and manufactured here in Australia more than 40 years ago, starting with the original Magic Breed, this system has continued to service breeders for more than 30 years in Australia and New Zealand.
In recent years, Magic Breed have moved with technology hence the birth of the Magic Breed Plus system, giving breeders a plethora of enhanced features.
They still support the original Magic Breed system, as there are still many systems going strong out there after 20-30 years of use.
No wifi or phone service is required so no dropouts.
Magic Breed Plus's operating system works on a 917MHz frequency, providing it with greatly improved immunity to interference and superior range - 500m is no problem and in excess of 1km is possible. All you require is power to plug in the base station (receiver).
While this means that it won't work with the 27MHz antenna from the original Magic Breed system, we guarantee that the performance is so good that the external antenna won't be necessary.
You can also monitor up to eight mares at the same time
on the same system.
If you need more, just add another receiver base.
If you have two locations on your property that you require to be alerted at, at the same time, we can accommodate that as well.
The addition of an LCD display on the Magic Breed Plus receiver provides a wealth of operator feedback.
This includes signal strength and battery level, along with individual identification for up to eight transmitters.

Nutrition requirements for foals outside of milk
By FEEDXL
If you are looking at your foal’s diet in FeedXLit is crucial you include mum’s milk. It is a goldmine of nutrients for your foal and must be taken into account.
Forget the milk and you will end up overfeeding, which will then cause problems with growth that is too fast.
OK you say, I will include the milk, but how?
I know right, it’s a bit tricky because the foal just drinks it and you have no way of measuring how much he drinks.
But lucky for you, your mare produces a reasonably consistent amount of milk for her foal, so depending on the age of the foal, you can calculate how much milk he is probably drinking.
It won’t be perfect, but it is a lot better than not including it at all.
Here at FeedXLwe don’t recommend you balance a diet for a foal until he is at least three months of age.
Up until this age, his mother’s milk and stores of minerals in the liver will fully meet requirements.
So even though he will start to eat with his mother as early as a few days of age he doesn’t need this extra feed to meet his nutrient requirements.
After three months of age your foal will start to rely on nutrition outside of milk to meet his requirements, but milk still provides a lot of nutrition, so it must be included in his diet in FeedXL.
Here’s how to include milk in your FeedXL diets:
1. Calculate the amount of milk he is getting from his mother. At three months of age, her milk production will be around 2.5% of her bodyweight per day.
To calculate 2.5% of her bodyweight: 2.5/100 = 0.025
0.025 x BW = amount of milk per day in kg or lb
So for a 500 kg (1100 lb) mare this would be: 0.025 x 500 kg = 12.5 kg per day
(or 0.025 x 1100 lb = 27.5 lb per day)
2. Create your foal in FeedXLwith his correct date of birth and bodyweight. It is so important to get bodyweight correct. The only real way to do this is to weigh your foal (sorry, no easy tricks on this one).
3. Enter your foal’s pasture and/or hay, then add the milk at 2.5% of his mother’s bodyweight using the calculation above.
4. Check the diet to see what is missing and add a balancer pellet or feed to fill in the gaps.
TIP: Use the supplement finder to find a product that will top up the required mineral and vitamin levels.
Pasture + Milk + 600 grams of Balancer Pellet (that I found using the Supplement Finder) –and you are done, requirements met without exceeding digestible energy requirement! Note FeedXLmay warn you that forage requirement is not met. For foals, you have my permission to politely ignore FeedXLon this one as long as
he/she has constant access to pasture and/or hay.
It is so super important to remember the milk.
If you don’t, you run the risk of overfeeding your foal and that will almost certainly cause you to run into issues with developmental disease in the bones and joints.
In addition to feeding your foal properly, you need to make sure the mother has a balanced diet as well.

TIPS FOR MANAGING THE THIRD TRIMESTER
As mares progress to their last trimester, they go through the most changes, this may be daunting and uncomfortable for the mare. Here are a few pointers on how you can support your mare nutritionally through the final stages, before your new four-legged friend hits the ground!
1.Ensure she is meeting her calcium needs. Although nutritional needs should be met throughout the pregnancy, they increase in the last trimester due to this being the time in which the foal will do most of their growing.
2.Understand your pasture. This is a big one as oxalate levels in different types of grasses can cause calcium deficiencies if not supplemented correctly. The same goes for toxins in various grasses which can cause neurological symptoms or damage.
3.Omega 3s are hugely important! Not only for brain development but also for placental integrity. Studies have found mares who had a higher level of omega 3 in their diets were able to maintain placental integrity. Compared to mares without omega 3 supplementation who were more likely to suffer from broken or fragmented placentas. Note: horses are herbivores so ALWAYS look for plant-based omega 3 oils, NOT fish oils! Remember, omega 3s are not high in all plant oils, only flaxseed and chia oils are high omega 3 oils from plant based sources.
4.Probiotics have gained quite the reputation over the recent years especially for equine health. Improving the mares microbial balance will not only support the mare’s immune function, but it will improve the milk and bacteria via the mare’s milk, this will assist in building the foals immune system.
Here are just a few of our tips to help you improve your mares health this year, for strong healthy foal. If you have any questions or queries, please don’t hesitate to contact our Nutritionists on (03) 9775 6422 or enq@hiform.com.au

HERBAL TUNE UP WHY YOUR HORSE NEEDS A SEASONAL DETOX
By Karyn Campbell Naturopath & Equine Herbalist
WHY DETOX?
Detoxifying your horse at the start of every season with high-quality herbs can offer several benefits, promoting overall health and well-being. Here are some reasons why this practice might be beneficial:
Remove Toxins: Over time, horses can accumulate toxins from various sources such as environmental pollutants, feed additives, and chemicals. Herbal detoxification can help remove these toxins from their bodies.
Boost Immune System: Certain herbs can strengthen the immune system, making horses more resilient to seasonal illnesses and infections.
Support Liver and Kidney Function:: The liver and kidneys are crucial for filtering out toxins. Herbs like milk thistle and dandelion can support these organs, enhancing their function.
Improve Digestion: Seasonal changes can affect a horse’s digestive system. Herbs like peppermint and fennel can aid in digestion and prevent gastrointestinal issues.
Enhance Coat and Skin Health: Detoxifying can result in a shinier coat and healthier skin, as toxins can often manifest as skin problems.
Increase Energy Levels: Removing toxins and improving organ function can lead to higher energy levels and better overall vitality.
WE DETOX
Reduce Inflammation: Some herbs have anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce inflammation and associated pain, particularly beneficial for older horses or those with joint issues.
Adapt to Seasonal Changes: As seasons change, so do the demands on a horse’s body. Detoxifying can help them adjust more smoothly to changes in weather, diet, and activity levels.
It's essential to use high-quality herbs to ensure the best results and avoid potential contaminants. Consulting with a Equine Herbalist before starting a detox regimen is also recommended to tailor the approach to your horse's specific needs and health conditions.

Cryotherapy the game changing technology
Cryotherapy delivers intensive long-lasting pain relief as well as accelerated healing to targeted areas.
Cryotherapy uses liquid medical-grade CO2 to cool tissues to 4°C in less than 30 seconds.
The sudden temperature change triggers a thermal shock response, leading to the release of pain-blocking hormones, dilation of blood vessels (to 4 times their usual size), increased blood flow, toxin flushing, and the delivery of oxygenated blood, hormones, nutrients, and activated enzymes to the treated area.
The healing and repair process of damaged and fatigued tissue has now begun.
This advanced treatment can achieve what ice does in 20 minutes within seconds.
This is a 'dry cold' treatment so there is no risk of frostbite burn or soft tissue damage which can happen with traditional icing methods.
decreases the need or frequency to medicate joints, improves overall wellbeing and is non swabbable.
Combined with equine mas-
sage therapy to manipulate your horse muscles, you can address many pain and soundness performance issues with your horse and thereby
improve their performance, biomechanics and. most importantly, their overall wellbeing, prevent injuries and aid in recovery.

There are in fact many reasons. It all starts with the humble Rosehip, the berry-like fruit of the wild rose bush species Rosa Canina. A wholefood known to be one of nature’s richest sources of natural vitamin C. A superfood containing 8 naturally occurring vitamins (including C, E, B1 and B6) and 23 minerals (including iron, copper, zinc and magnesium), essential fatty acids (omegas 3, 6 and 9),
You may already know rosehips are often fed to horses for immune system support and a
improved circulation and improved digestive function. So you’re probably wondering what makes Rose-Hip Vital® so special?
Rose-Hip Vital® is made from Rosehips manufactured with patented extraction and drying processes which isolate and activate a galactolipid (fatty acid) called GOPO®. GOPO® has clinically proven anti-
The patented processes also concentrate and preserve the naturally occurring vitamins and minerals, transforming Rose-Hip Vital® into a product that is both in a category all on its own, and across many; It’s a joint
antioxidant and a nutritional supplement. It delivers noticeable improvements to mobility, mood, condition, willingness to move forward, performance and recovery while reducing
improving general health and wellbeing, and boosting immunity.
Rose-Hip Vital® is a clinically proven plantand rich source of natural vitamin C. There is no product like it. Unlike other joint supplements, Rose-Hip Vital® is 100% plant-
Rose-Hip Vital® is safe for long term use and it does not swab. It can be used alongside conventional treatments and supplements as well as potentially replacing or reducing the medication.
Horses like it so much, even the fussiest of eaters become more enthusiastic about their feed once Rose-Hip Vital is added. So while Rose-Hip Vital Equine has become a highly use, it also has become highly recommended for improving general health and wellbeing, improving performance and maintaining healthy joints.
How does Rose-Hip Vital® Equine lengthen the lifetime of a working horse?
Vital is comprehensive. There are in excess of placebo controlled clinical trials on people, dogs and horses mainly focusing on antithe unique compound GOPO.
To many people, antioxidants and anti-aging go hand-in-hand. Antioxidants are talked about as the antidote to cell-damaging free radicals. Exercise and the associated stress and increase in oxygen consumption are linked to an increased production of free radicals. When the production of free radicals overwhelms the body’s antioxidant defences, oxidative stress can occur with subsequent
research shows horses need natural vitamin C to help block toxic free radical activity, which causes damage throughout the body including joints and cartilage.
Some white blood cells in the body contain granulocytes which enable them to ‘clean’
bacteria in it. Too many of these white blood cells wear down tissue cartilage. In large numbers they can also produce chemical enzymes and toxic freeradicals which cause even more tissue damage. Excess accumulation of white blood cells combined with the release of chemical substances cause’s joint pain
The more becomes, the more the white blood cells are attracted to it –a painful cycle.
protects cartilage. This means it helps to delay the onset of arthritic changes or slow down further cartilage degeneration if it already exists.
In short, if you want to extend the lifetime of your working horse, feed it a natural antirich source of natural vitamin C. Rose-Hip Vital® Equine is your only option, and the results speak for themselves.

“BYE BYE FLY”
QUEENSLAND ITCH, SWEET ITCH, SUMMER ECZEMA and EQUINE
ALLERGIC DERMATITIS are names for distressing skin conditions which affects horses in spring and summer months throughout Australia and around the world.
The usual cause is a hypersensitivity to the bites of flies (in particular sand flies or midges).
While the bite of the flies are an irritation, some horses develop sensitivity to the bite and will rub themselves so much that they cause injury to their skin.
Research shows the cause is an allergic reaction to the chemicals in the saliva of the midges (as with humans).
Not only that, but once or twice a day, stable lies come to the horse, feed vigorously for a minute or two, and then return to the shade to digest their food. These bites can cause intense irritation in some horses. The bites appear as small raised lumps with a central scab.
The effects on the horses can be dramatic. They suffer intense pruritus (itchiness) on the mane, tail, face, ears and back, resulting in biting, rubbing, hair loss, self-trauma and a change of temperament. They become miserable and irritable.
KURITCH has been specially formulated to help assist this problem effectively, in a number of ways:
Firstly, it repels the biting insects using the combination of the natural repellent “Citronella Oil” and a highly effective repellent “DEET”. Secondly, it soothes the irritated areas thus relieving the horse from biting and rubbing, which in turn allows the normal healing process to begin.
Also rugging, hooding or stabling your horses between the hours of 4pm – 7am during spring and summer will limit the contact of the flies.
Should your horse already be suffering from the effects of allergic skin dermatitis, ensure you use QUIT ITCH to treat and relieve the effects of insect bites.
Since the 1970’s, QUIT ITCH has been an essential weapon in the fight against skin disorders in horses.
It achieves this by the inclusion of the natural antiseptic “Eucalyptus oil” and Camphor oil” which naturally relieves itchy skin.
These significant benefits are also enhanced by the “Rain Resistant” and “Low irritant” formula. As it doesn’t contain alcohol (prevalent in most fly sprays) it won’t “sting” the horse. It can also be applied to surface wounds, minor cuts and skin abrasions to help prevent irritation and possible infection by nuisance insects.
Registered by the APVMA in Australia for over 40 years, extensive field experience has proven KURITCH to be a most effective solution for both preventing and healing distressing skin conditions caused by biting insects.
As well as KURITCH as a repellent, environmental management will also assist in protecting your horse.
Midges breed near stagnant water. As they don’t fly more than a few hundred metres from their breeding area, housing or paddocking your horses more than 500 metres from those areas will reduce their exposure to the flies.

The Horse Report
The importance of trailer maintenance
Most horse owners don’t think about their horse float until something goes wrong. But a horse float, like a car, requires regular attention to keep it running effectively and to ensure it is safe to carry your precious equine friend.
Horse floats are often abused as much as they are used: they get kicked and bitten, they get left outside in all weathers, driven on gravel and dirt tracks and, to add insult to injury, they get regularly covered in manure and urine.
Ensure regular maintenance and services are arranged.
Trailer and caravan manufacturers recommend that wheel bearings and brakes are serviced every 10,000km or 12 months. Take time to clean your float.
If hosed out, park your float on a descent to ensure run off water can drain.
Sweep out horse urine and manure - these must be cleaned out after every use and not left in the float for extended periods of time. All walls and surfaces should be kept in good clean order.
Cleaning your float, not only sets up a more comfortable ride for your horses, but highlights any areas needing attention.
The wheel bearings should be checked and re-greased six to 12 months after purchase, then 12 monthly thereafter.
Wheel nuts should be checked to ensure tightness after the first 200km and than six monthly intervals thereafter.
Suspension grease nipples must be regularly
checked and re-greased every 12 months. Check that the lights and indicators are all in good working order get underneath your float and have a good look at the floor and suspension – you might find a torch helps with this.
You are looking for obvious signs of fatigue such as: cracks in the welds and frame, rust, bowed or bent support beams, cracked or sagging flooring, broken brake lines and frayed wiring.
Then have a good look at the tyres and ensure they are safe and are wearing evenly. Tyre pressures should be checked regularly and should read 40 PSI.
Now get inside your float and if you can, pull up the back edge of the rubber matting – check for signs of deterioration in the floor and rust in the frame where the tailgate attaches to the float.
The external surfaces should also be cared
for as you would your car.
For longevity try to wash and wax your float regularly especially if the float will spend extensive periods outside.
It is also important to check your float windows and access points for any water leaks that may appear due to movement of the float and normal wear and tear.
If a water leak is found, it is important to rectify this straight away to avoid any damage to the paintwork or structure of your float.
Normal silicone sealant is fine for this. Preventative maintenance and care is the key factor in keeping your float looking brand new, as well as safe
If you service your float annually and conduct regular visual safety checks you should get years of reliable and safe use from your horse float and be comforable knowing your “passenger” is safe.
Regularly check float floors and wheel bearings to ensure the safety of your horse.

Young Horses are a huge responsibility
By TANJA KRAUS
"Quiet kids Pony. Bobby is green broken".
These words taken from an actual advertisement. Please understand that "kids pony" and "green Broken" do not belong in the same sentence.
The thing with quiet horses is that a non confident rider, or even a confident rider without the right skill set can turn them into a spooky horse in a matter of weeks, if not DAYS!
How many stories have you heard from people who bought a "bombproof" horse only to find they were no longer bombproof in a short period of time. I know we all want to blame the big bad trainers, and the sellers, but I can give you a newsflash - they aren't all drugged! Young horses are a huge responsibility, and our biggest role in their life is preserving or developing their confidence. We all understand and probably relate to the developing part of that sentence, but what we don't understand is that a horse that is confident by its very nature needs that confidence preserved by a skilled rider and owner.
Learning together is some next level romantic bullshit too-- learning is so much easier and more fun when you have a great coach, leader, trainer, mentor--the
same goes for your horse--can a green horse and green rider learn together--yep they sure can, but when shit hits the fan and you both don't know what to do-you've let your horse down, because you are the one who is supposed to know what to do to keep him, and you, safe.
Don't buy kids green horses, and don't buy a young horse to learn together. Buy an amazing, confident, older, wiser horse--sure thing, he may need a little less work and a bit more love to look after his ageing joints, but boy what that old guy will teach you (or your kid)--priceless.
Our role in the life of a young horse is developing their confidence

New-look schedule for Summer Carnival finale
By Magic Millions
The 2024/25 Queensland Summer Racing Carnival will reach a thrilling crescendo with a newlook schedule poised to anchor its biggest days.
The Friday night meeting on the eve of The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday will be replaced with a turbo-charged twilight meeting a week earlier.
As a result, the final two meetings of the Summer Carnival will provide an incredible $20.55 million in prize money and bonuses across two feature 10-race programs conducted at the Gold Coast.
In the lead up to The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday, the penultimate Summer Carnival meeting on Saturday, January 4 swells from $1.6 million to $6.05 million and includes the new $3 million TAB Magic Millions Sunlight (3YO) slot race. Additional enhancements include the scheduling of the $1 million TAB Magic Millions The Syndicate, the $250,000 Magic Millions Maiden Plate (1400m), a $250,000 Sunlight Consolation (3YO) and a new $250,000 Magic Millions Class 6 Plate (1200m).
On the same card, prize money for The Wave doubles to $500,000 and the race will be run exclusively for Magic Millions Race Series nomi-
nated horses in 2025, however, it will no longer be age restricted, with the 1800m weight-for-age feature now available to three-yearolds and up.
The $14.5 million The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday on Saturday, January 11 also boasts a raft of enhancements headlined by the Magic Millions Cup doubling in prize money to $2 million.
The Racing Queensland Magic Millions QTIS race will also receive a $500,000 increase to $1.5
million.
"The Magic Millions is the pinnacle of the Queensland Summer Racing Carnival and it's imperative that we provide certainty to participants and attendees," Racing Queensland CEO Jason Scott said.
While the Magic Millions The Debut races were divided for colts and geldings and fillies this year, the unique $500,000 feature for two-year-olds will be run as an open race for first starters at The
Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday in 2025.
However, a $250,000 edition of Magic Millions The Debut, open to colts, geldings and fillies, will also be programmed at the Gold Coast on Friday, December 20, which is poised to be run as the club's first night meeting.
"This new schedule for Summer is the best outcome for everyone - for participants, horses and punters," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

After a ten year break from riding, Sailor has given me the experience of going from an OTTthrough to an Open Royal Show and HOTYwinner. He is elegant and refined and greatly admired. Sailor is an enjoyable horse to Show and gives a comfortable and athletic ride. He would suit an ambitious and dedicated rider who wants to consistently be in the winner’s circle.
Sailor is 100% drug free and sound and a vet check is welcome. Sailor is a very mild wind sucker however it doesn’t affect his condition or performance.

Sol has been with us for 2 years, taught my daughter an incredible amount and this is a very hard sale due to my daughter focusing on her career and getting out of horses.

Cosmo is full of character and easy to have around the stables. Easy to show prep, trim, wash, float etc. He requires confidence from his riders as he can be abit reactive to his surroundings at times. He has had limited outings due to school and work commitments.

Lulu is genuinely lovely pony in all aspects. Her temperament, movement, and breeding. Lulu has been so much fun for our girls who have done everything with her. She can be left for days and just get on a ride away, she has been ridden trail riding and mustering Lulu is easy to clip, wash, shoe, travel/float and loves every minute of being a show pony.
Lulu isn’t horse shy, matey, marey, spooky doesn’t shy and is happy to be ridden alone or in a group. She would be a fantastic second pony for a child wanting to have a bit of crack everything. Inter school, dressage, trail riding, pony club and showing.
Lulu is a genuine pony who is looking for her new little rider.

Ally has been owned by 13yr old daughter for the last 2 year and is only being sold as she is moving onto a bigger horse. Ally has taught my daughter so much in this time and it's now time for her to continue shining with her new rider. Ally always comes home with ribbons and will suit a capable child or teenager that’s going to love her like we do.
My daughter competes in interschool and show horse but Ally is a great all rounder and would also excel in pony club, dressage, is a great little jumper and enjoys trail rides. Ally is a pleasure to take out, loves attention, not much fazes this pony.
Ally is easy to catch (always meets u at the gate), bath, rug, shoe, prep for shows and travel. This pony requires minimal work before and after a ride even after having a short break. She has been fully handled by my daughter the whole time we have owned her.

Baxter is the ultimate Childs small hack, taking his nervous rider to many championships and building her confidence over the past 12 months.
Gentle and kind, he is an absolute pleasure to handle on the ground.
No work down or lunging required, Baxter will happily stand and be prepped all day long, going straight from the float into the ring and can be ridden in both a snaffle and double with no fuss. No kicking / bucking/ rearing and loads onto the float or truck easily.
Currently happily enjoying the paddock most the time and is a great paddock friend. Stabled only leading up to big comps.
Sadly his current rider has moved onto a dressage warm blood recently and won’t be competing at GN so we are searching for a new home for Baxter.

Beautiful Small Show Hack, always ridden/handled/prepared by child. Lovely to ride, very easy in every way.
Been to royal, qualified for Grand Nationals in Child's numerous times. Still relatively undiscovered as we haven't taken him far. Potential to win at Grand National level.
Extremely sad sale, we bred this horse & will be devastated to see him go. End of an era for our 3 daughters have grown up & moved on & this horse is far too good to waste in the paddock.
Entered & can be viewed at this year's Adelaide Royal Suit capable child or adult for showing at a high level, is also happy to pop around a jump course. Genuine sale of a lovely horse, vet check welcome.

Kenny is a forward moving pony with an expressive trot. He is an easy pony to handle and no dirt to ride. He does require a small work down at the Royal shows.
Has been ridden by my 9 year old and 12 year old daughters but I would say would benefit from an older rider to get the most out of Kenny.
Kenny did qualify in the Open large pony for the 2022 Grand Nationals.
Kenny is currently in paddock condition which is reflective of the price. Kenny is a high calibre pony that will be highly competitive at the highest of levels. For sale as my daughters cannot give him enough time due to polocrosse, stock horse classes, camp drafting and cheerleading
