The Horse Report Retained placenta and selenium deficiency

Do you know about the relationship between retained placenta and selenium deficiency in horses?

Retained placenta is more than just bad luck, and a lot of it comes down to one little mineral – selenium.

The cattle industry agrees. Professor Michael Lee of the University of Bristol spoke about selenium at an animal nutrition conference at the University of New England.

Listed at the top of his list of symptoms of selenium deficiency in ruminants was retained placenta.

Check out a sneak peek of his slides below.

And this is certainly what we see in horses, too.

Retained placenta as a widespread issue is almost only ever seen on breeding farms that do not supplement with selenium. In one case, a farm had more than 100 standardbred broodmares, none of which were supplemented at all during pregnancy, and retained placenta was occurring in 25% of the mares. That means one in every four mares were experiencing this

potentially life-threatening complication.

We suggested that they if they supplemented with selenium (as part of an overall balancer pellet), this shouldn’t be such an issue. They decided to experiment and gave half of the mares the balancer pellet, and the other

half they left un-supplemented. The results were clear – the supplemented mares has one mare in 60 with retained placenta. That’s less than 2%, a big reduction from 25%.

The un-supplemented mares had two with retained placenta within the first four mares to

foal.

That was enough to convince the farm of the relationship between retained placenta and selenium deficiency in horses.

They quickly decided to put all of the mares on the balancer pellet.

The interesting thing was that the incidence of the retained placenta dropped almost immediately in this group of mares who were initially un-supplemented. The nutrition of pregnant mares is so important.

This is just one more reason you should pay close attention to mineral nutrition, especially because selenium is a mineral that is often low in forages and is therefore often deficient in diets.

Should I feed my horse barley hay?

Choosing hay for your horse is hard enough, especially given the rising costs.

Settling on a variety that not only suits your horse’s needs, is easy to source and consistent in quality can be lot.

Barley hay is a variety we have been seeing more of in our online diet evaluation submissions.

While barley hay can be a good choice for your horse, it must be feed with caution and it’s important to select a good quality one.

Barley hay is generally lower in calcium, energy and protein than some other types of hay but is still a good form of roughage. It is important to note that it is also higher in sugar so should be feed with caution to certain horses.

The main concern regarding feeding barley hay is the presence of awns or seed heads. The awns are found on the end of the glumes in a spikelet that are quite sharp.

These sharp awns can lodge themselves in the gums and tongue of the horse whilst they are eating the hay, and can

become quite painful. If not checked regularly they can build up and lead to masses of the seeds being embedded in the gums, causing infection and a nasty smell. Removing the seeds is not easy and should be done with the help of a veterinarian or qualified horse dentist.

Some things you can do to help prevent your horse suffering this if you do feed barley hay is to” - Check gums and tongue regu-

larly for any signs of seeds. There are types of barley being grown that are awnless or beardless, this should be considered as a better alternative if you can source it.

- Buy hay that has been baled at a younger stage when the awns are less developed and therefore not as harmful

- If you can’t access these types of hay, you can soak your barley hay to help soften the awns before feeding.

Feeding barley hay can be beneficial especially in winter or dry times when extra roughage is needed.

However care should be taken and if you monitor your horse and choose carefully is safe to feed.

The Horse Report Front line tool for breeding and health monitoring

When it comes to foaling, ontime human intervention - if needed - is crucial to ensure a successful outcome.

This also applies to horses after surgery or for detecting colic.

Magic Breed has earnt the trust of breeders and veterinarians as a crucial frontline tool. This is a non-invasive approach for the animal, the pouch is small and lightweight attaching to the halter which tucks up underneath. You will be alerted when the animal lays down, which would indicate foaling or a health issue, depending on which scenario you are monitoring.

This product was designed and manufactured here in Australia more than 40 years ago, starting with the original Magic Breed, this system has continued to service breeders for more than 30 years in Australia and New Zealand.

In recent years, Magic Breed have moved with technology hence the birth of the Magic Breed Plus system, giving breeders a plethora of enhanced features.

They still support the original Magic Breed system, as there are still many systems going strong out there after 20-30 years of use.

No wifi or phone service is required so no dropouts.

Magic Breed Plus's operating system works on a 917MHz frequency, providing it with greatly improved immunity to interference and superior range - 500m is no problem and in excess of 1km is possible. All you require is power to plug in the base station (receiver).

While this means that it won't work with the 27MHz antenna from the original Magic Breed system, we guarantee that the performance is so good that the external antenna won't be necessary.

You can also monitor up to eight mares at the same time

on the same system.

If you need more, just add another receiver base.

If you have two locations on your property that you require to be alerted at, at the same time, we can accommodate that as well.

The addition of an LCD display on the Magic Breed Plus receiver provides a wealth of operator feedback.

This includes signal strength and battery level, along with individual identification for up to eight transmitters.

Your Magic Breed Plus foaling alarm kit is supplied in a polypropylene rubber sealed IPX7 water resistant rugged carry case for protection during storage, transportation, employs a UV resistant rubber seal to ensure dirt and moisture stay outside of the case and is shock absorbing.

Outside the case, it includes a built-in pressure release valve to ensure internal pressure to be equalised with ambient external pressure.

all times.

Magic Breed Plus, with its 100% solid state technology does not require regular servicing or adjustments.

It is designed by our in-house experienced engineers on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

The Horse Report Gestation period for mares and foaling due date

The gestation period for mares is approximately 320-370 days from the first time being bred.

To generalize, the estimation of the due date, use a 340 day gestation period.

So if you’re wanting your foal to be born in early August, you need to breed your mare in the last week of August or the first few weeks in September.

The chart pictured will help you with the dates you plan to breed and and predicting the resulting foaling date.

Once you know your mare is in foal and the rough date she is due, as the time nears one of the most stressful things about foaling is the nightly vigils to check your expectant mare.

Anyone who has been in contact with foaling mares would know the story of “My mare waxed up today, she should foal very soon”.

Two weeks later you’re walking around like a zombie with bloodshot eyes saying,“she'll foal any day now”.

When it comes to foaling, on-time human intervention, if needed, is crucial to ensure a successful outcome.

For more than 40 years, Magic Breed has earned the trust of breeders, stud farms and broodmare owners as a crucial frontline tool to accurately alert foalwatchers when a mare is readying to foal down.

Already the benchmark foal-alert product in Australia and New Zealand, the original Magic Breed monitoring system has been dramatically upgraded to take advantage of modern technology.

The new Magic Breed product builds on its worldwide reputa-

tion and brings the Magic Breed design into the 21st Century with improved range, battery life and many other new features.

Called Magic Breed Plus (pictured below), it's not only much

more affordable than the original, it also comes with a quantum leap in advanced features and benefits and offers the advantage of dealing directly with the manufacturer who has manufactured

the product since day one for the past 40 years.

Magic Breed Plus's operating system works on a 917MHz frequency, providing it with greatly improved immunity to interference and superior range - 500m is no problem and in excess of 1km is possible.

Designed from the ground up to minimise loss of sleep and long hours of supervision around foaling time, the non-invasive transmitter attaches to the halter and detects when a mare lies down in a foaling position.

The Horse Report

TIPS FOR MANAGING THE THIRD TRIMESTER

As mares progress to their last trimester, they go through the most changes, this may be daunting and uncomfortable for the mare. Here are a few pointers on how you can support your mare nutritionally through the final stages, before your new four-legged friend hits the ground!

1.Ensure she is meeting her calcium needs. Although nutritional needs should be met throughout the pregnancy, they increase in the last trimester due to this being the time in which the foal will do most of their growing.

2.Understand your pasture. This is a big one as oxalate levels in different types of grasses can cause calcium deficiencies if not supplemented correctly. The same goes for toxins in various grasses which can cause neurological symptoms or damage.

3.Omega 3s are hugely important! Not only for brain development but also for placental integrity. Studies have found mares who had a higher level of omega 3 in their diets were able to maintain placental integrity. Compared to mares without omega 3 supplementation who were more likely to suffer from broken or fragmented placentas. Note: horses are herbivores so ALWAYS look for plant-based omega 3 oils, NOT fish oils! Remember, omega 3s are not high in all plant oils, only flaxseed and chia oils are high omega 3 oils from plant based sources.

4.Probiotics have gained quite the reputation over the recent years especially for equine health. Improving the mares microbial balance will not only support the mare’s immune function, but it will improve the milk and bacteria via the mare’s milk, this will assist in building the foals immune system.

Here are just a few of our tips to help you improve your mares health this year, for strong healthy foal. If you have any questions or queries, please don’t hesitate to contact our Nutritionists on (03) 9775 6422 or enq@hiform.com.au

HERBAL TUNE UP WHY YOUR HORSE NEEDS A SEASONAL DETOX

WHY DETOX?

Detoxifying your horse at the start of every season with high-quality herbs can offer several benefits, promoting overall health and well-being. Here are some reasons why this practice might be beneficial:

Remove Toxins: Over time, horses can accumulate toxins from various sources such as environmental pollutants, feed additives, and chemicals. Herbal detoxification can help remove these toxins from their bodies.

Boost Immune System: Certain herbs can strengthen the immune system, making horses more resilient to seasonal illnesses and infections.

Support Liver and Kidney Function:: The liver and kidneys are crucial for filtering out toxins. Herbs like milk thistle and dandelion can support these organs, enhancing their function.

Improve Digestion: Seasonal changes can affect a horse’s digestive system. Herbs like peppermint and fennel can aid in digestion and prevent gastrointestinal issues.

Enhance Coat and Skin Health: Detoxifying can result in a shinier coat and healthier skin, as toxins can often manifest as skin problems.

Increase Energy Levels: Removing toxins and improving organ function can lead to higher energy levels and better overall vitality.

WE DETOX

Reduce Inflammation: Some herbs have anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce inflammation and associated pain, particularly beneficial for older horses or those with joint issues.

Adapt to Seasonal Changes: As seasons change, so do the demands on a horse’s body. Detoxifying can help them adjust more smoothly to changes in weather, diet, and activity levels.

It's essential to use high-quality herbs to ensure the best results and avoid potential contaminants. Consulting with a Equine Herbalist before starting a detox regimen is also recommended to tailor the approach to your horse's specific needs and health conditions.

Cryotherapy the game changing technology

Cryotherapy delivers intensive long-lasting pain relief as well as accelerated healing to targeted areas.

Cryotherapy uses liquid medical-grade CO2 to cool tissues to 4°C in less than 30 seconds.

The sudden temperature change triggers a thermal shock response, leading to the release of pain-blocking hormones, dilation of blood vessels (to 4 times their usual size), increased blood flow, toxin flushing, and the delivery of oxygenated blood, hormones, nutrients, and activated enzymes to the treated area.

The healing and repair process of damaged and fatigued tissue has now begun.

This advanced treatment can achieve what ice does in 20 minutes within seconds.

This is a 'dry cold' treatment so there is no risk of frostbite burn or soft tissue damage which can happen with traditional icing methods.

Cryotherapy increases mobility, reduces muscle fatigue, reduces swelling, speeds up recovery, reduces injury, boosts energy, increases stamina, improves performance,

decreases the need or frequency to medicate joints, improves overall wellbeing and is non swabbable.

Combined with equine mas-

sage therapy to manipulate your horse muscles, you can address many pain and soundness performance issues with your horse and thereby

improve their performance, biomechanics and. most importantly, their overall wellbeing, prevent injuries and aid in recovery.

What makes Rose-Hip Vital Equine stand

There are in fact many reasons. It all starts with the humble Rosehip, the berry-like fruit of the wild rose bush species Rosa Canina. A wholefood known to be one of nature’s richest sources of natural vitamin C. A superfood containing 8 naturally occurring vitamins (including C, E, B1 and B6) and 23 minerals (including iron, copper, zinc and magnesium), essential fatty acids (omegas 3, 6 and 9),

You may already know rosehips are often fed to horses for immune system support and a

improved circulation and improved digestive function. So you’re probably wondering what makes Rose-Hip Vital® so special?

Rose-Hip Vital® is made from Rosehips manufactured with patented extraction and drying processes which isolate and activate a galactolipid (fatty acid) called GOPO®. GOPO® has clinically proven anti-

The patented processes also concentrate and preserve the naturally occurring vitamins and minerals, transforming Rose-Hip Vital® into a product that is both in a category all on its own, and across many; It’s a joint

antioxidant and a nutritional supplement. It delivers noticeable improvements to mobility, mood, condition, willingness to move forward, performance and recovery while reducing

improving general health and wellbeing, and boosting immunity.

Rose-Hip Vital® is a clinically proven plantand rich source of natural vitamin C. There is no product like it. Unlike other joint supplements, Rose-Hip Vital® is 100% plant-

Rose-Hip Vital® is safe for long term use and it does not swab. It can be used alongside conventional treatments and supplements as well as potentially replacing or reducing the medication.

Horses like it so much, even the fussiest of eaters become more enthusiastic about their feed once Rose-Hip Vital is added. So while Rose-Hip Vital Equine has become a highly use, it also has become highly recommended for improving general health and wellbeing, improving performance and maintaining healthy joints.

How does Rose-Hip Vital® Equine lengthen the lifetime of a working horse?

Vital is comprehensive. There are in excess of placebo controlled clinical trials on people, dogs and horses mainly focusing on antithe unique compound GOPO.

To many people, antioxidants and anti-aging go hand-in-hand. Antioxidants are talked about as the antidote to cell-damaging free radicals. Exercise and the associated stress and increase in oxygen consumption are linked to an increased production of free radicals. When the production of free radicals overwhelms the body’s antioxidant defences, oxidative stress can occur with subsequent

research shows horses need natural vitamin C to help block toxic free radical activity, which causes damage throughout the body including joints and cartilage.

Some white blood cells in the body contain granulocytes which enable them to ‘clean’

bacteria in it. Too many of these white blood cells wear down tissue cartilage. In large numbers they can also produce chemical enzymes and toxic freeradicals which cause even more tissue damage. Excess accumulation of white blood cells combined with the release of chemical substances cause’s joint pain

The more becomes, the more the white blood cells are attracted to it –a painful cycle.

protects cartilage. This means it helps to delay the onset of arthritic changes or slow down further cartilage degeneration if it already exists.

In short, if you want to extend the lifetime of your working horse, feed it a natural antirich source of natural vitamin C. Rose-Hip Vital® Equine is your only option, and the results speak for themselves.

The usual cause is a hypersensitivity to the bites of flies (in particular sand flies or midges).

While the bite of the flies are an irritation, some horses develop sensitivity to the bite and will rub themselves so much that they cause injury to their skin.

Research shows the cause is an allergic reaction to the chemicals in the saliva of the midges (as with humans).

Not only that, but once or twice a day, stable lies come to the horse, feed vigorously for a minute or two, and then return to the shade to digest their food. These bites can cause intense irritation in some horses. The bites appear as small raised lumps with a central scab.

The effects on the horses can be dramatic. They suffer intense pruritus (itchiness) on the mane, tail, face, ears and back, resulting in biting, rubbing, hair loss, self-trauma and a change of temperament. They become miserable and irritable.

KURITCH has been specially formulated to help assist this problem effectively, in a number of ways:

Firstly, it repels the biting insects using the combination of the natural repellent “Citronella Oil” and a highly effective repellent “DEET”. Secondly, it soothes the irritated areas thus relieving the horse from biting and rubbing, which in turn allows the normal healing process to begin.

Also rugging, hooding or stabling your horses between the hours of 4pm – 7am during spring and summer will limit the contact of the flies.

Should your horse already be suffering from the effects of allergic skin dermatitis, ensure you use QUIT ITCH to treat and relieve the effects of insect bites.

Since the 1970’s, QUIT ITCH has been an essential weapon in the fight against skin disorders in horses.

It achieves this by the inclusion of the natural antiseptic “Eucalyptus oil” and Camphor oil” which naturally relieves itchy skin.

These significant benefits are also enhanced by the “Rain Resistant” and “Low irritant” formula. As it doesn’t contain alcohol (prevalent in most fly sprays) it won’t “sting” the horse. It can also be applied to surface wounds, minor cuts and skin abrasions to help prevent irritation and possible infection by nuisance insects.

Registered by the APVMA in Australia for over 40 years, extensive field experience has proven KURITCH to be a most effective solution for both preventing and healing distressing skin conditions caused by biting insects.

As well as KURITCH as a repellent, environmental management will also assist in protecting your horse.

Midges breed near stagnant water. As they don’t fly more than a few hundred metres from their breeding area, housing or paddocking your horses more than 500 metres from those areas will reduce their exposure to the flies.

The Horse Report

The importance of trailer maintenance

Most horse owners don’t think about their horse float until something goes wrong. But a horse float, like a car, requires regular attention to keep it running effectively and to ensure it is safe to carry your precious equine friend.

Horse floats are often abused as much as they are used: they get kicked and bitten, they get left outside in all weathers, driven on gravel and dirt tracks and, to add insult to injury, they get regularly covered in manure and urine.

Ensure regular maintenance and services are arranged.

Trailer and caravan manufacturers recommend that wheel bearings and brakes are serviced every 10,000km or 12 months. Take time to clean your float.

If hosed out, park your float on a descent to ensure run off water can drain.

Sweep out horse urine and manure - these must be cleaned out after every use and not left in the float for extended periods of time. All walls and surfaces should be kept in good clean order.

Cleaning your float, not only sets up a more comfortable ride for your horses, but highlights any areas needing attention.

The wheel bearings should be checked and re-greased six to 12 months after purchase, then 12 monthly thereafter.

Wheel nuts should be checked to ensure tightness after the first 200km and than six monthly intervals thereafter.

Suspension grease nipples must be regularly

checked and re-greased every 12 months. Check that the lights and indicators are all in good working order get underneath your float and have a good look at the floor and suspension – you might find a torch helps with this.

You are looking for obvious signs of fatigue such as: cracks in the welds and frame, rust, bowed or bent support beams, cracked or sagging flooring, broken brake lines and frayed wiring.

Then have a good look at the tyres and ensure they are safe and are wearing evenly. Tyre pressures should be checked regularly and should read 40 PSI.

Now get inside your float and if you can, pull up the back edge of the rubber matting – check for signs of deterioration in the floor and rust in the frame where the tailgate attaches to the float.

The external surfaces should also be cared

for as you would your car.

For longevity try to wash and wax your float regularly especially if the float will spend extensive periods outside.

It is also important to check your float windows and access points for any water leaks that may appear due to movement of the float and normal wear and tear.

If a water leak is found, it is important to rectify this straight away to avoid any damage to the paintwork or structure of your float.

Normal silicone sealant is fine for this. Preventative maintenance and care is the key factor in keeping your float looking brand new, as well as safe

If you service your float annually and conduct regular visual safety checks you should get years of reliable and safe use from your horse float and be comforable knowing your “passenger” is safe.

Regularly check float floors and wheel bearings to ensure the safety of your horse.

Leading your horse from another horse

My horses being able to lead another horse off them is something I would consider a basic skill.

Not basic in its skill level, but basic in that I want all of my horses to be able to do it. It does take time however as there are many intricacies in being able to be a capable and reliable lead horse.

I have been leading Gallie off Boogie - Gallie is an experienced horse at being led as we taught it to her a long time ago and have kept it up over the years.

She is relatively soft in the halter and across her responsibilities, however she can get a little stroppy and will try to bite Boogie - Boogie’s role as my lead horse is to hold space when Gallie tries to do this, but not engage - she understands it is my role to address Gallie in that moment. Every so often Gallie will throw in a spook or a stop, and Boogie also knows she

Being able to lead another horse off your horse is something I would consider a basic skill.

does not engage in this. I have also just begun teaching Angel how to be led and I am using Boogie to do this. Teaching a horse to lead is also quite intricate, with Boogie needing to follow my lead when we are pushing into Angel to soften her feet when she gets stuck, and also when to yield away when I ask.

Boogie also has to hold ground when Angel’s feet get stuck. Both of these roles are fantastic for Boogie’s training too, putting a real purpose to our one handed riding and responsiveness to leg and seat cues This workhorse style work is what I am using to prep Boogie for the upcoming Australian Cowboy Dressage

championships, as she was a little arena sour with all the clinics we have been teaching. I'm excited to see how she performs after this change in preparation.

Indy is a lovely soft mare to ride, due to having a foal she has come back in work to be shown with success for 2023. Indi won her novice show hunter pony under saddle at 2023 Canberra Royal. She has not been beaten at any qualifying of the Ag shows. All the hard work is done, and she is ring ready. Indy will only be sold to the right home as she can be bossy handling on the ground . She has a slight injury to one side of her nostrils, but would suit show/dressage pony. 2024 Canberra Royal won part welsh 13 2 hh / 14 ‘ won mare open show hunter 13’2 / 14 hh. After a ten year break from riding, Sailor has given me the experience of going from an OTTthrough to an Open Royal Show and HOTYwinner. He is elegant and refined and greatly admired. Sailor is an enjoyable horse to Show and gives a comfortable and athletic ride. He would suit an ambitious and dedicated rider who wants to consistently be in the winner’s circle.

Sailor is 100% drug free and sound and a vet check is welcome. Sailor is a very mild wind sucker however it doesn’t affect his condition or performance.

Solly is in full work and looking for his new partner. He is currently competing, attended youth clinics as well as interschool’s. His list of accolades include RU large hack at EANationals as well as 4th large hack at Grand Nationals.

Sol has been with us for 2 years, taught my daughter an incredible amount and this is a very hard sale due to my daughter focusing on her career and getting out of horses.

Solly needs to find the perfect experienced home, he does have a couple of quirks which I’m happy to discuss with serious buyers and is priced accordingly. All his gear, wardrobe, Euro 2HALfloat (available after Sol sells) etc. are also available. More pictures and videos available.

12.3h 4th gen Australian pony mare rising 6yo reg ea shc vps . Ishka is a big moving mare with bonus colour that stands out in the ring. She has just finished her newcomer year with some fantastic wins.

She’s competed at royals and many Ag shows, doesn’t need ear plugs or working down. She doesn’t care about fireworks. Super easy to shoe, float. She’s perfect out with others or by herself. She’s currently qualified for all royals. She will also make a fantastic child’s mount. Please feel free to message me this is a really hard post to write. She won’t be sold to just anyone. Home is paramount.

Lulu is genuinely lovely pony in all aspects. Her temperament, movement, and breeding. Lulu has been so much fun for our girls who have done everything with her. She can be left for days and just get on a ride away, she has been ridden trail riding and mustering Lulu is easy to clip, wash, shoe, travel/float and loves every minute of being a show pony.

Lulu isn’t horse shy, matey, marey, spooky doesn’t shy and is happy to be ridden alone or in a group. She would be a fantastic second pony for a child wanting to have a bit of crack everything. Inter school, dressage, trail riding, pony club and showing.

Lulu is a genuine pony who is looking for her new little rider.

Ally has been owned by 13yr old daughter for the last 2 year and is only being sold as she is moving onto a bigger horse. Ally has taught my daughter so much in this time and it's now time for her to continue shining with her new rider. Ally always comes home with ribbons and will suit a capable child or teenager that’s going to love her like we do.

My daughter competes in interschool and show horse but Ally is a great all rounder and would also excel in pony club, dressage, is a great little jumper and enjoys trail rides. Ally is a pleasure to take out, loves attention, not much fazes this pony.

Ally is easy to catch (always meets u at the gate), bath, rug, shoe, prep for shows and travel. This pony requires minimal work before and after a ride even after having a short break. She has been fully handled by my daughter the whole time we have owned her.

Up to date with vaccinations, teeth and shoeing.

GN 2024 QUALIFIED

Champion Child Hack - Geelong Royal 2023 Reserve Champion - SHCV

Jan 23 National Interschool Show Team - Vic Runner Up SupremeLilydale Show 2022.

Baxter is the ultimate Childs small hack, taking his nervous rider to many championships and building her confidence over the past 12 months.

Gentle and kind, he is an absolute pleasure to handle on the ground.

No work down or lunging required, Baxter will happily stand and be prepped all day long, going straight from the float into the ring and can be ridden in both a snaffle and double with no fuss. No kicking / bucking/ rearing and loads onto the float or truck easily.

Currently happily enjoying the paddock most the time and is a great paddock friend. Stabled only leading up to big comps.

Sadly his current rider has moved onto a dressage warm blood recently and won’t be competing at GN so we are searching for a new home for Baxter.

Beautiful Small Show Hack, always ridden/handled/prepared by child. Lovely to ride, very easy in every way.

Been to royal, qualified for Grand Nationals in Child's numerous times. Still relatively undiscovered as we haven't taken him far. Potential to win at Grand National level.

Extremely sad sale, we bred this horse & will be devastated to see him go. End of an era for our 3 daughters have grown up & moved on & this horse is far too good to waste in the paddock.

Entered & can be viewed at this year's Adelaide Royal Suit capable child or adult for showing at a high level, is also happy to pop around a jump course. Genuine sale of a lovely horse, vet check welcome.

Kenny is a forward moving pony with an expressive trot. He is an easy pony to handle and no dirt to ride. He does require a small work down at the Royal shows.

Has been ridden by my 9 year old and 12 year old daughters but I would say would benefit from an older rider to get the most out of Kenny.

Kenny did qualify in the Open large pony for the 2022 Grand Nationals.

Kenny is currently in paddock condition which is reflective of the price. Kenny is a high calibre pony that will be highly competitive at the highest of levels. For sale as my daughters cannot give him enough time due to polocrosse, stock horse classes, camp drafting and cheerleading
