January 2023 marks one year since the inception of the Queensland Off-The-Track Acknowledged Retrainers Program. Maximising aftercare outcomes for retired racehorses across the state as they transition from the racetrack or the breeding barn to second careers, the Acknowledged Retrainers Program is one of a suite of programs funded by the prize money levy implemented to support equine welfare in Queensland.
QOTT Acknowledged Retrainers are a vital component in supporting retired thoroughbred and standardbred horses in gaining the necessary skills and experiences needed to transition to their post-racing lives as pleasure, therapy or performance horses.
In the 12 months that the Acknowledged Retrainers Program has been operating, 94 horses have been accepted into the program, with 53 of those horses having completed their retraining and have been successfully rehomed to date.
Racing Queensland Senior Animal Care Manager Kim Duffy is proud of what the program has managed to achieve in such a short time frame.
“We are delighted with the popularity and success of the QOTT Acknowledged Retrainers Program so far,” Ms Duffy said. “We could not be happier with the quality and the diversity of the retrainers across the state and the fantastic outcomes they have achieved with retraining and rehoming thoroughbred and standardbred horses throughout the year.
“While the initial response to stage one of the program has been extremely encouraging, the team is dedicated to achieving a world-class, multifaceted QOTT Program.
“With strong foundations established during the past 12 months, we look forward to further expanding our program with what is set to become another big year for QOTT in 2023.”
This includes expansion of the Acknowledged
Retrainers network, with interested retrainers welcome to apply to become QOTT Acknowledged Retrainers at any time. The program has had its fair share of champion racehorses in its first 12 months.
Tambo’s Mate was a very successful racehorse with a huge following having won $680,000 and wins that included the 2021 Tattersall’s Recognition Stakes, the 2021 Keith Noud Handicap and the 2020 BRC Sprint. Happy Go Plucky will be another familiar name to race goers, with wins that included the 2021 Ipswich Cup and winning over $470,000 in his career on the track. Obviously not every horse in the program was victorious on the track.
Horses with less than stellar race results have also shown great skill in other post-racing pursuits, including dressage and showjumping.
Deziree Roos, who is one of the 14 QOTT Acknowledged Retrainers, loves working with all types of horses who come through the program.
“I love helping OTT’s find their new passion in life, whatever that may be,” she said. “There is absolutely nothing that a Thoroughbred cannot do, and I believe that
there is a perfect home for every racehorse that retires.”
This sentiment is echoed by another experienced QOTT Acknowledged Retrainer, Kate Rogers.
“Thoroughbreds are just so versatile and are quick learners. I love how easily Thoroughbreds can be retrained,” Kate said. The support the QOTT Acknowledged Retrainers receive is funded from the one percent prize money levy, with funding directly benefiting the individual horses through health and nutritional subsidies.
Once a horse is rehomed through one of the QOTT Acknowledged Retrainers they are also eligible to participate in the Subsidised Lessons Program, which provides 10 free lessons to the new owner/rider with an QOTT Approved Coach.
QOTT Acknowledged Retrainer Nicole Condon loves that the Acknowledged Retrainers Program and the Subsidised Lessons Program work together to ensure the best outcome for the horses.
“Getting a great start to life after racing is so important. Having a network of re-trainers experienced in retraining OTT horses combined with the Subsidised Lessons Program gives more OTT’s an opportunity to have a great start in their new lives,” Nicole said. Felicia Bergstrand, who is a licensed Thoroughbred trainer, jockey and QOTT Acknowledged Retrainer agrees about the importance of a professional education for both horse and the subsequent new owner.
“The QOTT Acknowledged Retrainers Program provides horses with professional education before starting their new career paths,” Felicia said.
“This, combined with the support of Subsidised Lessons Program, means it is more likely that the OTT horse will stay in this new home due to the new owner receiving tailored support.” to find out more visit https://www.racingqueensland.com.au/animal-care/off-the-track
Supplied by MAGIC MILLIONS
In the new race for two-year-olds staged exclusively for eligible Magic Millions first starters, the Nathan Doyle-trained Russian Revolution colt made the perfect start to his career, edging out Peter and Paul Snowden's Capitalist colt Getty in a drive to the line. The race in January was delayed by almost an hour while stewards and jockeys inspected the deteriorating Gold Coast track, which was downgraded to a Heavy 10 after the first race. Newcastle trainer Nathan Doyle said the $300,000 payday was a dream result for a horse that connections had initially attempted to target at the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
He said he wasn't surprised with how well his colt handled the delay.
"He's shown us so much talent from day dot and my only worry was that after his second trial we thought he might be looking for 1100m or 1200m first-up," Doyle said.
"I just had to leave him fresh because we didn't want to train him off or send him down for the 900m trip."
"It was a perfect ride by Koby and it's good for the Calibre Racing boys, it's the first ever yearling they've ever bought as a syndication group and they've won here.
"I was actually watching every horse melt out the back there and he was just asleep so that's the way he took it in and I grew in confidence with the delay."
"It's what you dream of, you buy these yearlings to hopefully be back here in 12 months' time - ideally it would've been in the bigger
race (2YO Classic) but he just had a little setback and we had to back off him."
For winning jockey Koby Jennings, the victory came courtesy of his only ride on the card and he believes the colt has plenty of upside. "He's a very nice colt, he's very professional and he's always been that way," Jennings said. "Setting him for a race like this was always going to suit just because of how professional he is and obviously he's got the ability to go with it.
"We do get the feel that he'll want that little bit further in the not too distant future."
Rush Hour was purchased by NSW-based syndicator Calibre Racing and Nathan Doyle for $130,000 out of the Newgate Farm draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
He is from the second draft of Newgate's resident stallion Russian Revolution, whose yearlings have sold up to $360,000 at this week's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Connections of Getty pocketed $90,000 for their colt running second, while the fast-finishing Storm The Ramparts collected $45,000 in third.

What is MSM, is it safe?
MSM is a natural anti-inflammatory - an organic compound that comes in a white crystalline powder, derived from DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) and lignin (both superfluous products of the paper making industry).
MSM is one of the safest compounds known, with the toxicity of drinking water.
Methyl Sulfonyl Methane is widely acclaimed by vets and horse studs for its contribution to equine health care and pet ailments.
MSM is a food supplement used throughout the equine and pet industry in the US, being relatively new to Australia. Working horses, particularly those, which compete on the racetrack or in the show ring, suffer sore backs. Observant owners will notice discomfort, bruising, hair loss and even open sores in the saddle area. MSM has been used and has been shown to improve their condition.
MSM is credited with clearing up and preventing, epiphysitis (inflammation of the growth centre just above the knee) in
fast young growing horses. Overfeeding with a high protein diet is one cause for epiphysitis. MSM relieves a variety of horse ailments and lameness problems along with reducing inflammation and enhancing blood circulation.
Since most horses are social animals, disregarded communicable diseases can lead to disaster. Equine protozoal myeloencephalitis is a disorder that quickly manifests itself in healthy horses.
The parasite enters the horse through infected food and water supplies and settles within the spinal cord. Symptoms includeloss of appetite, depression and loss of motor control as the dis-
James Harrison Coburn III (August 31, 1928November 18, 2002) was an American film and television actor.
Coburn appeared in nearly 70 films and made over 100 television appearances during his 45-year career, and played a wide range of roles and won an Academy Award for his supporting role as Glen Whitehouse in Affliction.
But he's was not as cranky as he sounded.
The "Affliction Experience" was a good one, complete with putty nose and lots of padding to turn him into his cantankerous, bloated character. "That's what we do," he said happily. It was also enjoyable because he was not in pain. In 1990, he could barely walk because of rheumatoid arthritis.
"I was really sick with it for a long time - until I stopped seeing doctors," he chuckled. But he was serious.
"Doctors want to give you drugs and keep you on 'em. I wanted to get to the root of the problem."
So he started reading everything he could find on rheumatoid arthritis, went on a 15-day fast and did high colonies daily. "That started the cure. It's an insidious immune disease.
The body works against itself. It extracts calcium from your bones and puts it in your muscles." But for almost 10 years, he said.
"Moving was always painful. Standing was really troublesome."
The only relief? He laughed: "When you're working and having sex." Afriend came over to his Beverly Hills house every day for 10 months and gave him a deep tissue massage, and he discovered a man who had an electromagnetic machine, which worked wonders by stimulating the immune system, he says.
But it wasn't approved by the FDA, so then he visited the man and the machine periodically in England for treatment.
Finally, Coburn found MSM.
"Methyl sulfonyl methane, a dietary sulfur," he said. "It really, really does the job. It's non-toxic, totally, and it stops the pain."
Coburn figured the illness took its toll on his career.
ease progresses.
Amaster of disguise, this serious disease can be difficult to diagnose because signs often mimic other health problems in the horse.
The disease is not transmitted from horse to horse.
The protozoa are spread by a host. The infective stage of the organism, the sporocysts, is passed in the host's faeces. The horse comes into contact with the infective sporocysts while grazing or eating contaminated feed or drinking water.
Once ingested, the sporocysts migrate from the intestinal tract into the bloodstream and cross the blood-brain barrier and attack the horse's central nervous system. MSM has been shown to assist this condition. MSM provides horses and pets with relief from arthritis. MSM was added to the diet of a
thoroughbred jumper with chronic back problems, who improved dramatically and was able to go onto a healthy and extended jumping career.
MSM cleared up epiphysitis in three weeks on a young thoroughbred filly. Animals given MSM showed a delayed onset of tumours.
MSM clears up inflammation and enhances circulation. MSM is present in food when it is very fresh, it can be driven out of any food by even moderate passing, including the cutting and drying of hay. It is important to supplement most diets with a pure source of MSM.
Nutritionists, vets and horse owners report excellent results from feeding of MSM daily. MSM provides a dietary source of sulfur, an element that is essential in the formation of connective tissue. Animals given MSM in their water supplies had lower death rates and liver damage.
How much MSM should I give my horse?
For a 450kg horse, one gram per 45kg body weight twice a day or as directed by your vet. Also mix MSM in the horse's drinking water. Animals given MSM in their water supplies had lower death rates and liver damage than the control groups and a longer life expectancy.

Rose-Hip Vital Equine contains just one single ingredient rosehip berries ground into a powder.
But it's the patented extraction and drying processes that gives Rose-Hip Vital Equine its powerful anti-inflammatory properties. We start with the humble Rosehip Arosehip is a true superfood. Rosehips, one of nature's richest sources of natural vitamin C, are typically fed to horses as a feed supplement for immune system support and for a range of other health benefits including hoof health, improved circulation and digestive function to name but a few.
ROSEHIPS ARE: a wholefood,a fruit packed with 8 naturally occurring vitamins, including C, E, B1 and B6; full of 23 minerals, including iron, copper, zinc and magnesium; filled with essential fatty acids, including omegas 3, 6 and 9, antioxidants and flavonoids.
Rose-Hip Vital Equine uses a Patented Extraction and Drying Process
The production process involves harvesting fruits when they are fully ripe and selecting optimal fruits using a laser technique. These fruits are then dried using a patented process which preserves the nutrient content, as well as isolating and activating a fatty acid/galactolipid (glycoside of mono and diglycerol) called GOPO which has powerful clinically-proven anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties.
GOPO is unique to Rose-Hip Vital powder. The same patented process concentrate and preserve the naturally occurring vitamins and minerals which work in synergy to boost immunity, repair damaged cells and deliver maximum health benefits.
Rose-Hip Vital Equine is 100% Plant-Based
Unlike other joint supplements, Rose-Hip Vital Equine is completely plant-based. Unlike anti-inflammatory medication, RoseHip Vital Equine is safe for long-term use and it does not swab. It can be used alongside conventional treatments and supplements as well as potentially replacing or
reducing the reliance on anti-inflammatory and other pain medication.
Horses like it so much, even the fussiest of eaters become more enthusiastic about their feed once Rose-Hip Vital Equine is added. So while Rose-Hip Vital Equine has become a highly recommend product for anti-inflammatory use, it also has become highly recommended for improving general health and wellbeing, improving performance and maintaining healthy joints.
Will this help my horse?
Rose-Hip Vital Equine has helped horses involved in all types of disciplines. Maybe you'd like your horse to be more willing to move forward, have improved suppleness, movement, jumping scope, agility and endurance without heating?
Or maybe you'd like your horse to be the picture of health with a gleaming coat, be less itchy and recover quicker after exercise or injury. Often used as a first line therapy for conditions such as osteoarthritis, ringbone, navicular, laminitis and Queensland itch, Rose-Hip Vital Equine is so much more than just a joint supplement.
How much Rose-Hip Vital Equine will I need? A1.5kg tub will last 30 days on the loading dose and results can be seen within 3 weeks. Once you and your horse fall in love with Rose-Hip Vital Equine, you'll want to purchase the 3kg size which will last 4 months on the maintenance dose for a 500kg horse. PEMF Therapy is a pulsed electro-magnetic field therapy machine that is a revolutionary medical device that has shown amazing results in the treatment of pain, swelling and dramatically improving range of motion in both humans and animals.
Scientifically speaking, Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field Therapy is a non-invasive treatment which applies a magnetic field to the cells within the body by pulsing electromagnetic impulse at a pre-set (but variable) frequency and intensity.
The impulse interacts with the ions present within specific cells, accelerating activity and expediting the flow of oxygen and nutrients.
When applied to injuries, PEMF Therapy can assist in both kickstarting and boosting the healing process at a cellular level, whilst simultaneously accelerating the disposal of toxins and waste products.
PEMF Therapy improves circulation, not by increasing the heartbeat or blood pressure, but by opening and dilating the
arteries and capillaries. This also reduces edema (swelling).
PEMF Therapy increases the cellular level of oxygen absorption. Studies have shown that oxygen partial pressure can be increased by 200%.
This reduces pain and the build -up of lactic acid under strenuous exercise.
PEMF Therapy is particularly effective in getting to deep muscle soreness, because of its deep penetration.
In order to receive the full benefits of PEMF Therapy, the treatment has to reach the cells. Magnawaving uses high-powered electromagnetic pulses at a low frequency.
Actively participating in US FDAstudies, Magnawaving pulses are shown to reach through the body and benefit cells throughout the entire treatment area. This causes improvement in the systemic and arterial blood flow and benefits deep tis-
sues.
Benefits of using MagnaWave
• Reduced inflammation
• Improved blood circulation
• Recovery from injuries
• Pain reduction
• Better sleep & relaxation
• Immune boosting
• Anxiety and depression relief
• Increased energy
• Bone mending
• Companion modality
PEMF therapy can proactively ‘jump start’the healing process, minimising downtime due to injury or illness.
When used as part of a cool down routine, PEMF therapy can also assist in facilitating post-work recovery and reduce the soreness associated with muscle strain and lactic acid build up.
The option to vary the frequency at which it operates allows PEMF therapy to be modified to specifically target the area (and density) where it’s needed most. In short, PEMF therapy devices can help your horse train at its best, compete to its fullest, and bounce back from injury or work as quickly as possible.
Do you have one of those horses that is hard to keep weight on?
One who seems to eat twice as much than anyone else's horse, but still shows too much rib and loses weight in winter, at competitions or when upset?
Nutritionists refer to horses like this as hard keepers. Most of the time, these horses have a 'fast metabolism' compared to average but there are some common health problems to look out for as well.
An underweight horse with a poor appetite doesn't just look unhealthy, he or she will underperform due a lack of energy to work, will fatigue more easily and be vulnerable to injury and disease.
If you have trouble keeping weight on your horse, it's important to understand why, and then tweak the diet to ensure you provide everything your horse needs.
Begin by ruling out any medical issues then assess your horse's comfort in his or her social situation and living environment.
Are there any health, environmental or social issues affecting your horse?
1. First of all, work with a professional to make sure your horse's teeth, mouth and gums are healthy and able to efficiently chew feed and forage.
2. Ensure your horse is not carrying an internal parasite burden: ask your vet for the best worming protocol suited to your horse.
3. Are there any underlying health or lameness issues? Pain or difficulty moving can interfere with a horse's desire and ability to access food.
4. Does the horse have gastric ulcers which cause pain and reduced appetite?
5. Have medications, stress or trauma disrupted the gut microbiome, thereby reducing the horse's ability to efficiently digest and obtain all the nutrients available from forage?
6. Is your horse burning too many calories keeping warm? Providing shelter or rugs during cold weather conserves energy that can be used for weight gain.
7. Feed your horse in a time and place where he or she can relax and eat without distraction. If another member of the herd has a
tendency to 'steal' food, ensure your hard keeper is separated at mealtimes.
What makes hard keepers different? Hard keepers need more calories to fuel their bodies than an average or 'easy keeper' horse. It's an individual trait, but more frequently seen in horses with thoroughbred breeding.
Some older horses become hard keepers as their digestive efficiency declines with age. Hard keepers may also be more active than average - they move around more at rest in their yard or paddock.
During work they may be more forward moving or even 'hot' in temperament thus burning more calories when in work or play. This means that they need to consume a more calorie-rich diet than a less active horse.
Some hard keepers tend to be more sensitive to 'stressors' in the environment, carrying the physiological effects of mild chronic stress and potentially leading to a decline in health. Mild stressors may include:
* confinement to a stable or small yard
* isolation from other horses
* conflict in the social structure of the herd
* inability to graze
* a heavy workload.
Major stressors usually create a sudden behavioural change or physical injury. Major stressors include trauma, extended transport, severe fright or anxiety and can cause an acute stress response. Although horses with chronic stress often
appear outwardly calm, their internal organs react automatically, causing gut muscles to cramp or spasm, causing bloat, diarrhea, and a slower rate of passage of food through the digestive tract.
Stress reduces the efficiency of digestion, weakens the cells in the intestinal mucosa (leaky gut) and impacts on the gut microbial population. This further reduces digestive efficiency, gut acidity, vitamin availability, and immune function often leading to further weight loss. Stress or hard work can leave the body short of the antioxidants needed to prevent free radicals from causing tissue damage in muscles, airways and gut linings.
Feeding additional antioxidants including organic selenium and vitamins C and E before and after stressful events reduces the impact of oxidative stress and aids recovery. Scientific trials clearly show that supplementation with a specific strain of live yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) reduces the impact of stress on gut microbial populations and reduces the levels of stress hormones measured in the blood.
It does this by helping to maintain the natural diversity of the microbiome which stabilizes hindgut pH, removing a common cause of gut pain and vitamin B deficiency. Keeping weight on a hard keeper requires a combination of managing the horse's environment to reduce stressors where possible, providing the right nutrition, and using nutraceuticals to support gut health

Tips for feeding the hard keeper
* Provide free choice access to quality forage all day, every day. In some cases, this is the only change needed for weight gain. The equine digestive system is designed for grazing.
* When grass is not plentiful provide a good-quality, relatively soft grass hay.
* Lucerne hay is a terrific addition to lift the protein quality of the diet, but should be limited to 30% of the horse's forage intake (i.e. 1 or 2 biscuits of lucerne a day, depending on horse size).
* If your hard keeper is older or has worn/missing teeth making grazing difficult, provide as much chaffed/cubed grass as your horse will eat. Ablend of equal parts grass, lucerne and oaten or wheaten chaff is ideal.
* Hard keepers need to be fed a caloriedense concentrate feed made from any of these ingredients:
Cereal grains are calorie-dense and relatively cheap but are not suited to horses prone to gastric ulcers.
Digestible fibre by-products such as beet pulp, copra or legume hulls, also known as 'super fibres.'
Legume grains (including lupins, chickpeas, soybean) are an alternative for these horses, but be careful not to overfeed protein. They are best fed in conjunction with super fibres.
You can use plain ingredients and add supplements, or buy pre-mixed hard feeds made from a combination of ingredients.
* Feed more small meals per day. Limit meal size to avoid overloading the hind gut with starch, causing hindgut acidosis, colic and/or laminitis. Keep meals less than 2.5 kg per hard feed; less for a pony.
* If feeding cereal grains, choose processed grains. Digestibility of uncooked cereals in the foregut is typically less than 20 percent. Cooking grains increases starch digestion in the small intestine to around 80 percent. All forms of cooking are beneficial, although extrusion improves digestibility slightly more than boiling, steam-flaking or micronizing. When boiling grains at home, ensure you cook them in plenty of water until they are very soft.
* Add oil to increase the calorie concentration of a hard feed. This is especially useful when feeding multiple meals of maximum recommended size but more calories are needed. Oil contains almost two and a half times as many calories as the same weight of grain. You can feed up to 1 ml oil per kg of horse bodyweight (introduced gradually) but must ensure you also add an omega-3 source to balance the total omega-6 intake. This important to modulate the immune system. Copra, rice-bran and oilseed meals such as full fat soybean meal are palatable highfat feeds suited to fussy eaters.
* Make sure the diet provides all the vitamins and minerals your horse needs. This allows the body to function optimally and often results in improved 'fuel efficiency.'
Continued page 12
Flax Seed Oil provides the richest (almost 60%) natural source ofOmega 3, an essential fatty acid (EFA) which is not generally present in equine foods. Like all animals, horses cannot manufacture this essential fatty acid which is so important for their overall health.
From Page 11
Vitamins and minerals can be supplemented by providing the full recommended amount of a quality pre-mixed feed, or by adding a balancer powder or pellet.
* If feeding a reduced rate of pre-mixed pellets or muesli, use a balancer powder to top up and balance your horse's vitamin and mineral requirements. Remember that it is possible for a horse to be deficient in one mineral even if the recommended daily intake is given unless all minerals are provided in correct mineral ratios.
* Consider adding a daily serve of live yeast probiotics and prebiotic fibre to nourish the beneficial microbes in the horse's digestive tract. Live yeast is proven to support a healthy gut microbiome and to improve feed use efficiency, so your horse gets more nutrition from every mouthful.
* If your horse is working hard or competing and being transported it can be worthwhile adding a concentrated source of antioxidants during the recovery phase.
Horses under stress often suffer gut dysbiosis leaving them with a sudden reduction in the beneficial microbes they rely on to ferment fibre and produce many of the B-group vitamins required in the diet.
Even a small deficiency in B group vitamins can cause appetite suppression and lead to nervous system disfunction than can result in behavioural changes.
This can be the beginning of a downward spiral which includes picky eating and can lead to gastric ulcers (due to lack of gut fill) which further exacerbates lack of appetite. Studies show that equine gastric ulcers can form in an empty stomach during a period as short as four hours or in only a few hours of transport where stress is an exacerbating factor.
Owners often feed high-starch, sweet feeds and grains to encourage their fussy horses to eat, but the starch in these feeds can exacerbate the problem.
Although the horse wants to eat the tasty feed, he or she learns that gut pain follows eating a high starch meal.
If you suspect your horse has gastric ulcers, consult with your veterinarian for a full diagnosis and medication as required. Nutraceutical support with ingredients such
as aloe vera, fermented soy flour, lecithin, pectin and sea-buckthorn may assist management of horses with ulcers.
Nutritional support before, during and after stress with vitamin B complex, antioxidants, prebiotics and probiotics can help to maintain and restore appetite.
Tips to tempt a fussy eater
* Feed smaller meals more often. Remove old feed within a few hours and give the next feed in a clean feed bin.
* Experiment with different moisture content of feeds. Aslightly moist hard feed is ideal, but some fussy horses will only eat dry or wetter feeds.
* See whether your horse prefers pellets, muesli or mash style textures.
* Add vitamin B complex to boost appetite.
* Add live yeast probiotics to help stabilise gut acidity and the microbiome.
* Horses with gastric ulcers should avoid sweet feeds, sugar/molasses and high starch meals which, although tasty, may cause gut pain after ingestion.
* Ensure a constant supply of fresh, clean water.
Performance horse owners are often pleasantly surprised how much difference a few changes in the horse's environment, improving the mineral balance of the diet and adding good probiotics can make to the health and well-being of their hard keeper. Afact that all horse owners must become comfortable with, is that horses will always have a worm burden.
The job of the horse owner is not to eradicate worms from your horses, rather it is to manage infections and pastures to limit or reduce worm burdens.
Small strongyles are the most prevalent parasite of horses, and as such, management regimes should focus first and foremost on these parasites and all other parasites second.
Small strongyles have very short lifecycles (as short as 6 weeks) and infective larvae can survive for over six months on pasture. Selective treatment involves only de-worming animals that require it. The best way to tell if a horse requires de-worming is to have a faecal egg count (FEC) performed on them.
FECs enumerate the number of worm eggs being shed in their manure and allows an informed decision to be made about if a
horse requires treatment. The result of a FEC is given as EPG (worm eggs per gram of manure), with it generally accepted that horses with EPG of above 200EPG require treatment.
To incorporate selective treatment into your horse’s healthcare, start with two FECs a year, and then treat as required. Younger horses, those identified as high egg shedders, or horses that are immunocompromised (e.g. EMS horses) will require routine FECs every 3-4 months. Overall, a yearly worm management regime should follow something along the lines of the table. (Table 1).
Most horses will only require a single treatment once a year as an 'annual cleanout'.
It is best to choose a dewormer that will target as many parasite types as possible; strongyles, bot
fly larvae and tapeworms. An example of this once a yearly wormer would be an avermectin (for strongyles and bot fly) plus praziquantel (for tapeworm). More information about dewormer types can be found on the WormCheck website.

Increasing the health and well-being of your horse, improving digestion, skin and coat condition, boosting the immune system and slashing your feed bill is not difficult to achieve. In this article we show you how.
The Horse’s Digestive System
Horses grind their feed very thoroughly to a size less than 20mm so as to prepare it for digestion within the small intestine. Fermentation and the breakdown of fibre do not occur until the feed reaches the hindgut. Horses that tend to eat too quickly or ones with poor teeth will cut down the required process allowing the feed to reach the hindgut not fully digested. This can lead to digestive upsets.
Horses take about 1000 jaw, mastication movements to chew 1kg of grain and about 3000 to chew hay - pretty amazing when you think about it, 1kg of grain is a reasonable amount of grain.
Routing checks of your horse's teeth is essential to maintain the condition particularly with horses that are feed hard feeds and are working reasonably hard.
Sharp edges can develop on the cheek or large pre-molars and molar teeth. The horse has a bottom jaw that is not as wide as the top jaw, sharp points may develop due to the side-to-side action of the jaw, which is required to grind the feed well.
What roles does the digestive system play?
Stomach
Mixing food. Emission of gastric juices.
Partial digestion of protein
Small Intestine
Major digestion and absorption of proteins, fats and carbohydrates to glucose. Absorption site for calcium, iron and other minerals, electrolytes and B complex vitamins.
Large Intestine
Bacterial fermentation of fibre, cellulose and carbohydrates. Bacterial synthesis of vitamins, protein and water absorption.
What to feed?
Feeding a diet that is designed for the species is essential; this involves feeding a natural diet.
Horses have the most remarkable grinding process within the mouth able to pulverise a handful of whole oats in just seconds. They are the only species in the world that have this particular jaw action and remember that the anatomy and physiology of horses has not changed, but the way we are feeding has.
The onset of fast food for horses with its socalled time saving approach has only complicated the situation, not just for horses but for horse owners as well.
Just as fast food in the human world has created a number of health problems, the same has occurred in the horse world. Health concerns include obesity often leading to laminitis, colic, digestive problems, ulcers, loss of weight temperament changes etc. It is essential for us to consume a healthy diet for our health and well being, it is no different for horses.
Horses cannot make life choices where feeding is concerned as their lives are in our hands.
Continued page 17
From page 16
Balancing a feed ration to suit the horse's individual needs is not complicated but essential to achieve optimum health.
Feeding a diet containing predominantly pre mix or pellets is not only unbalanced but also incredibly expensive.
Pellets have an inherent problem that can certainly cause problems. Most horse owners dampen their feed and in many cases too much, when you add water to a pellet, it becomes soggy.
Horses consuming feeds like this are not encouraged to grind the feed efficiently as it is too wet to begin with. Even dry pellets have a problem in that once the grinding begins - they readily become powdered. We already know that if we consume partially digested food it can lead to health problems. If your horse does not grind the feed correctly, two things can happen.
1. The horse does not benefit fully from the nutritional content of the feed.
2. Partially digested feed can lead to digestive problems.
Pre-mix feeds also present problems, as they are not designed to suit the biochemical individuality of each horse and are also very expensive.
If you increase or decrease pellets or a premix feed you are increasing the total amount of ingredients contain in the bag of feed.
This may not suit your horse.
Feeding a natural diet has many advantages and benefits such as:
1. More suited to the species
2. Easily altered to suit circumstances such as age, workload or disease.
3. Encourages correct digestion.
4. Ease of use and time saving
5. Very cost effective
6. Outstanding health benefits
There are many factors that can influence your horse’s life. I believe that nutrition is the key to achieving optimum health and well-being.
This can be achieved by simple controllable feeding methods and supplements that deliver their promises.
Generally speaking a natural diet including whole oats, chaffs plenty of good quality hay and a supporting supplement is all that is required, or perhaps investigate our Hi Form Complete feeds being released end of February offering a foolproof way to feed your horse.
For further free feeding advice please visit the feeding pages of our website www.hiform.com.au or contact us via email enq@hiform.com.au or phone 03 9798 1000.
The importance of regular dental check up and maintenance cannot be expressed strongly enough.
Teeth begin the digestive process and as such, make them vital to the health of your horse.
The horse’s stomach is designed to digest very small pieces of fibre - smaller even than chaff.
The teeth are responsible for grinding the food into these small pieces and therefore allowing the horse to digest the food and gain nutrition from it.
If the teeth aren’t able to do this job, then a multitude of problems will follow.
Sharp points and hooks can be extremely painful and not only limit the ability to grind food, but can cause damaged to the inside of your horse’s mouth - a very good reason to have dental check ups on your horses regularly.
Have a guess where that lower tooth goes when the horse shuts it's mouth .....straight in to the pallet of the upper jaw.
Remember, out of sight is out of mind. Please don't ignore your horse’s mouth until there is a problem or he can't eat. Contact your local equine vet or dentist today to make an appointment to have his or her teeth checked.
Farmers and horse trainers have been using Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) to improve and then maintain their horses’well-being for years.
It has an alkalizing effect which puts the horse in a slightly alkalized state. The benefits of this are legendary and its use over hundreds of years have proven beneficial.. It is a valuable tonic if taken internally or applied externally.
Top 10 uses forAppleCiderVinegar
1. Natural insect control
When horses are fed ACV daily in their feed, it causes higher levels of thiamine (vitamin B1) to be excreted through their skin, and thus the optimum levels of B vitamins in their system discourages insects including flies and mosquitoes
2. Improves digestion
ACV works to acidify the stomach for better digestion and absorption of minerals and help protect your horse from bacteria, parasites and water-borne diseases, and ulcers. Research has also shown that it can slow the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream, which is helpful for those founder-prone ponies/horses that are sensitive to sugar.
5. Helps prevent intestinal enteroliths
An alkaline environment in the horse's digestive tract can cause intentional stones to grow to the point of causing dangerous obstructions. The acidifying effect of ACV helps dissolve and prevent enteroliths.
4. Mane and tail conditioner
Adding one cup of ACV to a bucket of water for the final rinse of your horse's mane and tail will leave it feelingly incredibly smooth and removes any extra soap residue.
5. Disguise water while travelling
If your horse is accustomed to the taste of ACV, bring some along on your next road trip and they'll happily drink unfamiliar water.
6. Wound treatment
Spraying fungus, burns, skin infections and other wounds with diluted ACV is a great way to speed healing time by helping to help keep bacteria and insects away.
7. Ease arthritis symptoms
Both horses and humans alike have benefited from ACV to help control arthritis joint pain and stiffness.
8. Treat hoof problems
Use apple cider vinegar to treat thrush add 1/4 cup of ACV to a bucket of water to soak a hoof or use it undiluted in a spray bottle.
9. Weed killer
If you don't like spraying harmful chemicals then ACV is a great spray alternative.
10. Clean blankets and pads
Add some ACV to the rinse water for your saddle pads, blankets and polo wraps. It will help remove soap residue. Abenefit for thinskinned horses that are prone to irritation.

HORSE: X XXXX XXXXXXX
MICROCHIP: …483
DATES OF EXAMINATION:
14TH APRIL
17TH MAY 2021
14TH JUNE
PLACE: XXXX CANUNGRA
Bilateral hind cannon radiographs of X XXXX XXXXXX were taken on 14th April 2021 and again on 17th May and 14th June 2021
Initial radiographs showed a 32mm longitudinal non displaced left mid cannon saucer fracture extending 6mm into the dorsal cortex and a 44mm longitudinal displaced fracture right mid cannon 5.5mm in depth mid dorsal cortex associated proximally with a 27mm x 6.5mm econdary fracture as below. Initially, surgical removal was recommended of the RH fracture fragment.
Asecond series was taken on 17th May and third series on 14th June as above. Both fractures have attached and integrated with the parent bone with minor surface enthesophyte formation and periosteal activity evident.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Surgery is no longer recommended; however, the colt should be monitored carefully for any swelling on either cannon.
Prognosis for full return to racing is good.
COMMENTS:
Fractures of this nature usually require surgical removal. Resolution of cortical fractures of this size without surgical intervention is not expected.
Bone Gold supplementation was initiated on 14th April 2021 at 3 x scoops/day and should be continued.

There are in fact many reasons. It all starts with the humble Rosehip, the berry-like fruit of the wild rose bush species Rosa Canina. A wholefood known to be one of nature’s richest sources of natural vitamin C. A superfood containing 8 naturally occurring vitamins (including C, E, B1 and B6) and 23 minerals (including iron, copper, zinc and magnesium), essential fatty acids (omegas 3, 6 and 9),
You may already know rosehips are often fed to horses for immune system support and a improved circulation and improved digestive function. So you’re probably wondering what makes Rose-Hip Vital® so special?
Rose-Hip Vital® is made from Rosehips manufactured with patented extraction and drying processes which isolate and activate a galactolipid (fatty acid) called GOPO®. GOPO® has clinically proven anti-
The patented processes also concentrate and preserve the naturally occurring vitamins and minerals, transforming Rose-Hip Vital® into a product that is both in a category all on its own, and across many; It’s a joint antioxidant and a nutritional supplement. It delivers noticeable improvements to mobility, mood, condition, willingness to move forward, performance and recovery while reducing improving general health and wellbeing, and boosting immunity.
Rose-Hip Vital® is a clinically proven plantand rich source of natural vitamin C. There is no product like it. Unlike other joint supplements, Rose-Hip Vital® is 100% plant-
Rose-Hip Vital® is safe for long term use and it does not swab. It can be used alongside conventional treatments and supplements as well as potentially replacing or reducing the medication.
Horses like it so much, even the fussiest of eaters become more enthusiastic about their feed once Rose-Hip Vital is added. So while Rose-Hip Vital Equine has become a highly use, it also has become highly recommended for improving general health and wellbeing, improving performance and maintaining healthy joints.
How does Rose-Hip Vital® Equine lengthen the lifetime of a working horse?
Vital is comprehensive. There are in excess of placebo controlled clinical trials on people, dogs and horses mainly focusing on antithe unique compound GOPO.
To many people, antioxidants and anti-aging go hand-in-hand. Antioxidants are talked about as the antidote to cell-damaging free radicals. Exercise and the associated stress and increase in oxygen consumption are linked to an increased production of free radicals. When the production of free radicals overwhelms the body’s antioxidant defences, oxidative stress can occur with subsequent research shows horses need natural vitamin C to help block toxic free radical activity, which causes damage throughout the body including joints and cartilage.
Some white blood cells in the body contain granulocytes which enable them to ‘clean’
bacteria in it. Too many of these white blood cells wear down tissue cartilage. In large numbers they can also produce chemical enzymes and toxic freeradicals which cause even more tissue damage. Excess accumulation of white blood cells combined with the release of chemical substances cause’s joint pain
The more becomes, the more the white blood cells are attracted to it –a painful cycle.
protects cartilage. This means it helps to delay the onset of arthritic changes or slow down further cartilage degeneration if it already exists.
In short, if you want to extend the lifetime of your working horse, feed it a natural antirich source of natural vitamin C. Rose-Hip Vital® Equine is your only option, and the results speak for themselves.
The usual cause is a hypersensitivity to the bites of flies (in particular sand flies or midges).
While the bite of the flies are an irritation, some horses develop sensitivity to the bite and will rub themselves so much that they cause injury to their skin.
Research shows the cause is an allergic reaction to the chemicals in the saliva of the midges (as with humans).
Not only that, but once or twice a day, stable lies come to the horse, feed vigorously for a minute or two, and then return to the shade to digest their food. These bites can cause intense irritation in some horses. The bites appear as small raised lumps with a central scab.
The effects on the horses can be dramatic. They suffer intense pruritus (itchiness) on the mane, tail, face, ears and back, resulting in biting, rubbing, hair loss, self-trauma and a change of temperament. They become miserable and irritable.
KURITCH has been specially formulated to help assist this problem effectively, in a number of ways:
Firstly, it repels the biting insects using the combination of the natural repellent “Citronella Oil” and a highly effective repellent “DEET”. Secondly, it soothes the irritated areas thus relieving the horse from biting and rubbing, which in turn allows the normal healing process to begin.
It achieves this by the inclusion of the natural antiseptic “Eucalyptus oil” and Camphor oil” which naturally relieves itchy skin.
These significant benefits are also enhanced by the “Rain Resistant” and “Low irritant” formula. As it doesn’t contain alcohol (prevalent in most fly sprays) it won’t “sting” the horse. It can also be applied to surface wounds, minor cuts and skin abrasions to help prevent irritation and possible infection by nuisance insects.
Registered by the APVMA in Australia for over 40 years, extensive field experience has proven KURITCH to be a most effective solution for both preventing and healing distressing skin conditions caused by biting insects.
As well as KURITCH as a repellent, environmental management will also assist in protecting your horse.
Midges breed near stagnant water. As they don’t fly more than a few hundred metres from their breeding area, housing or paddocking your horses more than 500 metres from those areas will reduce their exposure to the flies.
Also rugging, hooding or stabling your horses between the hours of 4pm – 7am during spring and summer will limit the contact of the flies.
Should your horse already be suffering from the effects of allergic skin dermatitis, ensure you use QUIT ITCH to treat and relieve the effects of insect bites.
Since the 1970’s, QUIT ITCH has been an essential weapon in the fight against skin disorders in horses.

The Volta Cargo EV5 is the “must-have” electric vehicle for stables and farm properties. Millions in Asia carry just about anything.
With the ever increasing presence of electric vehicles (EV's) out there, you can guarantee there's one for pretty much any application; for instance, the new Cargo EV5 from Volta. This impressive little machine has all the features you could ask for.
Do you have a need to shift stuff around economically but don't want a stinky, noisy petrol ATV, tractor or quad bike smoking the place out and disturbing the peace?
Cargo EV5 is fully electric, so you never need to visit a servo again.
Cargo EV5 is a versatile, whisper quiet electric cargo trike, ideal for use at the stables, farm stay, or working farm - anywhere where you need to transport lightweight or bulky cargo quickly and with zero emissions.
Your horses will thank you, as Cargo EV5 is whisper quiet - no noisy petrol motor here. Capable of carrying up to 500kg - shifting square bales, stock feed, horse rugs, pony pellets, etc, will be a lot easier than it used to be with a sack barrow.
With its 225 amp-hour battery pack, Cargo EV5 features a driving range of up to 60km on a single charge.
Conveniently charge Cargo EV5 overnight on any standard 10 amp wall outlet - no electrician required.
Afull charge (from dead flat) takes about eight hours, so it's perfect for a day's work,
then plug into the supplied Smart Charger overnight.
Cargo EV5 incorporates innovative batterysaving technology - when a hill descent is detected, or travel speed exceeds motor speed, Cargo EV5 automatically cuts power to the motor to conserve battery - pretty neat.
These electric vehicles cannot be registered for road use, and can't legally be used on public roads or footpaths in Australia.
That said, Cargo EV5 is a great little workhorse and, without a thirst for petrol, will make life much easier.
There's millions of them running on petrol in Asia and they carry just about anything - literally. They're used for anything from a people mover to a vehicle transporter.
Cargo EV5 is available for a special price for The Horse Report readers, just $4,497 all up. If you're interested, please visit the website; www.voltaev.net or call on (02) 6553 6393.

Cross Country venue & event consultation, course design, portable jump design and construction
Australian Cross Country (ACC) was established in 1997 due to demand for cross country services. The principal Wayne Copping has been designing cross country courses and constructing obstacles since 1975 and involved in many events in Australia. Wayne has also designed and built in a number of other countries including the Pan American Games in Toronto in 2015.
The FEI have utilised Wayne’s skills with Course Design workshops, mentoring and seminar presenting as one of the FEI’s Course Design Experts.
Australian Cross Country provides services such as full or partial course design, consultation on venue construction and layout, technical services for events and cross country portable jump design and construction.
Indeed ACC has developed a style and system of building portables in a complete flat pack format. These jumps are built in our shop in such a way they can then be dismantled and marked up and strapped onto bearers. This method means the jumps only take up multiples of pallet space on a transport meaning at least thirty 4* jumps can be accommodated on a drop deck semi trailer. These jumps would all be ranging in jumpable width from 1.4mts to 3.6mts.
The pictures show the conversion from a full scale jump to a flat pack which is easily re assembled on site with a driver drill only. All hardware is included, jumps can be coated with exterior stain to the purchaser’s requirement.
One of the many skills that ACC has is the ability to make artistically and quality designed obstacles to fit with and promote various sponsors that Organising Committees obtain.
Australian Cross Country can also supply any type of training fence for private centres from existing venues to green field sites to suit any levels of training or competition.
ACC was appointed by Spirafix Ground Anchors a few years ago as their Australian distributor, the Spirafix anchor was the first and only anchor that was recommended by the FEI for anchoring portable cross country fences. Avast range is available for all situations and conditions not just the equestrian anchors as shown, these are the only anchors that have been tested under all ground conditions and have all relevant data back up.
These anchors are available on order from Australian Cross Country or through Spirafix Australia. Complete information is available from www.spirafix.com

With less than a month to go before the world’s best equine and human athletes gather in Butheeb (UAE) for the FEI Endurance World Championship 2022, the line-up has been confirmed with 129 combinations representing 37 nations ready to challenge for the 2022 individual and team world titles on Saturday, 25 February 2023.
The 18th edition of the FEI Endurance World Championship, first held in 1986, boasts a remarkably gender balanced field of participants, with 63 female and 66 male athletes entered.
There is an equally impressive diversity in age range of the participants with 55 years separating youngest and first time World Championship competitor, 18-year-old Constanza Pacheco Diaz (ARG) from Canada’s 73-year old Robert Gielen, who will be taking part in his fourth World Championship.
With numbers reminiscent of pre-COVID times, the Championship will see 24 teams compete for the team title, which the Spanish have held firmly within their grip since the World Championship in Caen France in 2014.
For Spain, a fourth consecutive title would set a new record in the sport, but they will face plenty of opposition from other teams vying the top spot, such as Brazil and France – silver and bronze medallists at the World Championship in Italy in 2021.
As well as other former medallists including the Netherlands, Switzerland, Bahrain, Qatar and host nation UAE which is the only other country to boast three consecutive world titles, which they achieved from 2008 to 2012.
From an individual front, all eyes will also be on Spanish and Emirati riders, as they have dominated the field since 2006. Among them, there is Salem Hamad Saeed Al Kitbi (UAE), with his horse Haleh, who will be defending his World title here in Butheeb; Spain’s power couple, Maria Alvarez Ponton and Jaume Punti Dachs who have three individual World titles between them and their compatriot Angel Soy Coll, who is current European Champion. Asuccessful test event held in December 2022, following the allocation to Butheeb at
the FEI General Assembly in November of that same year confirmed that all the systems and footing were on track for a successful World Championship in February.
With an open-house invitation to National Federations (NFs) and teams to experience first-hand the facilities on offer at the Butheeb International Endurance Village (BIEV), the Organising Committee provided a comprehensive overview of what they could expect at the upcoming Championship with the world-class permanent infrastructure featuring state-of-the-art veterinary facilities.
Alongside the 160 km track which will be run over six loops and has been prepared to the highest standard, proper hydration and temperature control have also been optimised with multiple water points throughout the ride for the competitors to rehydrate and cool off.
These will be serviced by many of the volunteers and staff that have dedicated their time and expertise to supporting the event. In addition, the organising committee will
also be implementing a number of actionable sustainable initiatives in a bid to set a new benchmark for future Endurance events and showcase UAE’s commitment to innovation in sustainable ecology in line with their pledge for carbon neutrality by 2050.
“We are excited to see so many athletes and nations confirmed for this important Championship”, said FEI President Ingmar De Vos.
“Sustainable thinking is absolutely key to event planning today, and I am delighted the World Championship in Butheeb has set its sights on becoming a point of reference for environmental sustainability at Endurance rides in the future.
“Thanks to the concerted efforts of the Organising Committee in Butheeb and the UAE Equestrian National Federation, we will have a fantastic backdrop for our sport with all the necessary infrastructures and requirements to ensure our athletes and our horses can perform at their very best, with safety and welfare a priority throughout.”

Chasing our dreams is something we can all probably relate to.
We have all at some point in our lives wanted something, many things more likely, and depending on who we were at the time (child, teenager, young adult, adult etc) we may have set goals to achieve the dream, or simply had a 'pie in the sky' type of approach.
I was recently talking to someone about business and when I asked them why they wanted to make a particular business move, they answered "I have always wanted to". My advice was to consider who the person was who "always wanted" and if that really, truly still was a dream of who you are now, or of the person you once were.
We see this so often with horses.
As we get older and more able to have our 'hearts desire' when it comes to a horse -maybe our kids have grown up, maybe we are semi retired so have more time, or it may just be a simple case of now we are financially able to afford to buy the horse.
I'll often ask someone why they have purchased a horse, and they will answer "He's my dream horse".
The problem is that the dream was dreamt by a 20-year-old, riding every day, uninjured, fit and healthy person who laughed when they occasionally fell off the horse.
The person who ended up achieving the dream is a 50 plus, riding on the weekends, several injuries under their belt, not as-fit-asI-could-be person who, when they fall off (and they fall off a lot more easily these days) at best has to take time off work and spend some days on the couch to recover and at worst has a life changing injury. It is vital that our dreams grow with us, and suit who we are today. You see, the 20-year-old and the 50+ are still
the same person, and the real dream is to have fun with their horse, it's just that the 20-year-old’s idea of fun and the 50+ are two very different things. This time of year is often a time of reflection, perhaps we need to reflect on our goals and dreams, and catch them up with our reality and actual needs.
Food for thought!
Happy trails, TK xo

THE ULTIMATE MOTHERS DREAM!
Freddie is everyone’s favourite when you meet him, he is the ultimate kids pony, and he is always handled by my 2 and 4 year old.
Freddie is the one in the stable that is used for the kids pony rides, or road rides, for the kids to get out and brush and wash. He can be on his own or with others.
He is a top quality Shetland, qualified for grand nationals 2023 and Southern Cross 2023. He has so many winnings, from when first started out as a newcomer, and now this year competing at two Grand National qualification shows and qualifying at both shows.
Freddie is the ultimate Lead rein Shetland, he is also an amazing ridden Shetland. He sits in a frame and does his job for the kids. He goes from the float to the ring no work down. He is now ready to take a little kid to the top. Freddie is a Grand National winning Shetland. He has the best work ethic, but also so well educated. He has no vices, no health issues, good to tie, float and clip. This is a very hard sale.

Chewy has been shown successfully in-hand and under saddle including Currently in light work, ridden by 2 children aged 7 - 15 and going well under saddle. Chewy has a fantastic work ethic taking everything in his stride including new places, showing, jumping, trails, pony club, games. Good breaks however still a semi forward moving pony so suits a capable beginner or novice child.
Chewie is totally handled by children and isn’t fussed by cars, bikes, dogs. Chewy is a definite stand out in the show ring and is expected to continue to do well at the highest level in Leading Rein and/or First Ridden classes. Perfect for a show home to continue his education and reach his maximum potential, suitable for pony club and just for a little rider to love and enjoy.
Great for the farrier, float and able to clip with no sedation. Chewy is of the highest breeding and was started/ previously owned by Andrew Buckley, has correct conformation with three stunning paces.

This maybe is the last opportunity to acquire a foal out of our outstanding TB mare Mireille; dam of TPMaybelline, Mietta, Manhattan, Monte Carlo and Madison Avenue all being Showring champions. She was being retained, however due to time constraints we have decided to make this filly available to a very discernible buyer.
Winnie is now 3 years old and is extremely well handled, rugged floated, lunged and farriered. She is now ready to break in and start her career under saddle. She has matured into a beautiful filly and is possibly one of the best moving up and coming galloways around. Her price reflects the fact she ia currently not in a show prep. She has been seen to windsuck but we regard it as very mild.

Spider is a lovely Welsh gelding with big, ground covering movement, a soft mouth and oozes presence under saddle.
He is a super fun pony to have around, has a playful pony personality and wants to be your friend. Spider is an uncomplicated ride, straight forward and not quirky. He is well educated with beautiful even paces and is training walk to canters and leg yields. He has been shown successfully in hunter and welsh rings.
Spider has also competed in dressage in prelim and novice with scores in the low 70's, he is training elementary at home. Spider has a nice jump on him with wins and championships in combined training. Spider has proven to be a competitive mount in all disciplines he has tried. Spider is easy going and also enjoys a trail ride or riding around the paddock bareback.
Spider is best suited to a capable/confident rider with an independent seat. He is ready to move onto a child rider or small adult wanting a fun, competitive mount - be it pony dressage, interschool’s or showing.

Archie has successfully competed 2 seasons under-saddle and is qualified for GN 2023 in the first ridden show hunter pony.
Qualifying for Grand nationals at his first ever show under-saddle in 2021 and successfully competed at Grand nationals in 2022 receiving top 10 in both the open and child’s and producing flawless workouts.
Archie is not a spooky horse and is super easy to have around. He would happily stand tied up to the float all day. He is happy to pop over small jumps and go on trail rides. He is awesome to clip, shoe, wash etc.
We have owned Archie since a yearling and have done it all with him, it’s a super heartbreaking sale of a much loved member of our family but due to other young horses coming up we have realised it is time to sell Him.
Entered for SHC battle of the borders 2022 is fully qualified for Canberra and Sydney royals 2023.
Archie is not suited to a beginner rider and I feel he would really excel with a top little junior rider that wanted a competitive first ridden and rider mount that is also good enough for the open.

ALLERGIC DERMATITIS are names for distressing skin conditions which affects horses in spring and summer months throughout Australia and around the world.
