ho is ready for Spring? Me....Me....ME!!! Ok, maybe a little too obvious that I’ll be happy when it warms up a bit. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way. We have had some of the strangest weather this year and I’m ready for warm sunshine!.

We’ve got foals due this month around our place. It’s so exciting to see the newborns stand for the first time and then watching them get their legs! It never gets old. I also love coming up with creative names for the foals. Have you got any you’d like to share? (thehorseresource@msn.com)

Speaking of foals...remember to send us pictures of your foals to be included in a future issue. Send us owner info, foal’s sex as well as sire and dam. We love seeing all of the new babies! Don’t forget that April will be our Annual Showbill Edition...we need those showbills reserved asap! Contact us to have your club or organizations event showbill included for only $150! Help For Horse Knee Arthritis boon Posts: 4 I need help my mare that has knee arthritis and I need to know what I can give her to keep her from getting lame or unsound ? Whatever it takes I will do :) we’re I’m really having my problems is the first barrel she won’t rate/nor turn :/ if I can get her we’re she’s filling good or happy so she will go back to winning like she was :) this mare has been hit by a truck on a road in OK .. Took 2 years to recovery . She had a baby then we got her and she came out of pasture and runs a record ?! Then ran her agin and she did not turn the first barrel :/ but its weird cause she will have 5 good amazing runs and than go down ?? Need some advise for me to give her or get a vibrating machines or boots ... That keeps her from not hurting :) ATM she’s in a pasture .. When I bring her back up in April .I will take her to do swimming and build her back up and keep her on the threaplate :) if that’s helps . We have had this mare vet check from (head -to hoof ) there nothing bothering her but her arthritis :( it’s vary bad if she goes to waste in a pasture and not run barrels :/ and before I run her I always wrap her knee with lineaments or when we are going down the road :) and normally magnetic blanket ( also ordering magnetic knee boots ) all I’m trying to do is keep her sound as possible and happy :) Thanks :) :) :) rodeomom3 Shelter Dog Lover Posts: 3538 I have an 18 year old that had a chip we did not know about and developed arthritis in his front knee so he is not a candidate for surgery. According to my vet there is not much you can do other than pain management, they will not be sound again. On flexion test he is about a 1 out of 5 but shows no lameness running or in the pasture and is still working great but he has a huge heart and will always try to do his job.. He is on daily previcox, gets either pentosan or polygylcan once a

Is a little expensive but I’ve seen improvement on a few horses within the first week of using it... soonergirl98 Elite Veteran Posts: 745 Location: OK I have one with arthritis in her knee and she gets alot of extra tlc. She gets all of the following: Animal Element Detox - she stays on the loading dose 2 x per day Animal Element product X - 1/2 a squirt twice a day We use BOT knee boots and magnets 2 times per week on her knee - we will do Bot one day take them off skip a day then put on magnets. She is my daughters horse and they compete in the youth so she is not pushed hard but if there is a race she wears BOT on the way to the race and after they run magnets are put on and left on for at least 24 hours She gets previcoxx daily - 1/4 tab for maintenance if there is a race we give her half a tab the day before, day of and day after I have a Best Vet so we use microcurrency on her bad knee at least 1 x per week We make sure the toes are rounded on the front She is an older mare and vets are always amazed at how she gets around (including Dr. Majors) - she uses her shoulder to pick it up and does not act lame at all. She used to be a 1 D rodeo horse back in the day and she absolutely loves barrels she will still run a 3 D time We also spray a mix of Bigeoil, Green alcohol, and Witch hazel on all her legs after every ride. When its warm we rinse her down with cold water and then use the spray. river runner Veteran Posts: 202 I had one that had chips removed from her

knee and I injected her and kept her on Adequan. When I ran her I used Surpass, starting a couple of days before the first run and continueing through with the number of days that I was away from home. She was a winning 1-D horse and rodeo winner.

justcruzin Bisphosphonates IMO are scary, to many side effects. Do you have any research into the side effects in horses? Would be interesting to read and am wondering if they’re similar to that of humans.

run n rate Posts: 8746 Location: 31 lengths farms The best results I got as far as a feed thru for arthritis was with CytleM (sp) My old bay mare was so crippled up fromt the cold and her arthritis I thought for sure I was going to have to go ahead and put her down. Brought her down to the pen so she wassn’t having o travel the hills for water and feed, put her on the CytlM and about 2 weeks she was trotting around some, kicked her back out and she was back to tearing up and down the hills. She didn’t care fot the tasteat first, had to give her Alfalfa meal to get it in her but she continued to be sound until I had to have her put down due to complication with a tumor about 6 years later.

MissBlaze Expert Posts: 1634 My mare is arthritic in her left knee and I’ve been dealing with it for almost 5 years (she’s 15 now). I get it x-rayed every couple of years to monitor it’s progression. Nothing I can do about it and I know the day will come when she’s deemed as useless. I’ve done joint injections but seriously don’t see any difference afterwards. I’ve tried CortaFlex, ActiFlex 4000, Animal Element, and Lubrisyn with no results. She’s just stiff and doesn’t wanna move. I was lucky enough to get a jar of Cosequin ASU Plus and the results were amazing. She runs the pasture, is a lot more active and I seriously could have used a seatbelt when I rode her. I can’t afford to feed this product all of the time so I’m now using regular Cosequin and mixing in MSM myself. She’s been getting this mixture for two weeks now and she’s not slowed down one bit. Just yesterday she and my 4 yr old were running the pasture and she was kicking his butt. It’s great to see her so active and happy once again.

News Road to the Horse: Judgment Time The fate of the next Road to the Horse Colt Starting World Champion rests in the hands of the selected panel of judges for the 2013 competition. Dan James, Guy McLean, Sarah Winters and Obbie Schlom will need to impress judges: Mike Kevil, Joe Wolter, Ian Francis, Bryan Neubert and Cody Lambert. The four competitors will be judged on their ground technique, confidence, the horse’s understanding and acceptance and the final test of skill: rail work, freestyle and the famous Road to the Horse obstacle course. Competitors have a limited amount of time to demonstrate and display their abilities. After three days of watching both trainer and horse the five judges will have a difficult decision to make, who will be the next Road to the Horse International champion? “Nothing but the best for Road to the Horse and its fans”, says Road to the Horse Producer Tootie Bland. “We have the most experienced Colt Starting judges in the history of Road to the Horse and some of the brightest stars ready and willing to show what they got and prove that they are the World Champion! Mr. Jack Brainard of Tioga, Texas, is known for his contributions to the equine industry and his lifelong commitment to horses and the people who enjoy them. Road to the Horse Head Judge Mike Kevil has spent the last 35 years developing his own training practices to include patience, consistency and understanding the horse. He is the noted author of “Starting Colts, a Western Horseman Book” and its DVD counterparts, “Starting Colts” volumes one and two. Kevil currently resides in Cave Creek, Arizona. From Grass Valley, California, Joe Wolter is known for his patient approach to helping both animals and people. Joe trains horses for the public and competes in cutting, versatility ranch horse and ranch roping events. Joe and wife Jimmie operate their horse training and cattle conditioning ranches in Texas and Montana. Ian Francis, otherwise known as Mr. Versatility in the Australian Quarter Horse Industry is highly respected in Australia and internationally as a master horseman. Ian concentrates on presenting clinics all around Australia, New Zealand and the United States teaching horsemen how to excel. Bryan Neubert, raised near Salinas, California, began his career with some great horseman who were eager to share what they had learned with him. Kentucky Round-Up Attracts 1,100 Attendees Despite Winter Storm February 2nd, the day of the first Kentucky Round-Up, dawned with freezing temperatures and a Winter Weather Advisory for snow and slippery roads in Kentucky. Event planners feared the worst; despite pre-registrations for the new event topping 2,000 people, the weather might keep people at home. But Kentucky youth and horsemen are not to be under-estimated! By the day’s end, over 1,100 people had come through the front doors of the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park, or trailered their horses to the barns to help with demonstrations, pony rides, Kids Corral and other horse-oriented activities. Over 75 vendors and exhibitors lined the concourse, intermingled with hands-on activities such as the Equicizer, a mechanical horse that trains young jockeys; face painting and pin the tail on the donkey in the Paddock area, a photo opportunity board which allowed kids to be the face of an Olympic jumper, a saddle display area, and a breeds and discipline mural. Other activities included demonstrations on the half-hour in the main arena featuring a Mounted Patrol, Reining, Barrel Racing, Mounted Shooting, Driving, Saddle Seat Riding by 5 different breeds, and more. Over 32 speakers combined in three classrooms to offer education for parents, novice horse owners and advanced topics. Six clinicians filled the day out in the round pen area with topics such as Trick Horse Training, Least Resistance Training, Horsenality, Equine Therapy, and Stock Horse Movement Evaluation.

Eastern Tent Caterpillar Outlook for Spring

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 13, 2013) – Experts report that the eastern tent caterpillar egg hatch will likely begin in mid-March for Central Kentucky. “The development of the eastern tent caterpillar – and insects in general – is directly correlated with air temperature. This helps predict when they will be active,” said Lee Townsend, University of Kentucky College of Agriculture entomologist. “Temperature data from UK’s Ag Weather Center so far shows a pattern in Central Kentucky that is very similar to 2012.” According to Townsend, temperature information can help to predict when eggs will begin to hatch but will give no clue as to how many caterpillars will be present in a given area. “Last year’s experience is the best thing to go by,” he said. “There has been a gradual but relatively steady general increase in tent caterpillar numbers, and they have become much more apparent in some areas over the past few years. However, concentrations can be spotty, heavy in some areas and very light in others. The eastern tent caterpillar overwinters in ring-like masses of 100 to over 400 eggs around pencil-sized twigs. A relatively small increase in the number of egg masses from one year to the next can mean a big jump in caterpillar numbers.” The eastern tent caterpillar is active early each spring. It is an important insect in horse country due to its role in Mare Reproductive Loss Syndrome, which resulted in staggering losses of foals in the 1999-2001outbreak. MRLS can cause late-term foal losses, early- and late-term fetal losses and weak foals. Subsequent studies by UK researchers revealed that horses will inadvertently eat the caterpillars, and the caterpillar hairs embed into the lining of the alimentary tract. Once that protective barrier is breached, normal alimentary tract bacteria may gain access to and reproduce in sites with reduced immunity, such as the fetus and placenta. According to Townsend, horse owners with spring-foaling mares should now check their fence lines for wild cherry trees and in a few weeks for signs of tent caterpillar activity.

“This is a good time to prepare,” Townsend said. “Begin by checking pasture fence lines to see how abundant wild cherry is in them. If practical, plan to move pregnant mares from areas where these trees are abundant to minimize the chance of exposure to the caterpillars. The potential is greatest when the mature tent caterpillars leave trees and wander to find places to pupate and transform to the moth stage.”

A record purse of $281,796 is set for the 2013 Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2) to be run at Louisiana Downs. A record number of 135 Louisiana state-bred two-year-olds will go the post on Monday (February 25) to compete in 14 trials races over 300 yards. The 12 fastest qualifiers will return March 16 and vie for the record breaking winner’s purse. A field of nine will compete in five trials and a full gate of 10 will faceoff in the other nine time trials. First post is set for noon (CST) at the Northeastern Louisiana raceway. On Tuesday, February 26, trials will be run for the $84,404 Mardi Gras Derby(RG3) for 3-year-old Louisiana-breds at 400 yards. Longshots score upset in Hialeah’s closing day stakes HIALEAH, Fla., (February 17, 2013) – Historic Hialeah Park drew its 2012-13 season to a close with a bang on Sunday as longshots claimed three out of the card’s four stakes races. Classy Cora too classy for Sailfish field Jockey Robert Cummings used his experience riding Thoroughbreds to steer CLASSY CORA to the wire in front of the field for the 1,000yard, $27,000 Sailfish Stakes on Sunday. Cummings took the Coronas Prospect filly out to an early lead of 3 ½ lengths and never looked back, holding off late charges at the wire by 1 ¾ lengths. “I loved the one hole, loved the horse, loved the trainer and all that,” said Cummings. Classy Cora, who went off at odds of 11-1, is a homebred for owner Bill Baker Haithcoat, and is trained by Ron David. She completed the distance in 53.698 seconds and paid $24.80, $11.80, and $4.00. “There’s a sentimental story behind the horse in that the owner passed away after she ran the last time in the program, so we knew he was over top of us watching us, and we had a lot of spirit going into it,” said Cummings. David said that Classy Cora’s big heart and half Thoroughbred breeding gave her a leg up on her competition in the Sailfish. Standardbred racing starts on April 2nd at Hoosier Park and runs through November 9th. Post times are Tuesday-Saturday at 5:30pm. Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse Racing starts with their first meet of 2013 live racing on April 23 at Indiana Downs and runs through June 20th. The second meet begins on July 1 and runs through October 19.

The Indiana Horse Racing Commission has released the 2013 Racing Calendars for Thoroughbred and Quarter Horses (below) as well as the Standardbred dates.

Quarter Horses will have six days of “All Quarter Horse Race Days.” The dates will be: May 25, June 21, July 6, August 10, September 21 and October 12.

Oh, That Smile...... I was hoping to have a picture to share with you this month. It’s just really hard to get a smart phone camera to work well with paws. (Not quite as easy as the keyboard.) Maybe next month I can try again. You have got to see this dog smile. Duke, that is. To tell you the truth, it kind of freaks me out. I mean, really? How many dogs do you know that smile? He actually rolls his lip up and shows his teeth. I think the first time he grinned at them, the people thought maybe he was going to bite. But oh no, not Duke. He’s a big teddy bear. Now the people think it is so cute, they’ve even let him start sleeping on the back porch of the house. Next thing you know he’ll be on the couch with me! (That’s all I want to do after a nap...wake up to that big toothy grin...ahhh!) When it got really cold last month, the felt bad for him sleeping in the garage, so they moved his bed to the back porch where there is some

heat. I have to admit, it’s only fair. I don’t mind, really. He won me over last year with the way he was over the baby foals. Other than Duke’s promotion, it’s been somewhat calm around the ranch for the past month. Maybe that’s why the lady of the house started talking about bringing home another little dog for inside the house. I think she wants something to keep me company that is closer to my size. Little does she know, I am just fine the way things are! The last thing I need is another canine to try and keep in line. Good grief! And her other reason is because she says I’m not a “lap dog!” humph! Just because I only rest in her lap when I want and how long I want, she thinks she needs another little dog. Knowing my luck it will be another “Princess!” Heaven forbid.

uring the rest of the morning and early afternoon, she’d run back and forth; then she’d realize how tired she was and curl up on the ground for a nap while mom stood and watched over her. When the nap was over, she’d feel all big and strong again; and away she’d go, back and forth. “Mom, this is the best day ever! This is amazing.” “Wait, just a minute”, she thought as she skidded to a stop in the dirt, “What is that sound? It sounds kinda like the humans’ laughing. No, this sounds meaner, not so nice.” She looked down to the other end of the arena and saw two small faces, about the same size as hers, looking at her through the gate. She realized this had to be Pistol and Sweet Pea. They were talking to each other; then gesturing toward Kit Kat; then laughing and talking more. “Mom, can I run down to see them? I’ve heard them, but never have seen them or met them. I’d really like to show them how fast I am.” There was something different about mom’s look. She softly and gently said, “You can if you want; but you might want to stay here with me.” And, then, because she was so smart, it came to her. They were laughing at her. And, it wasn’t a nice laugh like the humans laughed when they looked at her so lovingly. It had a mean sound to it. She hung her head low and walked slowly to a place behind mom where she knew they couldn’t see her.

Ask the Vet wi t h Dr. Steve Fi s ch Let’s Review: Why A Breeding Soundness Exam? Article By Dr. Steve Fisch, DVM

s the new year rolls in, many breeders are considering adding new mares to the broodmare band and some new stallions off the track are heading to the breeding shed. If these new mares are not pregnant then a breeding soundness exam (BSE) is usually a good investment that can prevent a lot of wasted time and money that is spent trying to get a mare pregnant that actually has some reproductive issues that can keep her from becoming pregnant. A BSE should also be performed on mares that failed to become pregnant or carry a foal to term in the previous breeding season. It is equally important for stallions to have a (BSE) before the upcoming breeding season. Waiting until breeding season is underway and having mares start showing up not pregnant not a good idea. Dr. Joe Fisch collecting a stallion for BSE and Dr. Steve Fisch handling the stallion. Each BSE should be designed to fit the individual mare or stallion and the situation that is presented. Keep in mind that the results of a BSE cannot be feeds the foal. The vulvar conformation should be evaluated as some used to guarantee the fertility of any mare or stallion. A BSE can only mares and especially older or thin mares will have vulvas that tip be used to evaluate the potential fertility of the mare or foal at the time forward or have poor vulvar tone. Some mares have a sunken anus. All of the examination. these defects predispose the mare to uterine infections. History is always an important part of a BSE. In the case of the mare BSE it is important to know when the mare has previously been pregnant and if there were any years she did not produce a live foal, what years those were. It is also helpful to know the breeding management program the mare has been under in past breeding years. The physical exam part of the BSE begins with an overall evaluation of the mares condition including body weight and condition of the teeth since dental health is directly related to body condition. A mare is more likely to become pregnant if her weight is good and she is actually gaining weight at the time of conception. If the mare is too thin or too fat her nutritional program should be adjusted accordingly. The mare’s external genitalia should be examined including the mammary glands as the mammary glands will produce the milk which We would like to help you get your horse health questions answered by a knowledgeable equine veterinarian. The internal portion of the exam includes a thorough palpation and ultrasound exam. The uterus and ovaries are examined to make sure they are normal size and shape. The ultrasound exam allows the uterus to be examined for uterine fluid, uterine cysts and other abnormalities. This part of the exam allows for the determination of the stage of the mare’s cycle. The next part of the exam is the vaginal speculum exam. This allows visualization of the vagina, vestibule, and cervix to check for adhesions, urine pooling and varicose veins. At this point a uterine culture and cytology is performed. These tests give information that can identify uterine bacterial or fungal infections. If the mare has a history of infertility, a uterine biopsy is probably indicated as long as there is enough time to allow about sixty days between the biopsy and breeding the mare.

When all the lab results are in and they have been combined with the physical exam findings, an intelligent evaluation can be made of the mare’s chances to maintain a full term pregnancy or to produce an embryo for embryo transfer. The data can also help determine a treatment plan for mares with uterine infections. These treatments may include antibiotic therapy, caslick’s surgery, acupuncture and a multitude of other treatments that will be decided on with the owner and veterinarian putting all the pieces of the puzzle together. Additional hormonal therapy may be added before or during breeding season. BSE of the stallion also includes a thorough history from previous years and any medications the stallion may have been on while racing or showing if he is a retiring race or show horse. The history should include the previous breeding management programs, the number of mares bred, the first cycle pregnancy rate and the seasonal pregnancy rate for all previous breeding seasons. The stallions temperament and ease of collection should be part of the history. Just as with the mare, body condition and overall health is important. The stallion’s BSE includes examination of the stallion’s genitalia, semen collection and collection of samples for culture along with an Equine Viral Arteritis test. The cultures are taken from the stallion’s semen, prepuce, urethra and urethral fossa. These cultures allow the identification of any bacteria that are growing in the reproductive tract that may affect fertility. The EVA test can be taken with a blood sample. If it comes up negative then the negative test should be documented and the stallion vaccinated with an approved EVA vaccine. Most breeding farms require incoming shipped semen to be from EVA negative and vaccinated stallions. If the blood sample comes up positive for EVA because of a previous vaccination that was undocumented, the semen can be tested for EVA viral isolation. If the stallion is truly EVA negative but tested blood positive because of a previous vaccination, the semen viral isolation test will prove he is EVA negative. The libido and ability to mount a breeding phantom or live mare is evaluated. While the stallion is being prepared for semen collection his penis is evaluated for any abnormalities or injury. If there has been more than a week since the stallion’s previous collection, a second collection should be performed an hour or so after the first so that a more accurate estimate of daily sperm output (DSO) can be obtained. DSO is used to predict the number of mares a stallion can impregnate in a breeding season. DSO can also be estimated by measuring the size of the testicles with ultrasonography. Testicular size is directly related to DSO. Ultrasonography of the testicles allows for evaluation of any abnormalities such as tumors or scar tissue from previous injuries. The semen is evaluated for color, morphology, volume, concentration, raw and extended motility. The motility is evaluated for total progressively motile sperm. The semen is also evaluated for its ability to survive shipping, cooling and freezing if shipping and freezing semen enter into his reproductive management plan. If the BSE is being performed because of subpar fertility then other tests such as endoscopy, biopsy, sperm chromatin structure assay and hormonal analysis may be indicated. Just as with the mare BSE, the final evaluation is done when all the tests results are available. Also like the mare, the stallion BSE does not guarantee a stallion’s reproductive abilities but it can be a good predictor of a stallion’s ability to impregnate mares. The results of all the tests will determine how many mares he can breed per day and per breeding season. While a BSE requires some time and financial investment, it is usually well worth the time and money to know where the mare and stallion stand reproductively before they are well into the breeding season. Working together with your equine reproductive veterinarian can go a long way toward having a successful breeding season. Page 29

INDIANA HORSE RACING COMMISSION – The 2013 Quarter

Horse Breed Development Program was presented and unanimously approved by the Commission at the February 22nd IHRC meeting. Additionally, the following Rule Changes were presented by the Quarter Horse Breed Development Advisory Committee and approved by the Commission.

71 IAC 14.5-3-5 – Open Stakes Bonus Repealed – There will no longer be a bonus paid to Indiana Bred Horses that Qualify for an Open Stake Race.

71 IAC 14.5-3-4 – Purse Supplement in open races – A purse supplement of Þfteen thousand dollars ($15,000) is to be paid to the owner of an Indiana bred that Þnishes Þrst, second or third when competing in any open overnight race, excluding trials and claiming races. The supplement shall be distributed in the same manner and percentages in which purses are paid.

This new look is just the beginning of some signiÞcant changes that will be rolled out in the 2013 marketing plan of the Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana. The new plan aims to customize relevant content to the individual needs of the many partners that are connected to Quarter Horse Racing in the State of Indiana. In order to accomplish this, we’ve developed the new brand we call “inQ”. It will serve as the gateway to the fast-paced world of Indiana Quarter Horse Racing. Quarter Horse Racing

RACING IN INDIANA IN 2013 – The acquisition of Indiana Downs and it’s casino in Shelbyville, Indiana was Þnalized on February 20th by Indianapolis-based Centaur Holdings, LLC. Centaur also owns Hoosier Park in Anderson. Along with this announcement, Rod Ratcliff , Centaur Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, announced the following personnel: John Schuster is the GM of Racing at Indiana Downs, Rick Moore is the GM of Racing at Hoosier Park, and Brian Elmore is the VP of Racing for Centaur.

Indiana Downs will be home for Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred Racing in 2013 – From the day the track opens for training to the last day of racing in October, Quarter Horses and TB’s will be running at Indiana Downs. No more transitioning from track to track in July. There will be more barns built at Indiana Downs to create 300 more stalls, but until they are ready, there will be stalls rented at Turfway Park to accommodate some horses in training. Indiana Downs is footing the bill for the stall rent and Daily Vans to get horses to Indiana Downs for racing.

Quarter Horse Racing Dear Quarter Horse Racing Enthusiast, I wanted to take some time to personally Þll you in on some details of the day to day runnings of the Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana. There have been many great changes and additions to our industry in the past month, here are just a few: Our board of Directors has been busy over the past month and I am happy to report to you that we have three new members who have joined our team. I wanted to congratulate Patrick Rowels for being elected to serve on the board of directors for a 3 year term. I also wanted to congratulate Vic Conway and Candice Newell on being appointed to the board by our president, Chris Duke, after FebruaryÕs board meeting. We are excited at the prospect of their addition and look forward to working with them to further Quarter Horse Racing in the state of Indiana. I have some additional information regarding the new additions to Indiana Downs. The new barns at Indiana Downs are scheduled to be completed by July 29th. In order to accommodate all the horses this spring, as part of the transition plan, Centaur will rent 150 stalls from Turfway Park in neighboring Kentucky. The Indiana allotment, along with commitments from other horsemen, will allow Turfway to remain open as a training center. Indiana Downs will be footing the bill for the stall rental and the transportation of horses from Turfway to Indy Downs for racing. In the area of news related to our races this year, the Indiana Downs Stake Race Schedule has been released! The Þrst nominations are due by April 1st, so mark your calendar and get them in so you arenÕt faced with a late fee, or possibly get left out of the action. Scott Piene, the racing secretary at Indiana Downs is working on the Condition Books and they will be ready around the 3rd week in March. They will also be available online at QHRAI.NET and INDIANADOWNS.COM. The track is tentatively set to open for training around March 17th. We will keep updates on QHRAI.NET. This year there are 6 days designated for All Quarter Horse Race Days in addition to the normal races we run at the end of the TB card. Check out the Indiana Downs Race Calendar in this Magazine for race dates and post times. April 5-7, 2013 marks the historic 35th year for the Hoosier Horse Fair & Expo at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana will be there once again to promote the great sport of Quarter Horse Racing to many people who are already in the horse world. We will have many promotions that are geared towards increasing attendance at the live races! Youth Day Applications are currently available on the QHRAI website! If you have a son or daughter, neighbor, niece, nephew, grandchild, or if you are between the ages of 14 and 18 years old and want to see Þrsthand the behind the scenes process of our racing industry, please Þll out the application in this magazine or online. This experience includes helping race horses in training and the opportunity to help a trainer get his horse ready for a race and participate in the paddock walk with the trainer and the horse. Youth day is going to be June 15th and the Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana is proud to partner with Indiana Downs to host this event. Finally, the Legislative Session is now in full swing and will be until the end of April. This year, as in every year since the passing of racinos, the Horse Racing Industry is at risk of having the money that the track puts into the horse racing purse accounts reduced. Now is the time to contact your legislators and tell them about the amount of money you personally put into the Indiana Economy because you race horses. Tell them that you contribute to the one billion dollars of total economic impact and that any reduction in the amount of money that is dedicated to horse racing will cause a greater loss to Indiana. Important Information for 2013 Regarding Existing Out of Competition Rules

All horses nominated to stake races will be eligible for out of competition testing from the day of nomination. Several drugs were added to Out of Competition Testing for 2011 including Zilpaterol, Ractopamine or any similar agent. If you have any questions about any of these rules, please refer to Indiana Code 71 IAC 8.5-2-5 and 71 IAC 8.5-3-4. You may also contact the Indiana Horse Racing Commission at http://www. in.gov/hrc/ or (317) 233-3120. How This Affects You • Once a horse is nominated to a stake race, he WILL be in the pool of horses used for selection of Out of Competition Testing. • If the owner/trainer has been contacted and notified that their horse has been selected for Out of Competition Testing, that horse must be produced at the track by the time provided by the IHRC. • If the horse is not brought to the race track within the allotted time, the horse will be ineligible to race in Indiana for one year. • The current trainer MUST be named at the time of nomination. If there is a change of trainer at any time, the new information must be forwarded to the Q.H.R.A.I. immediately. • If a nominated horse becomes lame, sick or for any other reason will NOT compete in the trials or finals, he must be officially scratched through the QHRAI (prior to being contacted by IHRC) or he will remain eligible for ALL Out of Competition Rules. • Except for stake races where high money earners are preferred, there will be no refunds of nominations or payments. By signing and submitting this stakes nomination form, the trainer is hereby agreeing to abide by Indiana Horse Racing code. Once this nomination is received by QHRAI, you will receive a reminder for next payment date and a list of nominated horses. Sustaining payments must be submitted on time whether or not you receive this reminder. Nomina¬tions and sustaining payments will be added to the stakes purses. A 20% marketing and administration fee will be withheld from all open stakes nomination and sustaining payments. Late payments - If nomination is missed - double the missed nomination plus the first sustaining payment. Must be postmarked by the first sustaining payment date. Late pay after first sustaining payment is double missed payments plus $5,000 plus 2nd sustaining payment. Must be postmarked by June 1st. Cowboy Mounted Shooting Raw Horsepower - Hard Ridin’ - Straight Shootin’

HEAD’EM UP... MOVE’EM OUT! If you were born in the 50’s or maybe early 60’ s chances are you know what TV show made those words famous. Well, in a week or so, several of the Midwest Region’s, Cowboy Mounted Shooters are headen out to Houston, Texas for the Houston Livestock Show where they will compete for the AQHA World Champion Mounted Shooter title. The Midwest Region will be well represented by mounted shooters looking to bring the “AQHA World Champ” trophy buckle back to one of the region’s 5 states. 1st Ohio’s president, Joyce Nelson and her AQHA partner “I’m Smokey Eyed” (aka Smokey) will be one of the competitions Senior Cowgirl level 6’s. Joyce and Smokey have had a very successful year getting qualified for Houston. AQHA qualifing events are held along with the CMSA produced Championship events held accross the United States. Joyce is from Okeana, Ohio and has been competing in Mounted Shooting for approximately 7-8 years. She started mounted shooting on her Rocky Mountain trail horse, as her shooting skills developed so did her “need for speed” so she retired the Rocky Mountain and with the help of friend found the good solid seasoned shooting horse, Smokey. The pair bonded immediately as a world class team and have acheived many titles throughout their mounted shooting competitions. “BEST OF LUCK “ to to all the Midwest shooters! Bobby Ruwe, OH, will be the AQHA/CMSA Rangemaster for this prestigious event. To Joyce and Smokey...”GOOD LUCK”... safe travel..have fun and bring home a HUGE WIN! Our horses are happy to be on R&R, however, I think even they are ready to get back in the groove, as well. 1st Ohio’s Year End Banquet was a huge success, good food, excellent company and outstanding awards! The banquet committee absolutely out did themselves. The evening started with Happy Hour where we all got to catch up on “whats been happening” since the last shoot. Then we moved right along to a fantastic dinner, tasty vittles provided by the Kings Island Resort & Conference Center.

The awards presentation to the officers and board members for their great job sharing time and efforts to keep 1st Ohio’s reputation at the top! If you were a member at a1st Ohio shoot, you got a special award! The Silent Aution was cramed full of super donations for bidding! and the Reverse Raffle was unique...everyone that bought a ticket was a winner! How long have you been riding: “Since I could sit up and hold onto the saddle horn.” Then when I was 4 yrs old, I did Junior rodeo. I participated in barrel racing, pole bending, mutton busting and goat tying. We had so much fun doing that. All the rodeos in the mud, camping with friends hanging out with all our horse friends. Who taught you to ride: My parents, Kenny and Jamie Jarrell. When I could barely sit up, they would put me on our miniature pony, Muffin, and lead me around the yard. I had her for 13 years, she died last fall. Goals: To accomplish what my mom has. To be a State Champion, to win the All American Quarter Horse Congress and to rodeo and eventually make it to the NFR, in Vegas. Who is your mentor? My mother, Jamie. She is the one that taught me how to ride and run barrels and poles. Also Jeanette Smith has influenced my life and she was also the lady that influenced mother. She has probably forgotten more than I will ever know about horses. Other Animals: My cat, “Martha Jane”, my dog Rucker (Corgi), and Scooter, the 32 year old gray mare I rode in Junior Rodeo. Favorite show: Cloverdale. Why? Because it has a nice big arena, nice barn. Great place to show at and very clean stalls. Love it all being under one roof. What do you want to do after High School? I want to go to college at Purdue University and study to become a Vet. Hopefully to become as successful as Dr. Brad King. Activities outside of horses: Zumba, running cross country, hang out with friends and shopping, also Playing with my brother, Jake and hanging out at the barn.

Clint is a graduate of East Central High School. His parents are Terrie VanVolkenburgh and respectively Joe Trentman. He has grown up in the horse world, both parents have rode almost all their life...Clint's grandfather as some of you may remember was the late Terry VanVolkenburgh, who would run up and down the fences when his daughters would run barrels. Clint began barrel racing at the age of 4 with a pony, then went on to particpate in Jr. Rodeo and his favorite event was the sheep riding, hard to believe he is now a barrel racer. He has won the Ohio Youth NBHA and Indiana Youth and Open NBHA , he has also won the Congress youth barrel four times, and was runner up in the Congress Sweepstakes. He placed at Josey Jr. world numerous times, and won the NBHA Youth World 1D in 2006. He loves to barrel race and is now trying his hand at the futurities. In Clint's spare time he mows grass for a part time job and is also very active in his church where he and his cousins are bible school helpers. Clint also volunteers one day a week at a school in Cincinatti where he spends time tutoring other kids in reading.

MAKING MEMORIES OF A LIFETIME

If you had told me 12 months ago, that I would travel to Las Vegas and attend two rounds of the National Finals Rodeo, that I would get Tuff Cooper’s autograph and hang out with Luke Branquino in the NHSRA booth, that I would visit the fountains at the Bellagio, the canal in the Venitian, and see the volcano at the Mirage, I would have laughed at you. If you had told me 12 months ago that I would be at the Fort Worth Stock Yards watching long-horned cattle driven up the brick streets, that I would hang out with the NHSRA National Queen, Maicie Bullock , would meet Tod Sloan and chat about saddles, attend the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, and give a power point presentation to a room full of National Directors from all over the country and Canada, I would have told you that you were crazy. But that is exactly what has happened; and these are just a few of my experiences since being elected the National High School Association’s Junior High Secretary. Hi! I am Grace Hasler and I am a member of Indiana’s NHSRA Junior High Team and I would like to take this opportunity to tell you more about this amazing association. Being a member of the National High School Rodeo Association Junior High Division has been a life-changing experience for me! I encourage anyone, with interest in the sport of rodeo in the 6th, 7th or 8th grade, to join our Indiana NHSRA Junior High Team. Our Indiana Junior High Team competes in six two-day rodeos (total of twelve) rodeos each year beginning in September and ending in April with our Indiana NHSRA Junior High State Finals. The majority of our rodeos are held in conjunction with the Indiana Junior Rodeo Association, two weekends are with our Indiana High School Association, and the Junior High Indiana team travels to Kentucky in March each year for the Quad State Rodeo which includes Jr. High teams from Kentucky, 2012-2013 NHSRA National Secretary Illinois, and Mis2012 Indiana NHSRA JH Rookie of the Year souri. at the National Finals Rodeo held at Red Rock Park in Gallup, New Mexico at the end of June. Our complete schedule can be seen on the IJRA website, ijra.org. The National Junior High Finals Rodeo, in New Mexico, has grown into one of the largest rodeos in the country welcoming 900+ competitors from 41 states, 5 Canadian provinces and Australia. There are also many scholarship opportunities for members of the NHSRA Junior High Division. Professional’s Choice offers an Equine Athlete of the Month and a Student Athlete of the Month; giving away a 4-pack of SMB Elite Sport Medicine Boots and an Air-Ride pad 12 times each year. Of the 12 finalists, a “Equine Athlete of the Year” and a “Student Athlete of the Year” for Professional’s Choice are chosen and awarded a $1000 scholarship each. Cinch & Lubrisyn both give away several scholarships and National Student officers receive college scholarships, as well. After being encouraged by my friend, Sydney Hurley, the 2010-2011 National Secretary, I was hooked. We created campaign posters, stickers, buttons and bought a lot of candy to hand out at the National Finals in New Mexico. My sister, Mel, and my Ribbon Roping partner, Trevor Colby, gave me plenty of “material” on the 24 hour trip to Nationals, to write the two speeches that each candidate is required to give. My teammates from Indiana and my friends from Kentucky, handed out countless stickers and candy; encouraging delegates from all over the country to vote for me. LANE McPHEETERS INDIANA’S FIRST NATIONAL CHAMPION

me and my buddies sat there and watched the last two guys. As soon as the last guy went, I knew I had it won.” Lane’s time of 2.073 seconds moved him to the lead in the round and the average and cinched his National Title.

I would like to introduce you to Indiana’s First NHSRA Junior High National Champion, Lane McPheeters! Lane is a freshman from Salem, Indiana where he lives with his mom and dad, Chuck and Lori McPheeters, and his three younger brothers, Layton, Landon and Roper. Lane competed in the Southern Indiana Junior Rodeo from kindergarten, through 8th grade, and competed in the Indiana Junior Rodeo for the past three years. Throughout his Jr. Rodeo years, he brought home 9 All Around Titles, 5 Saddles and over 50 buckles. He played football when he was younger, but has given that up to rodeo full time and has recently started training rope horses after school and on weekends. Lane won the Chute Dogging National Title at the 2012 NHSRA Junior High National Finals in Gallup, New Mexico. However, if you ask Lane what he really likes to do, he will tell you he is a roper. “I’m a roper, and nearly everyone I know is a roper. I’m big and strong, so I was pretty good at Chute Dogging. But I’m done with that for now.” He spent all of his time preparing for Nationals roping calves every day. Chute Dogging was just an event he did to earn extra points towards his all around. Bringing home a National Championship and a Tod Slone trophy saddle in Chute Dogging isn’t too shabby for a kid whose passion is roping. The competitors at the NHSRA Finals compete in two rounds throughout the week-long rodeo, to qualify in the top twenty to run in the Short Go, or Final Round, on Saturday. Lane won the first round with a 2.064-second run. He recorded a time of 3.277 seconds in the second round which left him with a time of 5.341 seconds on two head and moved him into the finals sitting in third place. “The short round was moving pretty fast, so it was kind of a blur,” Lane said. “After my run,

Lane qualified for the Finals in four events: Chute Dogging, Ribbon Roping, Team Roping and Tie-Down Roping. He took eighth in the first round of Tie-Down with an 11.844 -second run. He finished 28th in the average in the event. In Ribbon Roping, he teamed with Anna Dietrich to take 14th in the second round with a 9.673-second run. The two placed 22nd in the final average standings in that event. Now that Lane is in high school, he plans to spend the next year or two concentrating on open rodeos and ropings before returning to NHSRA competition in his junior year. Indiana is so proud of its First National Champion, Lane McPheeters; and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this Indiana cowboy! Rodeo News from the

Indiana High School Rodeo Association

Mid-Winter Wrap Up What a great winter it has been so far! I am extremely excited for the upcoming spring season! But first here is a recap of our winter events so far: In January, myself and our Queen Camrie Goodson, and our Secretary Korri Allen traveled to the great state of Texas for the national mid winter meeting for the NHSRA. It was an amazing experience and I am so glad we were given that opportunity. We met a lot of amazing new friends, and got to explore the town of Fort Worth. Our first visit was to the cowboy hall of fame, and the ever-famous Billy Bobâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Texas. My favorite part of our trip was getting the chance to go to the Fort Worth Stock Show. The arena was amazing, and it was by far the coolest pro rodeo I had ever seen. My other favorite part of our trip was to meet with officers from all over the country and make new friends. But getting down to business, we attended many important meetings where there were rule book changes, schedule changes for nationals, and new and interesting ideas for gaining more membership. It is always cool to see behind the scenes of what makes an amazing association, like the National High School rodeo association, run. There are so many hardworking people who have put in so much of their time and effort into making

IHSRA NEWS this association a functioning machine, and this association could not run with out their sacrificing attitudes. Our own mid winter meeting in February was a huge success! We started off with our normal board meeting, then we had the membership meeting. We there elected new officers for our board, and gave the general membership a recap of newly made decisions, and us officers who traveled to Texas, gave a recap of our trip. Then after a comical scholarship fundraising game, the parents went to their silent auction while the students had their annual cowboy prom. It was a fun time, and I am sad that that will be my final mid winter meeting for high school rodeo because they are always such memorable experiences. I am looking forward to our spring schedule and can’t wait to get back into the rodeo swing! I wish all of our contestants the best of luck and a happy spring season!! Mid-Winter Meeting NHSRA, Fort Worth, TX This year I had the privilege of traveling with the Indiana High School Rodeo Student Officers to Texas. The reason we went to Fort Worth was because it was the National High School Rodeo Mid-Winter Meeting. Last year the meeting was held in Denver, Colorado. I had the privilege of traveling to Texas with my mother Lola Goodson, as our chaperone. This trip was my first time ever flying or even going to the airport. I will admit I was scared; I had never been on a plane. It was scary but everyone at the Louisville Airport was very nice. I felt my nerves fading away, and as I boarded the airplane I knew this was going to be one of the most amazing journeys. My mom was by my side the whole way, I still wonder if she has any feeling in her hand anymore. When we arrived at The Dallas Airport we had one wild shuttle ride to our Hotel in Fort Worth. We then met up with our Indiana National High School Rodeo Director Terry Haller, and Indiana High School Rodeo Student President Katie George, and Student Secretary Korri Allen. Our Indiana High School Rodeo Vice-President Strand Barricklow was not able to attend the trip to Texas due to winter sports. Our first official day in Fort Worth, Texas was spent attending meetings. We had to get up very early, our very first meeting was the Queen Committee, which started at 8am. The members of the National Queen Committee discussed any changes and new details for the NHSFR in 2013. I then attended the Youth Advisory Meeting with Katie, Korri, and Terry. After the meeting we all relaxed and did a little swimming. That night we attended the opening night of “The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo”. The rodeo runs from Jan.18th to Feb 9th every night. It made our night to see J.W. Harris and all the Wright rodeo boys. Day two in Texas was a guided tour of the Stockyards in Fort Worth. It was quite amazing! We rode two huge tour buses and went down in to the heart of the Stockyards. Pam Mackey, owner of Billy Bob’s and a famous cowgirl, was our tour guide; we first went to the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame. Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame honors numerous Texas men and women who have excelled in the sport of rodeo, cutting, ranching, and sport medicine. We toured some of the Stockyards and was served some great tasting barbecue for lunch at Billy Bob’s Texas. Our National Director, Terry Haller, treated us to dinner in the Stockyards eating district and then we walked over to Billy Bob’s for the Lee Brice concert.

Day three in Texas, the officers spent most of the day touring all of the Stockyards shops. We had a blast, shopped til we dropped, and took many funny pictures. The furniture shops in Texas gave me an insight into what my home will look like in the future. That night we attended the Banquet and Action for the NHSRA. We had a lot of fun with a head and tales game and the auction was quite funny while raising money for the association. Day four was a sad day, it was the day we had to pack up and leave the great state of Texas and all the new friends we had made. If you have never been to the Dallas Airport it was huge. We first waited for Korri and Katie to board their flight home to Indianapolis then we boarded a tram to the other side of the airport to board our flight back home. My trip to Texas was amazing, it was an honor to go and represent our great state of Indiana. It was a blast to get to catch up with the queens after not seeing each other since Nationals in Wyoming. It was great to meet the other student officers, and talk about how they handle things inside their state. To all the rodeo contestants, think about running for an office, to represent your State and the opportunity to attend this National Meeting, it is a great way to learn how the organization works and all the fantastic folks who work hard to make our High School Rodeos possible. Misplace Something?

How frustrating is that? You head out to the barn to saddle up your favorite mount and as you’re grooming away the dirt and dust, you look down and notice something isn’t right. One, two, three......only three shoes. Where is that fourth shoe? Then you realize that you probably need to go look for the ever elusive shoe in he pasture. We’ve all been there...walking circles in a dry lot or combing through a grassy pasture with some form of metal detection - be it metal detector, magnet or rake. Sometimes I’ll saddle up another horse and ride out to look from a higher vantage point. Thank God my turn out lots aren’t that big. That’s not the only thing I find myself out looking for around the barn. When there are several people pitching in to do chores, it seems that things get moved often. Sometimes I’m looking for my favorite green apple picker...I call it “Squeaky Green.” (It squeaks when I’m cleaning stalls. What? You mean you don’t have a pet name for your favorite stall fork? You may not be spending enough time together! lol!) There are several days out of the month when I am looking for a hoof pick - you know - that one that was just hanging on that nail and now it’s not. And then there’s my favorite, the disappearing wire cutters. I think I have twenty pair of those things....all in different colors. I just don’t know where any of them are hiding. Needless to say, I spend way too much time searching for things that have been misplaced, sometimes by me and sometimes by others. That is just in the barn....don’t get me started on the house! It is like that in our faith walk. Just like those wire cutters that we don’t realize are missing until we need to cut some baling wire...so goes our faith.

I mean, last week things may have been going along just like we planned and our faith was placed in our job or our significant other or even in our own abilities. God has a way of getting our attention and reminding us that we need to be placing our faith in Him.

How many times do we think about trusting God to meet our needs when we have plenty in the bank? It’s easy to get wrapped up in life and misplace our trust in earthly things to meet our needs. But when we run a little short on funds, we start looking where we should have been placing our trust all along.

When people we love let us down, it’s easy to realize that we may have misplaced our priorities and that we’ve focused our love on another person and put that relationship before our relationship with God. (I’m not saying that we shouldn’t love others, but God should come first.)

Or how about when things seem to take a turn down a road we didn’t expect to have

I’m hoping that I can do better at keeping them where they belong...hopefully a lot better than I do at keeping my wire cutters, hoof picks and stall forks in their places. How about you? Stakes from Keeneland Race Course will be followed by a one-hour broadcast on the NBC Sports Network featuring the Arkansas Derby. The NBC telecast will air from 4:30 – 6 p.m. ET; the NBC Sports Network telecast will air from 6 – 7 p.m. ET.

Series Features Six Key Races and the Road to the Kentucky Derby Preview Show on Four Consecutive Weekends Beginning Saturday, March 23

All six races fall into the highest tier on Churchill Downs’ new points system to determine starters for the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 4, on NBC. The points system features 36 stakes races overall and 17 marquee events for 3-year-old Thoroughbreds that comprise a 10-week run up to the first Saturday in May.

NEW YORK – February 12, 2013 – The Jockey Club, in collaboration with the NBC Sports Group and six racetracks, will provide live coverage of six major prep races for the 2013 Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands, as well as a 30-minute special previewing the Triple Crown season during the last two Saturdays in March and the first two Saturdays in April, it was announced today. The Road to the Kentucky Derby series starts with a 30-minute special previewing the televised races and the Triple Crown season. The special will air on NBC Sports Network on Saturday, March 23, from 6 – 6:30 p.m. ET. The racing telecasts kick off Saturday, March 30, with the Besilu Florida Derby from Gulfstream Park and the Louisiana Derby from Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots on NBC Sports Network from 6 – 7 p.m. ET. The Wood Memorial from Aqueduct Racetrack and the Santa Anita Derby from Santa Anita Park will air on NBC Sports Network on Saturday, April 6, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. ET. Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation Launches 5th Annual “Haydrive” Saratoga Springs, NY (February 13, 2013) - The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF) announces its 5th Annual Haydrive campaign to fund hay costs for its 950 retired racehorses. Because of record drought conditions and a resulting national hay shortage, TRF expects its hay budget to increase by 50% over last year. The goal for this year’s Haydrive is to raise $144,000 by May 31, 2013. Providing ample, high quality forage is the key to keeping pasture-kept retired racehorses warm and healthy through winter. Hay is TRF’s single largest feed-related expense, with an average TRF horse eating 22 pounds of it daily. “Our biggest farm cares for 200 Thoroughbreds and has been forced to purchase hay from up to 700 miles away,” explains TRF Herd Manager Sara Davenport. “Transportation costs for hay are continuing to rise as winter progresses, making this campaign especially crucial.” The Haydrive is the perfect opportunity for horse lovers and racing fans who want to support racehorse retirement efforts. “Whether a donor can contribute enough for a single bale or a wagonload, 100% of it is literally going straight into the horses’ mouths,” notes the TRF’s Annual Fund Director, Lisa Craig. “Just $10 will buy a bale and feed one of our horses for two or three days, so there’s no such thing as a contribution that’s ‘too small.’” To learn more or make a donation, visit www.trfinc.org/haydrive or call (518) 226-0028. There’s Beauty in Everything....

When John Clemans sent us his email with the subject line “something a little different” we had to take a look. Below are pictures of what John calls his “Zen -poop garden.” After taking a job cleaning a stables in Idaho, John loved being around the horses, but felt discouraged from the never ending task that comes with keeping a stable clean. While cleaning stalls one day, he prayed and asked God to take the feeling of discouragement away. Later that day an idea came to him that he could make different designs with the “leftovers.” It takes John from two to four weeks to complete a project. Once it is complete, John takes a photo and then it is pushed up into the ever growing manure pile and he starts all over again with something new. That just goes to show you that if you look hard enough, you can find beauty in everything.

We had a great response for last month’s Mystery of the Month. Several people knew this family! Maybe because of them being former Hoosiers (or did you know that?) - but most likely from all of their success in the hores industry. Our Mystery family would be none other than the Burgers. This photo was taken in 1986 at the AQHA World Show. The horse in this picture is “Show Um The Gold.” Mary won the AQHA World Championship barrel racing in 1985 & 1986 on this horse. With Show Um the Gold are Mary, Joey (age 7) and Kerry. (Not pictured is their son Todd.) Mary and Kerry have had lots of great success with their horses over the years. Mary was the AQHA World Champion in Barrels and Poles in 1974. More recently, most of you will remember watching Mary compete at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, NV. She competed on a horse called Rare Fred (then owned by Ron Martin.) That duo competed at three Nationals Finals. The years were 2006, 2008 & 2009. Lucky Scott knew our family and was the first to contact us with the correct information. Lucky chose to take a Free Subscription as his prize. Congrats, Lucky!
