Message from Terri Mauldin ... The first few months of 2014 have been busy for the Down Syndrome Association of South Texas! We have attended several resource fairs to get our information into the hands of families needing support and information. We have held several events for the families, including a formal dance for the adults and an Easter egg hunt for the Playgroup and Kid Connection participants. On March 20th, the DSASTX held its first HUGS Gala at the beautiful JW Marriott Resort and Spa to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. Please see the full article on page 7. We celebrated World Down Syndrome Day again on March 21st with the introduction of the new reusable grocery bag at HEB stores. This bag features artwork by two little boys with Down syndrome, Eugenio de la Garza and Cullen Turner, both 2 years old. The bags are available at select HEB stores around the area and a portion of the proceeds will be given to the DSASTX! Thank you, HEB!
The DSASTX is planning a very busy summer and fall! We have the Annual Spring Picnic at Landa Park on Sunday, May 18th; DSASTX Day at Splashtown on Terri Mauldin Saturday, August 16th; and the Buddy Walk on Saturday, September 27th at Heroes Stadium. If you have a company or organization that is interested in sponsorship opportunities for the Buddy Walk, please contact me. Please remember that we ask everyone to call or email the DSASTX office if you plan to attend an event so that we can be as efficient as possible when buying refreshments and supplies for all our events.
