Experience a Texas Gem

Beaumont, Texas

eaumont was put on the map with Spindletop and is known for its oil history and heritage. But with a little bit of Cajun and a whole lot of Texas spirit, Beaumont is a city you must experience to understand why locals are just so dang proud to live here. Think gorgeous southern homes & friendly Texans, lush greenery & cool flowing waters, famous country musicians & food festivals, shopping & fine dining. This is Texas like nowhere else. History and Heritage The Lucas Gusher discovered in Beaumont in 1901 is affectionately called “Spindletop,” and prompted an oil boom in America unlike any the country had ever seen before. Overnight, thousands of sightseers, fortune seekers, and “boomers” poured into Beaumont as news of the discovery spread. Flowing at nearly 100,000 barrels a day, the oil discovery ushered in the industrial revolution giving rise to major petroleum companies, many of which are still in business today. Beaumont’s heritage is also visible in our beautifully renovated and historic downtown areas. Museums, historic homes, theatres, trendy restaurants and businesses reside in many of the beautiful historic buildings built with the oil money from Spindletop. New brick paved sidewalks, landscaping and charming street lamps are recent adornments to the downtown area. Music, Art and Culture Many famous musicians have come from Beaumont and Southeast Texas. Some notables are Tracy Byrd and Mark Chesnutt. Other legends include: Janis Joplin, George Jones, The Big Bopper and Blind Willie Johnson. 8

Beaumont has numerous famous artisans, such as Robert Rauschenberg and Keith Carter. In addition, our thriving arts community includes an array of art galleries and studios as well as performing arts venues and organizations. Some of these are the Symphony of Southeast Texas, Beaumont Civic Ballet, Opera Beaumont, The Art Museum of Southeast Texas, Julie Rogers and Jefferson Theatres and others. We’re also known as the “Museum Capital of Texas”. With 19 museums, we have more museums per capita than any other city in the State of Texas… and that’s big! Food and Festivals Beaumont is on the border of Louisiana and boasts some of the best food! With a mix of both Texas & Cajun cultures, we offer visitors delicious crawfish dishes, ettouffe, boudain, jambalaya, gumbo and some of the best BBQ in the state! Beaumont is also known for its fairs and festivals. From the YMBL South Texas State Fair, to Dogtober Fest, to the variety of food festivals hosted each year, there’s always something happening for out-oftowners to enjoy. Nature and Outdoors With such a rich oil history, many are surprised at the abundance of nature in southeast Texas. Beaumont is on the border of the Gulf of Mexico and to our north is the lush Big Thicket National Preserve which is a haven for birders, canoe enthusiasts, hikers and eco-tourists, campers and fisherman. The Neches River also flows through downtown Beaumont where visitors can take guided boat rides aboard the Cardinal Riverboat. Beaumont really is Texas like no where else. Team Cocktail

Escape to Sin City

by: Lyndsey Huggins

o say we love Las Vegas would be an understatement. With Vegas being an easy (& cheap) place to travel to, it’s made it our #1 travel destination to meet up with family & friends. Between great shows, restaurants, hotels, pools & bars, you can always find something to see, do or drink. We thought the best way to share our many Las Vegas experiences with you guys would be to give you the best budget friendly, moderate & splurge hotels to help you decide how you want to do Vegas. Splurge - Wynn/Encore The past few years we have stayed at the Wynn & Encore during our annual July trip to Vegas. The secret to staying here without splurging too much is by booking the hotel in a package with your flight through your airline. If you live in a smaller market we have found success booking the Wynn at unbelievably low rates through Allegiant Air’s vacation packages. It’s the best of both worlds...you get a 5 star resort at a 3 star price! Trust us it is nothing short of a 5 star resort. From the luxurious rooms, to the amazing pool, to the extremely attentive staff, to the restaurants...everything is top notch. We highly suggest if you’re going to splurge, spend a few extra bucks (around $400) to get a table in the water at the European pool. You can feel like a celebrity for an afternoon, and stay in the water while enjoying some refreshing cocktails! Team Cocktail Approved! SW Steakhouse - Whenever we go to Las Vegas, whether we stay at the Wynn or not, we always try to make it over to SW Steakhouse. It gets its name from

the initials of the owner of the Wynn & Encore, Steve Wynn. Does someone have a big ego? Well he can because this steakhouse ranks as our #1 in Las Vegas! We recommend ordering the Bone-on Filet (if available), the Maine Lobster Mac & Cheese on the side and a martini. Mmmm...my mouth is watering. Moderate - Mandalay Bay Ahhh...Mandalay Bay. This is one of our favorite places to stay during the summer. It has an amazing pool with a sand beach, lazy river, and a huge wave pool. For a moderate price you are getting an oversize room (550 square feet) and all the great amenities you would expect from an awesome resort. Great restaurants, entertainment, and gaming area. Make sure to stop by the Red Square for a martini and an order of Siberian nachos before you head out for the night! Budget Friendly - Luxor If you are looking for a budget friendly hotel with a great casino floor than this is the place for you. Typical rates run around $60/night for their standard pyramid rooms. Their rooms aren’t anything special, so as long as you know this coming in you will have a great time. Plus it’s Vegas are you really going to be in your hotel room that much anyway? I didn’t think so! It also has a great location as it is attached to Mandalay Bay, so you can walk right to it without ever going out into the blistering Las Vegas heat! No matter what hotel/resort you choose Vegas is always a good time. As we like to say, if you can’t have fun in Vegas it’s your own damn fault! So roll the dice, take a trip to Vegas, and don’t forget...put it all on red and let it roll! Party with us! www.teamcocktail.com www.facebook.com/teamcocktail www.twitter.com/teamcocktail www.youtube.com/teamcocktail www.thehotelguide.com
