Advise your customers to switch over to paysafecard now! Tons of benefits for paysafecard customers: • • • •
Customers can pay online as easily as using cash. Any remaining credit remains valid and can be used later. Multiple PINs can be combined when paying. Customers can pay at thousands of providers from the worlds of online games, music, film, entertainment and so much more.
www.paysafecard.com/ukash-switch-info | success@paysafecard.com Please remember: Ukash vouchers will only be available for purchase until 31.08.2015 and may only be used until 31.10.2015.
Don’t lose your Ukash customers! As Ukash becomes paysafecard, switching couldn’t be easier. More and more customers in Australia and across the world are turning to prepaid vouchers which can be used for purchases on the internet. Paying for an online game or other services and products, like music and films, couldn’t be easier and more secure. All that a customer needs to pay online, is the unique PIN that comes with each voucher. One of the most popular products in this market, Ukash, will shortly be discontinued. What initially might look like bad news for shops and customers alike, is actually good news as they can benefit from an even better alternative with paysafecard. paysafecard vouchers can be generated quickly at all epay terminals. Advising customers to switch over to paysafecard will not only help shop-owners to hold on to their existing customers, but will also increase the customer satisfaction - as well as revenues thanks to a higher demand. The takeover of Ukash by Skrill Group, the company that owns paysafecard, means that former Ukash customers will not only benefit from the global presence and acceptance of paysafecard, the market leader in Europe and beyond, but also from its continuing quest for new, innovative solutions, and the diversity of additional services. paysafecard vouchers are very similar to Ukash in terms of features and functionality, but the company paysafecard has more to offer, including a state-ofthe-art app, a 24/7 customer service in a wide range of languages, a unique online account called “my paysafecard” and much more. With paysafecard being fully customised for mobile devices, paysafecard is more popular than ever before.
Now that the takeover has been finalised, Ukash vouchers will soon be unavailable and only paysafecard will be offered. This is the case in all markets where paysafecard is already available - like Australia and New Zealand - and may also include some new markets that are currently under evaluation. Many Australian consumers are actually already familiar with the product paysafecard which was introduced to the Australian market in 2013. In New Zealand, paysafecard was launched in 2015. paysafecard allows customers to pay online quickly - and just as simply, safely and fast as if with cash. The award-winning company behind the product, paysafecard.com Wertkarten GmbH, was the first issuer of a prepaid product for the internet in Europe when it introduced the voucher in Germany and Austria in 2000. Over the years, the product paysafecard has become a huge international success, with 40 countries in which consumers can now purchase digital goods online without needing a bank account or credit card. paysafecard works in a similar way to mobile prepaid cards. Customers can purchase their paysafecard vouchers in denominations of 10, 20, 50 and 100 AUD (or similar denominations in other currencies) from one of 480,000 physical retail outlets worldwide. To make a payment, the user simply selects paysafecard as the payment option at one of paysafecard´s official partner websites before entering the unique 16 digit PIN that comes with each paysafecard voucher. Any remaining credit remains valid and can be used later, and multiple PINs can be combined for a single payment.

SOFTWARE SPOTLIGHT
DRIVING RANGE epay’s range of software products can really drive sales for electronics retailers.
Z
ero inventory costs. Immediate benefits. Shelf-space minimisation. Sound good? These are just some of the advantages epay’s range of software products can deliver your business. And with several of the world’s leading software brands all available with epay, you can deliver exactly what the consumer wants, when they want it. One of our retailers, who we feature on page 12 in this issue, CISITECH COMPUTERS Director
Johnny Putrus, is glad he started selling the epay software range over a year ago. “It cost nothing to get started. There was no contract and epay provided a free merchandised stand. There is a good margin to be had on these products,” Putrus said. “In the past, we would run out of the boxed software products. But with the epay range, we never run out. The sales returns are great, it’s good for our cash flow and we only pay for the product after we sell the item.”
Only pay for what you sell when you sell it TREND MICRO “Cash flow becomes positive as retailers only pay for the product once they sell it, and shrinkage becomes a thing of the past as the inactive cards have a zero dollar cost,” Trend Micro’s National Retail Manager David Sexton said. “The elimination of the installation disc means customers are instead directed to a download link that ensures they are always installing the most recent version. This is especially relevant with the launch of a new operating system, where the version on the disc may not be compatible with the new operating system.” HOT PRODUCT – MAXIMUM SECURITY Trend Micro’s most comprehensive multi-device protection, it provides safety against viruses, cybercriminals, identity theft and other online threats. With Maximum Security customers can shop, bank, browse and share safely online.

MICROSOFT OFFICE “With Microsoft Office available for purchase as a POSA card and as an Electronic Download, the customer can easily activate Office on any device, with the added benefit for the retailer to increase cash flow and save on the associated inventory costs,” Microsoft Office Category Manager Celeste McCormick. “POSA takes less shelf space, delivering a higher revenue return per square metre, and there is no shrinkage. Many software companies have made the move to POSA already for these clear benefits.” HOT PRODUCT – OFFICE 365 HOME Office 365 Home comes with five licences and is fully installed with Office applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote. It also comes with 1TB of OneDrive storage, enabling customers to store, for example, over 130,000 songs.

C
ISITECH COMPUTERS in Sydney’s west started selling epay software products over a year ago. The company’s Director Johnny Putrus explained to us the benefits he has experienced since. Why did you start selling epay software products? It cost nothing to get started. There was no contract and epay provided a merchandised stand. There is also a good margin to be had on these products. What epay software products do you sell? Microsoft Office, Windows 8 applications, the Adobe range, as well as Trend Micro and Kaspersky. We also offer various Telco products – like mobile and internet top-ups – as well as gaming gift cards and international calling cards. How has the epay software range benefitted your store? Because the software products are available to purchase via a small gift card or as a point of sale transaction, we only need to dedicate minimal shelf space to them. We can therefore offer the full range of a certain product, like the Microsoft Office suite of products. In the past, we would run out of the boxed software products. But with the epay range, we never run out. The sales returns are great, it’s good for our cash flow and
we also only have to pay for the product after we actually sell the item. How do you let people know you provide these products? We make an effort to display them in prominent places in the store. Our team are also well trained in the epay software products and how they can benefit computer users. What type of people purchase software products and what are the products that are most popular? Home and business users are our most common customers for these products. The anti-virus products (Trend Micro and Kaspersky) and Microsoft Office receive excellent sales. The mobile and internet recharge cards, as well as PlayStation and Xbox cards, all sell well. What is the POS experience like in relation to these software products? It’s very straightforward. The POS process is based on webPOS, an online selling portal, so there’s no need for POS equipment, other than a computer, printer and the internet. What would you say to an electronics retailer thinking about selling the epay range of software products? epay provides a variety of products, there are no contracts with webPOS, they deliver excellent customer service and great technical support when you need it. ep ay AUGUST 2015

TELCO SPOTLIGHT
MEETING DEMAND We speak to a range of Australia’s top Telco providers about smartphone users’ insatiable thirst for data and how they are shaping their products to suit this trend.
A
ll the ingredients are in place to see the rate of mobile data use in Australia continue to rise. Smartphones are not only becoming smarter, but they are more widely available and cheaper as well, allowing more users to get on board. The sites that require lots of data – like streaming websites such as Spotify or You Tube – only seem to be getting more popular while the ever-improving 4G Network facilitates faster and faster access. To deliver just what the consumer wants, the major Telcos – all available with epay – are shaping their products to suit these data-needy users. And Vodafone doesn’t see that thirst being quenched in a hurry. Continues on page 16
“With streaming more enjoyable than ever due to faster networks and bigger handset screens, it’s easy to see why data inclusions are key for many people,” amaysim Sales Director Melissa Gray 14
ep ay AUGUST 2015
TIPS FOR RETAILERS
It’s all about keeping it simple, so make sure the benefits to the consumer are clear. Most importantly explain to customers why Vodafone suits their needs.
Placement of POS displays in high traffic areas – like at the front of your store – will generate awareness of the product and increase the likelihood of purchase.
It’s about getting the basics right. For example, knowing what our products are, so you can educate the consumer, is vital, as is being aware of what else is on the market.

TELCO SPOTLIGHT “With over two-thirds of Australians now using smartphones, we are seeing an explosion in data usage and there is no sign of it slowing down anytime soon,” Vodafone’s General Manager Prepay & SIM Only Mehul Dave said. “We want customers to keep using their phones confidently by including heaps of data on our cap recharges and giving them access to apps like My Vodafone to keep track of their usage. “Over the past year, we have seen tremendous growth in content, in particular with streaming services. From a customer’s perspective, these services are only as good as the mobile network they are using them on and no one wants to spend their commute waiting for a video to load. Vodafone has invested in our network to make sure it is built for streaming, downloading and surfing.” As Optus’ 4G network has expanded, so too has Australia’s thirst for data. “Mobile network and data access on the go are becoming increasingly important to Australian consumers and Optus understands this,” an Optus spokesperson said. “Optus covers 98.5 percent of the Aussie population with 3G, and the 4G network is expanding all the time. Because of that, Optus is launching more 4G smart phones into the prepaid range that make 4G handsets affordable. These handsets include the ZTE FIT Smart 4G ($99), Samsung Galaxy Core Prime ($189) and Microsoft Lumia 640 ($179).” amaysim said it had seen the data usage trend coming and adjusted its business model to suit. “According to recent research by leading industry analyst Telsyte, smartphone penetration across mobile service providers has reached critical mass, with over 80% of mobile users now using a smartphone,” amaysim Sales Director Melissa Gray said. “With streaming more enjoyable than ever due to faster networks and bigger handset screens, it’s easy to see why data inclusions are key for many people considering their mobile plan purchase. “With generous voice and text inclusions now considered a given in any half-decent mobile plan, amaysim has shifted our focus to providing the best data experience to mobileobsessed Aussies.” 16

RETAIL TIPS
SELL SMART
It can be hard to always attract new customers as a way to increase sales. Therefore, retailers need to find ways to offer more things to their loyal or regular customers.
“W
ould you like fries with that?” It’s the simplest of questions made famous in the hamburger business, but at its heart is a lesson that all businesses can learn and benefit from. In the quest to maximise your sales, have you considered offering more things to the people that already frequent your store? Or are you already stocking a range of products but aren’t making your regular customers aware of that fact? You need to start using the “would you like fries with that?” question to work for you. Consumers get in the habit of visiting certain stores for certain things. For
Petrol and Convenience You have a steady stream of people coming to your store to buy basic products, be it petrol for their cars or a loaf of bread. Start getting in the habit of communicating with these regular customers about what other products they may want or didn’t realise you stocked. epay’s online cash products, like VPAY Visa and paysafecard, or the gifting range, JB Hi-Fi for example, can be the perfect match for your customers.
example, they associate a petrol station with buying petrol and a place to get a quick snack. Or, they match a newsagent with the daily paper and milk in the morning. But these people could easily be wanting more or may think your store isn’t the place they will find a particular product. Ask yourself – would some of your regular customers become accustomed to purchasing other products in your store if they were prompted to do so – either by asking them directly or by merchandising at the point of sale? Not everyone will be swayed, but this technique could account for an increase in your sales returns.
Newsagents Often your customers will be very loyal, choosing to come to your store on a daily basis to buy their newspaper. Because of this, you probably have a good relationship with them and can start offering them new products from time to time. Perhaps they have a niece or nephew with a birthday coming up? epay’s range of gaming products, like Xbox One and PlayStation, could make the perfect gift. The gift card range are also a great fit.
Electrical Your customers will often be purchasing products that are complemented perfectly by epay’s range of software products. For example, someone purchasing a new laptop may need to access a certain program that isn’t already installed on the item. Talk to your customers at the time of purchase about what they need their laptop to do for them. The software products from Microsoft, Adobe or Trend Micro, for example, could be just the thing they need.

CHRISTMAS PLANNING

CHRISTMAS PLANNING
THE TILLS ARE RINGING Make sure you’re advertising loud and clear that you’re an epay retailer and capitalise on the Christmas gift buying season that’s just around the corner.
E
pay products are the perfect gifts at Christmas, whether shoppers want to give a substantial present or a stocking filler. For example, make sure you are well stocked leading up to Christmas with the likes of iTunes and Spotify cards as these are an ideal gift solution for just about everyone. They can even be sent in a hurry to beat the busy postal service at this time of year. Buyers can simply text the iTunes or Spotify card pin number to their loved one, and that person will have instant access to their present. Yet, while epay products may be a fantastic option during the gift giving season, you still need to capture a shopper’s attention. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION Capitalise on people’s impulsive shopping tendencies at Christmas by advertising your epay products front and centre in your store via our range of merchandised stands and POS material. A shopper may have come into your store to buy something completely unrelated, but with an epay merchandised stand near your point of sale, they may be tempted to get that last minute gift for a family member.
ORDER YOUR POS MATERIAL TODAY
FRONT WINDOW Capture the attention of your regular customers, as well as all those passers-by, with epay’s range of shop front POS material like window decals and flags. This is the perfect way to let people know that you are an epay retailer.
All your prepaid needs

FRONT OF STORE Make sure you have one of epay’s merchandised stands or clip strips somewhere prominent in your store. Near other popular items or in a high foot traffic location, like the front of your shop, are great options for these displays. COUNTER-TOP Capitalise on the last-minute nature of Christmas gift buying by placing one of epay’s counter spinner stands near your POS equipment. Buyers are often impulsive while waiting to be served and the epay products may just inspire people to buy for that someone special.

Pay-Per-View (PPV) UFC events now rival boxing’s big title fights and they’re watched by a global audience on a monthly basis. The spread of UFC has been so meteoric that Australia will host its first PPV event in Melbourne in November. For Xbox One users and Xbox Live members, they can now order and watch the November event live via the UFC on Xbox One app. The app opens up an online destination
for fans, where they can view live events as well as archive footage and documentaries. Previously, UFC fans have needed a Foxtel subscription or have had to attend a licensed venue to view events. But with live PPV and other events available on Xbox One, people can follow their passion from the comfort of their own home. As fans prepare for Melbourne’s huge event in November, make your customers aware that epay’s Xbox gift cards or Xbox Live Gold Membership cards will be the ticket to the best seats in the house.

RETAILER PROFILE
SPOT LIGHT… Maher Magableh – Chief Executive Officer Ezymart Australia What has been the most significant change in retailing since you have been involved? The fact customers are now more health conscious. Even younger consumers are trending toward more health-conscious eating. We had to change our product offering to keep up with the change. This means more fresh, natural, organic and healthy products are added to our product list every day. Why is 24-hour convenience retailing important to your business? Being available 24-hours is becoming crucial to our business due to the increased need for our service during the later hours. We need to be there for tourists, shift workers, students or anyone who needs our service late at night or during the early hours of the morning. What are the epay products that prove most successful and how do they benefit your store? Mobile phone recharge and the Opal card top-up. Before epay, we had to stock a large number of phone cards and bus tickets. This meant freezing a large amount of cash plus the added risk of keeping all these cards and tickets in the shop. What are the benefits of supplying Opal card top-ups? Yes and it’s a great way to significantly increase the number of customers entering our shops. Our industry is based on impulse sales and having this influx of Opal card customers leads to increase in impulse sales of other products. How do you maximise the impact of the epay products? We had to redesign our merchandised set-up to maximise the impulse sales from the service counter. Also, we’ve installed epay merchandised stands to increase the sales of other epay products, such as iTunes cards, Xbox Live and many more.

EPAY NEWS
TERMINAL NEWS
epay is constantly improving its technology and providing advice to its many customers. Read on and stay ahead of the curve.
FRAUD ALERT A s a retail owner you should always keep your eye out for any suspicious activity – and train all staff to do the same. Recently released Visa statistics showed 40,000 small and medium-sized businesses in Australia and New Zealand were considered the highest risk for victims of fraud. Such businesses were large enough to process about 20,000 eCommerce transactions each year, but too small to adequately protect their systems – which meant that criminals could spy on customers’ credit card details. So stay safe by staying smart! The National Australia Bank (NAB), for example, in their advice to merchants titled Credit Card Fraud Protection, lists five high risk transactions to be wary of as they may indicate that the customer is attempting fraud. These are: • Card not present • Card number is manually keyed in • No authorisation obtained • Card is not swiped through EFTPOS terminal • Fall-back transactions (a transaction processed when the terminal is offline) Credit cards need to be kept in a secure place, ATMs should be checked for any unusual attachments, personal details including PIN numbers should be protected, financial statements should be checked continuously, and chip and pin security should be implemented on credit cards when possible. Being wary of possible fraud is the best defence against your business becoming a victim. To combat fraudulent behaviour always ensure that you and all the staff in your store follow these steps: • Never provide your five-digit sales code to anyone or let them operate your terminal alone
30
ep ay AUGUST 2015
• epay will never conduct a live transaction in your store (or ask you to do so in person or over the phone). If you do get asked, report it immediately to epay customer service on 1300 301 408 • Ensure that the customer has paid in full before processing the payment • Do not give vouchers to the customer until you are satisfied that the full valid payment has been received • NEVER give out voucher numbers over the phone, even if they claim to be from epay • If you suspect fraud, please call the epay customer service team on 1300 301 408 and report it to the police immediately We recommend for cash collection products (including Visa) that you only accept cash as payment. This will limit the potential for credit card fraud. If you fall prey to fraud, please call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and epay Customer Service. For more information on fraud, visit www.scamwatch.gov.au. Here you’ll find
everything you need to know regarding the most common fraudulent behaviour and scams, as well as details regarding the Australasian Consumer Fraud Taskforce, made up of 22 government regulatory agencies and departments with responsibility for consumer protection.
ASK YOURSELF Please pay close attention to these questions that have been added to terminals when processing a transaction. If you answer any of these questions unfavourably, you are likely to be experiencing a fraudrelated transaction. • Confirm the customer is in store? Yes/No • Confirm the customer has paid for the product? Yes/No • Is this voucher being printed in response to a telephone call? Yes/No
EPAY NEWS
TERMINALS • Does your store regularly sell over $1,500 in gross sales per week? • Does your site have internet connectivity? • Is the internet router located at the front counter near your epay machine? • Is there an available port on the back of your router? • Does your firewall allow outbound connectivity? If you answered YES to the above questions you may be able to upgrade your epay system. The new epay terminals don’t require an analogue phone line and operate using your store’s internet connection. If you’re interested in upgrading to an IP terminal today please contact us on devicemgt@ epayaust.com.au for more information.
NEED CLEAR REPORTING? To ensure that your sales are matching your reports, make sure that you regularly run reports through your epay terminal. Reports that are available through the terminal include: Shift Totals – If your store runs across multiple shifts, you can produce reports for each shift by selecting this option. Ensure your shift is closed off by selecting End Shift. Day Totals – If you need a running report of sales since the
last report was closed off, the day totals report will run this option. It can also be printed throughout the day without closing it off. Operator Totals – To keep track of your individual operator totals, this report will produce everything, broken down by the operator that made the sales. If you want to incorporate KPIs or staff incentives, this is the perfect way to keep track of your operators. It is strongly recommended that only a supervisor or manager ever requests these reports.
