Welcome G
reetings everyone and I trust our latest edition of epay World magazine finds you all having a successful 2016 so far. Inside you’ll find what’s trending right now in the world of prepaid and which epay products will drive your sales even further at this time of year. Our software range will be especially popular for our electronics retailers in the coming months as consumers look to get all of their finances in order ahead of the end of the financial year. People will be looking to purchase epay’s software products to assist with their tax return or as a business expense that can be written off. From page 6, our four-page EOFY feature details what electronics retailers can do to maximise EOFY sales as well as some key epay products to promote in store. On page 16, we continue to focus on the EOFY, and we offer some great tips on how people can get the best possible return come June 30. Also inside this issue we highlight how epay has Mother’s Day covered this year with our comprehensive range of gift card products from the likes of Myer, David Jones and Westfield. See page 20 for what to spoil Mum with this year, while on page 22 we feature the latest gadgets that can be used in conjunction with the epay products available in your store.
“Our software range will be especially popular for our electronics retailers in the coming months as consumers look to get all of their finances in order ahead of the end of the financial year.” For our Sydney convenience retailers, it’s all good news in terms of the Opal travel card as it goes from strength to strength as the dominant public transport payment method. On page 18 we chat with the NSW Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance about how the Opal card is far superior to the old paper tickets. The success of the Opal card in recent years has definitely been enhanced by its relationship with epay and the broad range of independent retailers it has on its network. The retailer profile in this edition sees us catch up with Kristen Robb, Store Manager at Leading Edge Computers in Dubbo. Since adding the epay software category to his store, Kristen has been able to sell a larger range of software products with no financial risk and with no upfront costs. See page 26 for the full interview and an insight to how epay’s software products could work for you as well. Kind regards, Matt Blayney Country Manager

WHAT’S
HOT
These are the three big ticket items with consumers right now.
1. Trend Micro
The Trend Micro range of products enable people to work online with peace of mind and hence why, as we approach the end of the financial year, they are hot products for our software retailers. If you’re looking to work, socialise, browse or learn online, Trend Micro have the security products for you. They also have iOS and Android devices covered, safeguarding against lost devices and data as well as viruses, spyware, dangerous websites, malicious apps and more.

2. iTunes An iTunes gift card lets you shop at the iTunes Store – 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including music, movies, TV shows, apps, audiobooks and more. iTunes cards are available in denominations of 20, 30, 50 and 100 AUD. These have become so popular now that it is a given that retailers display them clearly in-store, in prominent places like on an epay merchandised stand near your point of sale or in high traffic areas.
3. Microsoft Office Featuring some of the most trusted and widely used software applications in the world, the Microsoft Office suite are always hot products. But at this time of year, when people are getting all of their software needs in order, they are extremely popular. Turn to page 6 to check out our end of financial year software cover feature which details different types of Microsoft Office POSA products on the market.

COVER FEATURE
With the financial year ending, now is the time for electronics retailers to benefit from epay’s range of software products as people look to get their finances in order.
W
ith time passing quicker than ever, people often find that the end of the financial year creeps up on them faster and faster. Because of this, the time and work involved in sorting one's finances can seem bigger than it really is. But epay’s range of software products have people’s needs for the EOFY covered. They take the hassle out of the process and our electronics retailers should be promoting them front and centre in their stores to bring their attention to shoppers. When someone is purchasing a new computer, phone or tablet, or they are simply shopping in your store, make sure you are investigating their needs and whether any of epay's software products could help them with the EOFY or any other of their software needs. Do they need to upgrade or renew their Microsoft Office suite? Will they require the type of protection that Trend Micro offers via their online security products when they are working online? Or do they need the latest MYOB products, which are perfect for the EOFY, to ensure all the day-to-day running of their businesses are in order?
It is also a great idea to order one of epay’s merchandised stands – to display the software range either on your shop floor, in high foot traffic areas, or at the point of sale via our counter-top spinner stands. These will easily identify your store as stockists of these great products and may just inspire a lastminute purchase. If you haven’t already, talk to our customer service team about getting on board with our software products, or if you already stock them, why not try an all-new product to test the market. One of the key aspects of our products is that you only pay for what you sell, when you sell it. Therefore you don’t have to worry about loss of revenue if a product doesn’t prove popular with consumers. They also take up minimal space, as opposed to boxed, physical versions of software products, so they can be trialled in-store without disruption. To find out more about our software range and how it can work for you, or to trial new software products in your store, contact our customer service team today on 1300 301 408.
Turn over to check out the Trend Micro and Microsoft Office software products that will be useful items as people get their finances in order e p a y M AY 2 016

COVER FEATURE
NOW TRENDING We chat with David Sexton, Trend Micro’s Retail Channel Manager, about why their products are so useful at this time of year and how retailers can benefit.
Why are Trend Micro products useful at this time of year as people sort out their end of financial year requirements? Trend Micro products allow users to do great things online safely and are designed to help protect you when doing your day-to-day online activities. With Trend Micro you can: • Socialise online, knowing your privacy is better protected on social networks • Browse online with protection against dangerous websites and malware • Work online with the peace of mind that your business and data are protected • Learn online knowing you’re protected from online threats How is Trend Micro solving issues around security for iOS and Android devices such as tablets and phones? Trend Micro Mobile Security provides data and privacy protection for your Android and iOS devices, safeguarding against lost devices and data, viruses, spyware, dangerous websites, malicious apps and identity theft on Facebook. What new and exciting innovations has Trend Micro made in the POSA product category? Trend Micro has introduced a new larger format POSA card that comes with a CD. The card is still a hang-sell, but now gives the customer the choice to install their software via disc or download. What are the keys to being a successful retailer of Trend Micro products? The feedback we have received from retailers is that having trained and knowledgeable staff on the sales floor has been the key to their success. This allows the staff to explain the real-world risks of being online and why it is important to protect all your devices. Why do you offer POSA products to consumers and what are the benefits of doing so? The major benefit is really to the retailer more than the customer. Zero-cost inventory and smaller packaging are major draw-cards to retailers. For the consumer, there is a bigger range on offer and the products are always in stock. What is the key benefit for Trend Micro having epay as a partner? Being able to offer a consignment model to our retailers, allowing them to be cash-flow positive when selling our products. 8

With Maximum Security 10 you can shop, bank, browse and share online safely. MOBILE SECURITY Whether you’re an iOS or Android device user, Trend Micro has the mobile security product for you. Protect your phone or tablet for a year against phishing and identity theft. This product blocks fraudulent websites, protects your privacy on Facebook and Twitter, lets you back up and transfer your contacts, locates a missing device and monitors your daily data usage.

TOP EOFY TIPS It’s that time of year again and to ensure you’re getting what you’re entitled to and the best possible return come June 30 there are a few simple things you can do at tax time. Take a look at our list of top tips to help navigate the end of financial year hassle free and to maximise your tax return.

Tip #3

Tip #5
Boost your super
Individuals and families on incomes above the Medicare levy surcharge (MLS) thresholds are liable to pay the MLS for any period during 2015–16 that they did not have private patient hospital cover. But this can be avoided if people take out the appropriate level of hospital cover with a private health insurance provider. If you need it, make sure you shop around and get the best cover for your needs. There are excellent health insurance comparison websites online to help with this process.
If you’ve got receipts and files lying all over the house, or in your car or office, now is the time to get all your tax-time documents in order to ensure you’re claiming for everything you are entitled to. That means making sure anything related to expenses, insurances and investments are safely filed away ready for when you undertake your tax return. It’s also a good idea to ask the experts at this time of year. There’s a reason three-quarters of Australians use a tax accountant every year – they know the system better than the rest of us. If you’ve had a straight-forward return, you might want to go for the DIY option, but most people could benefit from the help of an expert.
A gift to those in need is not only a really positive thing to do as a business or as an individual, but it will also help reduce your taxable income. So before June 30, think about giving to a charity and you could even consider setting up regular payments to claim for next year’s tax return. For a list of great charities to get involved with, visit the Government’s Australian Charities and Not for Profits website at acnc.gov.au.
It may be time to update certain things in your work environment to be eligible for extra deductions come tax time. Make sure you actually need the item and that it’s related to your profession to be able to claim a tax deduction. Check the Australian Taxation Office website for more details.
If you’ve got any spare cash, extra savings or a bonus coming up, think about contributing extra into your super. You can sacrifice up to $30,000 of your before tax income into super which will only be taxed at 15 per cent. You can also contribute up to $180,000 of your after-tax income as well and you won’t get hit by any further taxes. And even though there’s not long left, it’s not too late. If you can spare the cash you could contribute some or even all of your June pay to super.

ith most paper travel tickets now no longer sold, Opal is the first choice of public transport travellers in Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong and surrounding regions. In fact there are now more than six and a half million cards in use – keeping epay retailers busy across the NSW Opal network. Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance explains why the Opal card is so popular. "Opal is simple and convenient to use and has many advantages over the oldstyle paper tickets, including daily and weekly fare caps, free travel after eight paid journeys each week, and 30 per cent discount off-peak train fares.” It’s these features, plus lower single fares, that make it so easy for all public transport customers to benefit, no matter how often they travel. Most paper tickets went out of circulation on New Year’s Day this year, and the only ones still in use across the NSW Opal network are single Adult and Concession singles and returns. This means Pensioner Excursion Tickets, TravelTens and MyMulti Weekly paper tickets are no longer available across the transport network. The success of the Opal card in recent years has definitely been enhanced by its relationship with epay and the broad range of independent retailers it has in its network. Independent retailers have the ability to reach a wide demographic of people and, traditionally, they are open for longer hours. There are now over 2,000 epay retailers who are official Opal sites, where

RETAILER PROFILE
SPOT LIGHT... Kristen Robb – Store Manager Leading Edge Computers Dubbo and Orange
How long have you been stocking epay product and why did you start? For the last seven years, and we started selling through epay to get access to pre-paid credit for telecommunication companies and as another source of revenue. Which epay products do you stock? The main products we sell are: phone and internet prepaid credit, Apple iTunes gift cards, Microsoft Office, Trend Micro Security, Adobe Software, MYOB and Xbox Live. How have these benefitted your store? We don’t have to purchase the stock up front and therefore we effectively buy the stock as we sell it. This allows us to hold a lot more products and to also try out new products that we may not have stocked if we had to purchase them up front. We also never run out of stock. This has brought in additional revenue streams that we would not have had before dealing with epay. How do the epay merchandised stands benefit your business? The stands that epay provide are perfect at getting the cards in front of the customer and letting them know what products are available. We have the large floor stand on the sales floor and we have the smaller counter stand on our sales counter to capture those impulse purchases. How else do you let people know you stock these products? We use custom POS signage for our demo stock, that outlines the products available. We also bundle Microsoft Office POSA cards with every
computer we sell. We use Facebook and Twitter to let our customers know about these products as well. What type of people purchase your epay products and what are the products that are most popular? We have a large variety of clients that purchase epay products, from home-users up to small and medium-sized businesses. Our best-selling epay products would be the Microsoft Office range, as we proactively sell this with every new computer sold. Also iTunes and prepaid services are selling very well. What is the POS experience like in relation to these products? Selling products through epay is very simple. The customer chooses the card, we swipe it through the epay terminal to activate it, we get payment, and that’s it. Since we have a large selection of epay cards on display, it also gives the customer the impression of a fully-stocked business, which gives them more confidence in making that purchase. What would you say to a retailer thinking about selling the epay range of products? I highly recommend selling epay products. It has allowed us to extend the range of products we sell and also increase the stock levels on display with no financial risk. The sales process could not be easier and if you are not using epay you really need to call them and get on board. Or don’t sign up, and send all your customers to us!

EPAY NEWS
TERMINAL NEWS
epay is constantly improving its technology and providing advice to its many customers. Read on and stay ahead of the curve.
FRAUD ALERT A s a retail owner you should always keep your eye out for any suspicious activity – and train all staff to do the same. Recently released Visa statistics showed 40,000 small and medium-sized businesses in Australia and New Zealand were considered the highest risk for victims of fraud. Such businesses were large enough to process about 20,000 eCommerce transactions each year, but too small to adequately protect their systems – which meant that criminals could spy on customers’ credit card details. So stay safe by staying smart! The National Australia Bank (NAB), for example, in their advice to merchants titled Credit Card Fraud Protection, lists five high risk transactions to be wary of as they may indicate that the customer is attempting fraud. These are: • Card not present • Card number is manually keyed in • No authorisation obtained • Card is not swiped through EFTPOS terminal • Fall-back transactions (a transaction processed when the terminal is offline) Credit cards need to be kept in a secure place, ATMs should be checked for any unusual attachments, personal details including PIN numbers should be protected, financial statements should be checked continuously, and chip and pin security should be implemented on credit cards when possible. Being wary of possible fraud is the best defence against your business becoming a victim. To combat fraudulent behaviour always ensure that you and all the staff in your store follow these steps: • Never provide your five-digit sales code to anyone or let them operate your terminal alone
30
e p a y M AY 2 016
• epay will never conduct a live transaction in your store (or ask you to do so in person or over the phone). If you do get asked, report it immediately to epay customer service on 1300 301 408 • Ensure that the customer has paid in full before processing the payment • Do not give vouchers to the customer until you are satisfied that the full valid payment has been received • NEVER give out voucher numbers over the phone, even if they claim to be from epay • If you suspect fraud, please call the epay customer service team on 1300 301 408 and report it to the police immediately We recommend for cash collection products (including Visa) that you only accept cash as payment. This will limit the potential for credit card fraud. If you fall prey to fraud, please call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and epay Customer Service. For more information on fraud, visit www.scamwatch.gov.au. Here you’ll find
everything you need to know regarding the most common fraudulent behaviour and scams, as well as details regarding the Australasian Consumer Fraud Taskforce, made up of 22 government regulatory agencies and departments with responsibility for consumer protection.
ASK YOURSELF Please pay close attention to these questions that have been added to terminals when processing a transaction. If you answer any of these questions unfavourably, you are likely to be experiencing a fraudrelated transaction. • Confirm the customer is in store? Yes/No • Confirm the customer has paid for the product? Yes/No • Is this voucher being printed in response to a telephone call? Yes/No
EPAY NEWS
TERMINALS • Does your store regularly sell over $1,500 in gross sales per week? • Does your site have internet connectivity? • Is the internet router located at the front counter near your epay machine? • Is there an available port on the back of your router? • Does your firewall allow outbound connectivity? If you answered YES to the above questions you may be able to upgrade your epay system. The new epay terminals don’t require an analogue phone line and operate using your store’s internet connection. If you’re interested in upgrading to an IP terminal today please contact us on devicemgt@ epayaust.com.au for more information.
NEED CLEAR REPORTING? To ensure that your sales are matching your reports, make sure that you regularly run reports through your epay terminal. Reports that are available through the terminal include: Shift Totals – If your store runs across multiple shifts, you can produce reports for each shift by selecting this option. Ensure your shift is closed off by selecting End Shift. Day Totals – If you need a running report of sales since the last report was closed off, the day
totals report will run this option. It can also be printed throughout the day without closing it off. Operator Totals – To keep track of your individual operator totals, this report will produce everything, broken down by the operator that made the sales. If you want to incorporate KPIs or staff incentives, this is the perfect way to keep track of your operators. It is strongly recommended that only a supervisor or manager ever requests these reports.
