welcome and congratulate all epay retailers on a stellar 2015 year to date. With the busiest time of year now upon us, it is critical we have placement in store of our gift card and gaming ranges to maximise potential sales opportunities. In the age we live in, we are all time poor as we maximise our day to achieve as much as we can. As a result of this, gift card and voucher purchases have become increasingly relevant. They allow the receiver to purchase items they actually want or need and they deliver a greater Christmas experience. To bolster that trend, we have worked hard this year to add new content and categories to the Gift Station range. We have welcomed the Blue Bubble Taxi gift card, Hair Health and Beauty, The Mall card, as well as many others. Like any business in the new age, expansion and innovation is a key driver to moving forward and epay is no stranger to embracing new adventures and categories. The team have worked hard this year and have a number of very strong partnerships and alliances for the epay retail family to take into future years. We have partnered with the Transport Agency (NZTA) to take over the collection of toll road payments for the three current toll roads in New Zealand – Northern Gateway, TEL and Takitimu Drive in Tauranga. You can now pay for fuel, drinks, food and tolls in the same transaction at selected North Island BP Connect, Caltex Fix and selected Bay of Plenty Z Energy stores. This is an exciting new category and one in which the NZTA and epay are excited to deliver to the public.

Warehouse Mobile is now available and exclusive to participating epay retailers across the country. We wish Warehouse Mobile well in the new venture. Also new this year is prepaid TV, with Lightbox joining the epay product family and now available in participating epay retailers across the country. As we move more and more to TV on demand and watching what we want, when we want and where we want, Lightbox will be a must-have for Kiwi consumers. Watch out in early 2016 as epay delivers digital content and launches a brand new Gift Station website, as well as a mobile app for gift card and product purchases. We are also heavily involved in tourism, and have exciting product launches in the loyalty and gift card space. What are the keys to being a successful retailer? You’ve got to be prepared to put the hours in as owning your own business is quite different to working for a chain. The choice of staff is also very important. We endeavour to find staff that have good knowledge of our stock and great customer service skills. What special marketing do you undertake that generates sales? We have found that social media marketing is a fantastic way to get our message out there in a far-reaching, but quite simple, way. A really good social media post, advertising a special deal for example, can have remarkable results. We also advertise in a more traditional way to capture different audiences, like a newspaper ad. Why are the Booksellers gift cards good to stock? They are the only gift cards we sell and

we have had great success with them. They are accepted at most bookshops throughout New Zealand and they make a useful and hassle-free present for a wide range of different people. Why do they make great gift options at Christmas? I think books as gifts have always been popular presents at Christmas time. The major benefit of giving a Booksellers gift card at Christmas is the recipient isn’t disappointed and they can choose their own book for themselves. How do you maximise the impact of these gift cards? We have a Booksellers merchandised stand stationed in a prominent place. We are also widely known as stockists of these cards. XBOX We chat with Tim Hunt – the Xbox Live Category Manager – about how retailers can make the most of their products and what will be hot this Christmas.

What are the keys to being a successful retailer of Xbox gift cards and Xbox Live Gold Membership? Our most successful retailers play to their strengths, and do one of two things really well, either: 1) Attach Xbox Live to gaming sales: Of our retailers who sell Xbox consoles and games, the most successful are able attach Xbox Live to help customers get the most out of the purchase they are already making. Xbox Live Gold helps customers get the most out of their new console by allowing them to play online with their friends, and Xbox Live gift cards help customers get the most out of their new game by giving them access to add-on content, season passes, and consumables. 2) Make it convenient: Of our retailers who do not sell Xbox consoles or Xbox games, the most successful are those that can offer our cards in the most convenient locations. We have millions of customers across the country that routinely pick up Xbox cards to top up their digital wallets, and top up their membership. Many retailers have had great success out of making this a more convenient experience, by ranging in all stores, in multiple locations in store, and with seasonal placements at the front of store in key gifting times. What changes in the gaming industry should retailers be aware of when selling your products? One big change we have observed in this generation of gaming is the shift to digital purchase. From addon content, to consumables, to full digital games, the amount of gaming content that is available for digital download has exploded, and we are seeing consumer spending beginning to reflect that. Warehouse Mobile is a prepay mobile offering, which was made available exclusively through The Warehouse (stores and online) in November this year. The Warehouse Group has partnered with 2degrees to create Warehouse Mobile, with 2degrees providing the technical expertise and infrastructure. The Warehouse aims to provide the simplest, most flexible and best value prepaid offering in the market, ultimately connecting Kiwis for less. Customers will also be able to top up in all the normal places, petrol stations, dairies etc. Why has the Warehouse decided to launch a Mobile Phone brand? Prepay is already part of our core business and we’re the number one channel in that part of the telco industry, plus we have fantastic footfall from which to grow our market share further. Globally retailers have been making this move for some time now (Tesco Mobile in the UK, Walmart and most recently Woolworths in Australia) and like them, we’re always looking for ways to offer great value to customers and promote customer choice and competition. We believe Warehouse Mobile is an opportunity to deliver flexibility, simplicity and more value for money to our customers. What part of the market is Warehouse Mobile seeking to penetrate? Our target customers are the two-thirds of New Zealanders who use prepay mobile services. We know they want value and flexibility from their mobile provider, and an easy to understand offering, so we think Warehouse Mobile will be a great option for them. What do you see as important in the success of retailing Telco products? Simplicity, flexibility and value for money is what we see as important in the success of retailing telco products, and so that’s exactly how we’ve created Warehouse Mobile. What exciting Warehouse Mobile innovations do you think are important for our readers to know about? We’ve done a great deal of research in creating 14
