Welcome I
t’s my pleasure to bring you the Spring 2018 edition of the epayWorld magazine as we look forward to the warmer weather arriving soon and commence the countdown to Christmas. In this issue, we continue our series of features that take a dive into epay’s key categories, with separate spotlights on the telecommunications industry and the rise in use of mobile wallets. In the first of the two features, we discover we’re a country that loves prepaid – with more than nine million Australians using pay-as-you-go phone deals. Using prepaid is a great way to control the spend of important loved ones and there’s no surprise it’s the most preferred when it comes to teenagers – with 65 per cent of 13-19-year-olds using a prepaid service. Go to page 8 for the full insight – where we also breakdown a few of the most popular prepaid services as well as detail how smartphone usage will continue to increase. In our second spotlight on the rise in mobile wallet use on page 20, we point to how this is due in part to more merchants offering the services while Chinese visitors, as well as locals, take up the technology in greater numbers. Over $12 billion was spent in Australia last year via a mobile wallet and that number is forecast to hit $20 billion by 2020. With Chinese tourists continuing to visit our shores in greater numbers than ever before – 1.25 million last year – and the likes of Alipay and WeChat Pay being such fundamental forms of payment in that country, you can see why the category is growing at an exponential rate.
“Over $12 billion was spent in Australia last year via a mobile wallet and that number is forecast to hit $20 billion by 2020.” With the key Chinese holiday periods arriving soon, where retail spending can often boom, now would be a great time to start accepting the alternative payments of Alipay and WeChat Pay in your store. Talk to one of our customer service team today to find out more. Also in this issue, we are proud to welcome Amazon gift cards to the epay stable of products. The US-based online retail giant now has an Australian presence at Amazon.com. au so it is the perfect time for your store to be offering these widely popular gift cards. On page 18 we show you how they will be the perfect year-round gift options for consumers and how they can benefit your store. Amazon gift cards can be used to purchase more than 17 million items sold on Amazon.com.au today – from electronics to digital books to household items. In this edition we provide an important update for our NSW customers as we provide all you need to know about the amendments made to the Fair Trading Regulation 2018 in relation to the expiry date of gift cards purchased and sold in NSW. Go to page 12 for all the details and how they affect you. Happy trading everyone and we’ll see you again soon in the Summer edition where we’ll show how our gift card range will provide all the tools to make Christmas a success. Kind regards, Matt Blayney Country Manager

EXPIRATION CHANGES The NSW government has made amendments to the Fair Trading Regulation 2018 in relation to the expiry date of gift cards purchased and sold in NSW. This will also effect the expiry of gift cards purchased and sold nationwide. We detail what you need to know.
WHAT ARE THE CHANGES? All gift cards sold in NSW are now deemed to have a three year minimum expiry from the date of purchase regardless of what the terms and conditions on the gift card say. There has been a transitional period in place since 31 March 2018 but that runs out on 30 September 2018. There is no issue with a gift card having an expiry period that is longer than three years. The old gift cards SKU numbers will be terminated by the end of September on all epay terminals. Therefore, every epay retailer nationwide will be affected by these changes.
WHAT DO YOU DO? You must ensure you do not run any new advertising campaigns or create any new point of sale materials that state a gift card expiry period is less than three years. You can continue to sell existing gift card stock until 30 September 2018 but please check the expiration date on the gift cards. The old SKU numbers will be terminated. See over page in regards to new cards. 12

Never give out voucher numbers over the phone, even if the caller claims to be from epay; or a product vendor; or from a Government Department.
epay will never, in person or over the phone, ask you to print a voucher and ask for the codes on it!
