repaid mobile SIM cards are so popular they deserve their very own bold display unit to capture the attention of consumers. epay consulted with Vodafone, Spark, 2Degrees and Skinny to create this dynamic product that holds SIM cards
from each of the Telcos. The unit allows consumers to view all the SIM cards in one handy location which retailers can place on their counter. This innovative display unit has been specifically designed for epay convenience store customers.
It should sit high on the counter to allow for other produce to be stacked under it and so it’s easy for your customers to see the options. This stand will lead to a boost in Telco sales in your store. And best of all, it's free!* n

Welcome W
ell, another year is already the best part of nine months over as I write this and, as per advice from my mother, the years do seem to pass faster the more experienced you become! 2015 has been a year of continual change, improvement and innovation for the New Zealand retail market, as well as the country in general. Offshore influences have made a large impact on foreign currency rates and immigration policies as well as global financial markets. We see television coverage of certain international events and realise how privileged we are to call Aotearoa New Zealand home. Knowing that, we must embrace our country’s changing market place. With increased tourism and new immigrants we need to keep business relevant and profitable, now and in the years ahead. At epay, we have welcomed these opportunities with open arms, whilst still appreciating current business partners and the work we do with them. epay has formed a partnership with the NZ Transport Agency to develop integration to collect payment for the three current toll roads open in New Zealand. Without having to stop at toll booths or coin kiosks, motorists can now make toll payments at selected BP and Caltex service stations across the upper North Island. With more toll roads planned in the future and increasing passenger trips per year, this is an exciting partnership for our group. And hopefully it will lead to other Transport Agency products being offered in the near future via a wider group of epay retailers.
“epay has formed a partnership with the NZ Transport Agency to develop integration to collect payment for the three current toll roads open in New Zealand.” We have also welcomed a much larger and diverse range of customers this year into our Currency Select dynamic currency conversion programme, managed by our sister company Pure Commerce and the BNZ. We are delighted to have Julie and the team from Cardrona Ski Field on board, as well as their parent company Real Journeys, plus the Ngai Tahu Group, duty free stores across all of New Zealand’s international airports and more than 750 other Kiwi businesses. Innovation changes in relation to payWave terminals and mobile device payment gateways means we all have to change or be left behind. Please reach out to your local epay representative or account manager and talk to them today about our new products that include gift cards, loyalty programs, incentive rewards, currency conversion and also off-shore payments through our HIFX business. Here’s to a fabulous New Zealand Spring and looking forward to another massive Christmas and summer period for our retailers. Best regards.

Advise your customers to switch over to paysafecard now! Tons of benefits for paysafecard customers: • • • •
Customers can pay online as easily as using cash. Any remaining credit remains valid and can be used later. Multiple PINs can be combined when paying. Customers can pay at thousands of providers from the worlds of online games, music, film, entertainment and so much more.
www.paysafecard.com/ukash-switch-info | success@paysafecard.com Please remember: Ukash vouchers will only be available for purchase until 31.08.2015 and may only be used until 31.10.2015.
Don’t lose your Ukash customers As Ukash becomes paysafecard, switching couldn’t be easier More and more customers in New Zealand and across the world are turning to prepaid vouchers which can be used for purchases on the internet. Paying for an online game or oth-er services and products, like music and films, couldn’t be easier and more secure. All that a customer needs to pay online, is the unique PIN that comes with each voucher. One of the most popular products in this market, Ukash, will shortly be discontinued. What initially might look like bad news for shops and customers alike, is actually good news as they can benefit from an even better alternative with paysafecard. paysafecard vouchers can be generated quickly at all ePay terminals. Advising customers to switch over to paysafecard will not only help shop-owners to hold on to their existing cus-tomers, but will also increase the customer satisfaction - as well as revenues thanks to a higher demand. The takeover of Ukash by Skrill Group, the company that owns paysafecard, means that for-mer Ukash customers will not only benefit from the global presence and acceptance of paysafecard, the market leader in Europe and beyond, but also from its continuing quest for new, innovative solutions, and the diversity of additional services. paysafecard vouchers are very similar to Ukash in terms of features and functionality, but the company paysafecard has more to offer, including a state-ofthe-art app, a 24/7 customer service in a wide range of languages, a unique online account called “my paysafecard” and much more. With paysafecard being fully customised for mobile devices, paysafecard is more popular than ever before.
Now that the takeover has been finalised, Ukash vouchers will soon be unavailable and only paysafecard will be offered. This is the case in all markets where paysafecard is already available - like New Zealand, were paysafecard was launched in April 2015 - and may also include some new markets that are currently under evaluation. New Zealand has one of the highest internet penetration rates in the world and paysafecard is a fast and safe online payment method which is ideally suited to such an environment. paysafecard allows customers to pay online quickly - and just as simply, safely and fast as if with cash. The award-winning company behind the product, paysafecard.com Wertkarten GmbH, was the first issuer of a prepaid product for the internet in Europe when it introduced the voucher in Germany and Austria in 2000. Over the years, the product paysafecard has become a huge international success, with 40 countries in which consumers can now purchase digital goods online without needing a bank account or credit card. paysafecard works in a similar way to mobile prepaid cards. Customers can purchase their paysafecard vouchers in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 NZD (or similar denomi-nations in other currencies) from one of 500,000 physical retail outlets worldwide. To make a payment, the user simply selects paysafecard as the payment option at one of paysafe-card´s official partner websites before entering the unique 16 digit PIN that comes with each paysafecard voucher. Any remaining credit remains valid and can be used later, and multiple PINs can be combined for a single payment.

SOFTWARE SPOTLIGHT
DRIVING RANGE epay’s range of software products can really drive sales for electronics retailers.
Z
ero inventory costs. Immediate benefits. Shelf-space minimisation. Sound good? These are just some of the advantages epay’s range of software products can deliver your business. And with several of the world’s leading software brands all available with epay, you can deliver exactly what the consumer wants, when they want it. One of our retailers Johnny Putrus from CISITECH COMPUTERS is glad he started
selling the epay software range over a year ago. “It cost nothing to get started. There was no contract and epay provided a free merchandised stand. There is a good margin to be had on these products,” Putrus said. “In the past, we would run out of the boxed software products. But with the epay range, we never run out. The sales returns are great, it’s good for our cash flow and we only pay for the product after we sell the item.”
Only pay for what you sell when you sell it TREND MICRO “Cash flow becomes positive as retailers only pay for the product once they sell it, and shrinkage becomes a thing of the past as the inactive cards have a zero dollar cost,” Trend Micro’s National Retail Manager David Sexton said. “The elimination of the installation disc means customers are instead directed to a download link that ensures they are always installing the most recent version. This is especially relevant with the launch of a new operating system, where the version on the disc may not be compatible with the new operating system.” HOT PRODUCT – MAXIMUM SECURITY Trend Micro’s most comprehensive multi-device protection, it provides safety against viruses, cybercriminals, identity theft and other online threats. With Maximum Security customers can shop, bank, browse and share safely online.

MICROSOFT OFFICE “With Microsoft Office available for purchase as a POSA card and as an Electronic Download, the customer can easily activate Office on any device, with the added benefit for the retailer to increase cash flow and save on the associated inventory costs,” Microsoft Office Category Manager Celeste McCormick. “POSA takes less shelf space, delivering a higher revenue return per square metre, and there is no shrinkage. Many software companies have made the move to POSA already for these clear benefits.” HOT PRODUCT – OFFICE 365 HOME Office 365 Home comes with five licences and is fully installed with Office applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote. It also comes with 1TB of OneDrive storage, enabling customers to store, for example, over 130,000 songs.

TELCO SPOTLIGHT
MEETING DEMAND We look at smartphone users’ insatiable thirst for data and how Telco’s are shaping their products to suit this trend.
A
ll the ingredients are in place to see the rate of mobile data use in New Zealand continue to rise. Smartphones are not only becoming smarter, but they are more widely available and cheaper as well, allowing more users to get on board. The sites that require lots of data – like streaming websites such as Spotify or You Tube – only seem to be getting more popular while the ever-improving 4G Network facilitates faster and faster access. To deliver just what the consumer wants, the major Telcos – all available with epay – are shaping their products to suit these data-needy users. And epay doesn’t see that thirst being quenched in a hurry. “With huge numbers of Kiwis now using smartphones, Telcos are seeing an explosion in data usage and there is no sign of it slowing down anytime soon,” epay New Zealand Managing Director Roger Smith said. “The Telco’s are including lots of data in their packages and giving consumers access to apps to keep track of their usage, billing details and offers.” Usage trends are changing and over time there has been constant growth in demand for content, in particular
12
ep ay SPRIN G 2015
with streaming services. Watching video on your phone or iPad is now an everyday activity and all the networks have invested heavily in ensuring streaming, downloading and surfing is a pleasurable experience. Especially now handset manufacturers are releasing new ranges of phones with larger screens. With virtually every corner of New Zealand covered with mobile access, people can use their phones for email, music, web surfing, texting and even talking! 3G and 4G networks are expanding all the time and so are the handset ranges available to consumers. “All the Telco’s recognise the importance of data to consumers and have included generous data inclusions to their plans,” Smith said. “Mobile network and data access on the go are becoming increasingly important to Kiwi consumers and our Telcos understand this.” With generous voice and text inclusions now considered a given in any half-decent mobile plan, everyone can be streaming their favourite songs, watching videos and talking to their mates overseas via the net day and night.
TIPS FOR RETAILERS
It’s all about keeping it simple, so make sure the benefits to the consumer are clear. Most importantly explain to customers why a plan suits their needs. Placement of POS displays in high traffic areas – like at the front of your store – will generate awareness of the product and increase the likelihood of purchase. It’s about getting the basics right. For example, knowing what all the Telco products are, so you can educate the consumer. And make sure you have an epay SIM display stand in your store to show consumers epay’s range of Telcos are always available at your store.

SUPPLIER PROFILE
SPOT LIGHT... Scott Taylor – 2degrees, Chief Sales Officer
What are the keys to being a successful Telco retailer for 2degrees? We believe it’s focusing on the fundamentals. It’s got to be seen to be sold, so make sure you’ve got the SIMs in a prominent position. You also need to make sure you sell a top-up with every SIM card and ask every customer “how much they would like to top-up today?” It’s important to remember there are more mobile phones in New Zealand than there are people so everyone who walks into your store is a potential telco customer.

What changes do you see as important in the successful retailing of Telco products? Kiwis lead very busy lives these days and technology is instrumental in helping run both their work and personal lives. Unfortunately, time is something people do not have a lot of so from a retailing perspective, it’s all about providing simplicity and convenience. Our role is to ensure the offers are as simple and easy to understand as possible and always represent great value – which is something 2degrees is known for. The retailer’s role is to provide the choice and make the transaction as quick and painless as possible for the customer.
How would you describe 2degrees’ relationship with epay, and what is the key benefit for 2degrees having epay as a partner? We have a great relationship with epay and admire how it has earnt a reputation as a leader in product and service innovation. epay plays an important role in our business through the distribution of our SIMs and top-ups, and we have a great future together.
What exciting 2degrees innovations do you think are important for our readers to know about? Obviously our recent launch of 2degrees Broadband was a significant milestone. It allows us to now offer a full service 14

DRIVING CHANGE Q&A WITH WAYNE CARROLL Senior Business Advisor for
Tolling NZ Transport Agency Why are epay and the Transport Agency working together? The addition of two roads to the Transport Agency’s toll road network, as well as the possibility of future toll roads, provided an opportunity for us to look at a more convenient and customer friendly casual toll payment solution to replace our aging kiosks. epay’s extensive retail network and partnership with service stations ticked all the right boxes. Customers fill their cars up with fuel and pay for their tolls at the same time.
T
he technology that drives epay’s gift and prepaid card range is now making toll payments simpler on three important North Island roads. The new cash payment system from epay and the NZ Transport Agency has replaced toll payment machine kiosks on the Northern Gateway (SH1) in Auckland, between Orewa and Puhoi, and manual booths on Tauranga’s Takitimu Road (SH29). It also provides a convenient payment option for drivers using the new Tauranga Eastern Link (SH2) that bypasses Te Puke. The new payment system is available through epay terminals at BP and Caltex service stations across the upper North Island. “It makes things so easy for toll road

users," Roger Smith, epay New Zealand's Managing Director, said "When you're at the service station filling up before heading away, you can prepay your tolls at the same time and not worry about stopping to pay while travelling.” “It was a big change for the Transport Agency to bring on two new toll roads, an upgraded toll system, new tolling products, a new payment channel and a new website all at the same time,” Robyn Elston, the Transport Agency’s National Manager Delivery for Access & Use, said. “It was great to have epay as a partner throughout this, helping us to provide better products and services for our customers”.
How has the integration of the Transport Agency and epay worked? The Transport Agency’s tolling system interacts with the tolling products epay has created on its system and are delivered through epay’s existing terminal network at selected retail outlets. Rather than having a few kiosks at fixed locations, the integration of our tolling system with the epay network allows customers more choice and convenience in where they can pay their tolls. It also means the Transport Agency can continue to offer a casual payment solution for customers who would prefer to pay for their tolls in person rather than online. How has the working relationship with epay been on the Tolling project? We’ve had a really positive experience collaborating with epay to achieve our common goal – a great experience for tolling customers and retailers. Together we’ve taken key learnings from the initial rollout and continue to work hard to fine tune and improve our delivery.

CHRISTMAS PLANNING
THE TILLS ARE RINGING Make sure you’re advertising loud and clear that you’re an epay retailer and capitalise on the Christmas gift buying season that’s just around the corner.
E
pay products are the perfect gifts at Christmas, whether shoppers want to give a substantial present or a stocking filler. For example, make sure you are well stocked leading up to Christmas with the likes of iTunes and Gift Station cards as these are an ideal gift solution for just about everyone. They can even be sent in a hurry to beat the busy postal service at this time of year. Buyers can simply text the iTunes or Spotify card pin number to their loved one, and that person will have instant access to their present. Yet, while epay products may be a fantastic option during the gift giving season, you still need to capture a shopper’s attention. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION Capitalise on people’s impulsive shopping tendencies at Christmas by advertising your epay products front and centre in your store via our range of merchandised stands and POS material. A shopper may have come into your store to buy something completely unrelated, but with an epay merchandised stand near your point of sale, they may be tempted to get that last minute gift for a family member.
FRONT WINDOW Capture the attention of your regular customers, as well as all those passers-by, with epay’s range of shop front POS material. This is the perfect way to let people know that you are an epay retailer.
FRONT OF STORE Make sure you have one of epay’s merchandised stands or clip strips somewhere prominent in your store. Near other popular items or in a high foot traffic location, like the front of your shop, are great options for these displays.
ORDER YOUR POS MATERIAL TODAY
COUNTER-TOP Capitalise on the last-minute nature of Christmas gift buying by placing one of epay’s counter stands near your POS equipment. Buyers are often impulsive while waiting to be served and the epay products may just inspire people to buy for that someone special.

RETAILER PROFILE
SPOT LIGHT... Nickie Kim from Smokos Sylvia Park, Auckland
We caught up with Nickie recently to get some insights into what makes the business tick and what his secrets are to running a successful retail outlet.
What are the keys to being a successful retailer? Stocking a wide range of products – from grocery items, beverage and tobacco specialty products as well as the latest epay prepaid cards, such as MOL points, paysafecard, iTunes and Xbox.
A final word from you? I've been with epay since 2007 and epay, and their dedicated account manager and merchandisers, have helped us to focus on our business. They have made our payment solutions easy and their new innovative prepaid products add so much value to our business.
What special marketing do you undertake that generates sales? Media advertising via POS media has made a huge difference when it comes to physical sales over the counter. What are the epay products that prove most successful for your store and why? Installing POS media from epay in the middle of last year was the best decision we've made since starting the business in Sylvia Park Mall.
