For me, I've made a promise to prioritize my self care, no matter how big or small that practice may be; something that so often goes out the window during the busy holiday season. We are incredibly proud of the work that the Orange Shirt Society does and are honoured to have reinvested $20,000 CAD from the sale of The Fall 2022 Jilly Box to this amazing organization. The Orange Shirt Society is on a mission to raise awareness across Canada about the Indian Residential Schools and their continuing impacts on individuals. Did You Know?

I fell in LOVE with a version of this cocktail that I had at Melrose in Calgary a while back and let me tell you, it was SO delicious that I had to recreate it for you with a little Jilly Twist! Not only does this drink taste amazing, but it looks just as stunning in the Sparkle Coupes from The Cross!

PREP TIME

5 Minutes

SERVINGS

1 Martini

INGREDIENTS

2 oz Skyy Vodka

½ oz Chambord Royale

½ oz Cranberry juice

½ oz Pineapple Juice Squeeze of Lime Juice

SUGGESTED GARNISHES

Cranberries

Sugar Dust (we used Jenna Rae Cakes Sugar Dust!)

Sprig of Thyme

DIRECTIONS:

1. Before prepping your martini, chill your glass by putting it in the freezer.

2. Using a martini shaker (or any mixing glass works too!) add in your ice cubes, 2 oz Skyy Vodka, ½ oz Chambord Royale, ½ oz of cranberry juice, ½ oz of pineapple juice and then a squeeze of lime!

3. Shake (or stir!) for 30 seconds.

4. Remove your Coupe from the freezer and pour your martini into the glass.

5. Garnish with cranberries, sprig of thyme, and/or sugar dust!

DIAMONDS, DREAMS, AND A DICTIONARY

Hard work, passion, and a VietnameseEnglish dictionary. That was all that Thu, a Vietnamese mom of two, needed to succeed and bring Paris Jewellers to life! At an early age, Chau and Trang, now co-owners (and sisters!) of this incredible brand, saw their mother work tirelessly as a goldsmith with a dream to start a fine jewelry company. Over thirty years later, this women-owned and family run business is beautiful and thriving. Paris Jewellers has designed engagement rings for celebrities such as three-time Emmy Award Winner Derek Hough, former bachelorette (and one of my besties) Kaitlyn Bristowe and MORE! Sit back, relax, and enjoy a conversation with me and the ladies behind Paris Jewellers!

Paris Jewellers had a humble and very meaningful beginning. Can you share how it all started?

In 1985, our family immigrated to Canada from Vietnam in hopes of a better future. With two young daughters, leaving the country was no easy decision. Our mom knew that a life in Alberta had much more to offer, especially with a willingness to work hard and take every chance we were given with grace and gratitude.

She worked tirelessly at odd jobs including an opportunity to train as a goldsmith which led to opening a modest store in 1987. The beginning of a dream.

During this time our mom was studying in the evenings for her ESL (English as a Second Language) classes and we used a Vietnamese-English dictionary to communicate with customers as we still didn’t know how to speak English. We learned core values of gratitude and kindness, lessons that we hold dear to this day. Our mom instilled a deep passion in us to ensure every customer we serve is happy, every time.

What are the different roles of your family in the company today?

We (co-owners Chau and Trang) work collaboratively on strategic growth plans for the company, but our day to day responsibilities are very different! Trang is our financial officer; her responsibilities include preparing budgets, financial planning and ensuring that our company is stable and thriving for our 200+ employees. Chau works creatively with the product team in designing and developing new collections/styles as well as with our management teams and retail stores focusing on customer experience and training. She is also the contact for our celebrity engagement rings! Our mom Thu, when she isn’t with her 5 grandchildren, works with our merchandise and inventory. She has always been

highly passionate about our team members and spending time with them. She still travels to all of our retail stores!

In your opinion, what is the best part of running a family business?

The best part is always having support from the people around you that you trust and love the most. With family around you, you never feel lonely. You get to share all of the wins, failures, and learnings with your loved ones.

How does your Asian heritage translate into the day-to-day of your business?

Growing up as immigrants from Vietnam, we grew up with very little. That’s why being grateful is one of our core values at Paris Jewellers. We believe that being grateful can truly change the way in which you see the world, and this is something that we hold dearly every single day in our business.

How do you give back to your communities?

Our vision has remained strong, to celebrate milestone moments through jewelry while making a difference in the community. Over the past couple of years we've been able to donate over half a million dollars to various charities including; the Asian Solidarity Fund, UNHCR (the UN Refugee Agency), The Matriarch Movement, Make-A-Wish®, Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Canadian Women’s Foundation.

What inspires your team to come up with new jewelry collections?

Since day one, we have always been inspired by the way jewelry makes us feel. Every piece reminds us of those special moments and

milestones every time we wear them. Our collections are inspired by current trends and styles that we truly believe will bring happiness to our customers. Chau is very involved in the jewelry design process and often will design pieces that she, or people in her life, will personally love and wear.

What is the difference between fine jewelry and regular jewelry?

Fine jewelry is considered solid gold which is great for everyday wear and can be passed down for generations. It is excellent quality but at a higher price point. Fashion jewelry consists of gold-plated, gold vermeil and gold-filled which are all more affordable but may eventually tarnish and you’ll have to replace them more frequently.

How do you source your metals and diamonds to ensure high quality and ethically sourced materials?

We only work with vendors that follow strict processes and our quality control team ensures the highest standards. We pride ourselves on providing our customers with exceptional quality pieces. Our diamonds have been purchased from legitimate sources not involved in conflict. We

are fully committed to complying with all the requirements specified in the Kimberley Process.

How was the process of designing Jillian’s Mini-Heart Diamond Ring included in The Winter 2022 Jilly Box?

Jillian’s Mini-Heart Diamond Ring is the first fine jewelry piece featured in the Jilly Box, it’s crafted in solid 10kt gold and features a genuine ethically sourced diamond. This hand-polished ring is delicate and dainty and is designed to wear on its own or be stacked with other rings in your personal collection. It is inspired by Jillian’s love of hearts and reflects a minimalistic style that can be worn every day!

Can you share any specific tips to care for Jillian's Mini-Heart Diamond Ring?

Crafted in solid 10kt gold, this ring is made for daily wear, and will not discolour. As with any fine jewelry, we recommend being mindful of how to wear your new piece. We suggest removing fine jewelry when sleeping and heavy exercising (lifting weights). While 10kt gold is waterproof, avoid wearing when bathing or cleaning to avoid accidental exposure to cleaning solutions and/or chemicals.

How would you style Jillian’s Mini-Heart Diamond Ring in your look?

Jillian’s Mini-Heart Diamond Ring is such a versatile piece! We definitely consider it a staple to add to your current jewelry collection. It looks great on its own, and also stacked with other rings. We love to wear this ring everyday stacked with other gold rings (including dainty and bold pieces) to show off our personalities. We also recommend pairing the ring with different metal colours to create your own unique look.

What are the plans for Paris Jewellers in the year to come?

There are so many exciting plans and collections coming up! We are launching a new collection of lab created diamonds, and are excited to be partnering with One Tree Planted. We'll be planting a tree, where it’s needed most in Canada, with every purchase made from this collection. This winter we’ll also be launching new engagement rings in our Star Wars Fine Jewelry collection. Finally, one of our priorities continues to be supporting our teams with internal training to ensure that everyone is set up for success in our company.

It’s no surprise how much I LOVE getting dressed up; anything with sequins, sparkle or glitter I just adore! This season, in particular, I’m SO excited to be busting out some of my favourite sparkly pieces from my closet! Self-Care Practices for The New Year

Is it just me or are New Year Resolutions incredibly stressful?! I feel SO defeated if I miss a day or don’t follow through on one of my resolutions. That’s why this year, I’m calling them PRACTICES instead! Incorporating more healthy practices into my self-care routine feels a lot more manageable. From creating the perfect home spa to nurturing my body and creating a healthy mindset, here are a few I genuinely love practicing for my well-being; feel free to use them for yourself!

CREATE YOUR OWN HOME SPA

Is there anything better than lighting your favourite candle, (the Crystal Ritual Candle from CROWFOOT COLLECTIVE is my go-to lately!) turning on your favourite playlist, dimming the lights, or using the String Lights from KIKKERLAND and melting in your bubble bath!?

If you’ve been following me for awhile, you may have heard me rave about the Bath Soak from Bathorium, from the relaxing aroma to making my skin feel silky soft; this stuff is a must-have when I’m creating my at home spa experience!

If you don’t happen to have a bathtub, you can create an at-home spa experience by getting a bunch of eucalyptus from your local florist and using twine to wrap it around your shower head! The shower steam will activate and release the eucalyptus oil compounds into the air, allowing you to breathe the relaxing and minty aroma!

NURTURE YOUR BODY

It’s taken a lot of trial and error to find out what my body loves and needs to thrive, and it actually changes from week to week (or even day to day!) and THAT’S OKAY! Lately, my body has been craving green smoothies (with a scoop or two of the Matcha Coconut Blend from Blume to get extra superfoods in!), a good skincare routine; the VIVIER C E Peptides for my face (which I have been using for nearly 20 years!) and the Mint Body Lotion from bāsd body care keeps my skin feeling SO hydrated and glowy! Lastly, intentionally making time to disconnect from my phone and computer and get outside; something that is A LOT harder here in the Okanagan winters, but after getting in a few good breaths of fresh air; I feel SO good.

CREATE A HEALTHY MINDSET

The new year is the perfect time to do a little check in with myself. I start by asking myself, what’s been working really well and what hasn’t been? How is my work/life balance? Taking time to answer these questions is so crucial! While it can be difficult at times, I leave feeling SO much better and motivated. On top of this, taking time to CELEBRATE and show gratitude for all the memories from the past year with those I love (the wins, the lessons learned, and everything in between!) helps put me in the best mindset! Last but definitely not least! Making sure I take care of my space by decluttering and doing a good deep clean is something that is not only therapeutic for me in the moment, but helps my mindset in the long run!
