We have a special 2 page feature on the Queens diamond jubilee and a collection of photos of street parties from 1937 and 1953. by Rosie Stinson Throughout 2012, Britain will be enjoying the celebrations for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. Centred around an extended first weekend in June, the celebrations mark 60 years of the monarch’s reign. It’s only the second time in the nation’s history that a monarch has reached such a remarkable milestone – the only previous Diamond Jubilee having been that of her great-great grandmother Queen Victoria in 1897. Elizabeth was never intended to be Queen. When her grandfather King George V died in 1936, Princess Elizabeth’s quiet family life came to an end. George V’s eldest son came to the throne as King Edward VIII, but before the end of the year he had stunned the world by abdicating in order to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson. While Edward VIII and his bride became the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Princess Elizabeth's father acceded to the throne as King George VI - and in 1937 she and her younger sister Margaret attended their parents' Coronation in Westminster Abbey. Princess Elizabeth was now first in line to the throne and a figure of even more intense public interest. So when her father, whose reign was beset by health problems, died on February 6 1952, she became the focus of the entire world.

My grandmother remembers the day vividly. “I was seven years old and in boarding school,’’ she recalls. “I remember someone saying in the dining room, ‘Hey, have you heard – the King is dead.’ It was surreal…none of us had ever known any ruler but the King and someone else said: ‘Everyone is going to be singing God Save the QUEEN.’ That sounds really strange’’ My Grandma’s friend Mike Mander remembers watching the Coronation in colour on television as a child – 15 years before colour TV came into everyday use! Elizabeth was already married to Prince Philip and had two children – Prince Charles and Princess Anne – when her glittering Coronation took place at Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953. The first decade of her reign included extensive travel overseas, visits to all parts of the United Kingdom, and the birth of her third child. Prince Andrew’s arrival made her the first reigning Sovereign to give birth since Queen Victoria, who had her youngest in 1857. The next 50 years saw milestone events, causes for public and private celebration, conflict around the world and the arrival of a new millennium. She mourned the death of her sister Margaret in February 2002 and just a few weeks later, her mother died, aged 101. But there is no stopping The Queen, who is spending 2012 cele-

brating her 60-year reign with a Grand Diamond Jubilee tour around the U.K.
of Buckingham Palace. Broadcast live on BBC One and Radio 2, the concert will also be open to ticket-holding members of the public.
Everyone has different opinions about the Monarchy and some will be celebrating more than others. One person who will be cheering as loudly as anyone is Mancunian Mike Thornton, who currently lives in Guardamar. He told me: ‘’I think it’s fabulous, I think without the monarchy we would have been in a mess a long time ago. The monarchy has brought the U.K a lot of tourism. The Queen has kept a lot of peace...she has improved international relations massively. There is a lot more to her than we might think. I think it’s good that people are celebrating her reign: she has done a lot for this country and devoted her life to the people.’’
The BBC and music maestro Gary Barlow are bringing together some of the biggest names from the worlds of music, dance and musical theatre - including Shirley Bassey, Alfie Boe, Jools Holland, Jessie J, JLS, Elton John, Tom Jones, Lang Lang, Annie Lennox, Madness, Paul McCartney, Kylie Minogue, Cliff Richard, Ed Sheeran and Stevie Wonder. After the concert Her Majesty will light the National Beacon to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee. A Diamond Jubilee website has been launched by the Royal Household. It features the latest news, photographs, announcements and historical information about The Queen's 60-year reign. Visitors can also send her a congratulatory message.
So what will the official Jubilee celebrations entail? Well, the late May bank holiday has been moved to Monday June 4 and an additional Jubilee bank holiday will take place on Tuesday June 5. The Monday will see a star-studded concert, set against the spectacular backdrop

Having a Baby: Pregnancy and Birth in Spain (Part 2) Registration of Birth in Spain Births must be registered within eight days (but up to 30 days is accepted depending on the circumstances) at the local civil registry office (Registro Civil). It is the parents' responsibility to ensure this is done and it must be carried out in person, by a parent or direct family member. In some cases the hospital, clinic or midwife may register the birth. Again, Professional Business Support is available if you need help or assistance with this procedure. The registered name must conform to Spanish regulations regarding
• NIE (Foreigner's Identification Number) of the parents • Libro de Familia ( if available) or marriage certificate legalised and translated Registering a child born outside marriage In this case, a declaration is required by both parents, with the father and the mother both registering the birth in person, providing the following documentation: • Medical delivery report (the certificate which is provided by the hospital where the delivery took place) • The parents' NIEs • Indication of the mother's marital status • If a prior marriage existed, the legal presumption of paternity must be removed by providing a marriage certificate and a separation certificate or divorce decree (witnessed) • In the case of separation, two witnesses must accompany the parent to the Civil Registry

There are two types of certificate: • short/abridged (un extracto de inscripción de nacimiento or certificado simple): contains the date of birth, the names of the child and parents and the inscription number • full birth certificates (un certificado literal de nacimiento): full certificates may be needed for registration with the Consulate of a baby born to foreign national resident in Spain Once the birth certificate is issued, a Libro de Familia (if not already obtained through marriage of the parents) is allocated. This book contains the full history of the parents and children of the family.
Parental Leave in Spain Statutory maternity leave in Spain is currently 12 weeks paid leave from work, which may be taken before (if complications are detected) or after delivery. This is increased by two weeks for each child in the event of a multiple birth from the second baby. Fathers are entitled to 15 days paternity leave (depending on their job). In 2015 this will be increased to 30 days. If there are complications for either the baby or the mother, the father is entitled to longer leave.

A Natural Approach to Anti-Aging The past century has seen many amazing advances in medicine, technology and science, but none of them have been as important to our day to day lives than the lengthening of the human life span. In the year 1900, the average life span of an American was a mere 47 years, while today it has risen to 76 years of age. This represents an amazing 50% increase in average life span in a mere 100 years. As amazing as these advances are, there are many scientists and health care providers who believe that human life span could increase to at least 115 years, while many others go further and say that average life span could increase to 150 or even 200 years. The increase in average life expectancy that has been experienced in the period from 1900 to 2000 was due mostly to improvements in sanitation, and to the elimination of many fatal illnesses through a combination of vaccines and other advances in the world of medicine, such as the introduction of antibiotics. For instance, a century ago deaths from infections during childbirth were a leading cause of deaths among women, but thanks to the introduction of penicillin and other antibiotics, such infections are now extremely rare. In spite of these awesome increases in average life expectancy, aging is still perceived as a kind of downward spiral which includes degeneration and disease. To some extent, this perception is all too real, with over half of all Americans over age 65 taking multiple medications for a variety of illnesses and chronic conditions. It is estimated that the average senior citizen takes as
many as twelve doses of medication each and every day, and many older citizens are frequent guests in a variety of hospitals and long-term care facilities. This downward spiral is not necessary, and too many people today are suffering from illnesses and conditions that can be easily prevented or controlled through a combination of dietary and
lifestyle changes. For instance, it has been estimated that up to 35% of all cancers may be the result of poor diet, and as many as half of all heart disease can be prevented through changes in diet and lifestyle. It is easy to see, therefore, how a combination of dietary and lifestyle changes can improve the quality as well as the length of each person's life. Up to recently, there has been a sort of fatalistic
attitude regarding aging. This attitude was shared by both health care professionals and lay people, and it held that aging, and its associated decline in health, was inevitable. Today, however, more and more alternative health care professionals are beginning to feel that aging and decline are far from synonymous, and that there are a number of positive steps people can take to avert the problems typically associated with old age. For instance, it has been suggested that a number of vitamins and supplements, particularly those rich in antioxidants, can protect the body against certain compounds that may speed up the process of aging. Vitamins and supplements have also been shown to help rejuvenate the body's immune system. In addition, there are foods that can substantially decrease the risk of developing macular degeneration and cataracts, which are the leading cause of blindness among older citizens. Despite many people's belief that muscles grow weaker as people age, it has been shown that it is possible, through the right mix of exercise, to maintain strength and build muscle mass well into our nineties and even beyond. Proper diet, in combination with vitamins and minerals, can also help prevent the prostate problems often experienced by older men and the menopausal and post-menopausal conditions often experienced by older women. So the good news is that aging need not be associated with ailments and decline. Simply by taking some preventative measures, eating a healthy diet and getting plenty of exercise, you can enjoy the many extra years science and medicine have allowed us to have.

The Brazilian Blowdry Since the creation of straighteners there's not a set of locks in the land that haven't lusted after smooth and shiny strands. One Direction are afraid they have Chlamydia! Having a koala urinate on you isn't pleasant -- especially if it puts you at risk of getting chlamydia. That's the fear recently faced by Liam Payne and Harry Styles, members of the popular boy band One Direction. The band is currently touring Australia and New Zealand and, as part of their visit, Payne and Styles each cuddled with a 3year-old koala named Kat. But during the encounter, Kat answered nature's call and whizzed right on them, according to HeatWorld.com. That was bad enough, but the two teen idols, both 18, worried they saw their lives flashing before their eyes when they learned that 80 percent of koalas reportedly have chlamydia, a sexually transmitted disease whose effects include severe conjunctivitis (or "pink eye"), incontinence, prostatitis and kidney damage, according to AOL News. To say that Payne and Styles were shocked to find out that being soaked with koala urine put them at risk is an understatement. "I'm genuinely scared. This is worrying," Payne told the Sun. "I’d have never picked the thing up if I'd known." Although transmission from koalas to humans is unlikely, a minority of the creatures have a strain of chlamydia that can be passed to other species, The Frisky reported.

Diving in the Costa Blanca & Costa Calida by Cathy Bloor
They sometimes refer to this area as the forgotten Med. When we think of areas to go for good diving, our thoughts tend towards what we would describe as more exotic destinations such as the Red Sea or Caribbean but right here on our doorstep is some fabulous diving. We at Costa Blanca Diving have been diving out here for 10 years now & still haven’t covered all the dive sites in the area. We are certainly the longest established non Spanish Dive Centre in the area & have also been established longer than most of the Spanish Centres as well. We are situated along with our Spanish partners at the port in Cartagena, but watch out for the new additional retail premises which we are planning to open in the very near future. In the La Manga, Cartagena area alone we have upwards of 27 dive sites available, something for everyone, all levels and abilities and such a wide variety of dives. We have shore dives, reef dives, wreck dives, cave dives & scenic dives. The Islas Hormigas marine reserve is a range of undersea mountains, which has a plethora of marine life such as shoals of barracuda, giant grouper, eagle Rays, moray eels and conger eels to name but a few.
never know what sea life will be there on the day. There are several wreck dives in the area. Most are genuine wrecks apart from one training wreck dive which the Spanish army use for training purposes. This is a double delight for beginners & inexperienced divers as they have sunk a tug boat & a harrier jump jet at just 14 metres a few metres apart just outside Cartagena Port. Of the genuine wrecks, the Spanish tend to name wrecks carrying cargo when no souls were lost after the cargo they were carrying. We have the Naranjito which was carrying oranges & went down in the 1950´s. We also have the Carbonara which was a Welsh Coal Ship built in Cardiff in 1913 & was carrying coal out to troops in the First World War when it was torpedoed in 1914. We also have several wrecks around the Marine Reserve Special permission has to be obtained to dive these as they were passenger ships with souls on board.
Occasionally there are dolphins and last spring after a fabulous dive with visibility of 30 metres plus that nobody wanted to end, as we were coming back on to the diveboat we spotted three Rorqual Whales, all approximately 18 metre long. Guardia were there with their boat which had sonar and told us to follow them as they tracked and followed the pod almost all the way to Cartagena port, what a thrill and an amazing sight. On that day we had holidaymakers on the dive and on the way back to Cabo de Palos harbour the Spanish Air display team were out practising so they all got a free air display as well. Our tourists were extremely impressed with that dive. The beauty of diving in this area is that every dive is different & that even diving a site again you
Having said all that, we also have some excellent shore dives, Cabo de Palos, Cala Cortina, El Gorguel, are some of them suitable for any level of diver. Courgette, Pesto and Parmesan Pizza Ingredients 1 spray(s) calorie controlled cooking spray 1 medium onion, thinly sliced 1 medium courgette, thinly sliced diagonally 2 tbsp red pesto 1 medium thin & crispy pizza base, 9 inch 2 tsp dried oregano, 1 tsps salt 1 tsp black pepper 15g shaved parmesan cheese, 1 tsp basil to garnish .
1.Preheat the oven to 200°C, fan oven 180°C, Gas Mark 4. 2.Heat a non-stick frying pan and mist with low fat cooking spray. Gently fry the onions over a low heat until very soft, adding a splash of hot water, if needed. 3.Pre-heat a char-grill pan or the grill. Mist the courgette slices with low fat cooking spray, then char-grill or grill them until tender. 4.Spread the pesto sauce over the pizza base
Four Cheese Pizza 1.Preheat the oven to 200°C/400°F/Gas Mark 6. Place the onion, garlic, passata and Italian seasoning in a blender and grind coarsely. 2.Place the pizza base on a non-stick baking tray. Spoon the tomato mixture over leaving a border around the edge. Scatter with the sliced chilli and cover with all the cheeses. Bake near the top of the oven for 20 minutes. 3.Just before serving scatter with shredded basil. Serve hot with a tossed salad.

Goats Cheese and Spinach Pizza 1.Heat 1tbsp of the olive oil and fry the sliced onions for 8-10 mins until softened but not browned. Allow to cool. 2.Put the spinach in a colander set over a pan of simmering water. Cover and steam for 3-4 mins until just wilted. Allow to cool.
3.Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F, gas mark 7). 4.Top the pizza base with the fried onions, spinach and crumbled cheese. Scatter over the pine nuts and tomatoes then drizzle over the rest of the olive oil. Bake in the oven for 10-15 mins.

Chicken Pizza with Avocado Ingredients 1x26cm pizza base 100g cream cheese 1 small red onion, sliced 150g chicken tenderloins, cooked 3 tbsp tomato salsa 1 small avocado, peeled and sliced
1.Spread the pizza base evenly with the cream cheese, then top with onion and chicken. 2.Bake the pizza in a preheated oven, Gas 6, 200 C for 10-15 minutes until golden. 3.Top with salsa and avocado, serve immediately.
Smoked Sausage Pizza
Tuna and Sweetcorn Pizza Ingredients 1 pizza base 1tsp oil 265g jar tomato and herb pizza topping 200g can tuna in brine, drained 12 olives, drained 1 small red onion, finely sliced. 198g can sweetcorn, drained 100g Cheddar, grated
1.Spread the base with the tomato pizza topping. Add the tuna, olives, onion and sweetcorn, distributing everything evenly. 2.Sprinkle with the cheese and bake for 20 mins. Leave for 1-2 mins before slicing with a knife or pizza cutter.
Ingredients 1 smoked sausage, sliced 1 large ready made pizza base 150g grated Cheddar cheese 1 jar of tomato pizza sauce
1.Preheat the oven to 200°C/400°F/gas 6. 2.Spread the sauce over the pizza base before adding the sliced smoked sausage and Cheddar cheese. 3.Place in the oven and cook for 1015 mins or until the base is crisp and the topping is golden.
Butternut & Rosemary Pizza 1.Make the bread dough according to pack instructions, knead for a few mins, then, using a little flour to stop it sticking, roll out into 2 large rounds and lift onto baking sheets. 2. Heat the oil in a large frying pan, then fry the squash with the onion and chopped rosemary for 5 mins until beginning to soften and brown. Splash in about 200ml water, then cook over a fierce heat for 10 mins, stirring until the squash is tender
Ingredients 500g pack white bread mix 1 tbsp olive oil , plus more to drizzle, if you like and almost all the liquid has gone. Heat oven to 220C/ fan 200C/gas 7. 1 large butternut squash , 3. Stir the sugar, vinegar and some peeled and cut into small seasoning into the squash mix, then cubes 2 red onions , sliced spread it all over the pizza dough. 3 rosemary sprigs, leaves Top with a few small rosemary chopped, plus extra to decosprigs, crumble over the feta, then rate drizzle with a little more oil, if you like. Bake 1 at a time for 15 mins or 1 tbsp caster sugar 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar until the pizzas are golden and 100g feta cheese crisp. Serve with a salad.
Full English Pizza 1.Heat oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7. Make up the bread mix following pack instructions. On a lightly floured surface, roll out to fit a lightly oiled 30 x 40cm baking tray, or two smaller trays. Spread the passata over the base, dot over the sausages and mushrooms, add the bacon, then cook for 20 mins at the top of the oven. 2. Remove the pizza from the oven and crack the eggs on. Return to the oven and cook for 5 mins more, or longer depending how well-cooked you like your eggs.

Geraniums The pelargonium, commonly known as the geranium, is one of the most popular patio and garden plants. The windows and balconies of many Spanish homes are adorned with their vivid and colourful blooms. The geranium originates from the regions of southern Africa, some parts of Asia and Syria and was introduced into Europe in the 17th Century. Geraniums are divided into many groups, among which is the most dominant group known as pelargonium zonal. Most of the geraniums found in Spanish gardens are from this group. They produce long stalks and their leaves are usually round and bumpy with serrated edges. Generally they are variegated or bear a horseshoe shaped mark. The flowers can be single, semi-double or double in many vibrant shades such as scarlet, red, pink, salmon, white and purple. If cared for correctly geraniums will flower all year round.
Other varieties of geranium are Pelargonium Peltatum, commonly known as the ivy leaf geranium. This variety are usually grown in hanging plant pots or baskets providing a multitude of coloured flowers. There is another variety known as Pelargonio de Pensamiento and is known as such because pensamiento means thought in Spanish and it is as if these plants are thinking about flowering as their flowers only come between March and June and for the rest of the year they remain green. Another variety has very aromatic leaves. Care of geraniums: Geraniums thrive perfectly in full sunlight during the whole year. If they are slightly in the shade they will produce less flowers. They don’t need a lot of water as too much will rot the stalks, so good drainage is important. They are best planted in a mixture of compost and a small amount of soil. Once planted, let the soil become almost dry before watering again. If the plants are flowering give them a few drops of liquid fertilizer every 15 days. When there are only a few flowers, it is recommendable to prune the plants otherwise the stalks will grow weak. They only produce leaves and flowers at the end of the stalks so they look better pruned into a bush shape.

Oranges and Lemons Learn how to grow your own orange and lemon trees
1. Save your orange seeds. Immediately wash them in tepid water and begin the planting process. You can use the paper towel method for germination, but the soil method, described here, is more effective. 2. Prepare a container with sterile potting soil. Before filling it with soil, create drainage holes. Paper cups tend to dry out sooner, so if you are punching ice-pick-sized holes in the bottom of the container for drainage, do about four for plastic and two for paper. 3. Plant the seeds 1/2 inch under the potting soil. Add enough water to moisten the
soil, but don't let it get soggy.
LEMONS
4. Cover the cup with either a plastic bag or plastic wrap. Keep checking to make certain that it remains moist.
1. Save the seeds from a lemon and wash with plain water. You can germinate the seeds in sterile soil in a paper cup, keeping it watered and covered with plastic to maintain moisture.
5. Store the pot in a warm place. Sunlight is not necessary at this time. Directly in front of a register is not a good idea because of the drying effect. Atop an electrical appliance like a television or refrigerator is usually best. 6. Move to a sunny area and remove the plastic once the seed has sprouted. Maintain moisture. Transplant to a more permanent container when the seedling is large enough.
2. You also can germinate the seeds within paper towels. Moisten 3 paper towels and place them one on top of the other. Fold them in half, and then fold them in half again. Put the seeds in the middle and fold again several times to get maximum coverage and thickness. 3. Keep the paper towels moist continuously. You can put them on a plate that allows you to keep an additional amount of moisture in it. You also can cover the towels with wrap or a
plastic bag. 4. Keep the towels out of the sunlight but in a warm spot. However, don't place them next to a radiator, or they will dry out quickly. 5. Transplant the seed to a paper cup filled with potting soil once you see a small root and leaves beginning to emerge. Make certain that the leaves are just below the soil. 6. Put the plant in the sunlight. It will take time for the plant to outgrow the cup. Meanwhile, look for a container twice that size for transplanting. Do not overwater. If you are using a plastic cup instead of paper, punch a few small holes in the bottom for drainage.

The province of Valencia, the largest of the three making up the Valencian community, is situated in the centre of the Spanish Mediterranean coastline while overlooking the spacious Gulf of Valencia; it is skirted at the back by a group of medium-high mountains and rolling plains leading to the lands of Aragon and Castilla-La Mancha. It is also opposite the Balearic islands and equidistant from the country's two major decision-taking centres: Madrid and Barcelona Valencia City is one of the most lively and historical cities in Spain, full of local traditions and festivities. It is located right on the Mediterranean coast, on the shores Turia River, and is considered the third most important and third largest city in the country. It is famed for its nightlife, the stunning architecture of its Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias the wild Las Fallas spring festival. The city celebrates the final days of the winter and the arrival of spring with spectacular fires and pyrotechnics, and from March 15th to 19th Valencia is given over to a carnival of bonfires, fiesta, fireworks and a healthy dose of satire. Besides the archeological monuments, Valencia is known as the city of the flowers, it has many beautiful gardens and parks, such as the Turia garden, The Botanic Garden, The Royal Gardens, and The Ayora Garden among others. Nowadays, Valencia has grown rapidly, becoming an economic and financial leader in Spain; this progress is the result of the tourism and the construction industry. One of these constructions was the city of Arts and Sciences that was designed by Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela and constructed by the engineers Alberto Domingo y Carlos Lázaro; it attracts more than 4 million people each year. The City of Arts and Sciences is an ensemble of five areas in the dry river bed. The "city" is made up of the following: El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia: Opera house and arts centre; L'Hemisfèric: Imax Cinema and Planetarium; L'Umbracle: Walkway/Garden; El Museu de les Ciencies Principe Felipe: Science museum; and L'Oceanografic: Oceanarium Park. Sightseeing around the city begins in the old quarter. Until the mid-nineteenth century, it was defended by a wall, which was the inner route of the no 5 bus. Still standing as a proof are the graceful Torres de Serranos, the spacious Torres de Quart and some remains of the wall in the basement of the Valencia Institute of Modern Arts (IVAM). The most outstanding artistic heritage is the one found in the districts of Seu and Xerea, where the marks left by the Romans lie hidden beneath Arab ruins and modern churches and palaces: Valencia Plaza de la Virgen, Plaza de la Virgen, Valencia Music Palace And Palau de la Música (Music Palace). The Mercat district took shape around the trading life of the city's inhabitants. Accordingly, its two most emblematic buildings are used for trading purposes. The Gothic building of La Lonja, declared by UNESCO as a universal heritage monument, features a beautiful columned room where the old tables on which trading transactions were finalised are still in use today. Outside the destroyed wall grew the Valencia of the bourgeoisie, with its wide pavements, broad landscaped thoroughfares and countless instances of modernist architecture. On the

other side of the Turia's old riverbed lie the nursery gardens, along with the Fine Arts Museum and the ultramodern part of the city which, on account of its size, serves as a nexus between the coastal townships and the old quarter. The futuristic face of the city is mirrored on the old riverbed through the Gulliver Children's park and the leisure and culture complex, the Ciutat de les Arts i de les Ciencies (the City of Arts & Culture). Life in the city spreads down to the seafront with the harbour and the beaches of Las Arenas and La Malvarrosa. The City of Arts and Sciences This is a huge futuristic educational complex designed for Valencia by the famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrva, as a present to his home city. Calatrava's vision is that of the space age, inspired by animal skeletons. You can enjoy it for free, unless you want to go inside and explore what it has to offer - the City is much more than the pretty face, offering amazing entertainment and education. The City of Arts and Sciences is composed of 5 elements all bound together in a luxurious lanscape of clear water spaces and greenery. The Concert / Opera Hall The Palace of Arts has 4 distinct auditoriums for various kinds of stage arts, from classical concerts and operas to theatre plays. DUe to its incredible acoustics it is becoming one of the most prestigious opera halls in Europe. The Marine Park L'Oceanografic is the biggest marine park in Europe. A collection of smaller structures grouped around and across a water reservoir. The viewing is actually underground, thousands of species of marine flora and fauna, including sharks and dolphins. There is a section on every marine zone in the world - from Arctic to Mediterranean. This is a more relaxing and visual experience than the Museum of Sciences, and more suitable for kids. Average viewing time: 3.5 hours The IMAX Cinema. L'Hemispheric usually has 5-7 various shows on display, all of educational and/or visually stunning character. This is IMAX 3D cinema and perhaps the most engaging part of the complex for the kids. Everyone lies almost horizontally on the floor and watches the hemispheric screen above them. Average viewing time: 1 hour The Museum of Science. An enormous long structure with 3 Floors of ultra-interactive science material on topics like electricity, physical laws, lasers, human body, sport sciences, sound, lights, planetarium, and many others. Some stuff is purely fun, other takes good brain work, all of it is fascinating. Unlike in other museums, the rules here are - pull, push, touch, twist. Most of the exhibition is permanent, with a couple of rotating temporary sections. Average viewing time: 3 hours The Greenhouse. This is a luxurious green promenade with species of plants from all over the world. It is also the only part of the complex with public access free of charge. Average viewing time: 3 hours

When to give a dog affection GIvING dogs affection at the right time is critical in helping them become calm and balanced. If you are giving them affection when they are showing fear, dominance or aggression etcetera, this is not good. The reason is because whenever you give dogs affection, you are nurturing the state of mind they are currently displaying. I visit many clients who for years have been giving their dogs affection when they are in a fearful state of mind. The fear then increases and the dog becomes trapped in a psychological nightmare. Many people shower their dogs with affection when they jump up at them to say hello, or when the dog invades the human’s space and demands a pat on the head. I have seen dogs climb up on the sofa, refuse to get off and within a few seconds they are getting affection from the human. This type of action will then make your dog increasingly dominant and this can then lead to many unwanted problems. Some people give their dogs affection when they are acting in an aggressive manner to try to calm the pet down and this really is a recipe for disaster, as the aggression will only increase. You should only give dogs affection when they are in a calm state of mind. And the best way of telling if they are calm is by their eyes. A dog who is not calm has dilated pupils, whereas a calm dog will have soft, relaxed eyes. You should also remember that affection is not just stroking your dog. It is also looking and talking to them, giving them a treat, food or a toy and one of the biggest ways you can give dogs affection is by taking them for a walk. So before they get any of these things they have to be calm. This way calm is being nurtured within your dog. Most importantly, to achieve a calm state of mind for your dog,
YOU have to be calm. Dogs always mirror their owners, so it is vital that the human is practising calm in some form on a daily basis. This can be done by yoga, meditation or sitting in a room with no distractions, such as a phone or TV etc.... and enjoying some quiet time, so that you can relax and stop thinking. Just switch the mind off. The more you do it the better you will get at having no thoughts and just complete silence inside and outside the body. When you do want to give your dog affection, call him or her to you and providing they are calm, give affection for as long as you want, but not in an excited manner. Stroke them calmly and slowly, so that you keep them in a calm state of mind. I never endorse people playing roughly with their dogs and play fighting as you are then nurturing a competitive state of mind, just as some people do when they play tug of war games with their dogs, which is never a good idea. Finally, awareness is the key to making sure you give affection at the right times. I have known so many people to be on ‘automatic pilot’ when it comes to giving their dogs affection, constantly doing it at the wrong times. The reason humans do this is because their brains are working too fast, without ever being switched off, so there is no awareness whatsoever. That’s another reason you have to practise some form of relaxation each day. I always remind my clients that their dogs are their Guardian Angels, because in order to have a calm and balanced dog, the human has to also be calm and balanced. Dogs never lose hope that one day humans will actually get the message that we have to be calm in order for them to be calm. So be disciplined and make sure that you are your dog’s calm mirror each day, because you only get out of something what you put in.

SKYACTIV engines are about making internal combustion as effective as possible. There are two adaptations of the 2.2-litre SKYACTIV-D: a standard power diesel producing 110 kW/150 PS at 4,500 rpm and 380 Nm of torque in the 1,800-2,600rpm range, and a high power version (AWD only) putting out 129 kW/175 PS at 4,500 rpm and a formidable 420 Nm at 2,000 rpm. Together with the 6-speed SKYACTIV-MT manual transmission, the latter accelerates the CX-5 from a standstill to 100 km/h in only 8.8 seconds, reaching a top speed of 207 km/h. Coupled with a SKYACTIV-Drive automatic, this high-power AWD diesel completes the 0-100 sprint in 9.4 seconds and tops out at 204 km/h. The CX-5 is the first Mazda as well as the first non-premium compact SUV with a Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system that helps prevent low speed (4-30km/h) frontal collisions. SCBS uses a near-infrared sensor on the windscreen to monitor preceding vehicles at a range of up to around 6m. Should it detect an elevated risk of collision, SCBS pre-fills the brake to remove any play and prepare for an emergency stop. Now, if the hazard is avoided or the danger subsides, the brake prefill is immediately cancelled. But if the driver does not respond or take measures to avoid a crash, SCBS automatically applies the brakes. It thus helps averts accidents at speeds of up to 15 km/h while at least reducing the intensity of a collision when driving as fast as 30 km/h. This, of course, decreases the potential for injury as well as damage to the vehicle and the subsequent cost of repairs. All in all, the Mazda CX-5 is remarkably safe to be in or around. In fact, it has already exhibited outstanding results during Mazda's own rigorous crash testing under a range of real-world situations, from full and offset frontal and rear collisions to pole collisions and side impacts.

Speeding Ticket A fellow bought a new Mercedes and was out on an interstate road for a nice evening drive. The top was down, the breeze was blowing through his hair and he decided to open her up. As the needle jumped up to 80mph, he suddenly saw a flashing red and blue light behind him. "There ain't no way they can catch a Mercedes," he thought to himself, and opened her up further. The Surgery A married couple was in a terrible accident where the woman's face was severely burned. The doctor told the husband that they couldn't graft any skin from her body because she was too skinny. So the husband offered to donate some of his own skin. The husband and wife agreed that they would tell no one about where the skin came from, and requested that the doctor also honor their secret. After all, this was a very delicate matter. After the surgery was completed, everyone was astounded at the woman's new beauty. She looked more beautiful than she ever had before! All her friends and relatives just went on and on about her youthful beauty! One day, she was alone with her husband, and she was overcome with emotion at his sacrifice. A couple had two little boys ages 8 and 10, who were excessively mischievous. They were always getting into trouble and their parents knew that if any mischief occurred in their town, their sons would get the blame. The boys' mother heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The clergyman agreed, and asked to see them individually. So, the mother sent her 8-year-old first, in the morning, with the older boy to see the clergyman in the afternoon. So the clergyman raised his voice some more and shook his finger in the boy's face and bellowed, "Where is God!?" The boy screamed and bolted from the room. He ran directly home and dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him. When his older brother found him in the closet, he asked, "What happened?" The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied, "We are in big trouble this time! God is missing and they think we did it!"

(This is supposedly a true account recorded in the Police Log of Sarasota, Florida) An elderly Florida lady did her shopping and, upon returning to her car, found four males in the act of leaving with her vehicle. She dropped her shopping bags and drew her handgun, proceeding to scream at the top of her lungs, "I have a gun, and I know how to use it! Get out of the car!" The four men didn't wait for a second threat. They got out and ran like mad. The lady, somewhat shaken, then proceeded to load her shopping bags into the back of the car and got into the driver's seat. She was so shaken that she could not get her key into the ignition. She tried and tried, and then she realized why. It
was for the same reason she had wondered why there was a football, a Frisbee, and two 12-packs of beer in the front seat. A few minutes later, she found her own car parked four or five spaces farther down. She loaded her bags into the car and drove to the police station to report her mistake. The sergeant to whom she told the story couldn't stop laughing. He pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale men were reporting a car jacking by a mad, elderly woman described as white, less than five feet tall, glasses, curly white hair, and carrying a large handgun. No charges were filed. Moral of the story? If you're going to have a senior moment...make it memorable.

Immigration officer added his wife to terrorist list An immigration officer tried to rid himself of his wife by adding her name to a list of terrorist suspects. He used his access to security databases to include his wife on a watch list of people banned from boarding flights into Britain because their presence in the country is ‘not conducive to the public good’. As a result the woman was unable for three years to return from Pakistan after travelling to the county to visit family. The tampering went undetected until the immigration officer was selected for promotion and his wife name was found on the suspects’ list during a vetting inquiry. The Home Office confirmed today that the officer has been sacked for gross misconduct. The incident is likely to raise new questions over levels of efficiency in the UK Border Agency, the organisation formed nearly three years ago by then Home Secretary Jacqui
Smith to take over all immigration controls. It has been criticised for poor performance by the Parliamentary Ombudsman and has suffered its share of humiliating incidents – for example the incident 19 months ago when an illegal immigrant escaped from the channel tunnel port at Folkestone by clinging to the underside of a bus carrying Border Agency staff. The Agency is charged with putting into operation the Coalition’s policy of reducing numbers of workers from outside Europe allowed into Britain. A spokesman said: ‘We expect the highest levels of integrity. Allegations of misconduct are thoroughly investigated and we always take action swiftly where we find members of staff who have abused their position. ‘On the extremely rare occasions where this occurs, the strongest action is taken.’ The officer in the latest incident to come to
light was employed by a unit maintaining watch lists. He is understood to have worked at the Agency’s headquarters at Lunar House in Croydon, South London. His wife visited family in Pakistan but when she tried to return to Britain she was not allowed onto the aircraft. Airline and immigration officials refused to explain to her why. She was forced to remain in Pakistan for three years until her husband’s manipulation of the suspect list came to light. He is understood to have applied for a promotion that would have meant a higher level of security clearance. During the vetting process the name of his wife was discovered on the suspect list, to the surprise of security staff. When questioned, the officer confessed to his alteration of the lists and was sacked.
