The Back Seat Ghost

ery

Taken in 1959 by Mabel Chinn

While visiting the gravesite of her mother, Mabel Chinnery took this spur of the moment picture of her husband, who was waiting in the car. Upon developing the film and noticing the eerie figure in the back seat, just behind her husband's right shoulder, Mabel exclaimed that the ghostly person was her mother. An expert examined the photo for signs of fraud and was noted as saying, "I stake my reputation on the fact that the picture is genuine," adding that the image was not a reflection nor a double exposure.

The small, abandoned cemetery was empty except for the ghost hunters, and yet when the film was developed this image of a lonely young woman clearly appeared. Bachelor's Grove cemetery is considered to be one of the most haunted in America.

Thought to be the ghost of Lady Dorothy Townshend, this anomaly has haunted the oak staircase of Raynham Hall in Norfolk, England since the 1700s. Legend has it that her husband, Charles Townshend, suspected his wife of adultery and locked her in a small room of the great house until she eventually died there. When materialized, she is often seen wearing a brown, satin dress. One report tells of her eyes being gouged out.

Made Simple

Registering on the Padron, Why Should I? What is the padrón? • Padrón - a list of all the people who live in a certain town • Empadronarse - the act of registering yourself on this list with your local town hall.

Who should register? It is obligatory by Spanish law to register on the padrón at your Town Hall where you habitually reside in Spain, yet many British ex-pats still have not done so. Perhaps some view the padrón as a means of vigilance by the state, in ‘big-brother’ fashion, well it’s not. In reality, it is simply a way for the town hall to know how many people of which nationality live in their area, without entering into investigations as to a person’s official residence status or financial affairs.

How do I register? You don’t have to own your house to register, just have an address where you habitually live here in Spain, no matter whether you are the owner, you rent, or live with family or friends you should register. Registration is not a long drawn out registration process. Simply go to the padrón office of your town hall and fill in the form they provide. Take along official identification, such as a passport, and also your NIE or residence certificate/card, a recent utility bill in your name, and the deeds to your house or a copy of your rental contract. Although you may have to return to collect your certificate, the actual registration is completed all on the same day.

What are the benefits? Once you’ve completed the simple process, you can begin to enjoy all the advantages being on the padrón offers, such as: Better public services Central Government allocates money to the different municipalities according to how many people are on the padrón. Therefore, if you are not registered, your town hall is losing money for the provision of health centres, police officers, fire fighters and schools.

Access to benefits and social care You must be on the padrón for a certain period of time in order to access some income-related benefits and other aspects of social care available through social services at your town hall.

A reduction in taxes Depending on the town hall, registration on the padrón could mean reductions in certain community charges and inheritance tax. Furthermore, those on the padrón can also often enjoy discounted courses, leisure and cultural activities run by the town hall.

Discounted travel A current 'Cerificado de Empadronamiento' can allow residents of Spanish islands to receive discounts of up to 50% on air fares and ferry tickets between the islands and the mainland.

Voting Rights In order to register to vote in local or European elections, you must first be registered on the padrón.

An easier life You’ll find you need your padrón certificate to carry out various administrative tasks, such as register for healthcare, register your car with Spanish number plates or enrol your children in school. More information can be found on Residentes Europeos website. www.residenteseuropeos.com/padron_en.php

Padrón status checks Our understanding from talking to local and national authorities is that there is currently a one-off exercise underway to check the accuracy of the padrón registers. This means you may be contacted to confirm your status on the padrón. If you are contacted, you will be asked to answer to remain active on the padrón and if you don't then you may be removed from the register. If you are not contacted, you are not required to confirm your status. For certain services, schools (e.g. social services) you may be required to show a recent padrón certificate which is less than 3 months old. This is normal procedure and is not related to the above mentioned project. Non-EU citizens are required to renew their padrón certificate in any case. Please contact your locality authority about any changes to the padrón registration process.

If you don't feel like drinking cold water, opt for a herbal tea that also offers plenty of anti-oxidant benefits, such as mint tea, green or white tea or berry teas.

Health Benefits Prostate Cancer: The protective compounds present within the pumpkin seeds, called phytosterols can lower the risk of prostate cancer. These work by shrinking the prostate and stimulating the secretion of chemicals that protect against the transformation of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). High DHT levels can cause enlargement of the prostate glands.

Anti-Inflammatory Effect: The Beta carotene present in pumpkin seeds and flesh has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Regular consumption of pumpkin can protect against joint inflammation and arthritis. Pumpkins have been known to provide relief from inflammation quickly, without the harmful side-effects of anti-inflammatory medicines. Great on your skin: The high amount of Vitamin A, C and

Zinc lozenges are also widely available (and very

6. Avoid overdoing it on refined flours or sugars Too much white sugar and flour will not only contribute to weight gain, but can also crash your immune system. Instead of products with white flours or sugars, substitute breads and baked goods made with whole grains and natural sweets such as fruit or fruit juice.

7. Keep active Continue your exercise routine through the winter to stay fit, boost your immune system function, decrease stress and keep your weight down. If you have exercise equipment at home, fitting in a 45 minute work out three to five times a week should not be a problem. Otherwise, invest in some fitness DVDs, a gym membership or bundle up and go outside for a winter walk. For those of us on a busy schedule, fitting it all in can seem difficult. I recommend waking up an hour earlier during the week and maximizing weekend workouts. Your nutrition, exercise and supplement regime can help to boost immune system function and keep you healthy and strong this winter. Wishing you a wonderful winter season!

of Pumpkins E as well as Zinc present in pumpkin, make it a great choice for those who want a healthy and glowing skin. Have a cup of pumpkin seeds per day to prevent appearance of wrinkles and to keep your skin hydrated and nourished. Prevents Kidney Stones: Have 5 to 10 grams of pumpkin seeds every day. This stimulates the kidneys and prevents the formation of calcium oxalate stones. Depression: Pumpkin flesh contains L-tryptophan, a chemical com-

The Bougainvillea with no frosts. Actually, in botanical terms, the flowers are not flowers but called bracts. The bracts surround the true flower which is very small, white and quite insignificant.

This plant is named in honour of the eighteenth century military explorer Louis An toine de Bougainville. He discovered the plant in Brazil and brought it to Europe. Traditionally a climbing plant which can grow up to seven metres it can also be pruned to grow as a bush. It maintains it leaves throughout the year unless grown in very cold regions.

The Bougainvillea is used in various ways: • To cover walls, pergolas, fences, lattice work etc • As an ornamental bush in the garden or in pot • As a shade for a terrace or patio • As a bonsai specimen

summer and spring. If, at times, the leaves begin to yellow administer one carat iron and the problem is solved. Pruning should take place in winter. Cut the outside shoots that have sprouted new ones leaving approximately five centimetres of growth from the main trunk.

This plant can easily survive in poor soil with no watering and no plant food but will be damaged by the cold or too much water.

Its bright coloured flowers are spectacular and are constantly on display if the climate is warm

The Mediterranean coast offers the ideal climate although if the plant is in a pot it should be watered two or three times a week in summer and only occasionally in winter. If the plant is in the garden watering once a week or less is sufficient. It is important to make sure that ground drains well so that no puddles are left. Fertilizer can be given every fifteen days in

Bougainvillea can be plagued by the cotton wood louse which produces a sticky black liquid on the leaves. It is quite expensive to cure as a special insecticide has to be applied constantly during the course of few weeks.

GoodRead Readers Reviews

by John Connolly

In the depths of the Maine woods, the wreckage of an aeroplane is discovered. There are no bodies, and no such plane has ever been reported missing, but men both good and evil have been seeking it for a long, long time. What the wreckage conceals is more important than money: it is power. Hidden in the plane is a list of names, a record of those who have struck a deal with the Devil. Now a battle is about to commence between those who want the list to remain se-

cret and those who believe that it represents a crucial weapon in the struggle against the forces of darkness. The race to secure the prize draws in private detective Charlie Parker, a man who knows more than most about the nature of the terrible evil that seeks to impose itself on the world, and who fears that his own name may be on the list.

The Rose Petal Beach Every love story has a dangerous twist. Tamia Brenett is horrified when her husband, Scott, is accused of something terrible - but when she discovers who his accuser is, everything goes into freefall. Backed into a corner and unsure what to think, Tamia is forced to choose who she instinctively believes. But Tamia's choice has dire consequences for all con-

by Brent Weeks Worst of all, the old gods are being reborn, and their army of color wights is unstoppable. The only salvation may be the brother whose freedom and life Gavin stole sixteen years ago.

“Once again, Connolly has not let us down. His poetic writting erupts from start to finish and leaves us burning for more. I eagerly look forward to his next alluring works.” “I didn't want it to end! The man is a genius!!” “I liked it and read it straight through (as I usually do with Connolly's books as I can't stop reading once I get started on them)”

GoodRead Readers Reviews “Brilliant - riveting story about the frailties of our relationships with one another and more importantly - our own self. Could not put this down - did he or didn't he?” “As always, not disappointed with Dorothy Koomson's latest book. kept me guessing throughout the entire story and at no point did I guess the conclusion. Fantastic read.”

GoodRead Readers Reviews “Val McDermid has written a number of clever psychological novels with characters that are memorable, so much so, that she could be used as an example of what fine writing is, in literary courses. This story should be included in that group.” “Val McDermid once more has crafted a nail-biting, intricate plot to keep the reader guessing up to the final page.”

GoodRead Readers Reviews “Number two in the serives. Interesting, A fast read, but since it doesn't come to any ending - I need Brent Weeks to hurry up and begin the next volume.” “Good story, reasonably original and very entertaining. Only problem I have is that I finished it and now I have to wait forever for the next book”

Barcelona

by Sally Bengtsson

re tu l u C n a it l o p m o m os C Catalonian Captial of

Wondering along the streets of Barcelona is an unforgettable experience. The cosmopolitan atmospehere gives the visitor plenty to watch, whether it be from the comfort of an outdoor cafe, the steps of one of its many gothic churches or from an ornate seat designed by Gaudi. Sagrada The residents may speak Catalan but they are the friendliest and most polite Spaniards I have met, and are always ready to make visitors feel welcome. At just five hours away from Alicante by car or Familia train it is an ideal trip for a long weekend, offering culture and fun, great food and plenty of options for nights out.

Barcelona is the 16th-most-visited city in the world and the fourth most visited in Europe after Paris, London, and Rome, with several million tourists every year. This internationally renowned destination, with numerous recreational areas, also has one of the best beaches in the world, a mild and warm climate and historical monuments, including eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites. And because of everything it to offer, it has three times more tourist visits a year than there are residents. Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain, after Madrid, with a population of 1,621,537. Founded as a Roman city, after merging with the Kingdom of Aragon, Barcelona became one of the most important cities of the Crown of Aragon. Particularly renowned are the architectural works of Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Domènech i Montaner, which have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The city is known for hosting the 1992 Summer Olympics as well as world-class conferences and expositions and also many international sport tournaments. In the 18th century, a fortress was built at Montjuïc that overlooked the harbour. In 1794, this fortress was used by the French astronomer Pierre François André Méchain for observations relating to a survey stretching to Dunkirk that provided the official basis of the measurement of a metre. The Napoleonic wars left the province ravaged, but the postwar period saw the start of industrialization. The city was a Republican stronghold during the Spanish Civil War, and the fall of the city on the 26th January 1939 caused a mass exodus of civilians who fled to the French border. The resistance of Barcelona to Franco's coup d'état was to have lasting effects after the defeat of the Republican government. The autonomous institutions of Catalonia were abolished, and the use of the Catalan language in public life was suppressed. Barcelona remained the second largest city in Spain, at the heart of a region which was relatively industrialised and prosperous, despite the devastation of the civil war. The result was large-scale immigration from poorer regions of Spain (particularly Andalusia, Murcia and Galicia), which in turn led to rapid urbanisation.

La Rambla

The Barri Gòtic (Catalan for "Gothic Quarter") is the centre of the old city of Barcelona. Many of the buildings date from medieval times, some from as far back as the Roman settlement of Barcelona. Catalan modernista architecture (related to the movement known as Art Nouveau in the rest of Europe), developed between 1885 and 1950 and left an important legacy in Barcelona. Several of these buildings are World Heritage Sites. Especially remarkable is the work of architect Antoni Gaudí, which can be seen throughout the city. His best-known work is the immense but still unfinished church of the Sagrada Família, which has been under construction since 1882, and is still financed by private donations. As of 2007, completion is planned for 2026.

Here are some ideas of some great things to do in Barcelona: 1. Take an amble down La Rambla One of the most famous boulevards in the world, La Rambla is worth a stroll down even if you only have one day in Barcelona. A gateway to rural Catalonia, the mile-long road bustles with tourists, artists, human statues, fortune-tellers, dancers and musicians. Vibrant flower stalls, a cultural and exhibition centre, the superb La Boqueria market, a Joan Miró mosaic, newspaper kiosks and cafés line the street. You may pay a fortune to sip a cola at a roadside café but the people-watching opportunities will be worth the price. 2. Get up close to Gaudí's grand designs In Barcelona, you can gaze in wonder at Gaudí's fairytale architecture. The Sagrada Familia is both breathtaking and intricate. At first glance, it seems as though a careless giant has dripped melting wax over a Gothic cathedral, but a closer look reveals that the protuberances create a stone tapestry of Christ's life. Take the lift to the top for a breathtaking view. Park Güell is a magical place that emulates an English garden city. 3. Picture the city of Picasso's youth Picasso remembered Barcelona as beautiful and bright, a city where he spent his early years. Follow in the footsteps of the artistic genius by visiting the landmarks that shaped his youth. Stroll along the Calle Reina Christina and then cross over to 3 Carrer de la Mercè to see where his family lived, though the building was later destroyed. For a break, stop by the Els Quatre Gats, a café frequented by Catalonia's fin-de-siècle avant-garde. Then, head straight to the Museu Picasso, a gallery that records Picasso's formative years. 4. Pick up a platter at a pintxo bar Picking on pintxos, platters of bite-sized food served on a slice of bread (a Basque version of tapas), is a popular culinary trend in Barcelona. Tradition calls for you to pick at the food with toothpicks, and at the end of the night you will be charged for the number of toothpicks that you have used. 5. Climb up the magical Montjuïic Montjuïic is perfect for a leafy stroll with great views, but because it is hard to reach it is less populated by tourists. Scattered across the landward side are buildings from the 1992 Olympic Games, including Santiago Calatrava's Olympic needle, while facing the sea is the lighthouse and vast cemetery. Energetic visitors can climb to the top of the hill, which is just a short distance from the Olympic stadium and Jardi

Botànic. The Plaça Espanya provides the most popular access to the park. 6. Walk on the arty side In Barcelona, a walk in the park is not just a relaxing experience but an artistic journey as well. Stroll round the leafy gardens of the Teatre Grec and then head to the Fundació Joan Miró, one of the greatest museums in the world. It's home to a collection of over 225 paintings, 150 sculptures and graphic pieces by the Spanish surrealist artist, along with a number of works by his contemporaries. Wander over to the Jardins Laribal, meticulously designed by the French landscape artist Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier. 8. Revel in the Raval Like Paris, Barcelona has a literary flavour. In this city, many writers have been inspired by the lower Raval, generally referred to as the Barrio Chino, a name coined by an American journalist due to its underworld feel in the 1920s. Haunted by drifters and prostitutes, the seedy ghetto forms a strangely glamorous setting for Jean Genet's existential novel The Thief's Journal (1949) and provides the backdrop for the civil war novel The Palace (1962) by Nobel prize-winner Claude Simon and The Margin by André Pieyre de Mandiargues (1967), which was made into a film. For a bite of tapas, visit Els Tres Tombs, a favourite with the Sunday book market scavengers. You can browse through books at the cosy bar of Café de les Delicies and catch a poetry reading at The Quiet Man. 9. Discover your sweet tooth Barcelona is the perfect place to indulge in sweet treats. You'll be spoilt for choice with its selection of confectionery shops. For posh chocolates in fancy packaging, head to Escribà; and for cooked candy visit Papabubble, where you can see the sweets being rolled in front of your eyes. If you're over in Spain during the winter and fancy a hot chocolate, stop by the milk bar La Granja. Handsomely fitted with antiques, it serves thick and frothy cocoa, which will warm you up. 10. Visit the gay heart of the city If Barcelona wanted a gay capital, it would most certainly pick the Eixample, nicknamed Gaixample for the sheer number of stores and clubs that cater to this clientele. The Arena includes four clubs: the cavernous Madre attracts a young crowd with a spacious dance floor and darkroom; Classic is the most light-hearted and kitsch venue, drawing in a mixed crowd with its '80s and '90s pop anthems; Dandy plays vintage chart hits and VIP's retro music goes down well with everyone.

With innovative design and technology throughout, the new Focus ST will be more powerful and surprisingly fuel efficient, raising the bar once again when it comes to handling too. For drivers who want refinement for everyday use but with exhilarating performance on tap, the passion, enthusiasm and expertise of Ford's Global Performance Vehicles group shines through and makes the new Focus ST the most rewarding and obvious choice. In both five door and estate versions, the scintillating Focus ST delivers the same driving attributes that makes all Ford 'Sports Technologies' models stand out amongst the competition. The chassis, engine, sound and comfort of the vehicle are tuned harmoniously to deliver a truly sporty experience with a level of refinement rarely seen in this sector of vehicle. These same attributes will form the genetic code for future models bearing the ST badge. Focus ST is powered by the 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost engine, which offers an uncompromising mix of performance and efficiency. Ford's lightweight, all-aluminum EcoBoost engines provide the power of a larger engine in a fuel-efficient smaller displacement, utilising three key technologies. Compared to the 2.5-litre, 5-cylinder engine in the previous European Focus ST, the new 4-cylinder engine offers increased performance, but its smaller capacity and innovative technology also allow it to be more fuel efficient. Mated to the 2.0-litre engine is a 6-speed manual transmission, which has specially revised gearing to produce the maximum punch from each throw of the gear shift. The iconic Y-shaped spoke design of the previous Focus ST has evolved for the new incarnation. A set of 18-inch alloy wheels carry on the recognised Focus ST style but subtle revisions bring them up-to-date for 2012. ST customers will now have an additional 'Performance Pack' option which offers the wheels in black with a high contrast red finish on the performance brake calipers. New Focus ST will be offered to European customers in three distinct trim options - ST1, ST2 and ST3. ST1 is the standard model, offering the key features like cloth Recaro seats, keyless start, front door scuff plates with ST logo and standard ST rear bench with centre armrest. ST2 builds on this with the addition of partial leather Recaro seats and dual zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control(EATC). For righthand drive markets, ST2 will also include unique ST floor mats, automatic headlamp control, auto-dimming rear view mirror and automatic wipers, features that are standard on left-hand drive ST1 models. ST3 Top Spec increases the features with the inclusion of those exclusive heated leather Recaro seats with 8-way adjustability and pull out cushion, plus the newly developed Recaro rear bench. ST3 customers also benefit from Bi-Xenon headlamps to keep the road ahead in total clarity throughout the night.

For all your home and business computer needs Welcome to this month’s computer article written by Richard from BlueMoon Solutions

Password Managers Nowadays it seems that we have to be “the amazing memory man” to survive in the modern world. Everything we use seems to need at least one set of characters or a password in order to operate or access it! We have pin numbers for bank cards, a pin number for our phones, passwords for our email, Skype, social network accounts not to mention Facebook, our online bank accounts and probably so much more. We all know that its best to use a different password for each thing as we understand that using the same password for everything leaves us open to a world of hurt if we fall foul of hackers, but the fact that we have so many different passwords means that we invariably end up writing them down in some way which is just as bad as having the same password for everything! Well technology is here to help – there are a number of password managers that are able to help your failing memory. They all work on the principal in that they are a secure database of all of your passwords, protected by a single password. I can already hear the critics shouting that by “protecting” all of my passwords with one “master” password makes the whole thing less secure – well I guess it does unless you make the one “master” password very secure; given that you only have to remember one, it should be easier to make it a strong password.

Contact Us

There are loads of different password managers out there, just type a few words into Google to find a whole host of them. What I hope to do here is just to show you a couple that I have used and recommend. KeePass – free – www.keepass.info KeePass is a great tool; as with all of the password managers, it not only provides a central and secure place to keep your important information, it allows you to create groups, so for example you could keep all of your banking passwords in one group, your Internet passwords in another group and so on. It has a built in password generator, so if you are signing up to a new service and wanted to create a new, strong password there and then you could use KeePass to do that for you and at the same time record it so that you have it to hand in the future. KeePass also allows you to customise the information that you store for each password entry, so for example if one record required website address, username and password and another record required bank account number, sort code, bank phone number you could create either entry with its own specific information without a problem. mSecure – approx. 15€ - msevensoftware.com

Msecure is a commercial solution to the problem of storing delicate information and it’s the one that I use mainly because of its advanced features. In addition to the more standard features of many password managers (storing custom password and security information by groups in a secure protected file) it allows you to synchronise that password information to mobile devices (in my case my iPhone). mSeven write versions of their software to work on all of the major operating systems, Windows, Mac, Apple iOS and Android so you should be able to find a version to work with whatever you are using computer wise. You can add information either on your computer or on your mobile device and synchronise between the two either wirelessly, if both computer and mobile phone are on the same network or via Dropbox if they are not. Whether you want to use the free software or the more flexible paid for software, it’s a good idea to keep a record of your passwords; you never know when you might need them. Also don’t forget, both of the password managers we have looked at allow you to make a backup of your list of passwords – remember to do this as losing all of that carefully protected delicate information could be a real disaster!

I hope you have found this useful. Remember that you can see all of our articles on our website at www.bluemoonsolutions.es/articles

You’ve got Barber Visit

Frog Calls Psychic

A man and a little boy entered a barbershop together. After the man received the full treatment - shave, shampoo, manicure, haircut, etc. - he placed the boy in the chair.

Recently, the Psychic Hotline and Psychic Friends Network have launched hotlines for frogs. Here is the story of one frog and his discussing with his psychic.

"I'm goin' to buy a green tie to wear for the parade," he said. "I'll be back in a few minutes."

The frog says, "This is great! Will I meet her at a party, or what?"

A frog telephones the Psychic Hotline and is told, "You are going to meet a beautiful young girl who will want to know everything about you."

"No," says the psychic. "Next term in her biology class."

When the boy's haircut was completed and the man still hadn't returned, the barber said, "Looks like your daddy's forgotten all about you." "That wasn't my daddy," said the boy. "He just walked up, took me by the hand and said, 'Come on, son, we're gonna get a free haircut!'"

What just happened here? A military cargo plane, flying over a populated area, suddenly loses power and starts to nose down. The pilot tries to pull up, but with all their cargo, the plane is too heavy. So he yells to the soldiers in back to throw things out to make the plane lighter. They throw out a pistol. "Throw out more!" shouts the pilot. So they throw out a rifle. "More!" he cries again. They heave out a missile, and the pilot regains control.

A blind man vists the state of Texas.

He pulls out of the dive and lands safely at an airport. They get into a jeep and drive off. Pretty soon they meet a boy on the side of the road who's crying. They ask him why he's crying and he says "A pistol hit me on the head!"

There once was a blind man who decided to visit Texas. When he arrived on the plane, he felt the seats and said, "Wow, these seats are big!" The person next to him answered, "Everything is big in Texas." When he finally arrived in Texas, he decided to visit a bar. Upon arriving in the bar, he ordered a beer and got a mug placed between his hands. He exclaimed, "Wow these mugs are big!" The bartender replied, "Everything is big in Texas." After a couple of beers, the blind man asked the bartender where the bathroom was located. The bartender replied, "Second door to the right." The blind man headed for the bathroom, but accidentally tripped over and skipped the second door. Instead, he entered the third door, which lead to the swimming pool and fell into the pool by accident. Scared to death, the blind man started shouting, "Don't flush, don't flush!"

Doctor: Did you take those pills I gave you to improve your memory?

They drive more and meet another boy who's crying even harder. Again they ask why and the boy says, "A rifle hit me on the head!" They apologize and keep driving. They meet a boy on the sidewalk who's laughing hysterically. They ask him, "Kid, what's so funny?" The boy replies, "I sneezed and a house blew up!"

Good and Bad News

This old man visits his doctor and after a thorough examination, the doctor tells him, "I have good news and bad news, what would you like to hear first?" Patient: Well, give me the bad news first. Doctor: You have cancer, I estimate that you have about two years left. Patient: That's terrible! In two years, my life will be over! What kind of good news could you probably tell me, after this? Doctor: You also have Alzheimer's. In about three months you are going to forget everything I told you.

Something for Christmas

Three men die in a car accident Christmas Eve. They all find themselves at the pearly gates waiting to enter Heaven. On entering they must present something relating or associated with Christmas. The first man searches his pocket, and finds some Mistletoe, so he is allowed in. The second man presents a cracker, so he is also allowed in. The third man pulls out a pair of stockings.

Patient: What pills?

Confused at this last gesture, St. Peter asks, "How do these represent Christmas?" "They're Carol's."

to be joking Reasons why it's great to be a guy Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat.

You don't have to shave below your neck. If you're 34 and single nobody notices.

"And who was it that developed the theories behind communism?" the professor asked.

Everything on your face stays its original color.

"I don't know," the student said.

You know stuff about tanks. A five day holiday requires only one suitcase. Your bathroom lines are 80% shorter.

Chocolate is just another snack. You can open all your own jars. You can be president. Old friends don't annoy you if you've lost or gained weight. Dry cleaners and haircutters don't rob you blind.

A beer gut does not make you invisible to the opposite sex. You don't have to lug a bag of useful stuff around everywhere you go.

Your last name stays put. You can leave a hotel bed unmade.

You never have to worry about other people's feelings. You can wear a white shirt to a water park. Three pair of shoes are more than enough. You can eat a banana in a hardware store. You can say anything and not worry about what people think. You can whip your shirt off on a hot day.

You can kill your own food. The garage is all yours.

You don't have to clean your apartment if the meter reader is coming by.

You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness.

Car mechanics tell you the truth.

You see the humor in Terms of Endearment.

You don't care if someone notices your new haircut.

You never have to clean the toilet.

You can watch a game in silence with your buddy for hours without even thinking: He must be mad at me.

You can be showered and ready in 10 minutes. Wedding plans take care of themselves. Your underwear is $10 for a three pack.

You never misconstrue innocuous statements to mean your lover is about to leave you. You get to jump up and slap stuff.

"Perhaps if you came to class on time, Mr. Reebs, you would know," said the professor. "That's not true," the student replied. "I never pay attention anyway!"

Stupid True Stories Police in Wichita, Kansas, arrested a 22-year-old man at an airport hotel after he tried to pass two (counterfeit) $16 bills. A man in Johannesberg, South Africa, shot his 49-year-old friend in the face, seriously wounding him, while the two practiced shooting beer cans off each other's head. A company trying to continue its five-year perfect safety record showed its workers a film aimed at encouraging the use of safety goggles on the job. According to Industrial Machinery News, the film's depiction of gory industrial accidents was so graphic that twenty-five workers suffered minor injuries in their rush to leave the screening room. Thirteen others fainted, and one man required seven stitches after he cut his head falling off a chair while watching the film. The Chico, California, City Council enacted a ban on nuclear weapons, setting a $500 fine for anyone detonating one within city limits. A bus carrying five passengers was hit by a car in St. Louis, but by the time police arrived on the scene, fourteen pedestrians had boarded the bus and had begun to complain of whiplash injuries and back pain. Swedish business consultant Ulf af Trolle labored 13 years on a book about Swedish economic solutions. He took the 250-page manuscript to be copied, only to have it reduced to 50,000 strips of paper in seconds when a worker confused the copier with the shredder. A convict broke out of jail in Washington D.C., then a few days later accompanied his girlfriend to her trial for robbery. At lunch, he went out for a sandwich. She needed to see him, and thus had him paged. Police officers recognized his name and arrested him as he returned to the courthouse in a car he had stolen over the lunch hour.

LAST MINUTE REQUESTS A man woke up in a hospital bed and called for his doctor. He asked, "Give it to me straight. How long have I got?" The physician replied that he doubted that the man would survive the night. The man then said, "Call for my lawyer." When the lawyer arrived, the man asked for his physician to stand on one side of the bed, while the lawyer stood on the other. The man then laid back and closed his eyes. When he remained silent for several minutes, the physician asked what he had in mind. The man replied "Jesus died with a thief on either side. I just thought I'd check out the same way."
