September Birthstone: Sapphires and How to Care for Them When thinking of the September Birthstone Sapphire, the beautiful blue colour comes to mind. However, sapphires come in all colours of the rainbow except red because then it's a ruby. It is believed sapphire gemstones bring inner peace. Among other properties attributed to the sapphire it is believed to develop psychic powers such as telepathy and is believed to help with depression. In India, it is not unusual to ask pandits, a scholar and a teacher, to help choose which sapphire is suitable for the customer. Sapphires are believed to offer healing for rheumatism, colic, and mental illness. The most valuable color of Sapphire is a cornflower blue color and also known as Kashmir Sapphire. Another extremely valuable Sapphire is the very rare, orange-pink Padparadschah. An exotic type of sapphire, known as “The Colour Changing Sapphire, it displays a different colour depending on its lighting. In natural light the Sapphire is blue, but in artificial light, it is violet. (This effect is the same phenomenon well-known in the gemstone Alexandrite). Yellow and pink Sapphires have recently become very popular, and are now often seen in jewellry. Going way back in time, Sapphires (excluding blue) were often called the same name as a popular gemstone of that colour with the prefix "oriental" added to it. For example, green Sapphire was called "Oriental Emerald". The practice of applying the name of a different gemstone to identify the sapphire was misleading, and these names are no longer used. What was once called "Oriental Emerald" is now called "Green Sapphire". However, the word "Sapphire" in its plain context refers only to blue Sapphire, unless a prefix colour is specified. Sapphire with a color other than blue is often called a "fancy" in the gem trade.

forms from growth layers that build up during the formation of the stone, may also be present in certain Sapphires. Colour zoning is responsible for certain Sapphires having lighter and darker colours in different parts of a crystal. Some Sapphire gemstones may even be multicoloured such as purple and blue. The Sapphire is a tough and durable gem, and the only natural gemstone harder than Sapphire is Diamond. Despite this, Sapphire is still subject to chipping and fracture if handled roughly, and care should be taken to ensure it is properly handled. Sapphire was first synthesized in 1902. The process of creating synthetic Sapphire is known as the Verneuil process. Only experts can distinguish between natural and synthetic Sapphire.

How to Care for Sapphire Because this September birthstone is the second hardest natural mineral, sapphires can be cleaned in almost any way. The best choice is warm, soapy water. Some use ultrasonic cleaners and steamers. Water with a touch of ammonia works well. If your sapphire has a fracture or is a star sapphire, do not use mechanical cleaning methods. Sapphire can shatter with one single blow if hit sharply. Consider mechanical cleaning risky if sapphire gemstones have inclusions because this weakens crystal structure. Avoid heavy work or chemicals while wearing sapphire jewellry as it can damage settings. Store sapphire jewelry separately from softer gemstone jewelry because sapphire can scratch them. Storage in a soft, cloth bag is a wonderful way to protect gemstones.

Sapphires often contain minor inclusions of tiny slender Rutile needles. When present, these inclusions decrease the transparency of a stone and are known as silk. When in dense, parallel groupings, these inclusions can actually be enhanced by allowing polished Sapphires to exhibit asterism. Sapphire gems displaying asterism are known as "Star Sapphire", and these can be highly prized. Star Sapphire exists in six ray stars, though twelve ray stars are also known. A Sapphire is pleochroic when it displays a lighter and more intense color when viewed at different angles. Some pleochroic Sapphires are blue when viewed at one angle, and purple at a different angle. Colour zoning, which

September 2013 Birthstone Jewelry Besides being the September birthstone, sapphires are given on the 5th, 23rd and 45th wedding anniversary. A star sapphire is typically given on the 65th wedding anniversary. Padparadscha is the name of a rare orange-pink variety of sapphire and has a higher value than blue sapphire gemstones. Sapphires are available as birthstone jewellry and are beautiful in gold or platinum settings.

What makes a well-cut sapphire? Sapphires are often a colourless pale, blue but when heated to high temperatures, an intense color results. The heat also improves clarity of sapphire gemstones because tiny inclusions melt. These inclusions can exhibit an optical property called asterism. It causes a star-shaped effect in star sapphires which is usually only seen with cabochon cuts. A personalized cut is crucial to bringing out the unique personality of a sapphire. Unlike diamonds, there are no standard "ideal" cuts for sapphires, as each individual sapphire crystal must be custom cut to help the finished gem display the best colour and brilliance. Since sapphires come in such a broad variety of colours, each with its own unique properties, there are no specific proportion requirements. Because of this lack of standardization, sapphire cuts are generally not graded by gem laboratories. Instead, jewellers set their own standards for cut and focus on the colour of a sapphire to determine quality. A well-cut sapphire will display the colour of the gemstone to its best ability while still enhancing lustre and brilliance. Often, gemstones exhibiting a lighter tone of colour will be cut deeper to add dimension and intensity to the colour. A sapphire of a very dark colour will likely be cut shallower to allow more light to reflect within the gemstone, softening and brightening the colour. Both methods will enhance a sapphire's

unique beauty. Regardless of the shape of the sapphire, the edges should be symmetrical and even. The facets on the top of the gem, the "crown", should be even in size, shape, and location. The largest facet on the top of the crown, known as the table, will be symmetrical in shape and wellcentred. When the sapphire is rocked and tilted, it should produce bright colour flashes as it moves, with no dull spots present.

Step Cut/Emerald Cut Rows of facets are cut parallel to the sapphire’s edge resembling the steps of a staircase. When the corners of the sapphire are clipped, the shape is referred to as an 'emerald' cut. 'Emerald' cuts protect the corners of the sapphire. Brilliant Cut The facets on brilliant cut gems are triangular, kite or lozenge shaped. A brilliant cut sapphire can have a varying number of facets, but when cut like a diamond, it will have 58 facets. This diamond-cut will not make the sapphire "sparkle" as much as other cuts, mostly because of the difference in light refraction and intensity of color between sapphires and diamonds. Mixed Cut The mixed cut combines step and brilliant cut facets and is the most common faceting style for sapphire. The crown is usually brilliant-cut to enhance sparkle. The pavilion is usually step-cut to save weight and enhance the stone's colour. Cabochon Cut Antique jewelry often features cabochon (Kab-a-shon) sapphires, cut in a convex form (domed with a flat base) and highly polished but not faceted. Cabochon cuts are the simplest, and are therefore the least expensive of the sapphire cuts. Other cuts and carvings also exist, but they are less popular.

Moving To Spain

Relocating to Spain is a big decision to make, especially if you have young children. Spain offers a great lifestyle and climate and if you are retired and get a pension then we certainly can recommend moving to Spain. However, the younger you are the more uncertain the possible move can be. Much depends on your career and/or job prospects, your personal skills, character and ability to speak Spanish. The decision to relocate is yours alone. We have all sorts of useful advice and tips for people moving to Spain. Firstly, you should visit the place that you wish to relocate to at various times of the year to see if you will really like to live there on a permanent basis. When you have found the right location, the next thing to do is to find a long term rental property there. This way you get to test the waters without a huge financial commitment. A long term rental (depending on type and size of property) will cost you on average 4,800 euro for the year. Once you have decided the location that is right, you can then decide what to do with regards to renting or purchasing; what to do with your property in the UK, sell or rent it out to receive an income. Beware of signing a rental contract without having it read and checked out by us before signing it. You will need to open a bank account in your name, to have utility bills such as water, electric, telephone and internet paid from. Now you have found your new home in the sun, you need to organise a removal company to bring your possessions over. If you have children, don’t forget to check out the schools that are in your area and the process for registering them at the school. If you´re coming to Spain with a view to look for work once you´re here, our best advice is “Don’t”. Do your homework from the UK. Look and find a job before you come. Fly out for interviews (if you can) and then fly back home to pack your stuff if you get the job! Or at the very least, make some contacts and arrangements before you come. As we mention above about signing rental contracts, the same applies with jobs. Make sure you understand the conditions being offered and the implications before signing an employment contract.

Below is a list of questions and/or things you should ask yourself and have the answers to: • You will need to find out how to transfer your UK pension or funds to Spain with as little costs as possible • You will need to know what medical care you and your family are entitled to in the Spanish system.

• If you are a pensioner how to get your SIP card? • If you are not a pensioner, how to get your SIP card? • Do you know what your tax status will be in Spain, will you be a permanent resident or a fiscal resident? • How do you obtain an NIE number and where to get one, or should you have a residencia? • Does the property you have rented receive post regularly? If not, how to overcome this problem. • Where do you go to socialise and make new friends? How can you learn Spanish? • Which is the best area in Spain to live? Where should I live in Spain? • What is it like to live in Spain? • What do English people miss about the UK when living in Spain? • What is Spain like for entrepreneurs? • Do I need a will? • Will the landlord provide house insurance on our rental property? Do I need separate house insurance? We want to make it clear straight away why we haven’t put any answers to all of the above questions. The reason is that EVERY personal situation is different in some way. For us to write generalised answers would be right and wrong information for different people. We at Professional Business Support have over 26 years experience of living and working on the Costa Blanca, and have the answers to all of the above questions. We aim to make settling and living in Spain as easy and as simple as it can possibly be – there will always be teething problems but hopefully not anything too drastic. Many people are asking us – should we move to Spain now? Obviously economic times are bad all around the world, but many people successfully live and work in Spain so clearly it is possible – just harder than it was before. So, is Spain for you? Do you need advice on how to move forward with one of the biggest decisions of your life? Would you like a “How to” package designed specifically for you? We can do this for you once we learn from you more details about your individual circumstances. Many people just turn up and live here, getting advice from random people that they may meet, but is it the right advice for you, your family, your circumstances in specific? At the foot of the Bavaria Statue, adjacent to the Huge Oktoberfest grounds there are also carousels, roller coasters and all the spectacular fun for the enjoyment and excitement of visitors of all ages. The festivities are accompanied by a program of events, including the Grand Entry of the Oktoberfest Landlords and Breweries, the Costume and Riflemen's Procession, and a concert involving all the brass bands represented at the "Wiesn".

The Oktoberfest is the largest beer festival in the world and one of the best festivals in Germany, held annually on the last week in Septmeber and first week in October. Each year more than 6 million visitors from around the world leave their activities and are directed to Munich to drink a lot of beer, eat sausage and pass a unique way. The Oktoberfest is famous for its huge beer jars full of heavy containers, but there's more to the festival of Bavaria; like enjoying the local bands, admiring traditional costumes, enjoying homemade food and receiving a good portion of the peculiar German hospitality.

The Oktoberfest celebrated its 200th Anniversery in 2010, only Wars and cholera epidemics have briefly interrupted the yearly beer celebration. Due to the First World War was not held between 1914 and 1918. At the beginning of the interwar period , in 1919 and 1920, there was a festival which was called Fall Festival. Because of the rampant inflation that was suffering, there was no Oktoberbest in 1923 or 1924.

It began with the Royal Wedding on 12 October 1810. Crown Prince Ludwig, later to become King Ludwig I, was married to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on 12 October 1810. The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the festivities held on the fields in front of the city gates to celebrate the happy royal event. The fields were renamed Theresienwiese ("Theres'a Fields") to honour the Crown Princess, although the locals have since abbreviated the name simply to "Wiesn". Horse races in the presence of the royal family marked the close of the event that was celebrated as a festival for the whole of Bavaria. The decision to repeat the horse races in subsequent years gave rise to the tradition of Oktoberfest. In 1811, an added feature to the horse races was the first Agricultural Show, designed to boost Bavarian agriculture. The horse races, which were the oldest - and at one time - the most popular event of the festival are no longer held today. But the Agricultural Show is still held every three years during the Oktoberfest on the southern part of the festival grounds. In the first few decades, the choices of amusements were sparse. In 1818, the first carousel and two swings were set up. Visitors were able to quench their thirst at small beer stands, which grew rapidly in number. In 1896 the beer stands were replaced by the first beer tents and halls set up by the enterprising landlords with the backing of the breweries. The remainder of the festival site was taken up by a fun-fair. The range of carousels offered was alr e a d y increasing rapidly in the 1870's as the fairground trade continued to grow and develope in Germany. Today, the Oktoberfest in Munich is the largest festival in the world, with an international flavour characteristic of the 21st century.

Finding the right formula to stay healthy over 50 Staying healthy and feeling your best is important at any age and that doesn’t change just because you have a few more grey hairs. As we grow older, we experience an increasing number of major life changes, including career changes and retirement, children leaving home, the loss of loved ones, and physical changes. How we handle and grow from these changes is the key to staying healthy. These tips can help you maintain your physical and emotional health and live life to the fullest, whatever your age.

changing needs. Now, more than ever, healthy eating is important to maintain your energy and health. Load up on high-fibre fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Your whole digestive system does slow as you age, so fibre is very important. Consume fibre-rich foods such as whole grains, fruit, and vegetables. They will help you feel more energetic and give you fuel to keep going. Put effort into making your food look and taste good. Your taste buds may not be as strong and your appetite may not be the same, but your nutritional needs are just as important as ever. If you don’t enjoy eating like you used to, put a little more effort into your meals, including the way you flavour, prepare, and present your food.

Don’t fall for the myth that growing older automatically means you’re not going to feel good anymore. It is true that aging involves physical changes, but it doesn’t have to mean discomfort and disability. While not all illness or pain is avoidable, many of the physical challenges associated with aging can be overcome or drastically mitigated by eating right, exercising, and taking care of yourself. It’s never too late to start! No matter how old you are or how unhealthy you’ve been in the past, caring for your body has enormous benefits that will help you stay active, sharpen your memory, boost your immune system, manage health problems, and increase your energy. In fact, many older adults report feeling better than ever because they are making more of an effort to be healthy than they did when they were younger. Tips for eating well as you age As you age, your relationship to food may change along with your body. A decreased metabolism, changes in taste and smell, and slower digestion may affect your appetite, the foods you can eat, and how your body processes food. The key is to figure out how to adapt to your

Watch out for dehydration. Because of physical changes, older adults are more prone to dehydration. So make sure you are drinking plenty of fluid, even if you don’t feel thirsty. If you’re not getting enough water, you’re not going to be as sharp and your energy will suffer. Make meals a social event. It’s more enjoyable to eat with others than alone. If you live alone, invite other people over. It’s a great way to stay in touch with friends and you can share cooking and cleanup duties. Tips for exercising as you age Many adults don’t exercise as they get older. However, exercise is vital for staying healthy throughout life. It helps you maintain your strength and agility, gives your mental health a boost, and can even help diminish chronic pain. Whether you are generally healthy or are coping with an ongoing injury, disability, or health problem, regular exercise will help

Health Benefits

Green beans have the same nutritional benefits as other common beans such as lima beans, mung beans, kidney beans, pinto beans, and navy beans.

Common beans are low in fat and offer an excellent source of protein, fiber, and complex carbohydrates. They are also a

very good source of folic acid and molybdenum. They provide significant amounts of iron, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, and potassium.

The major health benefit of common beans is their ability to lower cholesterol due to their rich source of fibre. Studies have shown that the high fibre

contained in beans prevents blood sugar levels form rising too rapidly after a meal. This makes beans an especially good choice for individuals with diabetes, insulin resistance, or hypoglycemia.

September 2013 you stay physically and mentally healthy and improve your confidence and outlook on life.

Try variations on what you know. For some people, it might be games. Other people may enjoy puzzles or trying out new cooking recipes. Find something that you enjoy and continue to try new variations and challenges. If you like crosswords, move to a more challenging crossword series or try your hand at a new word game. If you like to cook, try a completely different type of food, or try baking if you’ve mostly been cooking over the stove.

Check with your doctor before starting any exercise program. Find out if any health conditions or medications you take affect what exercise you should choose. Find an activity you like and that motivates you to continue. You may want to exercise in a group, like in a sport or class, or prefer a more individual exercise like swimming.

Work something new in each day. You don’t have to work elaborate crosswords or puzzles to keep your memory sharp. Try to work in something new each day, whether it is taking a different route to work or the grocery store or brushing your teeth with a different hand.

Start slow. If you are new to exercise, a few minutes a day puts you well on the way towards building a healthy habit. Slowly increase the time and intensity to avoid injury.

Take on a completely new subject. Taking on a new subject is a great way to continue to learn. Have you always wanted to learn a different language? Learn new computer skills? Learn to play golf? There are many inexpensive classes at community centres or community colleges that allow you to tackle new subjects. Volunteering is also a great way to learn about a new area. Taking classes and volunteering is a great way to boost social connections, which is another brain strengthener.

Walking is a wonderful way to start exercising. Exercise doesn’t have to mean strenuous activity or time at the gym. In fact, walking is one of the best ways to stay fit. Best of all, it doesn’t require any equipment or experience and you can do it anywhere. Tips for sleeping well Many adults complain of sleep problems as they age, including insomnia, daytime sleepiness, and frequent waking during the night. But getting older doesn’t automatically bring sleep problems. Poor sleep habits are often the main causes of low–quality sleep in adults over 50.

Tips for staying connected One of the greatest challenges of aging is how your support network changes. Staying connected isn’t always easy as you grow older, even for those who have always had an active social life. Career changes, retirement, illness, death, and moves out of the local area can take away close friends and family members.

Naturally boost your melatonin levels at night. Artificial lights at night can suppress your body’s production of melatonin, the hormone that makes you sleepy. Use lowwattage bulbs where safe to do so, and turn off the TV and computer at least one hour before bed.

It’s important to find ways to reach out and connect to others, regardless of whether or not you live with a spouse or partner. Having an array of people you can turn to for company and support as you age is a buffer against loneliness, depression, disability, hardship, and loss.

Make sure your bedroom is quiet, dark, and cool, and your bed is comfortable. Noise, light, and heat can interfere with sleep. Try using an eye mask to help block out light.

The good news is that there are lots of ways to be with other people. It doesn’t matter what you do, so long as you get out of the house and socialize: Connect regularly with friends and family. Spend time with people you enjoy and who make you feel upbeat. It may be a neighbour who you like to exercise with, a lunch date with an old friend, or shopping with your children. Even if you are not close by, call or email frequently to keep relationships fresh.

Develop bedtime rituals. A soothing ritual, like taking a bath or playing music will help you wind down. Go to bed earlier. Adjust your bedtime to match when you feel tired, even if that’s earlier than it used to be.

Make an effort to make new friends. As you lose people in your circle, it is vital to make new connections so your circle doesn’t dwindle. Make it a point to befriend people who are younger than you. Younger friends can reenergize you and help you see life from a fresh perspective.

Tips for keeping your mind sharp There are many good reasons for keeping your brain as active as your body. Keeping your brain active and maintaining creativity actually may help to prevent cognitive decline and memory problems. The more you use and sharpen your brain, the more benefits you will get. This is especially true if your career no longer challenges you or if you've retired from work altogether.

Spend time with at least one person every day. Whatever your living or work situation, you shouldn’t be alone day after day. Phone or email contact is not a replacement for spending time with other people. Regular face-to-face contact helps you ward off depression and stay positive.

of Green Beans These elevated blood levels are found in 20 to 40 percent of patients with heart disease. Research has indicated that beans are also protective against cancer.

Green beans are among a small number of foods that contain measurable amounts of oxalates,

naturally-occurring substances found in plants, animals, and human beings. When oxalates become too concentrated in body fluids, they can crystallize and cause health problems. For this reason, individuals with already existing and untreated kidney or gallbladder problems may want to avoid eating green beans.

HOW CLOSE IS TOO CLOSE?

There are plenty of depictions of people-friendly orcas, such as the movie "Free Willy" and SeaWorld's Shamu. So what did the orca do to get this frightening name? If you've ever seen the 1970s movie "Orca, the Killer Whale" starring Richard Harris and Bo Derek, you may already have an idea. Similar to what "Jaws" did for sharks, this thriller poised orca as vindictive, bloodthirsty savages. Dead-set on hunting down the humans responsible for the death of his mate, an angry orca gobbles up each person, one by one. According to the movie, next to humans, orcas are the only animals that kill for revenge. Killer whales are powerful predators capable of killing prey much larger than humans, such as leopard seals and great white sharks. They have also been recorded preying on usually terrestrial species such as moose swimming between islands. However, wild orcas are not considered a real threat to humans, as there are few documented cases of wild orcas attacking people, and none of the recorded attacks have been fatal. There have been about two dozen cases of orcas attacking humans since the 1970s, almost exclusively perpetrated by captive animals. Experts are divided as to whether the injuries and deaths caused by captive killer whales have been accidents or deliberate attempts to cause harm. For centuries, orcas have instilled fear in the hearts of mankind. In all their ferociousness, they've been dubbed wolves of the sea, whale killers, killing demons and fish tigers, to name a few. Their scientific name, Orcinus orca, comes from the mythical Orcus, the Roman god of death and the underworld, who was also known as a punisher. In North America, the indigenous Haida call them skana, which is a killer demon. The Aleut people call them polossatik, which means "feared one". Even without rampaging quests for vengeance, orcas are memorable. It's hard to miss their distinctive black-and-white markings, especially the white, oval-shaped patch located near each eye. Pound for pound, a human is no match for a killer whale, since this big beast grows up to 32 feet long (9.75 meters) and 12,000 lbs. (5,443 kilograms). That's roughly 600 times the size of a grown man. And, of course, isolated attacks by captive killer whales on their trainers make even the most apparently tame seem a little more dangerous.

Since 1968 there have been 36 recorded incidents of killer whales attacking their trainers out of those 36 attacks 4 have been fatal: • On February 20, 1991, the three orcas that resided at Sealand of the Pacific in Victoria, British Columbia (Haida II, Nootka IV, and Tilikum) killed a young part-time trainer named Keltie Byrne when she accidentally slipped and fell into the tank. This facility did not allow the trainers to get in the water with the animals so the orcas were not accustomed to having people in their tank. It is unclear which orca initiated the assault but what is known is that one of the whales grabbed the trainer by the foot and dragged her deeper into the pool, the other two quickly joined in, pushing and throwing the young woman around the pool. • July 5, 1999, at SeaWorld Orlando Florida, a deceased man by the name of Daniel Dukes was found nude and in one of the orca tanks draped across the back of the park's largest male orca, Tilikum. This was one of the three Orcas involved in the death of Sealand trainer Keltie Byrne in 1991. An autopsy revealed that the man died of a combination of hypothermia and drowning. Dukes was covered in bruises, abrasions and bite marks, indicating that Tilikum had clear contact with the victim but whether or not Tilikum actually caused the man's death could not be determined. Dukes had apparently hidden himself in the park until after closing and then jumped or fell into the orca's tank. It is thought that Dukes may have been mentally unstable or under the influence of drugs. Dukes had been reported by Seaworld staff to have "dived" with other sea mammals, earlier that year he had to be removed from the manatee tank, which is warmer and host much more docile creatures. It’s beleived that from how the man was found, draped across Tilikums back, that maybe the whale was attempting to save the man from drowning. • On December 24, 2009, 29-year-old Alexis Martínez died during a rehearsal for a Christmas Day show at the Loro Parque Park in Tenerife. The 14-year-old male orca, Keto, who was born at SeaWorld Orlando Florida, reportedly rammed Martínez in the chest, rendering him unconscious. Martinez supposedly drowned before fellow trainers could rescue him. The autopsy report revealed that Alexis died due to the serious injuries he sustained from the orca attack, including mul-

of her home. No one knew if the move would hurt the whale or her chances for reintegrating back into the pod and one day becoming a healthy mother. Springer, nicknamed "Little Orca Annie" by the press, made big news when she was found hanging around the waters off Seattle in January 2002. The Seattle Times described the lone whale as having "bad skin, worms in her stool and bad breath." Not only was her health poor, but so were her social skills. She was very lonely, these are very social animals, and so she started interacting with bits of driftwood and boats and became quite fixated on them.

• On February 24, 2010, the orca Tilikum killed Dawn Brancheau, an experienced trainer, at the end of a "Dine with Shamu" show at SeaWorld Orlando. SeaWorld officials confirmed that Tilikum grabbed Dawn Brancheau by her ponytail and pulled her into the water, drowning her. The autopsy determined that the trainer died of "multiple traumatic injuries and drowning". Tilikums Story Tilikum is reportidly responsible for 3 out of the 4 fatalities involving trainers and the killer whales, since the last attack in 2010 Tilikum returned to performing on March 30, 2011. The trainers have continued their policy of doing no water work with the whale. High pressure water hoses are used to massage him, rather than hands, and removable guardrails have also begun to be used on the platforms. There are plans to install false-bottom floors that can lift trainers and whales out of the pools in under a minute. Despite claims that Tilikum is kept alone and separated from the remaining whales, he has been paired with his grandson Trua, and can be often seen performing alongside him during the finale of the new "One Ocean" Show. He has on occasion been kept with his daughter Malia, or both Trua and Malia at the same time. In December 2011, he was put on hiatus from the shows following an undisclosed illness. He resumed performing in the spring of 2012.

After being nursed back to health inside an ocean enclosure at a government research station in Manchester, Washington, Springer was transported in July 2002 via a high-speed catamaran back to her native waters, where she spent a day in a floating net pen before being released back to her pod. Successfully mating and having a calf in the population means that she's fully accepted and part of the social dynamics of the population. It gives hope that if such an event happens in the future, provided that all the right bits are in place, that is, knowing who the animal is and what group it comes from, that these kinds of efforts can be successful.

Tilikum was captured in Berufjörður off the east coast of Iceland in November 1983 at about three years of age. A male (Nandú) and a female (Samoa) were captured with him. Tilikum was first sent to live at Sealand of the Pacific, British Columbia, Canada. There, he lived with two older females named Haida II and Nootka IV. Tilikum was at the bottom of the social structure, and Haida II and Nootka IV would often chase him into the medical pool. Sealand of the Pacific utilized food motivation as part of their training methods, meaning the whales were fed when they responded in a desired fashion to commands The three whales' pen was separated from the ocean by a net; the owner of Sealand of the Pacific, Bob Wright, worried that at night the whales might chew through the net, or an activist might cut it to free them. Thus, at night, the whales were moved to a holding module 20 feet (6.1 m) deep and 28 feet (8.5 m) in diameter. Tilikum measures 22.5 feet (6.9 m) long and weighs 12,000 pounds (5,400 kg). His pectoral fins are 7 feet (2.1 m) long, his flukes curl under, and his 6.5 feet (2.0 m)-tall dorsal fin is collapsed completely to his left side. He is the largest orca in captivity. Tilikum's vocals are higher than other males his size. But its not all bad news when it comes to captive killer whales the only killer whale known to be put back into the wild after human intervention was spotted with her first baby in July this year. In 2002, a young killer whale named Springer was reintroduced to her pod in northern Vancouver Island, Canada, after she was found orphaned, about 300 miles (480 kilometers) south

Summoned to Japan by an old acquaintance, Wolverine becomes embroiled in a conflict that forces him to confront his own demons.

Action | Adventure | Fantasy Release date: OUT NOW! Critics Reviews Digital Spy: “X-Men aficionados will no doubt get a kick out of this attempt to deeper explore Logan's psyche, but you suspect it won't generate much enthusiasm from Joe Popcorns expecting big-scale spectacle. It feels like there's a great film buried somewhere inside The Wolverine, it's just a shame that Takashi Miike wasn't behind the camera to help make it a reality. As it stands this is an interesting if flawed exploration of the X-Men universe's favourite son.

Readers Reviews by Adam S. Leslie

Peter Tobey lives an idyllic existence of energy drinks, mindless television sitcoms, phobia-induced hypersensitivity – and shopping. Into his world comes Kaleidoscope, a sinister and addictive sitcom which turns bright, happy shoppers into lethargic drones. Peter realises that he and his small group of friends must make the ultimate sacrifice: end Kaleidoscope, flee

Kaleidoscope is a pulsating, kaleidoscopic blend of magical realism, dystopian fantasy-adventure, satire, trash culture, science fiction, postmodern horror, and the childhood fever in which you and your family have been trapped for the last thirty years.

“Dystopian fiction isn't normally my preferred genre, but I really enjoyed this book. It was thrilling, keeping me reading for hours on end. Well done Mr Leslie. ” “I loved reading this book but it did leave me slightly concerned as to what's actually going on in the head of the author! Whatever it is, keep it up I guess if it helps you to write books like this! (It also made me feel guilty for watching too much tv)”

g n i r g r u b r ü N The The Nürburgring is a motorsports complex around the village of Nürburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is located about 70 km south of Cologne, and 120 km northwest of Frankfurt. It features a Grand Prix race track built in 1984, and a much longer old "North loop" track which was built in the 1920s around the village and medieval castle of Nürburg in the Eifel mountains. The north loop is 20.8 km long and has more than 300 meters of elevation change from its lowest to highest points. Jackie Stewart nicknamed the old track "The Green Hell," and it is widely considered to be the most demanding and difficult purpose-built racing circuit in the world. Originally, the track featured four configurations: the 28.265 km-long Gesamtstrecke ("Whole Course"), which in turn consisted of the 22.810 km Nordschleife ("North Loop"), and the 7.747 km Südschleife ("South Loop"). There also was a 2.281 km warm-up loop called Zielschleife ("Finish Loop") or Betonschleife ("Concrete Loop"), around the pit area. One of the original purposes of the Nordschleife was as a test track for auto manufacturers, and its demanding layout had been traditionally used as a proving ground. Weekdays are often booked for so-called Industriefahrten for auto makers and the media. With the advent of the Internet, awareness of the Nordschleife has risen in Germany and abroad, in addition to publicity in print media. In 1999, Porsche reported that their new 996 GT3 had lapped the 'Ring in under eight minutes, and in subsequent years, manufacturers from overseas also showed up to test cars. Some high-performance models are promoted with videotaped laps published on the web, and the claimed lap times are generating discussion. Few of these supercars are actually entered in racing where the claims could be backed up. Since its opening in 1927, the track has been used by the public for the so-called "Touristenfahrten," i.e. anyone with a road-legal car or motorcycle, as well as tour buses, motor homes, or cars with trailers. It is opened mainly on Sundays, but also many Saturdays and weekday evenings. The track may be closed for weeks during the winter months, depending on weather conditions and maintenance work. Passing on the right is prohibited, and some sections have speed limits. This Nürburgring is a popular attraction for many driving enthusiasts and riders from all over the world, partly because of its history and the challenge it provides. The lack of oncoming traffic and intersections sets it apart from regular roads, and the absence of a blanket speed limit is a further attraction. Normal ticket buyers on these tourist days cannot quite complete a full lap of the 20.8 km Nordschleife, which bypasses the modern GP-Strecke, as they are required to slow down and pass through a 200-metre "pit lane" section where the toll gates are installed. On busier days, a mobile ticket barrier is installed on the main straight in order to reduce the length of queues at the fixed barriers. This is open to all ticket holders. On rare occasions, it is possible to drive both the Nordschleife and the Grand Prix circuit combined. Drivers interested in lap times often time themselves from the first bridge after the barriers to the last gantry (aka Bridge-to-Gantry or BTG time)

September 2013 before the exit. In the event of an accident, the local police are known to make note of any timing devices present (stopwatches, etc.) in the police report, The driver's insurance coverage may consequently be voided, leaving the driver fully liable for damage. Normal, non-racing, non-timed driving accidents should be covered by driver's insurance, but it is increasingly common for insurers especially to insert exclusion clauses that mean drivers and riders on the Nürburgring have third-party coverage only or none at all. Top Gear has used the Nordschleife for its challenges, often involving Sabine Schmitz. In addition, during series 17 (summer 2011) of Top Gear, James May was very critical of the ride quality of cars whose development processes included testing on the Nordschleife, saying that cars which were tested at Nordschleife got ruined. Other pastimes are hosted at the 'Ring, such as the "Rock am Ring", Germany's biggest rock festival, attracting close to 100,000 rock fans each year since 1985. Since 1978, the Nordschleife is also the venue of a major running event (NürburgringLauf/Run am Ring). In 2003, a major cycling event (Rad am Ring) was added and it became the multi-sports event Rad & Run am Ring.

In 2009, new commercial areas opened, including a hotel and shopping mall. In the summer of 2009, ETF Ride Systems opened a new interactive dark ride application called "Motor Mania" at the racetrack, in collaboration with Lagotronics B.V. The roller coaster "ring racer" was scheduled to open in 2011 but never started its operations due to technical failures. In 2012, the track was preparing to file for bankruptcy as a result of nearly €376 million in debts and the inability to secure financing. On August 1, 2012, the government of Rheinland-Pfalz guaranteed €235 million to allow the track to meet its debt obligations. As of 2013, the Nürburgring is currently up for sale for €127.3 million. The sale process will be by sealed-bid auction with an expected completion date of "Late Summer". This means there will be a new owner in 2013, and as they will be unencumbered by the debts of the previous operation the circuit is expected to return to profitability.

September 2013 BlueMoon Solutions is the computer and IT services company on the Costa Blanca. We aim to provide high quality computer services at realistic prices - we specialise in providing services to small businesses and home users

For all your home and business computer needs Welcome to this month’s computer article written by Richard from BlueMoon Solutions Email Security - How can I make sure my account is safe? It’s a common problem – one I see and hear about practically every day. You turn on your computer to check your emails and enter your username and password, (or maybe your computer has this automatically saved but this morning it’s asking you for your details). This morning, whatever you type in, the "computer says no!" You think you're having a senior moment (which you might be!), but no matter what you type you can’t get into your account. Then you get a phone call from a friend who tells you that they have received a "strange" email from you saying that you're stuck in Madrid / Barcelona / (insert whichever city you like) and need money to be sent. It slowly dawns on you that your account has been compromised and you can’t get into it. You start to remember all the things you need your account for - that boarding pass email you haven’t printed off yet, the house insurance renewal email that still needs to be replied to and you start to feel that your right arm has been sawn off. It’s amazing how much we rely on email nowadays but don’t use secure passwords and then wonder why our accounts get "hacked" for want of a better word. I bet each and every one of you reading this knows at least one person that this has happened to. So what can you do to protect yourself? Well thankfully you can do quite a lot, but you need to do it now – don’t wait until your account is

compromised, it will be too late then! All of the "big" free email systems have the facility to add extra security information that will help you get your account back if the worst happens. I will cover Hotmail (or Microsoft Outlook as its now called) and Gmail as they are the most commonly used systems in my experience.

Microsoft enforce a 30 day change limit on this information to protect you from someone getting into your account and attempting to change this additional security information, therefore if you have it set up properly and you access your account at least once every 30 days, you should never have any problems with your account being compromised - do it now while you are thinking about it. Gmail

Hotmail / Microsoft Outlook Microsoft have a number of additional security features that you can add to your account to help you recover it in the event of you loosing access to it. These can be found in the "security info" section of your account and to get here just log onto your account and click on your name in the top right hand portion of the screen, choose "Account Settings", and then "Security Info". From here you can add alter-

native email addresses and alternative mobile phone numbers so if you get locked out of your account you can ask Microsoft to send any account reset information to your alternative email address or mobile phone number so that you can get access again to your account.

Google have similar facilities for their Google account users. You can find your security information by logging onto Gmail, clicking on the little arrow next to your name in the top right of the screen and choosing "Account" from here you can click on "Security" to get into the relevant section. Here you can also add an alternative email address and mobile phone number in the "Recovery options" Section. Again this is only useful if you add this information now, when you can still access your account, so that in the event of a problem you can use it to recover your account.

It’s time to clean house this month, literally, Aquarius. You need to start getting rid of things that remind you of harder times. Releasing these items will help clear your mind.

Pisces 19 February - 20 March During this month, you will find that your calmness might be tested by an unforeseen situation at work. Take time to listen to both sides before making a judgment on what to do. You will find the solution that is needed.

You’ve got to be joking

One day, as a husband was reading the Sunday paper, his wife smacked him upside the head with a frying pan.

Q: How are men like lava lamps? A: They're fun to look at, but not that bright.

Some woman I know updated her Facebook status last night to, 'Can't beat getting into bed with clean bed sheets on xx'. Strange, I thought. Why would you get into bed wearing clean bed sheets?

I saw a Barbershop Quartet this morning. Don’t know why it needed 4 people to give me an haircut.

Why did the fish cross the road? Because someone just bought him from the fish shop and was taking him to their house.

"What was that for?" cried the husband. "I was doing your laundry when I found a piece of paper with the name of Marylou on it!" screamed the wife. "Who is she? Are you cheating on me?" "Honey don't worry. Remember when I went to the horse race three weeks ago with my friends? Marylou was the name of the horse I was betting on. Satisfied, the wife continued doing the laundry. A few hours later, the wife smacked the husband with a frying pan again. "What was that for?" said the annoyed husband. "Your horse called."
