A THEFT TOO MANY

42-year-old Alicante man, who is accused of a string robberies on holiday homes across the Costa Blanca and Mar Menor, has been arrested by the Guardia Civil in the Cartagena area. The serial stealer was wanted on an arrest warrant issued by a Torrevieja court and is said to have plundered from at least 30 properties on the Alicante Province coast, as well as the Mar Menor area taking in La Manga, Playa Paraiso, and Playa Honda. His method of operation worked to a pattern where he would strike in the night by forcing a lock to gain entry to an empty house. He then did his his best to make sure that lock was put back together again to avoid any suspicion from neighbours of a break-in having taken

place. The Guardia spotted the burglar in the Playa Pariaso

area and he was collared as left a building that he had just robbed, with a number

of stolen items found to be in his possession at the time of his arrest.

THE SOUND OF SILENCE

here’s been no news over why a tender has still not been advertised to finish the incompleted Emergency Centre for the Orihuela Costa based at La Zenia, despite a promise from Orihuela council’s emergency co-ordinating councillor Victor Valverde late last autumn that the tender for the project “should be advertised and awarded by next summer”. Valverde, along with Orihuela council technical officials, recently held a meeting with the Valencia region’s director general for

emergencies, José María Ángel, with Valverde saying:- “We’ve submitted all the necessary changes for the project which the director general and his team have accepted”. These were announced in May including a helicopter landing pad and better rest facilities for shift workers. Valverde or María Ángel had nothing to say in an Orihuela council news release as to what the new timetable for tendering the work is. It appears to be yet another delay in the project as only last June, María

Ángel visited the site at La Zenia and said that a tender would be advertised last September with a view to finishing the work this year.

Once the tender is awarded, work to finish off the centre should only take around six months, according to officials.
